NHTSA: #23V651000 I need to know when I can get this major problem fix. This is a safety issue that needs attention. The vehicles anti-lock brake system module could leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short. An electrical short could result in significant overcurrent in the ABS module, increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving or parked. [XXX] I was contacted took my vehicle in and was told a fuse would be ordered and I would be called back in to to get this safety issue fixed. I just spoke with the Service Manager in Terrell and he said the remedy was taken away on [XXX], one day after I was a the dealership and ALL ordered were canceled. It’s been happening recently everyday when going to start the car it doesn’t start and I have to pop the hood, open the fusebox cover and lift the wire attached to the fusebox and then when starting the car it starts. It’s been happening every other day and sometimes a week after.
I complied with Hyundai's voluntary recall of my 2012 Elantra, supposedly designed to deter theft with some sort of software update. Four weeks after this, four teenager rolled up to my house in a stolen Hyundai Sonata. One of them jumped out of the car, smashed my car's back window, and stole my car. This whole process took place in broad daylight, in front of multiple witnesses, over approximately 30 seconds. I contend that Hyundai's "voluntary recall" was 1) fraudulent, in that it does not do anything to fix the actual problem; 2) dangerous, in that it led owners to believe their car was safe when it fact it was not; and 3) a waste of taxpayers' time, as it caused me to take several hours off of work. Hyundai should be compelled to 1) ACTUALLY fix these vehicles; 2) compensation any Hyundai owners whose vehicles were stolen. While I have insurance protection on this vehicle, I will almost certainly need to pay more money than that to replace this car with one of comparable utility to me.
Please find below a description of the malfunction in my Hyundai Elantra, as this is the reason I'm requesting inclusion in a recall. Since the week of Thanksgiving 2022, I've had several instances of my vehicle stalling without warning before engaging the transmission; for example, my car once stopped moving completely on the freeway while entering the onramp at 55 mph. Since then, the problem has only gotten worse, stalling up to seven or nine times per week. Because of the severity of this issue, I’ve had it inspected multiple times and would gladly submit it to another one if requested. Obviously, a defect of this magnitude with no obvious cause not only puts me at risk as the driver, as I can’t prepare for a sudden stop, but all road travelers around me are also subject to this issue. As you know, a sudden halt could lead to collusion involving numerous people. To date, an independent service provider has not been able to identify the issue or recreate the problem, as it occurs randomly with no warning lights or signals to prepare me for what’s about to happen. I received notice of Safety Recall Number 193 from Hyundai Motor America. I contacted the service department at 2 local dealerships - Hyundai Fairfax and Hyundai Springfield - about a month ago to try to schedule this preventive maintenance but neither location replied to my inquiry. I don't know if recalls are optional for dealerships but I don't know what else to do. I was informed in an online chat that I could submit this dealership complaint through your website. I hope you can advise on my options/next steps. Thank you.
My motor has a knocking noise, it has not been inspected by anyone, oil has been changed, engine light is on, also my tail lights an brake lights go out an I have changed them 3 different time in the last 2 months, it could cause a accident, I have called dealership an I have no recalls. But when I look it up I see other people who own same car has the same issues.
I honestly believe I was ripped off for this vehicle I’ve been having to replace one thing after another since I’d gotten it. The brake system on the front passenger side seems to keep grabbing when I’m not even touching the brake. every time I change the brakes only the front passenger side gets worn down way more then the others. I was thinking it was brake drag, but I litteraly greased my brakes and guide pens then it started making the squeeking noise again when I wasn’t touching the brake. It also compromises my engines functions. my engine lags out and I have a feeling it’s putting more torque into the engine and transmission than it was supposed to, and now is causing problems in them. It causes safety issues because the brakes are one of the most important systems on a vehicle it can cause me a bad accident if the caliper becomes to worn from heat damage, because it excessively is putting pressure on it. I haven’t taken it to the dealership to recreate the issue yet, but I did mention it in the very beginning because I had suspicions of my vehicle having problems, but they said they couldn’t find anything when they ran the vin. They didn’t actually test my vehicle which was what I needed. My check engine light has been on.

AFTER IT RAINS, ( IN MOTION OR STANDING STILL ) WATER COMES THROUGH THE LIGHT ABOVE SUN VISOR, SOAKS THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR FRONT AND BACK, AND GOES INTO DASH THIS IS CAUSING CORROSION TO ALL ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE DASH COULD CAUSE FAILURE TO DEVICES AND A FIRE HAZARD. THE TOUCHSCREEN WENT BLACK, SO I PULLED THE FUSE ONLY TO NOTICE THE FUSES HAD CORROSION. MY FEET GET SOAKED MAKING THE PEDALS SLIPPERY. I DID RESEARCH ONLINE ONLY TO REALIZE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE WATER ON THE FLOOR HAS SOAKED THROUGH THE CARPET AND PAD TO ABOUT 1/2" OF WATER AT THE HIGHEST POINT. THIS COULD CAUSE MOLD AND MILDEW TO BE CIRCULATED THROUGH THE CAR. THE CAR HAS GOTTEN CONDENSATION ON THE WINDSHIELD AFTER IT RAINS AND THE SUN COMES OUT. THE MOISTURE INSIDE THE VEHICLE IS STARTING TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO ALL ELECTRONICS.
A FEW WEEKS AGO, I WAS DRIVING MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA (114,000 MILES ON IT) AND IT STARTED TO SPUTTER AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE ABOVE 20 MPH AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THERE HAD BEEN A SIMILAR INTERMITTENT PROBELM PRIOR TO THIS. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY DEALER AND ENDED UP WITH A REPLACED COIL PACK ON ONE CYLINDER. ON 11/4/20, I WAS RUN OFF THE INTERSTATE BY A SEMI BECAUSE AS I ENTERED THE HIGHWAY, I COULD NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 20, AND THEN 40 MPH AND THE TACOMETER REGISERED 0. I TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER WHERE THEY SAID THAT THE "TECH RESET ADAPT.VALUES" ("VALVES" IS WHAT THEY TOLD ME VERBALLY). WELL I LEFT WITH THE CAR AFTER THE SUPPOSED "FIX" AND 1/2 MILE FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE SAME DE-ACLLERATION OCCURED, AND THIS TIME WHEN I WENT BACK TO DEALERSHIP THE MANAGER HAD THE TECH RUN THE DIAGNOSTICS ON ORIGINAL PROBLEM ON HIS IPAD AND TECH SAID THE COIL PACK WAS FINE. THE MANAGER THEN HAD THE TECH RUN ALL SYSTEM COMPUTER CHECKS AND THE SECOND TIME AROUND, AN ERROR POINTED TO THE CRANKSHAFT SO THEY RAN ALL THE COMPUTER UPDATES, WHICH TOOK A GOOD 20 MINUTES, AND SAID THAT LIKELY FIXED THE ISSUE. I THOUGHT THE ISSUE WAS FIXED BUT TODAY, TWO DAYS LATER, I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DROVE IT A FEW MILES AND I NOTICED AGAIN THAT THE TACOMETER WAS NOT WORKING. THIS IS THE 4TH TIME I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. I ASKED THEM WHY THEY DIDN'T RUN UPDATES WHEN THE CAR IS IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND HE SAID THEY ONLY DO SO WHEN A PROBLEM IS NOTED. THE INITIAL ISSUE ALMOST GOT ME KILLED ON THE HIGHWAY. AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP, OTHER DRIVERS OF HYUNDAI VEHICLES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED IF THIS SAFETY ISSUE ISN'T RESOLVED. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED AS OF TODAY, 11/6/2020 REGARDLESS OF WHAT PRIOR SVC REPORTS UPLOAD STATES.
FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS I HAVE HAD A REOCCURRING ISSUE WITH MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. ABOUT 1-3 TIMES A WEEK, MY CAR WILL NOT START. ALL LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC. WORK FINE WHEN KEY IS TURNED TO ON/START POSITION BUT CAR WILL NOT START. IT MAKES ONE CLICK SOUND AND THEN NOTHING. GENERALLY, IF I KEEP TRYING IT WILL EVENTUALLY START. SOMETIMES IT TAKES 10 MINUTES AND SOMETIMES IT TAKES A FEW HOURS. ALONG WITH THIS, ABOUT ONCE A WEEK MY CAR WILL SHIFT GEARS HARD. IT IS AN AUTOMATIC AND OTHERWISE SHIFTS FINE. I HAVE HAD ROUTINE MAINTENANCE COMPLETED ON TIME SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2016. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR TO MY MECHANIC SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS AND HE CANNOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR DOES NOT DO THIS REGULARLY. I READ ONLINE THAT IT COULD BE THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH (RANGE INHIBITOR) SO I REPLACED THAT. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. I CONTACTED THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED MY CAR AND THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS.
CAR WAS PARKED AND COMPLETELY OFF. I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND TURNED IT PARTWAY. ALL ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS AND HEADLIGHTS CAME ON. I TURNED THE KEY ALL THE WAY AND IT WOULD NOT START. THERE WAS A LOUD RYTHMIC CLICKING AND EACH TIME IT CLICKED ALL THE ELECTRONICS FLICKERED. JUMPING THE BATTERY DID NOT WORK.
THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. MY TIRE WAS FLAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A DESERT AND I TURNED THE CAR OFF TO CHANGE MY TIRE. I TRIED TO START MY VEHICLE AND ALL ACCESSORIES TURN ON AND THE CAR UNLOCKS WITH THE ELECTRIC KEY FOB BUT THE CAR DOESN'T START. INHIBITOR SWITCH IS BAD IS FAULTY. IT STARTS SOMETIMES AND DOESN'T START AT SOMETIMES. MANY PEOPLE HAVE BECOME STRANDED DUE TO THIS DEFECT AND HAVE REPORTED IT ON CAR GURU AND MANY OTHER HYUNDAI FORUMS. EVERYONE BELIEVES THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS FAULTY ISSUE.
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING FAILURES FROM MY SPEED CONTROL. IT MOVES SLOW ON IT OWN REGARDLESS OF HOW HIGH THE METER SAYS. WHEN BRAKING THE CAR SHAKES AND THEN ON ITS OWN IT GOES OFF AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD COMES ON. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 3 TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON RECENTLY AND NOW MY CAR VIBRATES/ SHAKES WHEN IDLE OR WHEN IT STARTS.

THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE ANY INJURIES OR SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER DEEMED THE VEHICLE WAS LOSS. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF UNKNOWN. INVALID VIN.
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO THE CAR ALARM WENT OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON (THE CAR WAS SITTING IN OUR GARAGE AND NO ONE WAS ATTEMPTING TO STEAL IT). WHEN IT WENT OFF IT WAS VERY EARLY IN THE MORNING...LIKE 2 OR 3 AM. WE TRIED EVERYTHING WE KNEW TO TRY TO SHUT IT UP...FINALLY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL HYUNDAI DEALER WHERE WE WERE LATER TOLD THAT ONE OF THE MANY SENSORS HAD GONE BAD AND THEY WOULD ORDER A REPLACEMENT PART. THAT SEEMED TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM INITIALLY...BUT A FEW MONTHS LATER THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN AT 2 OR 3 AM FOR NO APPARENT REASON. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THEY HAD NO AVAILABLE APPOINTMENTS FOR TWO WEEKS. WE WAITED THE TWO WEEKS WHILE THE CAR SAT UNUSED AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE BATTERY AND THEN BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THIS TIME THEY HAD THE CAR FOR MOST OF A WEEK SAYING THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ALARM DISCHARGING. WE FINALLY JUST PICKED UP THE DEFECTIVE CAR...AND THAT VERY SAME DAY...AGAIN AT 2 AM, THE ALARM WENT OFF AGAIN. MY HUSBAND TRIED EVERYTHING HE WAS TOLD TO TRY TO SHUT IT UP...NOTHING WORKED. SO, HE WENT TO AGAIN DISCONNECT THE BATTERY...BUT THE DEALER HAD TIGHTENED THE CABLES TO THE BATTERY TOO TIGHTLY. AFTER SPENDING AN HOUR AND HALF A CAN OF WD40 WE WERE ABLE TO DISCONNECT ONLY THE POSITIVE CABLE TO THE BATTERY...AND THERE IT HAS SAT FOR NEARLY A MONTH...UNUSED AND DISCONNECTED. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI DIRECTLY AND THEY SEEM UNABLE MUCH ADVICE OTHER THAN 'TAKE IT TO ANOTHER DEALER OR BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND ASK THEM TO TRY AGAIN.' WE WOULD LIKE TO JUST GET RID OF THIS CAR BUT COULD NOT SELL IT IN GOOD FAITH WITH THIS CURRENT PROBLEM...SO IT IS BOTH UNUSABLE AND NOT WORTH MUCH AS A TRADE IN.

THE DRIVER PARKED ALONG THE SIDE OF THE ROAD UNTIL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE ARRIVED AND JUMPED STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE DRIVER HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED. THE DRIVER CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO PRIORITY HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 1499 S MILITARY HWY, CHESAPEAKE, VA 23320, (757) 420-5450 HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE DRIVER WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE VIN WAS ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V393000 (EQUIPMENT). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THE DASH CONSOLE CONTINUES TO GO GO OUT TO THE POINT THE ODOMETER, SPEED , MILEAGE AND OTHER INSTRUMENT PANEL INFORMATION IS NOT VISIBLE. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THEY REPLACED THE DASH CONSOLE AND 2 YRS LATER IS NEEDING REPLACEMENT AGAIN.
DASH DISPLAY OF ODOMETER/MPG/ET CETERA NO LONGER IS READABLE DUE TO DIM OR MISSING DIGITS. THIS WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL SEVERAL YEARS AGO BUT HAS RECURRED. I NO LONGER CAN SEE NECESSARY INFORMATION ABOUT THE CAR'S EQUIPMENT OR DRIVABILITY STATUS. THIS OCCURS AT ALL TIMES, DRIVING OR STATIONARY.

