kia already has a recall on the 2.0 litre Theta engines due to rod bearing failures due to improper machining of the engine blocks, resulting in metal filings blocking oil passages in the bottom end of the engine resulting in the significant risk of a fire or catastrophic engine failure usually at highway speed which can cause accidents. They also have a recall for possible engine fires and instruct owners to park their vehicles outside, with a significant risk of burning occupants. 179000 miles owner was driving and heard a knocking sound. He is an independent mechanic and put it in the shop to diagnose. While inspecting oil was within normal operating range and not yet due for an oil change. Low end rod knock. Changed oil to inspect for debris and found light flakes of bearing material. Diagnosed as rod knock and needs bearing replaced.

Premature engine failure in 2010 kia forte ex in April 2020 resulted in a vehicle that was unsafe to drive. The problem was confirmed by a mechanic and later the dealership. No warning messages or lamps were displayed. The problem was identified after I spoke with my mechanic about a ticking noise that I was hearing upon starting my vehicle. The noises first appeared a few weeks before my cars engine was diagnosed as failing.
In March 2023, my 2010 kia forte ex began to make a ticking noise, similar to the noise it had made before its first engine had failed. I had just had my car inspected the week prior and had my oil changed. I took my car back to the mechanic, where they confirmed there was an issue with my "new" engine. The engine was "knocking." I took my kia to the dealership where I had gotten the first engine replaced to see if my warranty still covered the new engine as it was not even 3 years old, but was told it was not under warranty. I took my car to another mechanic to get a second opinion after being quoted over $3000 for a new engine. The mechanic said that there were metal shavings in my oil, which was only a week or two old at that time. He said the issue was likely the rod baring's. I learned kia had several lawsuits going on about premature engine failure in kia fortes, but was told by kia that my car was not going to be part of that lawsuit. No warning messages showed up prior to the failure. The only symptom of the failure that was noticeable to me was the knocking, and would not be as noticable to someone who doesnt know much about cars. Driving my car for the last time, I noticed a burning smell when I turned on the ac. I shut it off and looked for signs of a fire, knowing kias have been catching fire recently. These cars arent safe on the roads and Kia should be held accountable before more people get hurt.
Engine piston knock getting ready to fail and lock up which could cause a crash and loss of control of car.
My Engine died at 114,000 miles. It developed engine knock. I now have to replace the engine. Kia refuses to help with this and is asking for 8,000 to replace the engine.
Unknown, 2010 Kia Forte engines have an active and open recall in Canada for a ticking noise that leads to vehicle fires and cause death it is not being addressed here in the United States even though the problems are exactly the same there's a smell of gas burning there are ticking and knocking noises coming from an engine and Kia is refusing to replace it here in the United States but they are actively replacing it in Canada
Very loud knocking noise coming from engine. No check engine light or oil light has come on at all. It's been doing this for over a year now.. Ive taken it to several place and no one can figure it out. The knocking gets so bad it makes my steering wheel shake.
I have 2 Kia Forte I was a 4dr my current is a 2 dr Koup . The engine makes noises the motor actually blew on my way to work with the 4dr then purchased a 2dr it’s doing the same the guy says it’s a cylinder but why do I feel like I’m getting ripped off by Kia bc this is an ongoing issue
Engine is knocking very loudly. Concerned it is going to fail while driving it and cause an accident. I have noticed many other people have this issue with this 2.0 engine Kia has.
Randomly the car refused to accelerate, rpms would not go past 3k. It happened it different time points of a drive. There was never any check engine light. Mechanic drove the vehicle and ran a check on it and said with out a warning light there isn’t much I can do. Suggested replace crank shaft sensor. There was no change to the point the entire car died while driving up hill with no shoulder and a very large truck behind. My children would be dead right now if there had been another vehicle in the lane next to me I was able to barely to get the cat into. The car started back up after 30 mins. Was looked at again, informed it could have something to do with the engine tick, still no warning lights. The car stalls, jerks like a misfire and had refused to keep a stable speed while on the interstate

THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 88,000 MILES ON IT. THE CAR STARTED MAKING TICKING NOISE. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID IT IS THE ENGINE AND IT NEEDS REPLACED. JUST AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR USED WITH 73,349 MILES ON THE ODOMETER ON 7/31/2014 THERE WAS A SLIGHT KNOCK IN THE ENGINE, WHICH SOUNDS LIKE THE PROBLEM THAT LED TO RECALLS ON LATER YEARS MODELS WITH 4 CYLINDER ENGINES, SO I THINK THE PROBLEM STARTED EARLIER. SINCE THERE WAS NO WARRANTY (SOLD AS IS) ON A USED CAR THE DEALER TOLD US REPAIRS WOULD COST MORE THAN JUST REPLACING THE ENGINE, SO I HAD TO PAY $3,000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I COMPLAINED TO BOTH THE DEALER (FAIRFAX KIA) AND THE MANUFACTURER WITH NO RESOLUTION.
MY CAR WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW FROM KIA OF CLARKSVILLE. IT HAS ALWAYS HAD A TICK I WAS TOLD IT WAS NORMAL. AT 88,000 MILES MY CAR LOCKED UP. JUST DRIVING UP A SMALL HILL IT STARTED KNOCKING LOUD AND LOST POWER. TOOK IT TO KIA THEY WANT 6000.00 TO REPAIR IT WITH A JUNK YARD MOTOR. HOW DO THEY SELL FAULTY ENGINES AND GET AWAY WITH IT. I TOOK GOOD CARE OF MY CAR AND OIL CHANGES WHEN DUE. I'M SO UPSET THAT AS A CONSUMER WE HAVE NO PROTECTION AGAINST THIS.

TOOK CARE OF THE CAR AND MY MOTOR HAS RECENTLY GONE OUT. LOST POWER GOING UP HILL AND HAD A BAD TICKING NOISE I PULLED OFF AN EXIT AND IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING BROKE IN THE MOTOR. VERY DISAPPOINTED.
THIS ENGINE HAS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM OF TICKING COMING FROM THE TOP PART OF THE ENGINE, AND ISSUES WITH OIL INCLUDING BURNING OIL. I PERSONALLY HAVE EXPERIENCED BOTH DESPITE MANY EFFORTS TO TRY TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. MANY OTHER DRIVERS OF THE SAME CAR HAVE HAD THESE SAME ISSUES WHICH HAVE LED TO SCORING IN THE CYLINDERS AND COMPLETE ENGINE FAILURE. I MYSELF AM ALSO VERY CLOSE TO ENGINE FAILURE. MANY PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF BELIEVE THAT THERE IS AN UNDERLYING ISSUE(S) CAUSING THESE PROBLEMS IN THE THETA II ENGINES. MANY PEOPLE IN CANADA HAVE HAD THEIR ENGINE REPLACED FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS.
I HAD A MILD ENGINE KNOCKING NOISE FOR A SEVERAL WEEKS, BUT JUST HAD AN OIL CHANGE A FEW DAYS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE STRUGGLING TO SHIFT GEARS AND GO. I PULLED OVER AND HEARD TERRIBLE ROD KNOCKING AND ENGINE CLANKING NOISES. I TURNED THE CAR OFF TO CALL MY FATHER AND ASK IF HE THOUGHT I COULD MAKE IT HOME, AND I AGREED TO ATTEMPT IT. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON THE ROD KNOCKING WAS WORSE THAN BEFORE, IT MADE A VERY LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN I ACCELERATED, AND THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHIN MINUTES, IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION.
MOTOR HAS BEEN MAKING PECKING SOUND FOR PERIOD OF TIME. AS GOING DOWN THE ROAD TODAY IT DIED IN THE ROAD. FINALLY GOT IT TO CRANK ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE ROAD BUT IT'S MAKING A LOUDER KNOCKING SOUND.

