While driving, you heard a knocking sound from the engine. After turning the car off and back on, the knocking stopped, but about a mile later black smoke came from the vents. You pulled over and exited the vehicle, which then caught fire and was completely engulfed by the time firefighters arrived. No warning lights appeared before this happened.

I purchased a crankshaft from CarID and had a friend replace it with the old one in my 2008 Nissan Altima. Immediately after the repair, I noticed my steering power was gone. I had them put in the old crankshaft and regained my steering. I told CarID that the part was either defective or the wrong part despite their website claiming otherwise. They told me it wasn't under warranty and refused to refund or exchange the crankshaft. Well, this isn't a warranty issue, this is a defective part issue. On their own website they list the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which my situation falls under. Their part (WVE 5S11487 - Crankshaft Position Sensor) led to the failure of my steering. I called WVE, who said they do not sell directly to CarID and the part was most likely bought from a third party, hence the lack of warranty. The last I heard from CarID on this issue, they told me they would assist within 24-72 hours. That was 7 days ago. I emailed them a follow-up email yesterday that has gone ignored as well. CarID has not only shown any interest in resolving this issue amicably but shown willful disregard for the danger that their defective parts pose to their customers.

MY NISSAN 2008 ALTIMA STARTED STALLING WHILE I PULLED INTO TRAFFIC. IT WAS HAPPENING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND WAS RANDOM. I TOOK MY CAR INTO NISSAN, AFTER REALIZING THERE WAS A CVT TRANSMISSION RECALL FOR THIS CAR. THEY EXAMINED THE CAR AND DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, BECAUSE THE CAR DID NOT REPORT ANY DIAGNOSTIC CODE. THEY TOLD ME TO COME BACK, WHEN THE CAR STALLED AND THEY COULD GET THE NECESSARY CODE, SINCE THE CAR WAS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM THE CODE WOULD BE IN THE SYSTEM. I HAD REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO NISSAN CORPORATE AND GOT CASE NUMBER. ON MAY 7, 2018, NISSAN FOUND THE CODE AND THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN DETERMINED TO PAY HALF THE COST OF REPLACING MY TRANSMISSION. ON MAY 18,2018, I PICKED UP MY CAR AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM DRIVING AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I CALLED BACK AND THE MANAGER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY HIGH FLUIDS AND TO DRIVE THE CAR OVER THE WEEKEND AND IT SHOULD BE FINE. WELL, I STALLED WHILE DRIVING INTO TRAFFIC TWO MORE TIMES OVER THE WEEKEND. I CALLED NISSAN CORPORATE TO SAY THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. THE BUICK DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A NISSAN DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE BUICK DEALER REPLACED THE BATTERY, WHICH DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE BUICK DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE STOP SWITCH MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS NISSAN ALTIMA'S ON THE ROAD WITH THE SAME PROBLEM (VERY LOUD EXHAUST). THERE MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW THAT CAUSES THE METAL TO WEAKEN AND BREAK.

THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACKED ALLOWING CARBON MONOXIDE TO ENTER THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF. NISSAN REFUSED TO REPAIR THIS UNDER WARRANTY AS THE VEHICLE HAD 100K MILES ON IT. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 4 CYLINDER ALTIMA'S THIS IS CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE PART WHICH SHOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO IT'S INHERENT SAFETY CONCERNS. THIS CAN CAUSE OCCUPANTS TO PASS OUT WHILE DRIVING WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF CAUSING DAMAGE AND INJURY TO THIRD PARTY INDIVIDUALS. NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO REPAIR ALL ISSUES SURROUNDING A CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE A MILEAGE LIMITATION IMPOSED. WENT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT MOSSY NISSAN, KEARNY MESA, CA. WAS INFORMED THE HEADGASKET(S) WERE LEAKING COOLANT. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ALTHOUGH MECHANIC INFORMED ME THE LEAK(S) WERE A COMMON AND PRE-EXISTING CONDITION. HE WENT ON TO EXPLAIN THAT NISSAN USED THE INCORRECT HEAD GASKETS FOR THIS MODEL OF 3.5 V6 (FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VQ35HR TO BE SPECIFIC). ONCE NISSAN REALIZED THEIR MISTAKE, ALL SUBSEQUENT ENGINES RECEIVED THE CORRECT HEAD GASKETS AND THE LEAKAGE PROBLEMS WENT AWAY. I AM REQUESTING THAT NISSAN FORMALLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE HEAD GASKET DEFECT AND EXTEND THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY TO COVER THE REPLACEMENT EXPENSE. I AM UNSURE WHETHER THE NHTSA CAN HELP ME IN THIS CASE, BUT PERHAPS IF MY COMPLAINT CAN BE IN THE DATABASE, WE CAN GET MORE AFFECTED CONSUMERS TO SUBMIT SIMILAR HEAD GASKET DEFECT COMPLAINTS IN THE HOPES THAT NISSAN WILL BE FORCED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.