THE FAILURE PERSISTED FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON DID MY RESEARCH AND IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL
TAKATA RECALL. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER IN 2016 AROUND THE TIME A RECAL FOR IT WENT OUT AND I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL TODAY. MY CAR SOMETIMES TAKES TWO TIMES TO ACTUALLY START. I TURN KEY AND HAVE TO EITHER HOLD IT OR STOP AND DO IT AGAIN. MY CAR HYDROPLANES EXTREMELY EASILY COMPARED TO OTHER VEHICLES. NORMALLY IT IS ONLY A SECOND BESIDES THE TIME I REAR ENDED SOMEONE WITH NO BAD WEATHER THEN ANOTHER WHILE IT WAS RAINING AND I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL AND THANK GOD NO ONE WAS AROUND ME AND I AM USED TO THE VEHICLE SO I COULD GAIN CONTROL AGAIN TRULY A MIRACLE. OTHER SMALLER ISSUES I IGNORE.
INTERMITTENTLY ENGINE WON'T TURN OVER. IT WILL SOMETIMES GO A WEEK OR SO TURNING OVER NORMALLY, & THEN WITHOUT WARNING, IT WON'T START FOR 10-60 MIN OR LONGER ACCORDING TO 1000S OF DRIVERS. LAST NIGHT, I WAS STRANDED FOR 50 MIN IN A PARKING LOT AT NIGHT TRYING TO GET MY CAR TO TURN OVER. DASH LIGHTS UP, FUEL PUMP GOES ON, BUT THERE IS NO CRANK. BUT THERE ARE 1000S OF OTHER COMPLAINTS IN THAT SEARCH. SOME FORUMS SAY IT'S A INHIBITOR SWITCH. THE DEALERSHIP DENYIES SUCH REPORTS ON HYUNDAI'S MANUFACTURER, ALTHOUGH MANY DRIVERS SAY ON THESE FORUMS THAT THEY HAD TO HAVE THEIR ELANTRAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE THEY WERE TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM. HELPPPP ME !!! IT RANDOMLY TURNED OVER 50 MINUTES LATER. THAT CANNOT HAPPEN! I COULD BE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. ANY OF THESE DRIVERS COULD BE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. LOOK AT THE COMMENTS ON ANY YOUTUBE VIDEO AFTER TYPING IN ELANTRA WON'T START. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE STRANDED FROM THIS ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION HYUNDAI REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. BUT THIS KEPT HAPPENING WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE THE CAR ON HIGHWAYS AND I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS SENSOR PROBLEMS. ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN I USE AIR CONDITIONING, OR USE THE HEAD LIGHTS. CAR WILL RANDOMLY NOT TURN ON ALTHOUGH BATTERY IS NEW AND MAKES A HUMMING NOISE AS I TURN THE KEY.
THE CLOCK SPRING HAS WORN AFTER ROUGHLY 55K MILES AND JUST BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. DEALER REPLACEMENT IS $300 AND AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY WITHOUT REPAIR. THIS BEGAN AFTER GOING OVER ROUGH BRICK PAVERS AND THE LIGHT IS INTERMITTENTLY ON, PROBABLY ABOUT 80-90% OF THE TIME. AS I UNDERSTAND IT THE VERACRUZ AND SANTA FE MODELS HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE A FEW YEAR PRIOR (11-01-052) AND ONLINE SEARCHES SHOW THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH (AT LEAST) EARLY PRODUCTION ELANTAS. WHILE OWNER DIY REPLACEMENT IS POSSIBLE, IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED DUE TO SRS SYSTEM IMPORTANCE AS WELL AS LACK OF ABILITY TO RECALIBRATE SOFTWARE.

OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS, THE HORN HAS STOPPED WORKING (ANOTHER POTENTIALLY LARGE SAFETY ISSUE), AND THE BUTTONS THAT CONTROL THE UPWARD VOLUME AND RADIO STATION BROWSING HAVE BEEN WAVERING BETWEEN WORKING SOMETIMES AND NOT WORKING AT ALL. I DID SOME RESEARCH ABOUT THE AIRBAG AND HORN PROBLEMS, AND THERE WERE MANY STORIES FROM OTHER OWNERS OF HYUNDAI ELANTRAS OF VARIOUS YEARS WITH THE SAME ISSUES. IN ADDITION, THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH DEALERS SOUNDED VERY MUCH LIKE MINE IN THAT THEY (THE DEALER(S)) WANT TO CHARGE A SUM OF MONEY TO FIRST INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND THEN CHARGE FOR THE REPAIR(S). OVER TIME, FUNCTIONALITY OF ALL STEERING WHEEL MOUNTED CONTROLS FOR CRUISE CONTROL, TRIP COMPUTER, BLUETOOTH, AUDIO SYSTEM, AND HORN WERE LOST. I DISASSEMBLED THE STEERING COLUMN TO ACCESS AND REMOVE THE AIR BAG CLOCKSPRING. I TESTED THE CONNECTIONS FOR CONTINUITY WITH A HANDHELD METER AND FOUND NONE ON ANY TERMINAL. THE CLOCK SPRING FAILED.

I CALLED HYUNDAI'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WHEN THEY ARRIVED HE TOLD ME TO TRY TO START IT UP. THE CAR THEN CAME ON WHICH WAS APPROX. A 45 MINUTE WAIT. IN OCTOBER 2015- EAGAN, MN, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, I FELT DIZZY, NAUSEOUS AND HAD A PANIC ATTACK. I TRIED PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP DESPITE STEPPING ON BREAKS, THE CAR KEPT PULLING TOWARD THE SIDE OF THE GRASS THAT WAS SURROUNDED WITH GRAVEL. I ENDED UP HITTING AND STOPPING AT A GUARDRAIL. THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL WAS BLOWN AND ALONG THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER DOOR WAS SCRATCHED, THERE WAS ALSO SOME FRONT END DAMAGE WHICH GOT REPAIRED. IN APPROX. MARCH 2015- WEST SAINT PAUL, I JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR LOST POWER. I STARTED IT UP, PRESSED ON THE GAS AND ENDED UP REAR ENDED THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME. IN 2014, MAPLEWOOD, MN,I WAS AT A RESTAURANT'S DRIVE-THRU AND MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AND STEERING FOR ABOUT 5-10 MINUTES. I CALLED HYUNDAI'S ROADSIDE'S ASSISTANCE TO REPORT THE INCIDENT. IN 2014, EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR COMPLETELY LOST POWER AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I CALLED HYUNDAI'S ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TO REPORT THE INCIDENCE. I TOOK IT TO HYUNDAI WHO COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM BUT CHARGED ME $250 TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY.

IT HAS BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALER TWICE, BUT SINCE IT STARTS WHEN IT IS THERE, THEY SAY THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND THEREFORE CAN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I WOULD SAY IN THE YEAR AND A HALF THAT I HAVE HAD THE CAR IT HAS STRANDED ME 4 TIMES AND NOT ON THE FIRST TURN OVER ANOTHER 15. I USUALLY TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND TRY AGAIN. AFTER A COUPLE TRIES IT USUALLY STARTS.