ENGINE BURNED IN FRONT YARD HUSBAND DROVE CAR TO POST OFFICE RETURNED WITH CAR AND ENGINE WAS ON FIRE, FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO PUT FIRE OUT. HUSBAND MADE IT HOME AND PARKED THE VEHICLE AT FRONT DOOR HUSBAND THOUGHT CAR WAS STEAMING BUT CAR WAS ON FIRE

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
AFTER AN OIL CHANGE MY ENGINE BEGAN TO KNOCK. OIL CHANGE WAS NOT OVERDUE BY MORE THAN A HUNDRED MILES. OIL LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO BE CHANGED THE NEXT DAY. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME, OIL LIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER AND BY THE TIME I GOT HOME (10 MILES) IT WAS STEADY. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE OIL PLACE. THEY INFORMED ME MY OIL WAS OVERLY SLUDGY AND WERE WORRIED IT MIGHT BE AN ENGINE ISSUE. THEY ALSO FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE PAN. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE HAPPENING WITH THE 2011 RECALLS. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME MY CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AND I NEED AN ENGINE REPLACEMENT. KIA TOLD ME IT WOULD BE ALMOST 6000 OUT OF POCKET. THIS ENGINE NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY OTHER ISSUE WITH THIS CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.

MY ENGINE HAD 85,000 MILES ON IT AND I REGULARLY DID OIL CHANGES AND THE ENGINE BLEW RANDOMLY AND COSTS OVER $5,000 TO REPLACE. THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING FINE WHEN I PARKED IT ON MY LUNCH AND WHEN I CAME OUT TO LEAVE WORK IT WOULD NO LONGER START.
KNOCKING IN ENGINE NOTICED WHITE STARTING AND DRIVING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED LEAVING OIL CHANGE AT 86K MILES (12/27/2018). MOMENTS LATER, VEHICLE WOULDN'T GO ABOVE 60MPH ENTERING HIGHWAY. ALL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH, PULLED OVER ON RAMP AND TURN VEHICLE OFF. VEHICLE WOULDN'T START AND WAS TOWED TO MECHANIC. MECHANIC GOT VEHICLE TO START AND HEARD KNOCKING. IDENTIFIED COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. MECHANIC ADVISED VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO DEALER DUE TO RECENT ENGINE RECALLS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IS PENDING DIAGNOSTIC. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE "10 YEAR/100,000 MILE" WARRANTY DOES NOT APPLY TO ME. HOPEFULLY THEY ARE HONEST AND HONOR THE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT.

BESIDES SOME MINOR SCRATCHES IT LOOKS AND RUNS BRAND NEW BESIDES THE [XXX] KNOCKING SOUND. THE ENGINE IS FAILING. JUST OVER 100,000 MILES AND HAS BEARING FAILURE WITH ROD KNOCK. I HAVE READ STORY AFTER STORY ABOUT THESE ENGINES FAILING. A 2010 NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED THE SAME AS 2011. SAME ENGINE ,SAME PROCEDURES. THE CAR IS USELESS NOW. CAN'T SELL,TRADE,OR DRIVE.
2010 KIA FORTE; 113,000 MILES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CODE READ '3RD ENGINE BANK SENSORS.' DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS 'KNOCKING RODS COMING APART INSIDE THE ENGINE.' THE DEALERSHIP CURRENTLY HAS TWO KIA FORTES IN THE SHOP WITH THE SAME MILEAGE AND PROBLEM. SEEMS LIKE A PATTERN.
I HAD A 2010 KIA FORTE KOUP THAT CAUGHT ON FIRE 5/29/18 WHILE GOING DOWN A HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES/HR. BEFORE THE FIRE BEGAN, THERE WAS SOME KNOCKING IN THE ENGINE AND ALL POWER WENT OUT, INCLUDING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND POPPED THE HOOD TO SEE FLAMES COMING OUT OF THE ENGINE. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THEY DIDN'T MAKE IT IN TIME, AND THE WHOLE CAR WAS A COMPLETE LOSS. I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT UP WITH THE OIL CHANGES AND HAVING ALL FLUIDS CHECKED AND FILLED AS NEEDED. I HAVE HAD ALL RECALLS DONE AS THEY BECAME AVAILABLE. THE FIRE WAS IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND GAVE NO WARNING BEFORE THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WENT OUT. ALL WE COULD DO IS EVACUATE THE CAR, GET AS FAR AWAY FROM IT AS POSSIBLE, AND CALL 911. IT WAS DEVOURED WITHIN MINUTES WITH FLAMES, AND IS NOW A COMPLETE LOSS. I HAVE CONTACTED KIA INTERNATIONAL (CASE #12745414) WHO TOLD ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED, SO THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO. I ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM CNA NATIONAL, BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY WEREN'T RESPONSIBLE FOR MECHANICAL ISSUES.

