While driving in the rain at 30 mph and gently applying the brakes to slow down for a curve, your brakes locked up unexpectedly, causing you to lose control and collide with an oncoming vehicle. This has happened more than once on slippery surfaces, even though your ABS system checked out fine a month earlier. The brakes are locking up when they shouldn't, which suggests a problem with either the ABS system or the brake system itself that prevents normal operation in wet conditions. Repairs may involve diagnosing the ABS control module, brake sensors, or the hydraulic brake system.

While driving at highway speeds, your brakes failed to slow the car down and instead produced a burning smell as the brake pads appeared to overheat. Your accelerator also seemed stuck and wouldn't respond normally, and the cruise control appeared to be engaged and not responding to brake pedal input. After about 10 miles, the car finally slowed on its own, but the problem happened again later that day at lower speeds—you had to shift into neutral and pull hard on the emergency brake to stop. At the shop, the brake pads were found to be severely worn (one completely disintegrated, one paper-thin) and both rotors were heavily stained with dark deposits. The fix involved replacing both the brake pads and rotors.

VEHICLE VIBRATES WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED DUE TO ROTORS BEING DEFECTIVE. HAD THEM RE URFACED 3 TIMES, PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. *AK.
THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS CEASE UP AND PULLS SEVERELY HARD TO THE LEFT INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC. THE CALIPERS LOCK UP WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKES AND EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT TURNED ON. THE CONSUMER CAN SMELL THE BRAKES DUE TO BEING SO HOT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. NLM
BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS MADE LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE. DEALER "CLEANED" FOR A FEE AND NOISE BECAME WORSE. NOW AFTER COMPLAINING MULTIPLE TIMES, THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE REAR DRUMS. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 23,000 MILES ON IT. *AK

A CAR RAN A RED LIGHT AND TURNED IN FRONT OF ME I TRIED TO STOP BUT THE CAR BRAKES LOCKED AND THE CAR STARTED SKIDDING. I COULDN'T CONTROL THE CAR AND IT SKID INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR THAT PULLED IN FRONT OF ME. THE COLLISION WAS HARD ENOUGH TO FOLD MY HOOD IN HALF BUT THE AIRBAG NEVER DEPLOYED. I WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM WITH CHEST PAIN AND A NUMB LEFT ARM AND HAND. THE AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY.*AK

CONSUMER WAS PULLING OUT A PARKING LOT WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE STRUCK HIS VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT CORNER. THEN WHEN CONSUMER TRIED TO DRIVE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE OTHER VEHICLE, HE STEPPED ON THE BRAKES TO STOP, BUT VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. VEHICLE WENT OVER THE SIDEWALK. *AK