I HAD TAKEN IT HOME, AND NEXT DAY HAD ISSUES AGAIN. TOOK IT IN TO GET SPARK PLUGS CHANGED, BUT THE END RESULT WAS FIRE ON THE HWY WAY MAY 12, 2014. IT WAS 6:30 AM AND IT WAS SNOWING. THE TRAFFIC AHEAD BEGIN SLOWING DOWN FOR SOME REASON. THE VISIBILITY WAS BECOMING QUITE POOR. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 3-LANE I-79 HEADING SOUTH-WEST. HENCE I WANTED TO PUT ON MY HAZARD SIGNAL TO ALERT THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME OF THE DANGER AHEAD. IN THE PROCESS I PUSHED ON THE ON/OFF START BUTTON. THE ENGINE DIED RIGHT AWAY WHILE I WAS TRAVELING AT 50 MPH. ALL CONTROL WAS IMMEDIATELY LOST IN THE PROCESS. UNABLE TO STEER MY CAR EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT I PUSHED ON THE HAZARD BUTTON TO ALERT THE VEHICLE BEHIND OD MY DISTRESS. LUCKILY FOR ME, THE FELLOW BEHIND SLOWED DOWN AND STAYED BEHIND ME UNTIL I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND PUT IT IN PARK TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND SLOWLY CONTINUE MY TRIP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR NORMALLY WHEN I NOTICED THE LIGHT " CHECK ENGINE SOON" TURNED ON. I STOPPED THE CAR AT TIRES PLUS AND ASKED TO CHECK THE OIL. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THERE WAS NO OIL CIRCULATION. I WAS ADVISED TO NOT DRIVE THE CAR AND TOW IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER. TIRES PLUS ALSO PROVIDED ME WITH A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY NISSAN (CLASSIFICATION EC07-014, REFERENCE # NTB08-17, ISSUED ON JANUARY 22ND, 2008) REPORTING PROBLEMS WITH THE IVT SOLENOID VALVE FOR SOME VEHICLESMANUFACTURED IN 2008. MY VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THAT RANGE OF VINS INFORMED IN THE TECHNICAL BULLETIN. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND CONTACTED CONSUMER AFFAIRS. NISSAN IS REJECTING THE CLAIM BECAUSE THE CAR IS OUT OF THE WARRANTY. ALSO, NISSAN IS SAYING THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ABSENCE OF OIL AND THEY FOUND SLUDGE. THEY ARE ASKING ME ASSUME THE COSTS IF THEY OPEN THE ENGINE TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM.I AM AFRAID THAT THE ENGINE IS DAMAGED. *TR

THIS IS A VEHICLE THAT IS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND IT USES EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL, 2 TO 3+ QUARTS EVERY 1000 TO 2000 MILES. IT IS THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE, NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5L ENGINE, THAT WAS RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN 2006. I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUE, ON WEB BOARDS AND COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA, ONLY TO HAVE THE DEALER TELL THEM THAT THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXCEEDED AND THE MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT THE CUSTOMERS' EXPENSE. RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I QUESTION THIS EVERYTIME I TAKE MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE BACK TO 2008 AND EVERYTIME I GET THE SAME ANSWER "IT'S NORMAL, IT'S JUST THE HEAT SHIELD PLATE HEATING UP AND COOLING DOWN. IT DOESN'T AFFECT THE SAFETY & FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT". IT'S AMAZING I PAID $30K FOR A CAR THAT RATTLES ON REGULAR BASIS AND THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. YOU WOULD THINK AFTER THE MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS NISSAN COULD ATLEAST COME UP WITH A FIX! THEY SAY IT DOES NOT AFFECT THE FUNCTION/SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE BUT I BEG TO DIFFER, I GET HESITATIONS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. FIRESTONE AND NISSAN CLAIM TO BE ASTONISHED HOW THIS HAPPENED. DAMAGES ARE NOW ESTIMATED TO BE IN THE RANGE OF $3,900 WITH 20 HOURS OF LABOR TO REMOVE THE ENGINE AND REPLACE THE COVER. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT NOTICED A LOUD TICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS, SINCE IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.

I BOUGHT MY CAR IN JULY 2008 FROM POWER NISSAN OF TEMPE, AZ ABOUT A MONTH OR SO LATER I NOTICED WHEN DRIVING MY CAR FOR MORE THAN 5 MILES AROUND TOWN. I WOULD SMELL AN OVERHEATING ODOR AND MY CAR WOULD START DRIVING VERY SLUGGISH. CAR WAS SLOW TO ACCELERATE. MY TEMPERATURE GAGE ON THE DASH HAS NEVER INDICATED THAT THE CAR WAS OVERHEATING. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. I LEFT MY CAR OVERNIGHT WITH THEM AND PICKED IT UP THE NEXT DAY WITH THEM TELLING ME THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND A LEAK ANYWHERE. SO I TOOK THE CAR HOME. NO SOONER THAN THAT I STARTED TO SMELL THE AGAIN. SO I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD TO FIND THAT THE ANTIFREEZE WAS LEAKING OUT OF THE OVERFLOW CAP. THERE ARE REMAINDERS OF ANTIFREEZE STILL ON THE OVEFLOW CONTAINER. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT ALL THE NISSANS ARE DOING THAT AND IT WAS NORMAL. AS LONG AS THE TEMPERATURE GAGE WASN'T READING HOT. I DON'T THINK THIS IS NORMAL AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS DEFECT ASAP! IM GETTING NOWHERE WITH NISSAN. *TR

AFTER GETTING TOWED TO THE DEALER I FOUND OUT THAT THE PULLEY BROKE OFF WHICH CAUSE THE BELT TO COME OFF. I HAD THE TENSIONER PULLEY AND THE BELT REPLACED, BUT NOW IT SEEMS IT MAY HAVE CAUSE ANOTHER PROBLEM WHEN SHIFTING IN REVERSE NOW IT MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE (IT IS GOING INTO THE SHOP FOR THIS PROBLEM THIS WEEKEND). *TR
