The vehicle's check engine light came on and the fuel gauge shows "E". I did an OBD scan and it shows the fuel sending unit has issues. The gauge will work intermittently and the check engine light will go away. Further reviews from others show the same issues with their vehicle with each needing a bad sending unit replaced.
2009 Hyundai Santa Fe Stalls out/DEATH TRAP, occasionally with no warning, seem to be when going up or down hills usually with quarter tank of gas approx. Possibly when decelerating. We have replaced both fuel pumps and it was ok for a while. The other day I was going down steep hill and it quit, i coasted to bottom and tried at least 10 times to restart. A DEATH TRAP for people, i had cars flying up on me almost rear ending me even thou I had my emergency flashers were on and my arm out the window flagging then around. I let car sit still a few minutes and it finally cracked. I started looking online for solutions but found many 2009 Santa Fe's have this problem. I called Hyundai and no Recall. I have already spend over $500 trying to repair this. I do see settlement against Hyundai for this problem on other years. They seem to know it is a problem but are not fixing unless forced. Please help.
MY GAS GAGE STARTED TO WORK IMPROPERLY. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC I TRUST. HE TOLD ME THE FUEL PUMP SENDERS WERE BAD. AFTER HE REMOVED THEM HE CALLED ME TO TELL ME I WAS LUCKY MY VEHICLE DIDN'T CATCH FIRE OR BLOW UP! ONE SENDER HAS INSULATION BROKEN AND THE WIRE IS EXPOSED. HE ALSO FOUND THAT AN INTERNAL WIRE WAS EVEN WORST. THE PROTECTIVE CONNECTOR WAS GONE! THAT LEFT THOSE WIRES WITH NO PROTECTION. THEY SHOW SIGNS OF BAD CORROSION ON BOTH THE WIRES AND THE TERMINALS. THEY APPEAR TO MAYBE EVEN HAVE SHORTED OUT. THEY ARE BLACK AND A RUST ORANGE COLOR. THEY ARE ALSO PITTED. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI. THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE. THEY WERE MORE CONCERNED THAT I HADN'T BROUGHT MY CAR TO A DEALER FOR OVER FIVE YEARS. I EXPLAINED THAT TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS HERE IN MIAMI HAD CHEATED ME AND TREATED ME BADLY. THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS TRYING TO INSIST IF I HAD BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN THEY WOULD HAVE DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM SOONER. THAT IS JUST NOT TRUE. THEY ONLY WAY TO OBSERVE THIS PROBLEM WAS TO PHYSICALLY REMOVE THE BACKSEAT AND OPEN THE FLOOR TO EXPOSE THE GAS TANK AND THEN REMOVE THE PUMP! THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING! I HAVE THE FEELING THAT THEY WON'T EVEN REPORT THIS TO THEIR OWN COMPANY OR TO YOU. I STILL HAVE THE PARTS. THEY WERE ALSO NOT INTERESTED IN SEEING THEM OR PICTURES. THEY JUST DON'T CARE! WHAT IF MY CAR CAUGHT FIRE? WHAT IF THE FUMES IGNITED? ANYONE IN THE BACKSEAT WOULD HAVE BEEN EITHER KILLED OR INJURED!
FILLED UP WITH GAS AND DID SOME GROCERY SHOPPING WITH MY WIFE. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, WE STARTED SMELLING STRONG FUEL COMING THROUGH AIR VENTS WHILE DRIVING AROUND. GOT HOME AND REMOVED ENGINE COVER AND SPOTTED FUEL SEEPING FROM THE FUEL RAIL ABOVE THE FUEL INJECTORS. THE FUEL RAIL TUBE IS MADE OF PLASTIC AND HAD CRACKED.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR FAILED FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. GAS GAUGE IS ERRATIC. WHEN I START THE CAR THE GAUGE FALLS TO EMPTY. NEVER KNOW EXACTLY HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE. VERY COSTLY TO REPAIR.

