Kia America, Inc. (Kia) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Seltos and Soul vehicles. The piston oil rings may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can result in engine damage.

Risk: Engine damage can cause a vehicle stall or fire, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Fix: Dealers will inspect and replace the engine as necessary, free of charge. Dealers will also install piston-ring noise sensing system (PNSS) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 4, 2025. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC336.

Your 2022 Kia Seltos lost power while accelerating and stalled in January 2025 at 44,000 miles, despite regular maintenance and no warning lights. The dealer determined the engine was out of oil, which caused engine damage that your warranty won't cover. Your engine appears to have burned through oil rapidly without any dashboard alerts or check engine light to warn you.

Your 2022 Kia Seltos engine shut down completely three times while driving at highway speeds, creating a dangerous situation. The dealer found metal filings in your oil and says you need a complete engine replacement, but is refusing to cover it under warranty or recall because you don't have oil change receipts since January 2025, even though the problem matches a known recall. The repair will likely require a full engine replacement or rebuild to remove the metal debris and restore proper function.

Your 2022 Kia Seltos may experience three serious engine and transmission issues: the engine unexpectedly shuts off at low speeds while displaying a "Push Engine to Start" warning, creating a collision risk; cruise control may cause unintended acceleration to dangerous speeds (80-100 mph) without driver input; and the transmission stutters at low speeds, causing the car to lurch forward. The dealership has been notified but hasn't yet reproduced or repaired these issues. Diagnosis may involve engine control module diagnostics, cruise control system testing, and transmission software updates or repairs.

Your engine shut down suddenly while driving on a busy street with no warning signs, creating a dangerous traffic situation. Your battery also died around the same time, which was the only indication something was wrong. The repair will likely involve diagnosing the battery and electrical charging system to determine why both failed.

Your car is displaying a P1327 error code, which is associated with recall 25V099 for this model year. However, your specific VIN hasn't been included in the recall list, even though you own a 2022 Kia Seltos with the same issue. You should contact Kia directly to confirm whether your vehicle qualifies for the recall repair or determine what diagnostic and repair steps are needed.

Your transmission is overheating during normal driving, forcing you to pull over and wait 45 minutes for it to cool down, even though your car has only 25,000 miles. The dealership found no fault, but you've found similar reports from other owners on Kia forums mentioning the dual-clutch system and start-stop feature. This may require a transmission fluid flush, software update to the transmission control module, or replacement of the dual-clutch assembly.

Your car is burning more than half a quart of oil every 1,000 miles and making a ticking sound, which are signs of faulty piston rings covered by a Kia recall. During the recall inspection, the dealer initially determined your engine needed replacement, but then changed their assessment and decided against it. The underlying oil-burning problem and ticking noise persist, meaning the recall repair wasn't completed. Resolving this will likely require engine work, which may include replacing the piston rings or the entire engine assembly.

Your 2022 Seltos was part of a Kia engine recall, and you were initially told it needed a new engine after failing a test. Kia then issued an updated recall procedure and had you bring the car back for different testing; however, you still experience power loss when accelerating and driving uphill, despite being told the second test passed. Kia has pressured you to accept that the issue is resolved, but you believe the problem persists. Resolving this may require engine replacement, further diagnostic testing, or pursuing the recall through Kia corporate escalation.

Your car is burning through oil extremely quickly — you're losing a quart every 20 miles even after an oil change and transmission repair following your front-end collision. Your check engine and oil warning lights stay on, the car stalls at red lights, and it smells like burning oil or rubber, but the dealership hasn't found the cause and wants you to drive 1,000 miles for a diagnostic test. The issue may involve a defective engine component, possibly related to pistons, though your 2022 model year isn't currently under recall even though 2021 and 2023 models are.

Your car's check engine light came on and started making noise and running poorly. An independent mechanic found that your timing chain and piston rings are failing, which matches a known recall issue. However, your dealership says your car passed the piston ring recall and wants to charge you $175 just to diagnose the problem and another $175 to inspect the engine further, despite the independent shop already identifying the issue. The repair is expected to cost over $2,000 and involves replacing or repairing the timing chain, piston rings, and related engine components.

Your 2022 Kia Seltos is burning through about a quart of oil every week, even though it passed a piston oil ring recall in September 2025. Two dealerships told you this wouldn't be covered under the recall because they said the recall was only for engine noise, but the recall documentation actually states that the underlying issue can cause increased oil consumption that leads to noise. Your vehicle was 5,000 miles beyond the warranty period when this problem developed. The repair will likely involve inspecting or replacing the piston oil rings and related engine components.

Your car is shutting off unexpectedly while stopped at red lights, and recently it's gotten worse—happening 3 times in 3 weeks. When it shuts off, the engine takes several restart attempts to turn back on, and sometimes the dashboard lights up briefly but the engine won't catch. No warning lights appear on your dashboard before these events. The issue may involve the engine's starting system, fuel delivery, or ignition electronics, and your mechanic will need to diagnose which component is failing.

Your engine failed while driving and wouldn't accelerate, with the check engine light coming on. When you checked the oil, it was very low without any visible leaks, suggesting the engine was burning through oil abnormally fast. The car was towed for inspection to diagnose the cause of the excessive oil consumption.

Your 2022 Kia Seltos is stalling and shutting off while driving, including in traffic and at stop signs, which has left you stranded. You've also experienced electrical failures and an emergency brake malfunction. The dealership has had your vehicle for three weeks without providing a diagnosis, repair timeline, or loaner vehicle, leaving you without transportation. Resolving this will likely require the dealership to diagnose the stalling issue through electrical and engine system testing, which may involve replacing failed components once identified.

Your car is stalling and shutting off while stopped at traffic lights, and this has happened more than 10 times since you purchased it. Your 2022 Kia Seltos has a coolant leak that the dealership has been unable to locate despite multiple visits and marking the reservoir to track the loss. The coolant level dropped consistently week to week, but mysteriously stabilized for over a year after a technician accidentally broke and replaced an unrelated part. Recently, about three months after your last check, you noticed the coolant level has dropped again below the minimum mark, suggesting the original problem has returned. Diagnosing and repairing the coolant leak will likely involve pressure testing the cooling system, inspecting hoses and connections, and potentially replacing damaged seals or gaskets.

Your 2022 Kia Seltos has a recall (Campaign 25V099000) that's currently on hold at the dealer, and you've been waiting longer than expected for the repair. You've noticed that when driving uphill at around 45 mph, your car hesitates and doesn't respond properly when you press the gas pedal, and you're hearing unusual knocking sounds when the car is idling. The dealer hasn't yet diagnosed the problem, and no warning lights have appeared. Fixing this will likely involve the dealer completing the engine and cooling system recall work once it's no longer on hold.

When driving your 2022 Kia Seltos at 75-80 mph on the highway, you hear a metallic ticking noise coming from the front wheels on both sides of the car. You have audio and video recordings of the noise, but the dealer has refused to investigate or reproduce the issue, claiming they cannot drive at those speeds due to speed limits. The exact cause hasn't been identified since the dealer won't inspect it further. A thorough inspection of the front suspension and wheel components may be needed to locate the source of the noise.
