Owner Complaints (18)
Your Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failed without any warning, causing your vehicle to suddenly lose all power and the ability to drive while traveling in winter conditions. This put you, your passengers, and other drivers on the road at serious risk. A certified Jeep dealer confirmed the PTU failure. Repairs will likely involve replacing the PTU assembly.

While driving your 2022 Jeep Cherokee, you heard a loud clunk and lost the ability to accelerate, though power intermittently returned for brief periods before failing again. The vehicle rolled backward even while in park until the emergency brake was engaged, forcing you to call a tow truck. The dealership identified a failed power transfer unit but cannot provide an estimated repair time, and the part is unavailable from Mopar, leaving your vehicle unable to be repaired for at least two weeks. Fixing this issue will require replacing the power transfer unit, which is a complex transmission component.

Your vehicle stalled suddenly at a busy intersection with no warning lights or alerts to warn you beforehand. The dealership found the engine had leaks from brittle gaskets and identified a faulty fuel pump as the cause of the stalling. The repair will likely involve replacing the fuel pump and resealing leaking gaskets on the engine.

Your power transfer unit (PTU) has failed internally, which means your 4-wheel drive system isn't working and your car may roll away even when parked in Park. The dealer says the replacement part is on backorder and could take months to arrive. This is a known issue that has affected this model since 2019.

Your car started making grinding and thumping noises while driving on the parkway, then lost power and became unresponsive. Your dashboard lit up with warning lights, and a 'Service 4WD' message appeared. The transmission wouldn't respond to inputs, so you had to pull over and have the vehicle towed to a dealer. The dealer identified that your power transfer unit (PTU) needs replacement, but the part is currently backordered with no estimated arrival date.

Your 2022 Cherokee experienced a sudden hard jolt while accelerating from a stop light, then began rolling backward uncontrollably and wouldn't shift into any gear. The dealership diagnosed a failed TPU (transmission power unit) that also damaged your rear differential, with repair costs in the thousands. You discovered that 2016-2017 Cherokees had a recall for this exact problem, and parts are currently unavailable due to manufacturing issues.

Your 4WD service light is on and your vehicle has fault code C14A7-97, which the dealer says requires replacing the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). This same issue prompted a recall for 2016-2019 Cherokee models, and you're requesting that your 2022 vehicle be included in that recall repair program.

Your 4WD system warning light came on, and the dealership says your Power Transfer Unit (PTU) needs to be replaced. While the dealership says it's safe to drive, you've read that this problem can potentially cause loss of driving ability and the ability to shift into park — which is concerning for your daily highway commute. The replacement part is on backorder with no arrival date, leaving your vehicle in the shop indefinitely. Fixing this will require replacing the Power Transfer Unit, which is a major drivetrain component.

Your 4WD system is displaying a service light and showing as unavailable, with clicking and grinding noises coming from the drivetrain. Diagnostic codes C1494 and C1A797 have been identified, indicating a problem with the 4WD system. The repair will likely involve inspecting the transfer case, drive shafts, or related 4WD components to identify what's causing the mechanical noise and system failure.

Your transmission suddenly downshifts when you press the accelerator at various speeds, and your dashboard shows "Service 4WD" and "Service Forward Collision Warning" messages intermittently. The problem is hard to reproduce and dealers have been unable to diagnose it, though a code reader detected issues with the Power Control Unit. Your vehicle has not been repaired despite multiple dealer visits.

Your car makes a pumping or pulsing noise when accelerating to cruising speed, which started after you had your front brakes replaced a few months after purchase. The noise comes and goes intermittently, so it's not always present during diagnostics, and no warning lights have appeared. The mechanic may need to inspect the brake system components, electrical connections, or powertrain parts that could have been affected during the brake replacement.

Driving home from daughter's house and service 4wd light came on. Went next morning to dealership and was told the PTU power transfer unit has gone out and needs to be replaced and cannot use four wheel drive until replaced.
On [XXX], we were traveling from Seattle to Portland on [XXX] in my 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk with the cruise control set at around 75 mph. Suddenly the emergency collision braking system applied and all of the lights on my vehicle lit up. While the braking system was being applied the cruise control was simultaneously applying gas resulting in the vehicle RPM redlining on multiple occasions. Fortunately, the weather was good, traffic was light, and I was able to maintain control of the vehicle to pull over once a vehicle in the slow lane passed. When stopped the engine light was on, along with an alarm for loss of electronic stability control (ESC), and an alarm for brake service. After clearing the ESC alarm by restarting my vehicle multiple times as indicated in the owner's manual I tried to operate the vehicle. However, the vehicle would not move properly in to drive (noise and felt like the brake was applied). We then decided to contact Jeep roadside assistance for an emergency tow covered by the warranty. We towed the vehicle to the nearest Jeep dealership which was closed for the weekend. On Monday, the dealership informed us that the power transfer unit (PTU) had failed and would need to be replaced. Regarding additional mechanical damage, a determination could not be made until the PTU was replaced. On Tuesday, the dealership advised that the PTU was on an engineering hold until March 20th as the part was now being produced by a new vendor. At this time it appears my vehicle will be inoperable for more than a month until the part is released from the engineering hold. I am concerned that PTU failure is a serious safety defect similar to what has occurred in past model years of the Jeep Cherokee. Keep taking in for noise and a drag on takeoff…. Never can duplicate problem! Now told transfer case and do not know how long it will take as factory on strike???? They said we were # 10 in line as no rentals and I complained this has been on going for over a year with always can not duplicate problem!
The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently shifted into manual(M) mode without warning. The failure caused the vehicle to hesitate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact also stated that the Select-Terrain Traction Management System for the 4WD failed to operate as needed. Additionally, the contact stated that the turn signals, instrument panel, and key fob and other unknown electrical system failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on three separate occasions, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 300.
On Sunday evening (4/16/2023) we noticed a very scary noise coming from our 2022 Jeep Cherokee while we were on the freeway. No warning lights were on in the vehicle. Thankfully we were close to home when we noticed the noise and were able to immediately get off the 110 freeway. We decided not to drive the car and had it towed on Tuesday morning to the nearest Chrysler Dealership, Bravo CDJR of Alhambra. Today we received confirmation from the dealership that the PTU casing is cracked, leaking fluid and metal shavings were found. Dealer has recommended new PTU and PTU fluid. But they don't know when they'll be able to find the part for our vehicle since it is so new. I couldn't find a recall of this part for 2022 Jeep Cherokees online so I thought we should report it in case this is a faulty part. Thankfully on one was hurt in this case but it was a very scary situation.
Traveling in heavy morning traffic in inside lane at approximately 25mph, engine suddenly lost power with simultaneous ‘Shift to Park’ error message and brief flash of amber warning light on instrument panel. Vehicle would not accelerate when gas pedal pressed, engine only revved. Driver (myself) had to slam on brakes and quickly put car in P then back to D in order to get car to accelerate forward, narrowly avoiding multi-car collision from behind. Car is brand new ‘22 (owned only 6 days) with less than 600 miles total. Vehicle will be dropped off at dealership 9/11/22 for diagnostics.