STARTING THE CAR AGAIN ON THE SAME DAY OR THE NEXT DAY, THE GAGE COMES UP AGAIN TO THE FULL OR HALF WAY MARK AND THE LIGHT GOES OUT. THE CAR STALLS WHILE IN CITY TRAFFIC CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION ANOTHER CAR COULD CRASH INTO ME.
THE FUEL GAUGE VARIES WIDELY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO KNOW AT TIMES HOW MUCH GAS THE CAR TRULY HAS. THIS SEEMS TO BY A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE.
GAS GAUGE HIGHLY INACCURATE. FUEL WARNING LIGHT GOES ON AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO APPEARS. HAVE TO PULL OVER AS AFRAID TO DRIVE. FINALLY GO TO NEAREST GAS STATION ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT GAS TANK WAS STILL HALF FULL. THIS HAS HAPPENED A NUMBER OF TIMES. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 60,000 MILES.

AFTER SITTING FOR A FEW MINUTES EACH TIME, CAR RESTARTED. HEAVY GAS SMELL IN CAR. FUEL SENDERS HAD BOTH BEEN REPLACED TWICE (SECOND TIME RIGHT AFTER FIRST STALL) BUT FUEL GAGE STILL MALFUNCTIONING. FUEL LEVEL INDICATION UNRELIABLE.

I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THE SAFETY RISK IS A FAILED FUEL SENDER ASSEMBLY, LIKELY PARTS 94460-0W000 AND 94430-0W000. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM IN THE 2009 HYUNDAI SANTA FE MODEL. DEFINITELY A SAFETY HAZARD, AS I CANNOT TELL HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN MY TANK WHILE DRIVING. ANOTHER COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL IS A FAILURE OF THE PURGE VALVE. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED IN MY VEHICLE. THIS DEFECT WILL PROHIBIT THE CAR FROM STARTING IF YOU FILL UP A FULL TANK. SO, THE DRIVER IS FORCED TO FILL UP LESS THAN A FULL TANK SO THAT THEY CAN BE CONFIDENT THAT THE CAR WILL START AFTER PUTTING GAS IN THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A LESS SERIOUS HAZARD THAN THE FUEL GAUGE, BUT WORRISOME NONETHELESS.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.

LIKE THE OTHER POSTED COMPLAINTS, MY 2009 SANTA FE IS HAVING FUEL GAUGE ISSUES. IT NEVER SHOWS THE CORRECT LEVEL. I CHANGED THE FUEL CAP BUT THIS DID NOTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE READOUT COMES BACK: "FUEL LEVEL SENSOR". THIS CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND WILL PREVENT ME FROM PASSING A STATE INSPECTION. I USE MY TRIP ODOMETER TO GAUGE WHERE I AM WITH FUEL TANK LEVEL. I HAVE TO SET MY TRIP TO ZERO AT EVERY FILL-UP. AT 144 MILES I KNOW I'M AT 1/2 A TANK ROUGHLY. THE FUEL GAUGE SLOWLY OSCILLATES BETWEEN THE (ASSUMED) CORRECT VALUE AND ZERO, OFTEN TRIGGERING THE LOW-LEVEL LIGHT. IT MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BE CONFIDENT ABOUT HOW MUCH GAS YOU HAVE IN THE VEHICLE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, IN MOTION, OR WHAT KIND OF DRIVING CONDITION YOU ARE IN, OR WHETHER THE ENGINE IS RUNNING OR NOT. IT SEEMS TO BE A MALFUNCTION IN THE SENSOR OR ELECTRONIC CONTROLS. MY LOCAL DEALER SAID THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE (~$400 TO FIX) BUT HYUNDAI HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL BECAUSE IT'S NOT A "SAFETY ISSUE". THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS YOU ARE NEVER SURE WHETHER IT IS CORRECTLY INDICATING A LOW FUEL LEVEL OR NOT... I WORRY ABOUT MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DRIVING BY HERSELF AT NIGHT WITHOUT KNOWING WHETHER SHE HAS ENOUGH GAS OR NOT TO MAKE IT HOME! IF THIS IS A KNOWN/COMMON ISSUE FOR THIS MAKE/MODEL IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY HYUNDAI.
FUEL INDICATOR GAUGE FLUCTUATES SEVERELY AND DOES NOT SHOW CORRECT LEVEL. SINCE THE LEVEL IS INCORRECT, AND THE WARNING INDICATOR DOES NOT FUNCTION, THIS CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO UNEXPECTEDLY RUN OUT OF FUEL AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSES DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
GAS GAUGE DOES NOT REGISTER AMOUNT OF GAS THAT IS IN THE TANK. FILL UP TANK AND GAUGE REMAINS A EMPTY OR GOES TO FULL AND THE QUICKLY MOVES TO EMPTY. I NOTICED THE FUEL GAUGE WAS ERRATIC AND MOSTLY INCORRECT. AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS IT QUIT WORKING AT ALL. IVE TRIED TO RESET THE TRIP ODOMETER AND KEEP UP WITH THE AMOUNT OF GAS I SHOULD HAVE IN THE TANK. I GAVE OUT OF GAS ON AN INTERSTATE AT 11PM IN SUB FREEZING WEATHER. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE FUEL SENSOR AS THE PROBLEM. I'VE NOTICED SEVERAL HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS HERE. THE ESTIMATED FIX IS $500. ADDITIONALLY THERE IS A HISSING SOUND FROM THE TANK WHEN I STOP TO FILL UP. UPON FILLING THE TANK THE ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK INITIALLY. IT APPREARS TO BE FLOODING THE ENGINE WITH GASOLINE. IF IM PATIENT I WILL EVENTUALLY GET IT CRANKED. WHEN I PULL OFF IT SHUTS OFF. THIS CONTINUES AS I INTENTIONALLY DRIVE AROUND IN THE PARKING LOT DUE TO HAVING THIS HAPPEN ONCE AFTER PULLING OUT ONTO THE HIGHWAY ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. I AM A RETIREE ON FIXED INCOME. THE AUTO WILL NOT PASS NC EMISSIONS INSPECTION DUE THIS MONTH UNTIL THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF.

