2018 Jeep Wrangler Other Problems

UNKNOWN what failed because it burned to the ground. August 8, 2025 The Jeep was running and driving normal. I pulled over into Robert Louis Stevenson Park parking area to let my kids (ages 3 and 4) out for a potty break.

As I was driving this vehicle alone on [XXX] , I smelled a burning smell and the clutch seemed to have trouble shifting gears. I was driving approximately 40 MPH, attempted to shift gears, heard a loud bang and saw fire at my feet, looked in the rear view mirror and saw fire in the back. I pulled the emergency break and jumped out of the car.

I was driving on the freeway around 75 MPH I’m not sure what happened or why but the jeep started violently shaking back-and-forth I’m not sure how to explain it. But I very easily could have lost control. Where I live there is snow and ice so I’m not sure why that happened but would like to see if there’s something I could check.

While driving my daughter to daycare, the rear window spontaneously exploded. The vehicle was stopped at a traffic light. Our daughter was in the backseat in a rear facing car seat and she was inconsolable after the event due to the loud sound.

There has been a recall since February 2023 that has not been handled yet. I have yet to receive any information on how they are handling this recall that is a potential fire hazard. 10 months should be sufficient time to be in touch with consumers.

I had just purchase this used with 19000 miles on it. It had already had all of the recalls performed for the clutch. I was on the highway in moderate traffic, when the clutch suddenly fell to the floor for no reason as I had already been in fifth gear for a while.

Driver side sun visor has a failed connection to the vehicle frame, resulting in the visor falling down in front of the driver's field of view. This happened spontaneously and nearly resulted in a crash. This is an issue many owners of Jeep Wrangler JLs have experienced.

There is a common complaint among owners of 2018 and newer Jeep Wranglers. The visors can become detached from their main support allowing them to impede the visibility of the driver and any passengers in the vehicle.

The Uconnect (Infotainment System) screen in our vehicle has suffered from delamination. The delamination between the two parts of the screen has resulted in persistent "ghost touching". This is where the screen acts as if it has been touched even though it has not.

While traveling this weekend, my 2018 jeep went into "death wobble" which caused loss of control of vehicle on a highway causing me to exit the road. I was going about 70 MPH at the time and there were some imperfections on the road. I search online when home and saw that this has been an issue in the past.

Just got onto highway, going about 72 MPH, hit a small bump and car started violently shaking (frequently referred to as death wobble). Once I pulled over and stopped the wobble went away. This happened the day after I brought my vehicle in for a recall to replace the steering column damper which supposedly caused this problem to begin with.

On friday, september 20, 2019, we were towing our jeep wrangler behind our 25 foot coachman prism rv on highway 95 in maryland. We hit a bump in the highway going about 70 MPH and our rv was shaking so bad and sounded like we had a flat tire. The shaking wouldn't stop so within a half mile we managed to pull over to the breakdown lane and stop.

There's about a half second delay in the horn when pressing the center of the steering wheel. This could be a safety concern if you're trying to warn an unattentive motorist in a potential collision.

New 2018 wrangler jl sport with 1500 miles. Reporting that when I ride over a bump, such as a transition from pavement to an overpass, at a speed greater than 55 or 60 MPH, the front end violently shakes / wobbles as what I hear other describe as a death wobble. This forces me to reduce speed to as low as 20 MPH for the wobble to cease.

I have been experiencing the jeep death wobble when I drive my jeep on the freeway. It is very frightening, I have to whip knuckle the steering wheel to keep the car in the lane and not swerve out of the lane. The shake is so violent it feels like the tires are going to fall off.

While driving on the highway, going around a bend at 65 miles an hour, the jeep started shaking so violently I had to pull over to the side of the road. It felt like the jeep was going to fall apart right under me. It stopped shaking when I slowed down to around 35 miles.

When driving our new 2018 jeep wrangler jl sport, that has not been modified, we have experienced on numerous occasions what is come to be known as the death wobble. It began around the 5,000 mile range. This happens when we hit a pothole, expansion joint or quite honestly any abnormality in the road and the speed of the vehicle can be anywhere from 40 MPH or higher.

Jeep frame welds have a lot of porosity and slag. Many of the welds all over the frame do not appear to be complete and look unsafe. Nothing has been done to the jeep and was this way from the factory.

While this vehicle was parked in a parking lot, and off it exploded into flames. *bf consumer stated car was parked around 9pm and noticed the fire around 3:00am, so about 6 hours. Police and fire crew concluded that the fire started from faulty wiring.

As I was exiting the highway I noticed that flames were coming out of the jeep. I merged two lanes over to try to turn on a side street and lost control of the steering. I put the jeep in park, turned it off, and exited the vehicle.

