The Electronic Throttle Control light(steady) and the Electronic Stability Control Activation/Malfunction Indicator Lights came on. There are times the engine light comes on. The vehicle would not accelerate, jerking kind of movement, going 20 miles.
MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THROTTLE BODY RESULTING IN A LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL OF VEHICLE. BACK IN 2017, I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR JERKING, CUTTING OUT, AND LOSING POWER. TOOK CAR TO A JEEP DEALERSHIP AND THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED. AGAIN DURING THE SUMMER OF 2020, VEHICLE STARTED LOSING ABILITY TO CONSISTENTLY ACCELERATE. CAR BEGAN JERKING, CUTTING OUT, AND LOSING POWER ON THE ROADS AND HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE THROTTLE LIGHT, STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL, AND ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THROTTLE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. REPORTED TO JEEP CORPORATE OFFICE WITH NO RESOLUTION. SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. JEEP DOESN'T CARE AND IS CLAIMING NO RESPONSIBILITY UNTIL A RECALL HAS TO BE ISSUED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP COMPASS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO DRIVE AND DROVE TO HER DESTINATION. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HUNTINGTON BEACH CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM LOCATED AT 16701 BEACH BLVD, HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 92647, (714) 841-3999, TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY, SPARK PLUGS AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,629.
THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM, HAD A PREVIOUS RECALL
THE CONNECTION FROM THE GAS TO THE THROTTLE APPEARS TO BE FAILING. THE CAR WILL STAY ON WHILE DRIVING BUT WILL NO LONGER ACCELERATE OR WILL RANDOMLY ACCELERATE. AFTER IT HAPPENS, THE THROTTLE LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. *TR
THIS CAR I BOUGHT ON 9-/14/2019 HAD AN OPEN RECALL ON IT FOR A CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS COMPLETED. I NOW FIND OUT IT IS NOT AND THE CAR WILL NOT HO OVER 20MPH. I HAVE AN APPT WITH THE DEALER WHO IS OVER 30 MILES VIA INTERSTATE AND IT HAS TO BE TOWED I DONT HAVE TOW INSURANCE AND IT WILL COST OVER200 TO GET IT THERE WILL I BE REIMBURSED.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MILES PER HOUR MY JEEP COMPASS LOSS POWER. THE ENGINE LIGHT, ETC LIGHT ESC LIGHT ALL CAME ON AS I WAS DRIVING. THIS IN TURN IMMEDIATELY DROPPED MY SPEED DOWN TO 20 MILES PER HOUR.
WHILE DRIVING, THE ENGINE LOSES POWER AND THROTTLE CONTROL, TRACTION CONTROL, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. VEHICLE GOES INTO "LIMP" MODE AND WON'T ACCELERATE ABOVE 10-15 MPH. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT THERE ISN'T A RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD.
2014 JEEP COMPASS SPORT LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THIS VEHICLE WENT FROM GOING 65-70 MILES PER HOUR TO BARELY BEING ABLE TO GET UP TO SPEED OF 30MPH THAT IS WITH PRESSING ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. ONCE EXITING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER WHEN PRESSING ACCELERATOR PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE WILL START, BUT BARLEY HAS ANY POWER TO DRIVE. THIS IS VERY LIFE THREATENING AND DANGEROUS! THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN NOTED AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED WAY BEFORE NOW. I HAVE SEEN REVIEWS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS. 2014 JEEP COMPASS LOST SUDDEN SPEED ON INTERSTATE. COULDN'T ACCELERATE OVER 20MPH. 4X4, 'LIGHTENING BOLT' , TRACTION CONTROL AND ENGINE LIGHTS ALL ON. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING IN HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. WAS ALMOST HIT BY A TRANSFER TRUCK.
VEHICLE HAS ISSUES ACCELERATING SPUTTERS AND JERKS BETWEEN 25 AND 45 MILES PER HOUR. HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THIS ISSUE AND SAYS IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A DEFECTIVE OR DAMAGED TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES AND WAS JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED FROM A DEALER AND HAD A GOOD RATING. VEHICLE HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASE AND HAS BEGUN TO GET WORSE. THIS ISSUE ONLY HAPPENS WHEN SHIFTING FROM 2 ND TO 3 RD.
