UNKNOWN It can cause a safety hazard to me as well as other drivers if the oil is gone and I'm not aware of it while driving the car. The car repair shop that provides maintenance to my car stated that my car is burning oil too fast (in 1000 miles or less) and it shouldn't do that.

Due to the engine block and heads being aluminum, the head bolt threads are stripping and pulling out of the block and creating a loose seal around the head gaskets. This does not allow the engine to cool properly resulting in overheating and damage to the engine and the radiator.

My 2017 Kia Sorento check engine turn on so I took it to the dealer. The dealer told me that it was the sensors and that the warranty would cover it. A few days later they told me they needed to change the engine.

The 2.4 liter engine is using in excess of 4 quarts oil in less than 4000 miles. Kia corporation suggest to keep putting oil in engine until an internal failure. Then the engine will need replacing.

Loosing oil which will result in engine failure. Had an oil test done at the Kia Dealership and they said it lost 2.5 quarts of oil in 2925 miles and that is "operating as designed". Their Owner's manual says change the oil every 7500 miles.

Recently the oil pressure sensor indicator light has been coming dure to excessive oil consumption. Oil light also comes on when idling, even though engine oil level is full. Slight increase of RPM causes light to go out, but may come back on occasionally when idling again.

I have been trying to get the kia dealership in gainesville, ga to postpone the oil consumption testing due to the coronavirus concerns my husband and I have. The manager of the dealership said that the oil consumption testing has a protocol, the testing cannot be cancelled. I keep telling everyone, the dealership, kia motors, that I did not say to cancel the testing, just to postpone it.

Feb 07 2020 - mileage: 59,211 - this is my last 'excessive oil consumption' test with dealership. My 2017 kia sorento was down 1.7 quarts of oil (more like 2 qts as the engine was hot and the tech agreed, more like 2 qts.) after 1002 miles, that averages out to about 1 qt oil every 500 miles. The tech said he would submit all testing results to kia motors.

Was driving from work to home. (approximately a 10 mile trip.) there was no indication of engine trouble or any warning lights on at all. About half way my car began to rumble and not shift.

When driving vehicle for more than 30 minutes, engine begins to overheat. Vehicle is fine while driving but when waiting at stop sign or red light engine begins to overheat rapidly. Also, when driving uphill same engine heating problem occurs.

Received a notice for an update took the vehicle in for service because we were going to california for x-mas and wanted to make sure that my car was in good working order. While driving the vehicle it went into limp mode and the engine was making a knocking noise the vehicle stopped all together on the interstate 10 going west bound.

Showing 137 miles to next service and I smelt oil burning so I had my husband check the oil and it had 0 yes 0 oil on the dipstick I had called the dealership earlier this week tuesday the 26th to be exact and an appointment set for tuesday april 2 as it was the earliest appointment time to get the oil changed however; after my husband checked and it showed zero oil in vehicle I took it to valvoline express care who noted oil level off dip stick on arrival and paid $66.48 to have the oil changed I had zero indications that there was no oil in this vehicle I think the only thing that kept it from locking the engine was I changed and flushed the oil and use synthetic oil to which the dealership frowned upon as it is newer car but I prefer to use synthetic oil in all my vehicles for this purpose!!

While driving my kia sorento around the engine rpms would rev up then drop off the transmission would not do anything. This happens while driving at 35 MPH and while stopped at a traffic light. I took it to the dealer and they said they could not find the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 kia sorento. The contact stated that the engine assembly failed. The vehicle was to be serviced by vandevere kia (328 w market st, akron, oh 44303, 330-253-6137) for a product improvement campaign to update the ecu with a knock sensor detection alert.

oil light in past week would come on for short time then go out, I brought to kia cape coral, fl. see video attached from kia. oil went up no oil on ground.

This uses oil. It takes 16 ounces or more every 400 miles.

Car is burning more oil than it should. We fill up oil multiple times between oil changes. When checking oil it has a burnt smell to it.

On 8/16/2025 my 2017 Kia Sorento experienced major engine failure which resulted in loss of power and severe engine misfiring. I submitted a warranty claim with full maintenance documentation to Kia cooperation but was denied coverage on 8/27/2025.