I SPOKE WITH 3 MECHANICS, ALL SAID IT'S A COMMON ENGINE PROBLEM WITH KIA'S AND THEY SAID IT WAS SPUN CRANK ON THE ROD BEARINGS AND IT'S A COMMON ISSUE WITH KIA'S. I HAVE HAD THE CAR SINCE 2010 AND ONLY HAVE 50K MILES ON IT. THEY REFUSE TO HONOR THEIR 100,000 MILES 10 YEAR WARRANTY.

THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
WHILE DRIVING CAR STARTED TO MAKE KNOCKING NOISES COMING FROM ENGINE. LAST WEEK THURSDAY. ( MAY 31, 2018) MILEAGE AT 65K. THEN SUDDENLY ENGINE OFF' ON ITS OWN. DID NOT WANT TO START. STARTER AND BATTERY WAS FINE BASED ON TOWING COMPANY STAFF WHO HELPED WITH TOW. NEXT DAY HAD A MECHANIC DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM ENGINE, HE INDICATED THE ENGINE HAS LOCKED, OIL LEVEL WAS GOOD BUT WAS SLUDGY. HAD AN ANNUAL OIL CHANGE MID FEB 2018. I NORMALLY DRIVE TO AND FROM WORK IT TAKES ABOUT 15MINS. WITH TRAFFIC 20MINS. I STAY IN GUAM, ISLAND IS QUITE SMALL 18 MILES WIDE AND 31 MILES LONG. CALLED DEALER ASKED ABOUT RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM TO BE TOLD NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN FILED BY KIA BASED ON MY VEHICLES VIN NUMBER. SEARCHED THE WEB FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SIMILAR OR SAME PROBLEM. A CLASS ACTION SUIT HAS BEEN FILED IN QUEBEC CANADA ON THIS MATTER FOR KIA FORTE 2010 ENGINE PROBLEMS/LOCKING. HOPEFULLY I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON SUFFERING FROM THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP.
ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO METAL FLAKES IN ENGINE (SAME AS RECENT RECALL ON OTHER MODELS). NO LIGHTS OR INDICATORS PRESENT, ENGINE WAS MAKING ABNORMAL NOISES AND TOOK CARE IN BEFORE A CATASTROPHIC INDECENT.
ENGINE HAS BEEN ACTING UP. KNOCKING. TAPPING. LESS POWER. MPG IN THE 20S. GET GAS 127000 MILES ON IT. HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. OVERALL DEFECTIVE ENGINE. I HOPE THEY RECALL THIS ENGINE SOON BEFORE LOTS OF PEOPLE GET HURT WHEN THEIR ENGINE CRAPS OUT ON THEM DOING 70 ON THE FREEWAY.
AS I WAS EXITING THE HIGHWAY I HEARD A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN SMOKE START TO COME FRO M UNDER HOOD AND OUT THE BACK OF THE CAR. AS THAT WAS HAPPENING I HEARD A LOUD BANG THEN MY ENGINE SHUT OFF BEFORE I COULD PULL OVER. AFTER I WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND AFTER MY CAR WENT THROUGH A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK I WAS TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT MY ENGINE FAILED EVEN THOUGH IT WAS IN GREAT CONDITION AND WE'LL MAINTAINED.
THROTTLE BODY ORIGINAL AND REPLACEMENT PART DEFECTIVE. INTERMITTENT NO START. VEHICLE STATIONARY. WILL JUST CRANK AND NOT START AFTER SITTING FOR AWHILE. ONCE IT STARTS USUALLY GOOD UNTIL VEHICLE SITS FOR AWHILE THEN IT'S DIFFICULT TO START AGAIN.. ORIGINAL ITEM REPLACED MAR 24 2016. SAME PROBLEM OCCURRING NOW IN FEB 17 WITH NEW PART. WAS TOLD THAT THROTTLE BODY HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH OTHER CUSTOMERS BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN AT CARSMART AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR IN LOGAN UTAH.
I HAVE KIA FORTE WHICH WAS RUNNING FINE. UNTIL I CHANGE THE STARTER THEN THE OIL WAS PUMPING TO THE ENGINE IT WOULD KNOCK LOUDLY & IF I WOULD ANY LONGER IT WOULD BLOW THE ENGINE.