The Jeep was being driven to a dealership to get checked for recalls due to the engine stuttering and stalling, radio and navigation not working, and just not running right. All of the sudden the engine ‘blew up’ and it stopped running. The Jeep was rolled to the side of the road and oil was seen leaking out of a hole in the underside of the engine.

Fca (jeep chrysler) has issued a notification to owners via v88: "the rear quarter windows vertical retainer on your vehicle may not be properly installed to the door rail after removal.

My 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL only now has 77,700 miles and got a blown head gasket!? This is so UNACCEPTABLE! Makes me regret ever purchasing!

The Instrument Panel Cluster in my Jeep is flickering and then goes blank. I had it evaluated at a Jeep dealership and they recommend replacement. I'm uploading their assessment of the problem.

The check engine light came on, I took it to the dealership from where I purchased it and always take for oil changes and repairs. I was told I need a right cam shaft replaced and that the part is on back order indefinitely. I was advised by one mechanic to not drive it and a different one said to go short distances and if the check engine starts flashing to immediately pull over and shut it off.

There is a recall for the vehicle VIN I have entered however the dealership is telling me that my vehicle doesn't qualify even though it was purchased in the US and I was not aware of recall and I just purchased it in March 2025. When I took it to a Dodge dealership regarding the pressure plate recall they would not take the vehicle.

The dash instrument panel went black and wouldn’t turn back on. I did not know my speed, could not see my odometer, or my gas information. I brought my jeep to the nearest dealership to diagnose and found that I need a new instrument cluster, this was back in February.

I have a 2018 jeep wrangler jk unlimited sport. And it has been shaking controllably once I go over 40 MPH or when I hit a bump. Sometimes it’s hard to control the vehicle when this starts to happen on the high way.

This part is required to make the vehicle drivable. 68661147AA intake camshaft. The vehicle has been off road in a dealership since 2/26/2025.

Radiator overflow bottle leaks. Warning light only comes on after empty. Refill of antifreeze was necessary every two weeks or less depending on driving conditions.

Been trying to get the recall fixed in Kentucky. But dealer says its a Canadian vehicle and will not repair until made endless phone calls to USA and Canada and just get the run around. This has been going on since August 23.

Paint bubbling and Rust accumulation on all 4 doors and door hinges, hood and hood hinges and varius body panels. Jeep has been taken to a Jeep dealership and no further communication from Jeep on if this is going to be corrected or not. Engineers should know not to put steel and aluminum together without proper coatings or protections.

When I hit a bump of any size my Jeep starts shaking uncontrollably. The first time it happened I had a panic attack because I had no idea what was going on and feared for my life. I pulled to the right side of the road and came to a complete stop for it to stop shaking. Everyone’s safety around me could me at risk including mine since sometimes I don’t know when it’ll happen and I can’t take my hand off the steering wheel to try and see to move over to the right side of the road. It happens very often. First time was I believe in March 2023.

Paint is bubbling causing rust-

Had a diagnostic done for a leak that had happened yesterday. It is the Oil filter housing under intake. From 13-17 there ARE recalls on this but for an 18 there isn’t.

2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Sport Unlimited rubber hood catch failed due to gust of wind generated by oncoming semi-truck on two lane highway (HWY 54) while being driven at highway speed. Luckily the other rubber catch and front center hood safety catch hook did not fail.

The service axle locker system warning light started to appear, and it means the lockers are either poorly functioning, or a wiring\electronic issue has occurred. This is dangerous either way.

FIRST off the vehicle locked up with every light on. it had to be tolled. we put a new battery and it worked for awhile.

The Uconnect screen is delaminating causing the screen to change and override all driver selections at will while driving. This is a safety risk because it is a huge distraction while driving when the system is changing settings back and forth while beeping. The problem was confirmed by my Jeep dealer and since I'm out of warranty it will be over $1,000 to replace.

Multiple times the check engine light, air bag lights, powertrain light have went off. I took it to the dealership, they said nothing was wrong and reset the lights. The last time this happened, all power went out on my Jeep Wrangler.

Instrument cluster failed at 5 AM (completely dark) when wife on interstate on way to airport: no speedometer, no odometer, no gas gauge, no “idiot” lights, and so on – all of which have safety concerns associated with them. Took 2 weeks to get appt.

I received a letter stating there was a recall on the clutch. About a month later I was driving and all of a sudden I was unable to shift, there was a cloud of smoke behind my jeep. I was only a few miles from home so very slowly I got there.

I have a 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited sport and a couple months ago I had an error message pop up saying service shifter not even a week later my jeep started flashing lights inside as well as the engine start stop warning came up and the check engine light came on.