I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO CARE SHOP TO HAVE THEM USE THEIR COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM TO SEE WHY MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. IT SHOWED THE CODES P0464 AND P0463. THIS IS THE FUEL SENSOR CIRCUIT AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE YOU COULD BE DRIVING AND THE GAGE SUDDENLY READS EMPTY AND YOUR CAR SHUTS DOWN. IF YOUR ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS HAPPENS YOUR DEAD! THIS IS HAPPENING TO SO MANY HYUNDAI SANTA FE'S YET NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP OR THERE WILL BE EXTREME CONSEQUENCES! THIS HAPPENS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION WHEN IT'S STATIONARY AND EVERYTIME YOU START THE CAR! 2009 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED WITH A 3.3 LITER ENGINE WITH APPROXIMATELY 53,500 MI. I WAS SETTING STOPPED ON A CITY STREET WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED REVVING UP AS FAST IT COULD GO (APP 6K TO 7K RPM'S). IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM TAKING OFF AND SLAMMING INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT WAS CREEPING ALONG AND TAPPED THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I GOT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHICH NOT TO MY SURPRISE CANNOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. AFTER I TALKED TO THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP THEY CONTACTED HYUNDAI WHO IS SUPPOSEDLY LOOKING INTO IT. NOT THAT I BLAME HER MY WIFE IS VERY RELUCTANT TO DRIVE IT UNLESS THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN I FILL MY GAS TANK, THE FUEL GAUGE ONLY REGISTERS AT HALF A TANK AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AUTO ZOHN TO HAVE THE ENGINE LIGHT CHECKED, IT DOES, INDEED, COME UP AS A FAULTY FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. STARTING ON JULY 15, 2016, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (MIL) CAME ON, AS WELL THE FUEL GAUGE INCORRECTLY INDICATING THE AMOUNT OF FUEL, IN THE FUEL TANK, AT 107130 MILES. I HAD THE MIL DIAGNOSED AS P0464, FUEL SENSOR DEFECT. MANY OTHER HYUNDAI SANTA FE OWNERS, HAVE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM, REQUESTING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO REPAIR THIS SIGNIFICANT SAFETY PROBLEM, TO HYUNDAI CUSTOMER SERVICE, TO NO AVAIL. THEIR RESPONSE HAS BEEN IT IS NOT THEIR CONCERN AND HAVE NOT OFFERED TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. IF I WERE TO BE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, E.G., 55-75 MPH, AND HAVE THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN, DUE TO LACK OF FUEL, THE POWER STEERING WOULD BE SIGNIFICANTLY IMPAIRED, WITH LOSS OF CONTROL. THIS COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE, WITH SUBSEQUENT PROBABILITY OF AN "ACCIDENT", RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY, RESULTING IN DEATH, TO ME AND MY FAMILY MEMBERS, AS WELL AS OTHERS, AS WELL AS SERIOUS PROPERTY DAMAGE. THE COST FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL LEVEL SENSORS IS APPROXIMATELY $600.00 TO $800.00. THIS FUELS SENSOR PROBLEM AND MIL, OCCURS WHEN STATIONARY, WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH IS TURNED TO START, AS WELL AS WHEN IN MOTION, AT ANY SPEED. I BELIEVE THAT BEFORE SOME DISASTROUS EVENT OCCURS, HYUNDAI SHOULD ASSIST IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THESE DEFECTIVE FUEL SENSORS.

HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE MAY 2016 WITH 105,000 MILES.

IN THE LAST MONTH, WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CAR JUST LOST POWER AND STALLED. WHEN WE RESTARTED THE CAR, THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON BUT WENT OFF THE NEXT DAY. SINCE THEN, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON RANDOMLY AND THE FUEL GAUGE JUMPS ALL OVER THE PLACE. IT WILL INDICATE I HAVE 88 MILES TO EMPTY AND THEN JUMP BACK UP TO 130. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON ONE DAY AND BE OFF THE NEXT.
ONCE THE GAS GAGE REACHES 1/4 FULL, IT GOES TO EMPTY. AFTER FILLING WITH GAS, IT WILL TAKE OVER 1 HOUR TO RECORD A FULL TANK. CANNOT USE THE GAGE AS WE ARE NEVER SURE HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. THE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO APPEARS AND STAYS ON UNTIL THE GAS SENSOR RECORDS FULL.

SEVERAL MODEL YEARS APPEAR TO BE HEAVILY AFFECTED. NOT KNOWING HOW MUCH FUEL THE VEHICLE HAS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, AND DEATHS. HYUNDAI ADVISED IT IS POSSIBLY THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO LOOK AT THE CAR AND ADVISED IT WOULD COST ABOUT $800 TO REPAIR. THE REP IN THE PARTS DEPARTMENT STATED THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL CALLS REGARDING REPLACING THE PART. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SERIOUS ISSUE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD OR HIGHWAY. THERE SEEMS TO BE SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.

AN INTERNET SEARCH QUICKLY REVEALED THAT MANY OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE HYUNDAI WILL INITIATE A SAFETY RECALL TOO CORRECT THE ISSUE.