WHEN AT STOPPED POSITION I STEP ON FOOTFEED AND RPMS DO NOT INCREASE AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. THE RPMS AS SHOWN ON THE GAUGE SHOW THAT IT IS IN THE IDLE STATE UNTIL THE SUDDEN SURGE. THIS MOSTLY HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO ADVANCE SLOWLY. THIS HAPPENS INFREQUENTLY BUT PRESENTS A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN IT HAPPENS IN CLOSE FACILITY OR WHEN IN TRAFFIC. THE DELAY IN VEHICLE MOVEMENT MAY BE AS LONG AS 10 SECONDS AND THEN IT JUST JUMPS TO CURRENT DEMAND FROM THE FOOTFEED. THIS HAPPENS RARELY BUT WHEN IT HAPPENS IT REALLY ALARMS THE DRIVER. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY KIA FORTE THE ENGINE STALLED. IT HAPPENED TWO TIMES IN THE LAST PAST TWO MONTHS. AFTER BRINGING MY CAR TWICE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR BECAUSE THEY DO NOT FIND ANY CODE ON THE COMPUTER. SECOND INCIDENT OF STALLING WHILE OPERATING A 2010 KIA FORTE EX W/ AUTO TRAN AND THE "FUEL ECONOMY" PACKAGE. IN BOTH INSTANCES I HAD COME TO A STOP -- THE FIRST TIME (ABOUT 2 MOS. AGO) WAS UPON EXECUTING A HARD STOP, BUT TODAY I HAD SLOWED GRADUALLY AND THEN STOPPED FOR A RED LIGHT. BOTH TIMES, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND RADIO REMAINED ON BUT THE ENGINE SIMPLY CUT OUT. CAR WAS IN "DRIVE" AND IN BOTH INSTANCES WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH PRIOR TO STOPPING. THE STEERING DID NOT LOCK. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR WITHOUT DIFFICULTY AFTER PUTTING IT IN "PARK." I WAS UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM ONCE I HAD A CHANCE TO SAFELY TRY DOING SO. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THERE WERE ONLY ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT I COULD BRING THE CAR IN BUT THAT IF THEY COULDN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM, THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE/FIX IT. THEY DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO STALL. TODAY'S INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER THE DEALERSHIP HAD CLOSED BUT I WILL CALL THEM IN THE MORNING TO REPORT IT. THIS TIME I INTEND TO TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AS I HAVE A LONG DAILY COMMUTE WITH A SMALL CHILD AND AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. *TR

2010 KIA FORTE PURCHASED BRAND NEW ON 10/17/09. 1ST TIME TAKEN IN TO DEALERSHIP FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON (10/27/09) DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT WAS CODE PO304--MISFIRE #4 THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM AND UPDATED THE COMPUTER. DIAGNOSTIC BEING CLEARED. 2ND TIME TAKEN IN ON 11/11/09 FOR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON ONCE AGAIN AND THE SAME CODE COMING UP PO304. ALSO 8 DIFFERENT RECALLS ON THE CAR INCLUDING GAS CAP, CRUISE CONTROL, TRANSMISSION, COMPUTER SYSTEM AND OTHERS OF THE SAME NATURE. ALSO THE CAR IS ACCELERATING BY IT SELF. THEY ARE GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH KIA CORPORATE HEAD QUARTERS AND THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX ANY OF THE PROBLEMS. KIA AGREED TO PUT ME IN A RENTAL CAR AND THAT IS WHAT I AM REMAINING TO DRIVE AT THE PRESENT TIME. *TR