I took my jeep in to have it looked at because it started making a clicking sound. They told me I needed to file an insurance claim to repair the jeep. The actual wording was "upon inspection found impact damage on lower right control arm.

Vehicle has been garage kept except for this one day. We where getting ready for a trip and that night it rained and we noticed when moving that was a water leak. The leak was coming from the center of the freedom panels.

My 2018 jeep wrangler violently wobbles every time when going above 60 miles/hour and hits the smallest bump. The dealership told me that to fix the issue I have to change all four tires and that I have to pay for it.

Electronic throttle. Stationary want start wait a few minutes to 20 minutes. The close dealership is 2 to 3 hours.

59800 miles, and a leaking radiator. Seems like it's leaking on where the plastic is crimped to the aluminum. This is my second wrangler and 2nd one with this issue.

Back up camera screen will occasionally turn blue or black when vehicle is put in reverse. Dealer has been unable to replicate and resolve this issue. After talking to other jeep owners this seem to be a somewhat common issue with no resolution from jeep.

Backup camera randomly does not work. Sometimes the backup camera will work but without the guidelines. And sometimes the backup camera will not work at all, only showing the navigation GPS screen completely black.

Vehicle intermittently will not start, anti-theft light flashing. Vehicle will restart after sitting 10-15 miniutes

Currently I have two issues I believe my 2018 wrangler jl to be experiencing. The first is a constant clicking noise coming from the undercarriage of the vehicle, mainly in the rear. This occurs at slow speeds (10mph or less).

Three times within the last 2 weeks, I have been on the expressway and the car started shaking violently side to side. Each time I was between 60 and 75 MPH the shaking stopped when I got down under 45 MPH. It felt as if the car was going to shake apart.

UPON HITTING A BUMP OF ROAD DEFECT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOBBLES UNCONTROLLABLY UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE SPEED IS REDUCED, OFTEN TO UNSAFE LIMITS ON THE SAME HIGHWAY. THE ISSUE HAS OCCURRED ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS, TOO MANY TO LIST BELOW.

Front left wheel speed sensor malfunction found at dealer when plugged in diagnostics

This new vehicle was sold to me with open recall on track bar frame welds that they never told us about the dealer had me drive it back to them which was s 3 hour drive which I did but I'm very upset when I found out that they could be fined and the dealer put my whole family at possible risk twice home and back because of there mistake I do believe that there holding documents from being finalized with this car but am not sure

2018 JEEP WRANGLER JL. FRONT END WILL SHAKE VIOLENTLY ON OCCASION WHEN GOING OVER 55 MPH- HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK. I INITIALLY THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE AND IT FEELS LIKE THE TIRES ARE GOING TO FALL OFF. IT WILL CONTINUE UNTIL VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN WHICH IS DIFFICULT TO DO ON THE HIGHWAY!! THIS IS A STOCK VEHICLE WITH ONLY 2800 MILES ON IT. I'VE SEEN OTHERS DESCRIBE IT AS A "DEATH WOBBLE" AND IT'S DEFINITELY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS. SEEMS LIKE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE ABOUT IT. I'VE OWNED 6 JEEPS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS.

BACKUP CAMERA GUIDELINES HAVE DISAPPEARED AND THE SCREEN GOES BLACK AT TIMES

Vehicle's front end shakes uncontrollably when you hit a bump at high speeds. You almost have to stop in order to stop the shaking. It has been occurring continuously since I got the car.

After running my 2018 jeep wrangler sahara unlimited jl for a short time, I would shut the car off then when restarted five minutes later, I would smell "maple syrup". Constant problem when car heated up to running temp. Fan box emitted smell.

Heater cores on the 2018 wrangler jl have coolant leaks spraying toxic aresolized coolant into the cabin when heat is in use. I am a member of the wrangler jl forums and many owners are reporting this - Jeep egolf in brevard, nc verified my leak and completed a heater core replacement this month.

At highway speeds an extreme front end - steering vibration (wobble) has occurred on several occasions causing a dangerous situation of having to immediately slow down on the highway. I then maneuver to the side of the roadway where it will re-set and I continue on. This condition has occurred several times over the past month and twice yesterday.

Whith only 6,ooo miles on my wrangler I noticed some slight shimmying while driving on the main roads then when I got on the expressway I had just reached about 65mph and my jeep started shaking uncontrollably which forced me to pull over and call a tow truck. It took almost two months for the part to come in ( stearing damper) and 2 tries for the dealership to fix the problem.