HAVE NOT SEEN THE EXPERIENCE OF THE VEHILCE STALLING ON ME DURING THE HIGHWAY BUT BECAUSE OF THE DAILY TRAFFIC I TAKE TO COMMUTE HOME-WORK I JUST HOPE I DONT GET INTO A SITUATION WHERE MY SAFETY GETS COMPROMISED. DO NOT KNOW HOW MANY COMPLAINTS NEED TO OCCURR BEFORE HYUNDAI DOES SOMETHING TO SOLVE THE ISSUE AND REALLY PREVENT A MAJOR SAFETY ONE.
I TURN THE KEY AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TURN ON. THE RADIO TURNS ON ALSO. THE PROBLEM IS THE ENGINE DOESN'T START. THERE IS NO NOISE WHERE YOU SHOULD HEAR THE STARTER. JUST SILENCE.
FAILURE TO START. CAR DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE INHIBITOR SWITCH PREVENTS THE CAR FROM STARTING, EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN PARK. CAR CAN NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF PARK OR PUT BACK IN. COULD PRESENT A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE SOMEONE COULD GET STRANDED SOMEWHERE WITH NO WAY TO START CAR. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND ACTUAL YOUTUBE VIDEOS ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE REAL CONCERNS ABOUT MY DAUGHTER DRIVING THIS RELATIVELY NEW CAR AND THEN GETTING STRANDED SOMEWHERE
LEFT TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT IS MALFUNCTIONING. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, THE TAIL LIGHT IS ON; HOWEVER, THAT SAME LIGHT IS ALSO THE BRAKE LIGHT, AND WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED, THE LIGHT WILL NOT ILLUMINATE.
THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH OTHER ELANTRA DRIVERS. THERE ARE VIDEOS ON YOU TUBE WITH THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE DOESN'T START AT TIMES AND IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A NEW CAR AND SHOULD HAVE ISSUES LIKE THAT. IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE STARTER OR THE IGNITION SWITCH. *TR
THE CAR WON'T START. THIS IS A PUSH BUTTON START. I THOUGHT PERHAPS THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE KEY THAT HAS TO BE IN THE CAR AT THE TIME OF STARTING THE CAR. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THIS IS HAPPENED IN THREE WEEKS. THEN I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED AN ONLINE NUMBER AND FOUND OUT THAT THE MANUFACTURE IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY ARE NOT ISSUING A RECALL BUT THEY CALL THIS A CAMPAIGN AND HAVE A NUMBER FOR THIS PROBLEM WHICH IS 933. THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR, BUT THEY WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THEN I CALLED A DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT TO BRING THE CAR IN. I FEEL THIS IS ALL HUSH-HUSH, TO THE DISADVANTAGE OF THE OWNER, WHO COULD FIND THEMSELVES IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE CAR WILL START. THE CAR WONT START. THE BATTERY AND STARTER ARE FINE. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, JUST PERIODICALLY, MAYBE EVERY OTHER DAY OR TWICE A WEEK. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A PATTERN. THE CAR STARTS EVENTUALLY AFTER NUMEROUS TURNS OF THE KEY. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER IF I TURN OFF THE LIGHTS, RADIO ETC.. *TR
CAR WOULD NOT START. AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS AT TURNING KEY, IT FINALLY STARTED. LIGHTS AND HORN FUNCTIONED PROPERLY, BUT I REPLACED THE BATTERY ANYWAY. CAR WOULD STILL NOT START ON FIRST FEW ATTEMPTS. ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL, THEN AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT TURNING KEY, IT WOULD START, AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. BROUGHT IT TO DEALER, THEY SAID THEY CLEANED OUT SOME PARTS OF THE ENGINE AND UPDATED THE COMPUTER. THE NEXT DAY I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THEY CHANGED SOME FUSES. LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, STILL THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE ARE MULTIPLE INCIDENTS OF THIS HAPPENING FOR OTHER OWNERS OF THIS CAR WHICH I FOUND ONLINE WHEN I WAS LOOKING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. *TR
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA WOULD NOT START WHEN IN PARK, EVEN THOUGH THE BATTERY HAS A FULL CHARGE. SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK, AND IT STARTED ON THE FIRST TRY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THERE WAS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. IN ADDITION, THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. WE WERE ON VACATION IN THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS. WE HIKED FOR A COUPLE HOURS AND RETURNED TO THE CAR. I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY, NOTHING. TRIED SEVERAL TIMES, NOTHING. LIGHTS CAME ON BRIGHT, POWER WINDOWS WORKED, DASHBOARD LIGHTS BRIGHT. I TRIED TAKING IT IN AND OUT OF PARK, TRIED TURNING THE KEY DIFFERENT SPEEDS, NOTHING. THE ENGINE DID NOT TRY TO TURN OVER, NO CLICKING, JUST SILENCE. WE TRIED TO GET HELP, NO ONE STOPPED. AFTER AN HOUR OR SO, TRIED IT AGAIN, STARTED RIGHT UP. WE DROVE BACK TO OUR CABIN. IT STARTED FINE THE REST OF THE TIME WE WERE THERE. WHEN WE GOT BACK HOME, TOOK IT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER. EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. HE SAID IF IT WAS WORKING FINE NOW, NOT MUCH THEY COULD DO. HE ALSO ADVISED ME THAT IF THEY DIAGNOSED IT FOR DAYS, FOUND THE PROBLEM, BUT IT WAS A LOOSE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING THAT DID NOT REQUIRE REPLACING A PART, THE ENTIRE LABOR COST WAS MINE TO PAY. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE HYUNDAI 5 YEAR, 60K WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER LABOR AFTER 36K. OUCH! A BUYER BEWARE/READ THE FINE PRINT MOMENT. SO, I LEFT SINCE IT HADN'T HAPPENED IN A COUPLE WEEKS. THIS FIRST INCIDENT WAS IN MID-OCTOBER. THREE WEEKS AGO, AFTER 2 MONTHS, AROUND DEC 20TH, 2014, IT HAPPENED AGAIN. SAME THING. JUST DEAD. BATTERY FINE. EVERYTHING WORKING BUT THE CAR. THE CAR WOULDN'T CRANK OR START WHEN I GOT TO THE GAS STATION. AFTER MULTIPLE TRIES WITH PUTTING THE CAR SHIFTER IN PARK TO NEUTRAL AND SWITCHING THE GEARS IT FINALLY STARTED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND TOOK IT DOWN TO GET LOOKED AT. AS I WAS DRIVING IT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I WAS APPROACHING THE TRAFFIC LIGHT I REALIZED THE CAR WASN'T RUNNING ANYMORE AND BY THIS POINT I HAD LIMITED BRAKE ASSISTANCE AND ALSO LOST ALL POWER STEERING AND HAD TO USE THE E-BRAKE TO HELP WITH STOPPING THE VEHICLE TO PREVENT THE ACCIDENT THAT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. THIS WAS A GREAT THING THAT I WAS DRIVING AND NOT MY WIFE AS SHE WOULD'VE FROZE AND MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO THINK HOW TO GET THE CAR