SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK/TRACTION CONTROL/ELECTRONIC LIMITED SLIP:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2007-2010 Elantra and 2009-2011 Elantra Touring vehicles. On February 21, 2020 Hyundai expanded the recall to include 46,425 model year 2007-2008 Entourage and 2007 Santa Fe vehicles. Moisture may enter the Anti-lock Brake (ABS) Module and result in an electrical short.
Fix: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install a relay in the vehicle's main junction box to prevent the risk of an ABS short-circuit while the car is turned off, free of charge. The recall began April 2, 2020. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 188.

The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the brake pedal would intermittently depress to the floorboard without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to two separate independent mechanics, and both informed her that the brakes were okay and could not determine the cause of the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owned a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that he did not receive a notice for NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V061000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was included in the recall and the vehicle caught on fire while parked in his residence parking lot. No warning lights were illuminated. The fire department extinguished the flames. A police report was filed and the contact was informed that the origin of the fire came from the front of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not yet made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,500.
When I started my car, the brake lights were on and the brakes were not responding. I took it to a mechanic who replaced a brake line and reported that there was rust on other brake lines as well

The contact called the local dealer who stated the parts were not yet available. The contact called ABC Hyundai (6825 Redwood St, Las Vegas, NV 89118, (702)706-7885) and was informed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2010 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard without warning. The contact had initially taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where he had the brake booster and brake master cylinder replaced. The contact then stated that when the engine was off, the ABS system remained activated as the ABS warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact took the vehicle back to the independent mechanic and was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V061000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact took the vehicle to a dealer and the recall repair was performed however, the failure persisted. The contact then called the manufacturer and was referred to another dealer. The contact took the vehicle to Greenway Hyundai Orlando (4110 W Colonial Dr, Orlando, FL 32808) where he paid for a diagnostic test and was informed that the ABS module needed to be replaced. He was also informed that the recall was serviced and that he would be responsible for any additional repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 112,000.

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V061000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER, AFTER CONTACTING THE LOCAL DEALER GLENDALE HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 411 S BRAND BLVD, GLENDALE, CA 91204, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WAS INOPERABLE AND NO SERVICE APPOINTMENTS WERE AVAILABLE. AFTER CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT NO RECALL SERVICE APPOINTMENTS COULD BE PLACED DUE TO AN INOPERABLE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WE RECEIVED A LETTER IN REGARDS TO A SAFETY RECALL ON THE 2010 ELANTRA. WE OWN TWO OF THIS VEHICLE. I CONTACTED HUNTINGTON HYUNDAI, IN HUNTINGTON, N.Y. TO SCHEDULE THE REPAIR. AS PER JOE SANTIAGO WHO ANSWERED, THEY ARE NOT TAKING APPOINTMENTS FOR THIS REPAIR, AND WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTING VEHICLES ON A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS MONDAY - FRIDAY 9 AM - 5 PM. IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT WE MAY HAVE TO COME BACK MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE IS ACCEPTED FOR REPAIR. AS A FIRST RES PONDER I AM STILL WORKING DURING THE OUTBREAK AND WILL BE UNABLE TO TAKE MULTIPLE DAYS OFF FROM WORK TO "TRY" TO GET THE CAR IN. THEY WERE VERY UNHELPFUL AND UNNECESSARILY RUDE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CONVERSATION.

THE CONTACT ENDED UP CRASHING INTO THE GUARDER RAIL. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED AN NECK, BACK, SHOULDER, AND KNEE INJURY AS WELL AS A FRACTURED TOE WHICH MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT FAILED TO EFFECTIVELY SLOW THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE VIN WAS INVALID.
WHILE IN HEAVY, SLOW MOVING TRAFFIC, A CAR STOPPED ABRUPTLY IN FRONT OF ME. I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES BUT MY CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE. I HAD LEFT SPACE BETWEEN OUR VEHICLES BUT THE CAR KEPT MOVING FORWARD AND I HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS OF DAMAGE. THIS IS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE.
WHILE EXITING THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 25 MPH, TRAFFIC STOPPED ABRUPTLY ON THE ACCESS ROAD. I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES BUT THE CAR SEEMED TO ACCELERATE. I HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME EVEN THOUGH I HAD 2 CAR LENGTHS OF SPACE BETWEEN US. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS OF DAMAGE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,044.
THE BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM CHECK VALVE SUDDENLY FAILED WHILE DRIVING RESULTING IN VASTLY REDUCED BRAKING POWER AND NEAR INABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LET THE CAR SLOW NATURALLY AND TURN ONTO A SIDE ROAD. IF I HAD BEEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. WHEN INSPECTED THE VACUUM LINE WAS COMPLETELY DISCONNECTED FROM THE VALVE RESULTING IN NO POWER FROM THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS PART OF THE VEHICLE HAD NEVER BEEN SERVICED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HYUNDAI ELANTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING TO STANDARDS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO FIRESTONE AUTO FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES THEY PULSATED. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION HE FOUND THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE ROTORS ARE RUSTED AND PITTED. THE REAR ROTORS ARE WORST THAN THE FRONT. HE ALSO NOTED THAT THE REAR BRAKE SHOES ARE WORN OUT AND NEED REPLACED. NORMALLY THE FRONT PADS ARE REPLACED TWICE TO ONCE IN THE REAR. MY GUESS IS THAT THE ROTORS CAUSED THE REAR PADS TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. I CONTACTED HYUNDAI AND THEY SAID THAT THE ROTORS ARE WARRANTED FOR 5 YEARS / 60,000 MILES BUT ONLY MANUFACTURED DEFECTS ARE COVERED. THEY SAID THAT RUSTING AND PITTING FROM WEATHER CONDITIONS IS NOT COVERED. SHOULD I HAVE KEPT THEM OILED SO THEY DIDN'T RUST? I HAVE A 2006 KIA WITH OVER 113,000 MILES ON IT AND THE ROTORS ARE STILL PERFECT WITH NO RUST OR CORROSION. BOTH VEHICLES HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO THE SAME DRIVING AND WEATHER CONDITIONS. HAD I NOT PAINT FOR THE VEHICLE INSPECTION AND BEEN TOLD THAT THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE BAD. I COULD HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO BRAKE FAILURE OR POSSIBLY ONE OF THEM HANGING UP AND CAUSING A SPIN OUT CONDITION. *TR

A CAR PURCHASED NEW AND DRIVEN FOR FOUR MONTHS IS EXPERIENCING BRAKE FAILURE. IT IS OCCURRING WHEN DRIVEN IN SNOWY CONDITIONS WHILE IN LOWER GEAR. THE PEDAL LOCKS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PUSH DOWN IN ORDER TO BRAKE. THE PEDAL SHAKES AND GRINDS IN THE PROCESS. *TR
