Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2008-2009 Sportage vehicles previously recalled under recall 16V-815. An engine compartment fire originating from around the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) may occur while parked or driving.
Fix: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures and other vehicles until the recall repair has been performed. Dealers will inspect and replace the HECU, its wiring harness, and its fuses, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 22, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC253.

Your brake system warning lights (brake light, ESC light, and ABS light) are all on, and your car has a diagnostic code (C2380) that requires replacement of the brake control unit (HECU) under a safety recall. The circuit board in this unit is failing due to moisture exposure from weather conditions. Your dealer initially inspected it in 2017 but made modifications to the brake lines that may complicate the recall repair, and is now refusing to perform the replacement, claiming warranty expiration and prior inspection history exempt it from the recall. Fixing this issue will require replacing the hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) with a new one that has proper sealing against moisture.

Your 2009 Kia Sportage is subject to a safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 22V800000) for the brake system, but the required parts haven't been available from your dealer for an extended period. You've also noticed an abnormal sound and discovered that the wiring harness has melted, which suggests an electrical issue related to the brake system. The manufacturer acknowledges the delay but has directed you to contact the dealer for assistance. Repairing this will likely require replacement of the brake hydraulic components and the damaged wiring harness once parts become available.

Your 2009 Kia Sportage is subject to a recall (Campaign 22V800000) for a potential hydraulic brake system issue, but the manufacturer hasn't been able to supply the necessary repair parts within a reasonable timeframe. While you haven't experienced any brake failure yet, this is a safety-related recall that needs to be completed. The repair will likely involve replacing or servicing hydraulic brake components once parts become available.

After your dealer completed recall repairs on your 2009 Kia Sportage, multiple warning lights appeared on your dashboard when you started the vehicle, including lights for the ABS system, tire pressure monitoring, and the HECU (brake control module). The dealer said they could fix it but would charge you a fee, and the manufacturer didn't offer assistance. The issue occurred at about 93,157 miles. Resolving this will likely require diagnostic scanning and repair of the electrical connections or modules related to the brake and tire pressure systems.

I WAS GETTING MY OIL CHANGED AT VALVOLINE OIL CHANGE IN LIVERPOOL, NY. DURING THE ROUTINE LIGHT CHECK, THE TECH SAID THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WEREN'T COMING ON WHEN I BRAKE, ONLY THE TOP BRAKE LIGHT STRIP IN REAR MIDDLE. I HAD SEEN THE "ESC OFF" LIGHT COME ON WITHOUT ANY REASON IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS. I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN GETTING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, MY CRUISE CONTROL WOULD TURN ON, BUT NOT SET/ENGAGE. I RESEARCHED ONLINE FOR THESE SYMPTOMS, AND FOUND THERE WAS A RECALL OF KIA SPORTAGES BOTH IN 2009 AND IN 2013 FOR A STOP LAMP SWITCH CAUSING THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN WAS #13V114000. IN CALLING THE BURDICK KIA TO GET THIS REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE RECALL, THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED ON AUGUST 2013, IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RECALL. BECAUSE OF THIS, I CAN'T GET THE SWITCH REPLACED FOR FREE. I AM JUST LETTING YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS STILL AN ISSUE WITH THIS CONDITION, EVEN WITH THE 2013 RECALL AND REPLACEMENT. *TR
MY ANTI LOCK BRAKES MODULE OR CALLED ABS. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID, THE ABS SHOULD NOT HAVE WENT OUT THIS SOON. HE ALSO SAID THE ABS IS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. A ABS MODULE SHOULD NOT LEAK BRAKE, EVEN IF IT IS NOT WORKING. IF I HAVE NOT WENT TO MY MECHANIC, I COULD HAVE LOST MY BRAKES. I GOT IT AT KIA OF BRADLEY 1010 TIGHE DR, BRADLEY, IL 60914 (815) 932-1000. THEY WANT TO CHARGE AROUND $2500.00 TO REPLACE WHEN IT IS A DEFECTIVE PART AND SAFETY HAZARD. MY WINDOWS ICE UP ON THE INSIDE IN THE WINTER. I TOOK IT TO THEM, THEY TOLD DRILL HOLES IN MY DOOR SEALS. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS DEALERSHIP. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
