BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles. An improperly connected coaxial cable may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Fix: Dealers will secure the coaxial cable connection, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 40B.
BACK OVER PREVENTION:SOFTWARE
Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee L vehicles. Incorrect software in the rearview camera module may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Fix: Dealers will update the rearview camera module software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 21, 2025. Owners may contact FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is D5B.

This triggered brake rotor damage and brake caliper cracks, which then led to tire failure and suspension damage. The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while her mother was driving, the rearview camera displayed a distorted image while the vehicle was in reverse(R) and failed to sound as intended, compromising the back-over prevention system. The contact stated that the failure prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact stated that her mother had been involved in a low-speed parking lot accident. The vehicle moved forward and hit a brick wall, where it came to a stop. It was unknown if warning lights were illuminated. The driver-side and passenger-side air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The body damage was repaired. However, the rearview camera was not repaired. The insurance company was contacted. Weeks later, the contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign number: 24V944000 (BACK OVER PREVENTION). On a separate occasion, the contact was driving at 5 MPH while parallel parking, the rearview camera image froze, compromising the back-over prevention system. The contact stated that the failure prevented the driver from safely operating the vehicle. Due to the failure, the contact hit a cement flower pot, where it came to a stop. The driver-side and passenger-side air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries sustained. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The insurance company was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,115.
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the display screen mal-functioned and the back over prevention camera froze with an image that there was no object behind the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer performed a software update however, the failure of the frozen screen with the back over prevention camera persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the wires were checked, and the dealer performed a factory reset. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure, but the dealer stated the manufacture was working on a software update to be available by the end of February 2024. The failure mileage was approximately 230.