CAR DOES NOT WANT TO GO OVER 20 CAN PUSH ON THE GAS AND WILL NOT GO FASTER
DRIVING WHEN I LOST POWER, EVEN PUSHING ON THE GAS... THE CAR SLOWED TO UNDER 20MPH. A FEW LIGHTS CAME UP ON DASH (CHECK ENGINE, TRACTION CONTROL, LIGHTNING BOLT) ENGINE STUTTERED AND CARS WERE SWERVING TO GO AROUND ME BECAUSE I HAD NO POWER NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PUSHED ON THE GAS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED TO ME, I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY.
ETC LIGHTS COMES IN AND THE CAR THE LOOSES POWER. IT GOES LIMP AND WANTS TO STALL. IT LOSES CONTROL OVER THE THROTTLE.
UPON DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, MY CAR CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP CAUSING TRAFFIC TO SHUTTER AROUND ME AND MY NOW 60MPH CAR JERKED TO A 20MPH SPEED. THIS WAS UNSAFE AND NOW THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE ABOVE 20MPH. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE MENTIONING THIS ONLINE AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO TAKE NOTE!

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY SAID I NEED AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND GASKET. THE NEXT DAY AFTER THEY ACCESSED MY I RECEIVED A RED LIGHTENING BOLT SIGNAL AND THE CAR STALLED THEN IT STARTED BACK UP WITH A JERKING AND SHUDDERING IN THE STREET. I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE INTO MY JOBS PARKING LOT AT THIS MOMENT THE CAR US STILL THERE I HAVE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY HAVE OPENED A CASE NUMBER BUT HAVE TO GET BACK TO ME ON THEIR ASSESSMENT. SO I'M OUT OF CAR TO GET TO WORK MY BOSS AFTER WORKING 12 HOURS OFFERED TO TAKE ME HOME NOW I HAVE TO GET AN UBER OR LYFT TO AND FROM WORK
CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DISENGAGE IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN WHICH MYSELF AND WIFE COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY KILLED.! LATER,ON CHECKING THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THIS WAS A CONDITION OTHER JEEP COMPASS OWNERS HAD HAD,,,,I FOUND 'RECALLS' ON OTHER JEEP PRODUCTS ' NOTIFYING OTHER JEEP OWNERS OF JEEP CHEROKEE, JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE, AND JEEP WRANGLERS' SPECIFICALLY WITH PROBLEMS OF JEEP CRUISE CONTROLS NOT DISENGAGING' ,,,,BUT NO RECALLS ON JEEP COMPASS',,,, WHICH I HAD JUST HAD THAT SAME EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION HAPPEN ! WHILE GETTING OFF OF PM SHIFT, AROUND 2330, I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN ONLY 3 MILES INTO DRIVING. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 15 MILES AN HOUR IN A 40MPH ZONE. THE LIGHTNING BOLT FOR ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WAS FLASHING, THEN STOPPED, THEN MY CHECK ENGINE AND MY ANTI SKID(?) WAS LIT UP. I PULLED OVER TO A SIDE STREET, PUT IN PARK ONLY TO HAVE MY ENGINE IDLE AT 2K RPM. THANK GOODNESS I HAD MY PHONE AND A FRIEND WITH SOME CAR KNOWLEDGE. TOLD ME TO LEAVE IN PARK AND RESTART MY CAR. TURNED ON AND ONCE I SHIFTED OUT OF PARK IT HAPPENED AGAIN. HE STAYED ON THE PHONE WITH ME FOR THE REST OF MY DRIVE HOME THAT TOOK ME 45MIN BECAUSE OF NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE ANY FASTER THAN 15. A DRIVE THAT USUALLY WOULD TAKE ME 15 MINUTES TOOK MUCH LONGER. GLAD MY KIDS WEREN'T IN THE CAR BECAUSE I ALMOST GOT HIT 2X BY 18 WHEELERS COMING OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. NOT TO MENTION IT WAS ONLY 27 DEGREES OUT (WITHOUT THE CHICAGO WIND CHILL)AND WOULD HAVE HAD TO WAIT PROBABLY 30+ MINUTES FOR A TOW OR RIDE TO PICK ME UP HAD IT NOT RESTARTED. BEYOND LIVID THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME THING AND NOTHING BEING DONE. GOING TO HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THIS FIX, RIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, AWESOME!

CHRYSLER, JEEP WEST VALLEY IN RESEDA, CALIFORNIA DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF THE MILEAGE WARRANTY COVERAGE OF 30,000. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,900.