TO STOP IN WHICH THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A ACCIDENT WITH BODILY INJURY OR EVEN POSSIBLE DEATH OF THE PERSON DRIVING THE CAR OR THE INNOCENT PERSON THAT WAS COLLECTED UP IN THE ACCIDENT BUT NO ONE WOULD KNOW AS IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, THANK GOD FOR THIS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED THE REST OF THE WAY TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY LOOKED AT IT AND THE CAR STARTED FOR THEM AND THEY TESTED THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND STARTER AND ALL TESTED GOOD SO THEY GAVE THE CAR BACK TO ME STATING IT WAS THE AC INVERT-OR THAT WAS PLUGGED IN TO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER. I TOLD THEM THAT I PLUGGED THE INVERT-OR IN AFTER THE CAR DIED TO CHARGE MY PHONE BUT THEY STILL INSISTED THAT I WAS LYING I GUESS. I DROVE THE CAR OFF THE LOT AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN BUT I WAS GOING 35 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH NO INCIDENT AS I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR NORMAL SPEED AND KNEW IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN AS THE DEALER SHIP HAD NOT FOUND ANYTHING FAULTY. NOW IT SITS IN THE DRIVEWAY AND IS COMPLETELY DEAD AND WILL NOT START. THE DEALERSHIP MAJOR HYUNDAI OF STROUDSBURG, PA 18360 WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO BRING MY CAR BACK TO THEM AND HYUNDAI WILL ONLY TOW IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP WHICH HAPPENS TO BE THEM. *TR
2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE BATTERY AS AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE. THE DEALER STATED THE BATTERY WAS NOT UNDER WARRANT, SO A REIMBURSEMENT IS BEING REQUESTED. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR THE THIRD TIME, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY. *JB
MY CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT AND I USED THE KEY FOB TO UNLOCK MY CAR. I THEN TRIED TO START THE CAR BUT IT WOULD NOT START. I HAD MY FOOT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE AND PUSHED THE IGNITION BUTTON AND THE LIGHTS/RADIO WOULD COME ON BUT THE CAR MADE A CLICK NOISE AND WOULD NOT CRANK OVER TO START. I TRIED THIS 5 TIMES BEFORE IT STARTED. IT WAS NOT THAT COLD SO WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. I THEN DROVE TO WORK AND AT LUNCH THE SAME THING HAPPENED. IT TOOK 5 TRIES BEFORE THE CAR CRANKED OVER TO START. THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMS TO BE LOCKED AND THEN FINALLY IT HAS SOME GIVE TO START THE CAR. I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP 6 WEEKS PRIOR FOR THIS SAME ISSUE BUT THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM AS IT STARTED FOR THEM EVERY TIME. IT IS STARTING TO NOW GET FRUSTRATING. *TR
A FEW DAYS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT, A WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT APPEARED ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THAT WEEKEND TO HAVE IT CHECKED AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE FIRST UNUSUAL THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THE HYUNDAI LOGO APPEARED ON THE NAV SCREEN WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION.TYPICALLY THE HYUNDAI LOGO ONLY APPEARS WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST STARTED-NEVER WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. ABOUT 10 MILES LATER, ALL OF THE POWER TO THE VEHICLE DISAPPEARED AS I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, IT FELT AS IF I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED IN AN ACCIDENT. AFTER DETERMINING THAT WAS NOT THE CASE, I LOOKED AT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO SEE ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. NOW I'M TRYING TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE POWER WAS MAGICALLY RESTORED AND THE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT THAT HAD APPEARED A FEW DAYS PRIOR WAS NOW GONE. I DID NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. NO, IT RESTARTED ALL BY ITSELF! I TOOK IT TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS WHO BOTH ASSURED ME THE CAR WAS FINE AND THAT WHAT I DESCRIBED WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO OCCUR. TRUST ME WHEN I TELL YOU THAT UNLESS YOU'VE EXPERIENCED LOSING ALL POWER TO A VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, YET HERE IS NOT ANOTHER FEELING LIKE IT. I NO LONGER FELT SAFE IN MY OWN VEHICLE AND MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR IT TO BE REPLACED. I WOULD HAVE FELT MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE HAD THE DEALERSHIP(S) FOUND SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED. GIVEN THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG LEFT ME VERY LEERY OF THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. ALSO, THE MPG GAUGE WOULD RESET ITSELF; AT IDLE, IT FREQUENTLY ALMOST STALLED; AT NIGHT, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER AT IDLE; THE COMPASS READOUT ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WOULD ALSO FLICKER AT IDLE WHEN THE VEHICLE ALMOST STALLED---VERY BIZARRE BEHAVIOR FROM A VEHICLE. *TR
CAR WOULD NOT START WHEN KEY TURNED. DASH LIGHTS CAME ON, BUT ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER OR EVEN CRANK. THE ONLY SOUND WAS A SLIGHT CLICK IN THE ENGINE WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED. JUMP START WOULD NOT HELP. REMEDIED BY TURNING THE KEY UNTIL I COULD SHIFT OUT OF PARK TO ANOTHER GEAR, THEN RETURNED TO PARK. DID THIS MULTIPLE TIMES AND FINALLY THE CAR STARTED NORMALLY. CONCERNED ABOUT LOSING POWER WHEN DRIVING AND HAVING AN ACCIDENT, OR GETTING STRANDED SOMEWHERE. CALLED DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD CHECK FOR BATTERY ISSUES (WHICH IT IS NOT), BUT TO CALL THEM IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN (HOPEFULLY, NOT WHILE DRIVING). *TR