AFTER REPAIRS WE FILLED THE TANK WITH FUEL. ALTHOUGH TANK WAS FULL IT ONLY REGISTERED 3/4 FULL WITH A RANGE OF 254 MILES. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, THE RANGE WAS 320 - 324 MILES. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP 11 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 1/2 YEARS TRYING TO FIX AN ISSUE WHERE I RANDOMLY CANNOT PUT FUEL IN THE CAR. THE NOZZLES CLICK OFF AS IF THE TANK IS FULL, USUALLY AFTER PUMPING A FEW GALLONS. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY HAVE REPLACED EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF THE FUEL SYSTEM, BUT IT CONTINUES TO HAVE ISSUES AND THEY'RE NOT SURE WHY. SOMETIMES IT WORKS FINE; SOMETIMES PUMPING GAS SLOWLY HELPS AND I'M ABLE TO FILL UP; SOMETIMES NOTHING I DO WORKS AND I HAVE TO DRIVE OFF AND TRY AGAIN ANOTHER DAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS ONLY COME ON ONCE, WITH THE FIRST REPAIR ATTEMPT IN 2013. SINCE THEN, THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS, JUST THE INABILITY TO PUMP GAS. I'VE TRACKED MILEAGE TO MAKE SURE IT'S NOT JUST AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWING AS BEING EMPTIER THAN IT REALLY IS. UNLESS THIS SUV IS GETTING 60+ MPG, IT'S NOT THE GAUGE. I GENERALLY START ATTEMPTING TO FILL UP WHEN I GET DOWN TO HALF A TANK OF GAS, BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I'LL BE ABLE TO PUT INTO THE VEHICLE AT A TIME.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND FUEL GAUGE WENT DOWN TO EMPTY, EVEN THOUGH I HAD A FULL TANK. TOOK TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE CHECK ENGINE CODE INDICATED "P0464 - FUEL LEVEL SENSOR 'A' CKT INTERMITTENT" PROBLEM. HE INFORMED ME OF HIS PRICE, BUT RECOMMENDED I GO TO A HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FIRST TO SEE IF COVERED UNDER THE 100K POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER ON 11/10/14 AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED OR CONSIDERED A RECALL, AND IT WOULD COST OVER $800 TO REPAIR. MY MECHANIC SUGGESTED I USE A BOTTLE OR TWO OF CHEVRON TECHRON FUEL ADDITIVE WITH MY NEXT FILL UP BECAUSE IT MAY CLEAN THE SENDING UNIT, AS GASOLINE TENDS TO COAT THE GRID THAT CONTACTS PASS OVER CAUSING THE GAGE FAILURE. A 20 OZ AND 12 OZ BOTTLE WERE ADDED AND SHORTLY AFTER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE FUEL GAGE BEGAN TO REGISTER PROPERLY AGAIN. THIS LASTED ABOUT 2 MONTHS, BUT THEN THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN IN JANUARY AND GAGE WENT DOWN WHEN I STARTED UP THE CAR ONE MORNING. I TRIED THE SAME THING AGAIN WITH THE TECHRON, AND IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 1 MONTH. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL MORE TIMES LATELY BUT THE GAGE PROBLEM IS INCONSISTENT. SOMETIMES EVERYTHING SEEMS GOOD THEN IF I HAPPEN TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, EVERYTHING GOES HAYWIRE AGAIN. I DON'T WANT TO KEEP PAYING FOR BOTTLES OF TECHRON ON EVERY OTHER FILL-UP OR USE PREMIUM GAS (WHICH DIDN'T WORK BTW), AND I ALSO THINK THIS PROBLEM IS COMMON ENOUGH ON 2007-2009 SANTA FE'S ON INTERNET POSTINGS THAT ITS TIME FOR HYUNDAI TO STEP UP TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS A RECALL. I WENT BACK TO THE GAS STATION AND ASK THE ATTENDANT THAT THERE IS A MISTAKE, MY TANK IS NOT FULL IT IS EMPTY. BUT I WAS WRONG, BECAUSE HE TOLD ME THERE IS NO WAY THE PUMP MACHINE WILL LIE AND HE FILLS 100S OF VEHICLE PER DAY FROM EACH OF HIS MACHINE. JUST TO DOUBLE CHECK, THE NEXT FILLING I USED A DIFFERENT GAS STATION AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. NOW THIS HAS BECOME ROUTINE AND SINCE MY LAST TWO VISIT AT PUMP, EVEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS COMING ON NOW. I HAVE TO WAIT FEW DAYS AND MILEAGE TO PUT ON THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WILL GO OFF BUT THE FUEL GAUGE WILL STILL SHOW LESS THAN HALF THE TANK. AT THIS MOMENT, I KNOW MY CAR AND CAN PREDICT WITH SOME DEGREE OF CERTAINTY ABOUT THE MILEAGE MY CAR WILL PROVIDE BUT AS THE CAR AGES AND OTHER THINGS IN THE ENGINE AGES, IT WILL BECOME MORE DIFFICULT TO PREDICT THE GAS LEVEL. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, USING CRUISE CONTROL, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I STEPPED ON THE GAS AND IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I COASTED TO A STOP AND PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING, TRANSMISSION WAS IN GEAR, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. I TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND LET IT SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES. I RESTARTED IT, HAD POWER, EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL, EXCEPT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED LIT. I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES TO MY DESTINATION. THE CAR SAT FOR SIX HOURS AND I WAS THEN ABLE TO DRIVE THE 65 MILES HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. REPAIR RESULTS: MY HYUNDAI DEALER INDICATED THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY A 'THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR'. THEY REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC COMPONENT AND RESET THE ERROR CODES IN THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER. *TR

