2020 Hyundai Palisade Engine Problems

I am reporting a safety concern involving repeated engine stalling while driving my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. The vehicle has stalled a total of seven times during normal operation. Most of the incidents occurred while slowing down or stopped at intersections and traffic lights.

Our motor has been consuming a lot of oil, we were told that Hyundai knows about the issue and that there is nothing they can do. We got sold a poor excuse of a warranty in which they never told us that the warranty would not cover oil consumption, but we have the “best” warranty they had. Our car has died GOING DOWN THE ROAD WITH MY 4 kids and WIFE!

My car has been diagnosed, by a dealership, with excessive oil consumption due to a faulty piston ring which caused there to be no compression in cylinder 1. Initially my car had smoke coming from the tailpipe, then it started to shake while idling and the check engine light came on (delearship cleared it), then it overheated on me while going down the road with no warning whatsoever.

Hello, I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade that was bought last year in 2024. It’s had no issues with the engine up until approximately the last 2 weeks with oil consumption and noises from the engine rattling. I contacted the dealership to get it checked out and on the way there it caught fire.

Acceleration is causing misfires or the engine to feel like it “skips” Also grumbles or bubbles when I shut down.

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade has been a lemon from the beginning with numerous issues including a whistling sound when driving, a recalled trailer hitch known to cause fires, paint issues, rim paint issues etc… But the worst offender is the oil consumption issues. A few months ago I thought something was wrong with my transmission so I took my car to the dealership.

Current mileage is 51,130. When slowing down to come to a stop;the engine shakes, vehicle stalls out, cuts off, and goes into park. No service or warnings lights where on the dash.

Dear NHTSA, I'm reporting a serious safety issue with my 2020 Hyundai Palisade (3.8L V6) involving excessive oil consumption without low-oil warning lights.

Engine is burning/consuming EXCESSIVE oil before required oil change. The oil levels are low enough that the vehicle will shutter or stall when coming to a stop. There are NO INDICATOR lights to advise of low oil, or NO oil!!

This vehicle has excessive oil consumption, and the low oil light does not light up to tell you that you are low on oil. I only noticed that I was low on oil because the engine starts knocking and started to stall. I had the oil changed according to all service intervals and at one point the dealership told me my car had no oil left in it.

The engine of my 2020 Palisade has burned about 1.5 quarts of engine oil every 1k miles. I found this when checked the dipstick after 3k miles and barely see any oil on the dipstick. Even with the oil level far below the LOW level, the car doesn't have any light to warn me about it is being low on oil.

The car suddenly stalls during driving. It has been root-caused to engine oil consumption. I used my car for only 3K miles after my previous service (normal recommended oil change is 7.5K miles) before I saw the same stall issues and all kind of weird check lights going off.

The engine totally stop in the middle of the road stoping an entire lane. My wife and myself were on a little road trip and the vehicle lost power while on the freeway. It wouldn't go over 60 MPH which was concerning as we were in the middle of freeway traffic. I managed to get to an exit and shut off the vehicle.

Follow-Up Complaint – Engine Failure on 2020 Hyundai Palisade (VIN: [XXX] ) I am following up on a previous complaint regarding a complete engine failure in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade. I purchased the vehicle from CarMax in 2023 and was never made aware of any known engine issues. I also signed the required Lemon Law disclosure form at purchase, which did not indicate any concerns with the engine.

Experienced complete engine failure. Car was at a Certified Hyundai dealership 2 weeks prior for new plugs and new coil pack. Multiple point inspection with no noted issues.

The vehicle has an engine flaw, which caused the vehicle engine to stop running while I was driving down a busy highway to take my children to their activities. The traffic behind me nearly slammed into the back of my Hyundai Palisade because the engine cut off without warning. There was no indication of engine trouble, no dashboard lights, no warnings at all.

I purchased a used 2020 Hyundai Palisade in June 2024. The vehicle has a defective engine caused by excessive oil consumption. I took the vehicle to the dealer service department and they confirmed the issue.

My 2020 Palisade has about 98,000 miles. A few months ago I brought it to the dealership because I thought my transmission was faulty. It turns out my car had burned up all but 1 qt of oil and it was affecting my engine, eventhough I changed my oil at 7,000 miles per the Hyundai manual (7500-10,000).

My 2020 Hyundai Palisade was serviced 10/23/23 with Daytona Hyundai (mileage around 31000). It has been serviced regularly--sometimes before schedule since it is hard to get the car into the dealership for servicing because they are always booked out months in advance.

Engine oil filter housing started leaking copious amounts of oil in cold weather. Dealership advised that it is a known issue but not covered by warranty. I had to source the part myself and pay an independent mechanic to replace the housing.

The engine is burning oil. I've had it inspected by Huyndai however they stated it would be 18+ months before getting it fixed. At this point it's burning 1qt oil every 3 weeks.

Problems started about 1.5yrs ago - car would make horrible noises from the engine, knocking sounds, lost some electric/AV systems. Brought to local dealership, had a bunch of codes; dealer said issue with t-stat sensor. No issues for another 3k miles, knocking sounds again.

In June we noticed the car would stutter at certain RPMs or certain speeds. We took the car in and it was diagnosed to "need oil". The car continued to have this issue upon return and we took the car back to the shop where it was diagnosed to be an engine issue.

Dealership says that the car was 5qts of oil. Scarring on piston #6. Check engine light came on and indicated Transmission issue

I bought the car in jan 2020, and found that it was leaking oil on june 2020, after 4500 miles. The oil leak looks to be significant as I had found drops and puddles on my garage floor. The oil leak seems to be coming from the transmission/engine connection area, or possibly the upper oil pan.

The engine burns 1 quart per 1000 miles of driving

engine is consuming alot of oil I have to put a quart every week and it has a smell of burning near the engine and white smoke at the back tail pipe.

Engine started burning oil at 65000 miles. It has now run almost completely out of oil twice at about 4200 miles since last oil change, not even close to reaching the manufacturer recommended interval of 7500 miles between oil changes. On top of the engine consuming oil at an alarming rate, there are no warning indicator lights that turn on to let you know your oil level is critically low.

Transmission issues. Many people are experiencing this and have had to replace transmissions on these!!!

Car consumes oil, no oil light comes on, no oil on the driveway.

My 2020 Palisade engine burns oil at an alarming rate. I have to add about 4 quarts of oil every couple of thousand miles. This is a known issue with Hyundai engines.

The engine started running rough and when I checked the oil it was 4 quarts low. Despite the oil being more than half empty, the oil light on the dash never came on. This is dangerous and will end up hurting future owners or those who don’t get enough mileage on the vehicle within their warranty timeframe.

The car is approximately 3.5 years old (2020) and the engine failed. The symptoms of the engine failure are the exact failures of all of the other Hyundai engines that failed over the last 10 years which were recalled. There needs to be further investigation in all of the engines Hyundai is putting out to protect people.