WHEN TURNING ON THE IGNITION SWITCH THE CAR INTERIOR LIGHTS LIGHT UP. TURNING THE KEY TO THE IGNITION POSITION, NOTHING HAPPENS. THERE IS NO DRAW ON THE DASH LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER LIGHTS ON THE CAR. IT SIMPLY HAS NO NOTICEABLE EFFECT. I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND ON NUMEROUS TIMES BEFORE IT STARTS. NOT STARTING IS, OF COURSE, A CONCERN. THE EXPENSES FROM TAKING IT TO A MECHANIC HAS BECOME A REAL DRAIN ON OUR FINANCES. MY 2012 ELANTRA HAS FAILED TO START 3 TIMES WHILE IT WAS IN PARK AND 2 TIMES WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY IN A PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS. THERE WAS NO WARNING WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS WERE ON, RADIO WAS ON AND IT WAS UNTIL I TRIED TO ACCELERATE WHEN I REALIZED THAT THE CAR HAD TURNED OFF ON ME. LUCKILY, IT WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC GOING ABOUT 15 MILES PER HOUR, NONETHELESS, IT WAS A PRETTY NERVE WRECKING UNSAFE EXPERIENCE. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AFTER 3-4 ATTEMPTS. MY BIGGEST FEAR IS THAT THE CAR CAN POTENTIALLY TURN OFF ON ME WHEN I'M GOING 60+ MPH. I DRIVE MY KIDS EVERYWHERE IN THIS CAR AND I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AFTER EVERY INCIDENT AND THEIR MAIN RESPONSE IS THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE, THEY CAN'T FIX IT. AT ONE POINT, THEY CLAIMED THAT IT COULD BE DUE TO CARBON BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE SO I PAID ~$300 FOR THAT SERVICE WHICH DID NOT HELP BECAUSE THE CAR TURNED OFF ON THE FREEWAY SEVERAL MONTHS LATER. I HAVE EVEN HAD THE HYUNDAI TOW TRUCK FROM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE TOW MY CAR FROM MY WORK PARKING LOT TO THE DEALER IN HOPES THAT IT WAS PROOF THAT THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON. TOW TRUCK DRIVER CONFIRMED THE CAR DID NOT TURN ON, THEN PREPPED CAR TO PLACE ON TOW TRUCK BED. HE GOT THE CAR TO DEALER, THEN ATTEMPTED TO TURN ON THE CAR AND IT DID. I TRIED TO GET DOCUMENTATION FROM HIM BUT HE DECLINED. ALL I GOT WAS A LETTER THAT STATED THAT THE CAR WAS TAKEN FROM MY WORK PARKING LOT TO THE DEALER WITH ZERO DETAILS. THE DEALER IS BEING IRRESPONSIBLE AND DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF PURSUING THE LEMON LAW AND GOING TO BBB FOR ARBITRATION IN HOPES THAT THEY TAKE THE CAR BACK. I FEEL LIKE I DON'T HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE. I'VE HAD THE FOLLOWING ISSUES WITH THE 2012 ELANTRA: 1.) THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THIS ONLY HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY SO IT IS HARD TO PREDICT WHEN IT WILL OCCUR AND WHERE YOU WILL BE STRANDED. ALL INDICATOR LIGHTS WILL TURN ON BUT WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION ALL THE WAY NOTHING HAPPENS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER SINCE IT STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THE ISSUE. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 3 WEEKS NOW AND STILL TRYING TO FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR. 2.) THERE ARE ALSO INSTANCE WHERE THE ENGINE STARTS BUT THE GEAR GETS STUCK IN PARK AND CANNOT SWITCH TO OTHER GEAR. I HAD TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND TRY TO RESTART. 3.) THE BATTERY LIGHT INDICATOR BRIEFLY LIGHTS UP AT 60 MPH. *TR
THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, ALL LIGHTS / ACCESSORIES WERE IN PERFECT WORKING ORDER, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD DO NOTHING WHEN THE KEY WAS TURNED TO THE START POSITION. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED IT NEW. AFTER RECOMMENDING A FUEL SYSTEM TREATMENT - WHICH WE HAD PREVIOUSLY UNDERGONE AT 40K - WE DECLINED. THE NET RESULT OF THIS VISIT WAS THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. AFTER EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM A FEW MORE TIMES (9/8,9/9,9/21, 9/23 ALL ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE CALLS), SOMETIMES BEING ABLE TO START THE CAR AFTER A FEW MINUTES - SOMETIMES NOT. WE FIND OURSELVES AT AN IMPASS WITH THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE TELLING US THEY WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO RUN A DIAGNOSTIC WITHOUT CHARGING US THE FEE - EVEN THOUGH WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR I PAID IN EXCESS OF $1200 FOR THE 100000 BUMPER TO BUMPER EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT. ALL OF THE INTERIOR ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS APPEARED TO BE WORKING. THE ENGINE FAILED TO TURN OVER. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE CAR STARTED. THE VEHICLE STARTED DOZENS OF TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WITHOUT ISSUE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE TO START HAS RECURRED TWICE MORE IN THE PAST FOUR DAYS. THIS DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A BATTERY ISSUE. *TR
WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING MY 2012 ELANTRA, I STARTED HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING. DASH WOULD LIGHT UP NORMALLY, AND RADIO, ETC WORKED FINE, HOWEVER THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TRY TO TURN OVER AT ALL OR MAKE ANY NOISE WHATSOEVER. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR IS NOT SENSING THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK. THE DASH WILL NORMALLY DISPLAY P (FOR PARK), HOWEVER IN THESE INSTANCES THE DASH IS BLANK WHERE THE TRANSMISSION POSITION SHOULD BE DISPLAYED. THE SHIFTER IS ALSO STUCK IN PARK SO I CAN NOT MOVE TO ANY OTHER GEAR. IN ORDER TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, I HAVE TO USE THE SHIFT OVERIDE AND MOVE THE CAR OUT OF PARK AND THEN BACK INTO PARK. THE DASH WILL THEN DISPLAY THE P, AND I CAN START THE CAR NORMALLY. I HAVE TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS, AND THEIR COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS DON'T DETECT ANY PROBLEMS. THEY SAID IF THEY CAN'T REPEAT THE PROBLEM THEN THEY WON'T CHANGE OUT ANY COMPONENTS. THIS IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY I CAN GET IT TO THE DEALER WHEN THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING. *TR
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON I GOT INTO MY CAR TO GO TO THE STORE, AND IT WOULDN'T START. I CONTINUED TO TURN THE KEY TO ON POSITION, THEN BACK OFF AND WOULDN'T START. THEN TRIED AGAIN IN THEN IT FINALLY STARTED BARELY. AGAIN I GOT INTO MY CAR TO GO TO WORK, AND IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. I SWITCHED THE KEY BACK OFF POSITION AND ON AGAIN AND STILL NO START. TRIED IT AGAIN 2 MORE TIMES TO START AND FINALLY IT STARTED UP. I HAD THIS ISSUE ABOUT A YEAR AGO ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AND GOT IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND NOTHING BECAUSE IT STARTED RIGHT UP FOR THEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO TO GET THIS ISSUE FROM OCCURRING. *TR
THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION PERIODICALLY FAILS TO START. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. AT FIRST THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START ON OCCASION BUT HAS SINCE BEGAN HAVING STARTING ISSUES MORE FREQUENTLY. I CONTACTED MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD OF TWO POSSIBLE ISSUES REGARDING A STOP LAMP SWITCH AND A FAULTY STARTER. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY A PROBLEM. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI USA AND THEY WERE UNAWARE OF AN ISSUE REGARDING MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE AS THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE BUT THERE ARE RECALLS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE BUT WITH OTHER VEHICLES. I FEEL THAT HYUNDAI IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS WITH THEIR WARRANTY AND I DO NOT KNOW ON A DAILY BASIS IF MY VEHICLE IS GOING TO START THE NEXT TIME I ATTEMPT IT. *TR