There is a strong smell of coolant coming from the AC vents . One day we saw a puff of white smoke come out of the AC vent . After that we took it to the dealer and they said they replaced the heater core .

I have a 2018 jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon with frame welds that exhibit excessive porosity and in some cases, off location. I have visited two separate dealers a total of three different times. The third time was a charm and the service advisor agreed that the frame welds were not "in spec" according to fca's star bulletin s1813000001.

Frame welds are pitted, rusting, incomplete, and have numerous inclusions and porosity. This is all over the frame. Included is a picture of a weld on a body mount.

Frame has terrible welds, porosity along frame weld lines, rusting already along weld lines, seemingly missing welds, welds that won't go deep enough to retain structural integrity when reported to fca, they stood behind the integrity of the welds, and the dealership that performed the inspection noted that the welds 'looked fine because they looked just like the welds on a vehicle that had just been delivered'.

My 2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JL's "Driver Information Digital Cluster Display" (on dash; in front of steering wheel) goes blank or vigorously flickers and then turns off. This has been an ongoing issue. You cannot see vehicle information at all - gauges, system information, speed, etc.

The screen is delaminating causing erratic glitching and jumping all over the place, happens everyday, I can't use the GPS or music or any apps

My dash board instrument cluster stopped working. No warning signs, just stopped. How is my vehicle not part of the dashboard cluster recall for 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler JL?

Engine oil cooler - This Mopar factory part is sub par. It is made out of metal and plastic and placed in the hottest spot of the vehicle and fails at approx 50, 000 miles. After I have done some research at local garages, this item failure is very common.

Paint is bubbling on all 4 doors, starting to flake off along with rust and corrosion on all 4 door hinges.

The screen on my 2018 Jeep wrangler Sahara unlimited is de-laminating. It is causing issues with the touch screen and begins to do things on its own. It is a safety concern due to it being distracting while driving.

My back window on my Jeep Wrangler will not zip back up all the way. I have only unzipped the back window once, and that was to wipe the inside of the window because it was hard to see clearly though the back window. When I tried zipping the window back up, the zipper did not zip up all the way, and now there is an opening, and water is getting into my jeep.

The right side sun visor broke. One month later the driver side visor broke. Both by the mounting stem.

Strong oder of exhaust when accelerating at high way speeds. The smell lingers in the cab of the Jeep until I open a window. Is strong enough to also smell while the top is down.

Sun visor falls out of the plastic bracket. Is now held in place only by the electrical wire. The small plastic clip holding it in place has broken.

Sun visor mount breaks causing visor to hang down and obscure view. Had to pull over and then hold visor while it is hanging down to be able to continue driving without an obscured view.

Bad frame welds all over the frame. Porosity, missing sections of weld, pinholes, excessive scatter, protective paint chipping.

When having AC on and speeding between 60-75 MPH a burnt like smell comes through AC vents temporarily

Wind noice in corner of passenger side and in the middle of tops. Bought vehicle new 2/4/18 and has been in the shop for last 45 days trying to fix. Noice is worsens depending on direction and how strong the winds are blowing.

When attempting to start jeep, lights and everything comes on but will not start. If left alone for 10-30 minutes then try again it starts up. Battery and starter are not the issue.

I go and get in my jeep, it's raining a little turn on defrost and the windshield cracks, just sitting still, it's not snowing sleeting or freezing rain just raining

Missing welds and very poor and incomplete welds on the frame horns. Was replacing front bumper and noticed a weld that burned right through the metal in the frame and left a hole through the metal allowing the weather and elements to penetrate the inside of the frame.

I got behind the wheel of a 2018 jeep wrangler, adjusted my seat for optimal comfort, visibility, and hands / feet position for safe operation of the vehicle and then noticed that the design / position of the dash obstructed the view of the speedometer and tachometer (among other info) while the vehicle is in motion (I was not in motion). This obviously can cause issues with safe operation.

About a week and half ago I got in my vehicle and turned the vehicle on (still in park) when I received two warning/service alerts. First was, "service electronic stability control", and second, "stop/start unavailable service stop/start system". Fyi, the vehicle has only been in my possession for a few months, something like this shouldn't happen.

There are several locations on the frame of my vehicle with poor welds. The bead is not uniform, penetration is poor, and there is some porosity.

My rear glass imploded while the jeep was parked in my driveway. I was 30 feet away heard a pop, turned around and saw the glass all over the driveway. There was no evidence of anything hitting the glass.

While the defrost was on heat, and with cold teperatures outside, the windshield cracked on its own

Sent to tower in plymouth mi to weld jeep frames that robot was not welding correctly. Told to just cover them up and they will just paint frames. Told they have to meet their production numbers.