DEALER SAID IT WAS A FAULTY FUEL SENSOR AND IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. CAR STALLED ON INTERSTATE WHILE GOING 70MPH 3/2013 WITH 1/3 TANK OF GAS SHOWING. UPON ADDING GAS CAR RAN AGAIN. WAITED A FEW MONTHS UNTIL CAR STALLED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN WITH "PLENTY OF GAS." TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP 7/2013 AND THEY SAID IT WAS A FLUKE AND THE FUEL SENSOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN, 12/2013 CAR STALLED ON HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT 65 WHILE GAUGE INDICATED 1/3 TANK OF GAS. FILLED WITH GAS AND CAR RAN. TOOK IT TO DEALER 12/2013 AND THEY SAID IT WAS JUST A FLUKE (SEEMS TO BE PARTY LINE) BUT THIS TIME THEY SAID THE FLOAT IN THE FUEL TANK WAS GETTING HUNG UP ON SOMETHING SO WAS GIVING A FALSE READING. DEALER SAID HOSE THAT GOT CAUGHT ON FLOAT HAD BEEN RECONNECTED AND SHOULD NOT CAUSE ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. DRIVING AROUND TOWN TWO DAYS AGO WITH 1/4 TANK OF GAS CAR STALLED AGAIN. HAVE ADDED GAS BUT IT IS SPUTTERING. ASSUME IT WILL BE ANOTHER FLUKE! *TR
FUEL SENSOR FAILED AND REGISTERED EMPTY TANK WITH LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ACTIVATED. SINCE THEN THE FUEL GAUGE HAS NOT OPERATED CORRECTLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE REMAINS LIT. FAULT HAS BEEN TRACED TO FUEL TANK SENSOR WHICH REQUIRES REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT. *TR
WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AROUND TOPEKA KANSAS WHEN THE VEHICLE LURCHED, THEN THE ESC, ENGINE AND CHASSIS LIGHTS FLASHED. IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS THE CAR LOST ALL PROPULSION. FORTUNATELY I WAS BY AN OFF-RAMP, BUT COULD OF GOTTEN IN AN ACCIDENT WHICH SUCH A SUDDEN DECELERATION. MANAGED TO GET TO AN AUTOZONE STORE TO CHECK THE FAULT. THE FAULT CAME UP AS THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS). MANAGED TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN TOPEKA. THEY FIXED IN WITHIN 10 MINUTES, BUT AFTER COMPLETING MY TRIP BACK TO COLORADO NOTICED THE CAR IS LURCHING AGAIN IN LOWER SPEED, IN-TOWN TRAFFIC...VERY DANGEROUS!!! WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP IN COLORADO ON MONDAY MORNING!! HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM TWO YEARS AGO, TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM WITH IT. GUESS THEY WON'T BE SATISFIED UNTIL THE WARRANTY PERIOD ENDS AND SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
INCIDENT 1: (10-20-2010) DRIVER SIDE HEAD LIGHT WAS FOGGING UP CONSTANTLY. DEALER REPLACED THE HEAD LIGHT UNDER WARRANTY. INCIDENT 2: (02-22-2011) UPON FILL-UP OF THE GAS TANK, JUST BEFORE IT WAS TOPPED OFF, THERE WAS A SERIES OF CLUNKING NOISES. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED. INCIDENT 3: (05-01-2011 APPROX.) UPON REMOVAL OF THE CABIN AIR FILTER COVER, THE LITTLE PLASTIC PARTS THAT ARE SQUEEZED TO REMOVE THE COVER BROKE, WHICH WOULDN'T ALLOW THE COVER TO GO BACK ON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PART AND I HAVE NOT YET REPLACED THE FILTER YET. INCIDENT 4: (11-12-2011) DRIVING 60 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY, I HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. AS I WAS PULLING OVER TO CHECK OUT THE SITUATION, THE CAR LOST POWER STEERING AND AIR CONDITIONING! MY SERPENTINE BELT BROKE! AFTER IT WAS TOWED, THE DEALER REPLACED IT, ALONG WITH BELT TENSIONER AND IDLER PULLEY! INCIDENT 5: (07-30-2012) I WAS COMING UP TO A STOP LIGHT AND UPON DECELERATION, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ESC OFF LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE RPM GAGE SHOWED 1100 RPM AND IT FELT LIKE THE VEHICLE WANTED TO MOVE AS IF I WAS PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN I DID TRY TO ACCELERATE, THERE WAS NO POWER TO ACCELERATE ( THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, ETC, BUT WHEN I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, I COULD ONLY MOVE A FEW MILES PER HOUR.) I PULLED OVER AND SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. I STARTED IT BACK UP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON, AND I GAINED ACCELERATION POWER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DETERMINED I HAD A FAULTY THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AS WELL AS BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AND BOTH WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER. [CURRENT MILEAGE ON VEHICLE AFTER ALL INCIDENTS: 48,897]