ENGINE WOULD NOT CRANK. LIGHTS,WINDOWS,RADIO,ETC. ALL WORKED. SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND CAR STARTED. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR
SEVERAL WEEKS AGO, ON A SUNDAY, I GOT INTO MY 2012 HYUNDAI ELANTRA IN THE PARKING LOT OF THE LOCAL KROGER AND TRIED TO START THE CAR. IT REFUSED TO START OR TURN OVER. IT DIDN'T MAKE A SOUND. THE LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC. WORKED FINE, BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. I CALLED A FRIEND WHO CAME OVER AND JUMPED ME OFF. I THOUGHT THIS COULD BE RELATED TO MY BATTERY, BUT FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, I HAD NO PROBLEMS. THIS PAST SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IT GAVE A LITTLE HICCUP, AS IF IT WASN'T GOING TO START, BUT THEN IT STARTED ANYWAY. I MADE A SHORT TRIP INTO TOWN, STOPPED AT THE STORE, CAME BACK AND THE CAR STILL STARTED FINE. BUT THE NEXT MORNING, MONDAY, AUG. 25, IT WOULD NOT START AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. MY NEIGHBOR GAVE ME A JUMP-OFF - IT TOOK A COUPLE OF MINUTES, BUT FINALLY THE CAR STARTED. I ASSUMED THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE BATTERY, SO I HEADED TO AUTOZONE AND GOT A NEW BATTERY INSTALLED. SEVERAL DAYS PASSED, AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. ON THURSDAY MORNING, AUGUST 28, IT WOULDN'T START AGAIN. I TRIED REPEATEDLY, NO LUCK. I CALLED A FRIEND, WHO CAME OVER TO JUMP IT OFF. STILL WOULDN'T START. I CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO PRIDE HYUNDAI, A DEALERSHIP IN BATESVILLE, MISS. I GOT A RIDE TO WORK AND, LATER, I GOT A CALL FROM PRIDE HYUNDAI. THEY SAID THE CAR STARTED JUST FINE. THEY ALSO REPORTED THAT THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAID IT STARTED FOR HIM AS WELL. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THEY SAID THEY'D LOOK AT IT. HOURS LATER, I CALLED THEM BACK (SINCE IT WAS CLEAR THEY HAD FORGOTTEN TO CALL ME) AND THEY SAID THEY'D HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. I ASKED THEM TO KEEP IT OVERNIGHT AND TRY IT AGAIN THE NEXT MORNING. THE LADY ON THE PHONE WENT OUT TO THE LOT AND CAME BACK - SHE SAID IT STARTED FINE FOR HER AND AGAIN SHE INSISTED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. *TR
THE CAR WILL NOT START ONCE IT IS TURNED OFF. IT COULD START ONCE AND GO TO THE STORE, AND THEN LOCK UP FOR A FEW HOURS. EVENTUALLY IT WILL ACT NORMAL AGAIN AD THEN START ALL OVER AGAIN. *TR
WHENEVER I TRY TO TURN ON MY CAR EVERYTHING TURNS ON EXCEPT THE ENGINE. THE LIGHTS AND EVERYTHING ARE FINE. THE BATTERY TESTS FINE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES AND THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG WITH IT. IT HAS NOT STARTED APPROXIMATELY 15-20 TIMES. BASED ON ACCOUNTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM THE ENGINE HAS ALSO STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. THANKFULLY THE ISSUE HAS ONLY EVER OCCURRED WHEN MY CAR IS PARKED, BUT I'D REALLY RATHER NOT RISK IT HAPPENING ON THE ROAD IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. *TR
MY 2012 ELANTRA STARTED FINE THIS MORNING AND EVERY DAY PREVIOUSLY, BUT WHEN I WENT TO START IT AFTER SHOPPING, IT WOULDN'T START. I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND NOTHING. HOWEVER, ALL OF THE LIGHTS INSIDE WORKED. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET IT TO START AND IT FINALLY STARTED. I CAME HOME AND THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS, I WENT OUT TO GO SOMEWHERE AND ONCE AGAIN, IT WOULDN'T START. AFTER 3-4 TIMES OF TURNING THE KEY, IT FINALLY STARTED. I CURRENTLY HAVE IT READY TO BE PICKED UP TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP AS I AM ASSUMING IT WILL NOT START AGAIN THE NEXT TIME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS WELL AS VIEWING VIDEOS OF THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENING. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN JUNE OF 2012 SO I WOULDN'T HAVE TO HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING STRANDED, BUT I MAY BE REGRETTING MY DECISION. *TR
I ATTEMPTED TO START MY CAR LAST NIGHT AND IT DIDN'T START, LIGHTS WERE ON FULL POWER AND EVERYTHING BUT NOT A SOUND FROM THE ENGINE... TRIED MANY MANY TIMES DIDN'T START. THEN RANDOMLY IT STARTED. ONE DAY IN JUNE, I TRIED TO START MY CAR AND THE PARK SENSOR ABOVE MY ODOMETER WOULD NOT SHOW. BECAUSE OF THIS, THE CAR WOULDN'T START AT ALL. I HAD TO CONTINUE TO TRY TO START THE CAR, BY TURNING THE KEY MULTIPLE TIMES INSIDE THE IGNITION AND PRESSING MY FOOT ONTO THE PEDAL. IT FINALLY STARTED, BUT NOT WITHOUT APPREHENSION ON MY PART. THE REST OF THE TIME, THE CAR WORKED OK FOR THE MOST PART, BUT WHENEVER I REACHED A TRAFFIC LIGHT IT WOULD ACT AS IF IT WERE PARKED AND ACTED A BIT FUNNY. THE STORY ABOVE HAPPENED 8 MORE TIMES OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. I HAD THE BATTERY CHECKED TO SEE IF IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM, ONLY TO REALIZE THE BATTERY WAS FINE. I TRIED OTHER TECHNIQUES, SUCH AS TURNING THE KEY COMPLETELY 90 DEGREES, BUT THAT DIDN'T SOLVE IT. FINALLY, I WENT TO THE DEALER AND UPON MY STORY BEING SHARED, THE MECHANICS IMMEDIATELY TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH WAS NOT WORKING. THEY HAD NOTICED MORE HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012 CARS IN THE PAST FEW DAYS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. SINCE I AM UNDER THE 5 YEAR / 60,000 MILE WARRANTY, THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED AT NO COST. HOWEVER, WHILE THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED AT MY END. I WOULD HOPE THIS STORY WOULD SPUR A FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THE TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCHES ON ALL HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012S AND SEE WHAT ISSUES (IF ANY) COULD RESULT OVER A FAULTED TRANSMISSION RANGE SWITCH. *TR
THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT MAY BE DUE TO THE SWITCH OVERHEATING. AFTER SEVERAL TRIES, HYUNDAI DEALER CALLED, SENDS A TOW TRUCK. TOW TRUCK DRIVER TURNS KEY. WON'T START. TOW TRUCK DRIVER SAYS YOU NEED TO TURN THE KEY AND HOLD IT DOWN TO "RESET THE COMPUTER, RESET THE BRAKE SWITCH." HE DOES THIS AND CAR STARTS. HE TOWS IT TO DEALER 6/11/14. DEALER CAN'T RECREATE PROBLEM (SANDS DOWN PAINTED GROUND AREAS). 6/26/14- CAR STARTS BUT IS STUCK IN PARK, CAN'T SHIFT TO DRIVE. TURN OFF. TURN BACK ON. ABLE TO SHIFT TO DRIVE. LATER SAME DAY 6/26/14, TURN KEY IN IGNITION. NOTHING HAPPENS. HOLD KEY DOWN AS INSTRUCTED BY TOW TRUCK DRIVER ON 6/11. TURN OFF, TURN BACK ON, CAR STARTS. READ UP ON THE ISSUE ONLINE. SYMPTOMS SOUND SIMILAR TO BRAKE SWITCH RECALL ISSUES ON EARLIER MODELS. *TR
DRIVER ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE BUT THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED AND HIT ANOTHER CAR, ALSO UPON IMPACT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED TO PROTECT THE DRIVER CONSIDERING HOW SEVERELY THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR WERE DAMAGED. 2 DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT, CAR WAS NOT STARTING, WAS JUMPED- START AND VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO HYUNDAI SERVICE AND THEY DID NOT SEE ANYTHING WRONG. *TR
VEHICLE WILL NOT START ONCE STOPPED. AFTER AN HOUR OR SO IT WILL RESTART. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR ABOUT A YEAR. IT HAPPENED AGAIN THIS MORNING (OCT. 16). THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED BY HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP WHERE PURCHASED IN BAYTOWN TEXAS. ALSO AT NTB STORE IN ATASCOCITA, TX. AFTER THOROUGHLY CHECKING ALL POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THIS TYPE PROBLEM, THROUGH VEHICLE DIAGNOSTICS THEN REPLACING THE BATTERY, NEITHER SERVICE CENTER HAS DETECTED A PROBLEM. THEY HAVE GIVEN A RESOLUTION OF NO PROBLEM FOUND. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR A YEAR NOW. THE PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT SIX MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. *TR
MY ELANTRA LIMITED WILL NOT START OCCASIONALLY FOR NO REASON. I HAVE TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND BACK TO PARK, THEN REPEAT TO GET IT TO START. THIS HAPPENS SO OFTEN I AM USED TO IT DOING THIS, SO I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL. THAT PRETTY MUCH SUMS IT UP. *JB

I JUMP STARTED CAR TO GET IT TO THE SHOP, SAID WATER IN BATTERY LOW, ABOUT 1 MONTH LATER, SAME THING, DEALER KEPT CAR, REPLACED BATTERY SEVERAL TIMES, UNPLUGGED WIRES, CHASED WIRES FROM FRONT TO BACK, DEALER CALLED TWICE, WENT TO PICK UP CAR, WOULD NOT START AT DEALER. OUT OF SHOP, KEPT ABOUT 3 WEEKS, SAME THING, DEALER KEPT IN SHOP FOR ANOTHER 35 DAYS, PLUS THIS TIME IT HAD A BIG DENT IN LEFT DOOR, GAS LEAK,PART OF HEAT SHIELD HAD NOT REPLACED, RUST ON THE FRAME WHERE BATTERY ACID WAS SPILLED, RUST ON ENGINE AND SURROUNDING PARTS. GOT OUT OF SHOP, HAD IT FOR 1 WEEK, SAME THING NOT START, DEALER CALLED WRECKER, HAULED OFF, CONTACTED ME SAID WOULD TITLE IT AS A LEMON. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THOSE SIZE TIRES, MATTER OF FACT THEY WERE MADE IN VN. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS DESCRIBED IN THE 2011 RECALL WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH. MY CRUISE CONTROL SOMETIMES DOES NOT WORK AND 3 TIMES HAS CUT OFF ON ITS OWN. IT WILL NOT CUT BACK ON TILL VEHICLE IS PULLED OVER AND STOPPED. I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE REPRODUCED BUT ITS HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AND IM NOT SATISFIED WITH EITHER COCOA BEACH OR MELBOURNE DEALER. I HAVE A RECURRING CLUTCH PEDAL ISSUE AS WELL AND DO NOT TRUST THEIR TECHNICIANS ANY LONGER. I WILL JUST DRIVE THE CAR TILL IT LEAVES ME STRANDED OR IN A WRECK. WESTLAND HYUNDAI HOWEVER HAS NEVER HAD A REPEAT REPAIR. IM NOT SURE WHY THEIR TECHS ARE SO MUCH MORE RELIABLE. WISH I STILL LIVED IN UTAH TO HAVE MY ISSUES RESOLVED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE CUT OF COMPLETELY. ELECTRICAL, ENGINE, POWER STEERING, WINDOWS, EVERYTHING WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE AND SHUTDOWN. I WAS FORCED TO MANUALLY FORCE THE VEHICLE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AWAY FROM TRAFFIC/INTO SAFETY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN 2 WEEKS! THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY HAD REPLACED THE PCM/ECM. ONCE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THIS IS COMPLETELY INEXCUSABLE. *TR
TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE, VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED (AS IF I HIT SOMETHING ON THE ROAD) COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE. DASH, RADIO, NAVIGATION, POWER STEERING WENT DEAD. A FEW SECONDS LATER POWER CAME BACK WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL ROLLING AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART BY DEPRESSING BRAKE AND "START/STOP" BUTTON. A FEW MINUTES LATER WHILE TRAVELING AT LOWER SPEED, THE EVENT REPEATED. THIS TIME POWER WOULD NOT RETURN. CAR WAS IN MOTION AND WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO EMERGENCY SHOULDER. CAR WAS STUCK IN NEUTRAL SO EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED TO PREVENT ROLL BACK. POWER GONE, UNABLE TO ROLL DOWN WINDOWS, ACTIVATE SUNROOF, RADIO OR ANYTHING REQUIRING POWER. WHILE CALL WAS BEING MADE TO ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND AFTER 10 MINUTE WAIT ON HOLD, DASH ILLUMINATED POWER AND CAR WAS ABLE TO BE STARTED WITH START/STOP BUTTON. DECISION WAS MADE TO LEAVE INTERSTATE AND TAKE BACK ROADS TO AVOID FATALITY IN EVENT OF REPEAT. FAILURE EXPERIENCE 3 ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE HYUNDAI ELANTRA 2012 IS EQUIPPED WITH FRONT AND REAR SEAT WARMERS. THE SWITCH FOR THE FRONT SEATS RESETS TO OFF WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE SWITCH FOR THE REAR SEATS, HOWEVER, REMAINS IN THE ON POSITION. THE NEXT TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON, THE REAR SEAT WARMERS WILL BE ACTIVATED AGAIN UNTIL THEY ARE MANUALLY DEACTIVATED. A CAVEAT IN THE HYUNDAI MANUAL STATES: "WITH THE SEAT WARMER SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION, THE HEATING SYSTEM IN THE SEAT TURNS OFF AND ON AUTOMATICALLY DEPENDING ON THE SEAT TEMPERATURE." THIS SAFETY FEATURE IS TO PREVENT INJURY TO SOMEONE USING THE SEAT. MY CONCERN IS THE POTENTIAL HAZARD THE REAR SEAT WARMERS POSE WHEN THEY ARE NOT BEING USED BY A PASSENGER AND THE DRIVER IS UNAWARE THEY ARE ACTIVATED. ON COLD WINTER DAYS THE REAR SEAT WARMERS COULD BE HEATING AT MAXIMUM WATTAGE EVERY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED ON, UNBEKNOWNST TO THE DRIVER. WITH THIS BEING A SEATING AREA OFTEN USED BY CHILDREN, I BELIEVE THERE IS A HIGH LIKELIHOOD THAT THESE SWITCHES COULD BE LEFT IN THE ON POSITION FREQUENTLY AND FOR LENGTHY PERIODS OF TIME. THIS POSES BOTH A HEALTH RISK, AS WELL AS, UNDUE WEAR ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND REAR SEAT COMPONENTS. *TR