Engine seized Kia denied warranty extension b/c of maintenance records changed oil myself had 3 years of receipts for oil and filters

Bought the car last month had it put on a diagnostic machine 2 times took a trip lasted one week now it's in the shop days bad motor engine light came on @ parked it right then they told me that it ended a engine it run perfect then it wasn't it is a 2017 Kia Sorento it's only 8 yrs old is there any manufacturer warranty or coverage of any kind for that yr it ran really good for a minute then it wasn't it's still in shop being looked @ I have exstended warranty.

Unknown Engine stopped in the middle of driving. The engine has a bad bearing. Caused the starter wire to be burned so can’t start vehicle what so ever.

Oil consumption

Engine blew at 175000. It is not one of the vehicles that is covered under the class action lawsuit but the vehicle itself just blew an engine after an oil change. One of the Pistons let go.

Engine Oil Burning 2-4 quarts of oil in less 1000 miles.

I was driving down the road and my car shut off. It would not restart at all. I just had my state inspection and a new oil change on November 11.

Car turned off when making a full and complete stop. Would burn oil faster than usual. Car does not stay on.

Cylinder #1 exhaust valve burnt

Bought car from Bill bird kia in panama city Florida with 38k miles and at 41k miles we went for oil change the oil was extremely low and from that day we have kept record of every oil change 1k miles into every oil change the oil is gone and was told kia won't reach engine until the engine blows up so with 115k miles on it kia diagnosed our engine with cylinder #1 low compression due to lack of oil and it was not time for a oil change..

Engine seized

Driving down interstate with cruise control at 75 MPH. Car suddenly started decelerating, causing a hazard attempting to get to the shoulder.

I purchased a 2017 kia sorento in 2017. Moved to mississippi in 2018. Never received a recall notice on the engine of my car.

Engine uses 1 extra galón of oil in between oil changes.

No codes/lights or warnings. Engine started making loud clinking sound randomly, then smoke and car was disabled with oil and metal pieces everywhere in the roadway. Only then was there an engine light on the dash.

I purchased a my 2017 Sorento, it had 40,000 miles, it had a knock to it when I would first get started in the morning, took it to get check twice, told nothing was wrong, at 59,700 I took back and it needed a new transmission, then at 98,000 it needs another transmission, so after two transmission, plus changed 6 fuel injectors, all new spark plugs, now the engine is gone.

My car has less than 62,000 miles on it and is burning through all oil every 2000 miles. My engine is completely out of oil. I only know this because I checked it...no lights or any warning signs that it is out.

Excessive oil consumption. Chronic problem. I don’t know how this isn’t a recall yet.

My car burns oil, like at least a quart or 2 per week, so much so that I had my oil changed and the engine blew not even 2 months later.

This engine in the vehicle has had excessive oil consumption between oil changes. It uses 3 quarts of oil between oil changes at every 3000 miles. Why even do an oil change if I’m putting 3 quarts in it every 3000 miles I could just swap filters and be done with it.

The oil burns very fast. I check the oil weekly and it's always low. There were no warning lamps or lights or anything to indicate that the oil was low.

My car is burning excessive oil. Recently had an oil change on May 9,2022. Oil light came on May 27,2022.

Excessive Oil Consumption, internally burning oil. No Smell, just oil gone very quickly even after an oil change. Others have complained about the same issue with the 2017 sorento, Kia is doing nothing about it.

Engine failed at 94,000 miles while driving. Main bearings in engine ceased up due to lack of oil flow thru the ports. This was a known problem with kia engines but I never a recall notice.

My car died going 50mph and was later determined that the engine seized. I bought the car a year prior inspected and had the oil changed. I only owned the car for a year.

My care burns oil yo almost empty before the 3000 mile oil change

Over the last several months, my engine had been burning oil excessively. I had to add 5 quarts of oil every 1-2 weeks. 3 weeks ago, while driving on the highway, my car began to slow, the lights on my dash were blinking and the car was not accelerating.

After oil change , within 1500miles missing 2 quartz of oil. Not normal.

Engine just lost almost all power,car has only 5000 miles, had same problem when we first bought new car after 24 hrs took it back and they gave us this one ,someone is going to get seriously hurt if not killed with engine losing power,car is in kia shop now ,very dissapointed in this car, have been a kia owner15 yrs with 5 new cars

There has been two occasions in which the car turn off. Lucky it has been while the car was park. One of the occasion we had just pull over when suddenly the car turn off.
