2018 Honda Pilot — Known Issues & Recalls

Your 2018 Pilot has experienced unpredictable acceleration problems without warning lights, including delayed response when changing lanes and sudden lurching or bucking when accelerating from a stop. These issues forced you to brake hard and take evasive action to avoid accidents, and they happened despite no visible warning signs. Diagnostic testing found a torque converter problem (code P0741), which will likely require torque converter inspection, fluid replacement, or internal transmission repair.

While accelerating to merge onto the highway at 40-50 MPH, the ~50K mile engine lost power and began to abruptly decelerate. All warning lights came on. The car was taken to the dealership where we were informed that the camshaft broke.

It hasn't been until my most recent visit on 12/18/25, that a customer service representative told me that my vehicle needed a new torque converter.

Issue with Power Train caused car to go into limp/survival mode. Dealer found issue with power train sensor Code, error PO 369 CMP Sensor Interruption CMP Sensor Damaged. Mileage on care was 73,048.

This car has had numerous transmission issues and a documented torque converter failure. Honda extended the warranty for 2018 pilots with these failures but did not include our VIN number even though it’s the sane problem. They are refusing to fix it.

Your vehicle's high-pressure fuel pump failed about a year after Honda replaced the low-pressure fuel pump under a recall. The defective low-pressure pump may have put extra stress on the high-pressure pump before it was replaced. When the high-pressure pump failed while you were driving on the highway, your engine suddenly lost power and stalled, creating a safety hazard. Before the failure, you noticed reduced engine performance, lower fuel economy, and drivability problems. Fixing this will require replacing the high-pressure fuel pump and possibly inspecting the fuel system for any ongoing issues.

Your engine developed a knocking sound at 94,000 miles due to a connecting rod bearing defect, but the dealer dismissed it as normal valve noise without documenting your complaint. The knocking worsened over the next 6,750 miles until your engine failed completely and required replacement at 100,750 miles. If the engine had seized while driving at highway speed, you would have lost power steering and braking assistance, creating a serious crash risk. The repair will require complete engine replacement and may involve inspecting the bearing assembly for manufacturing defects.

While driving at 80 mph, your car suddenly lost power and stalled even though you were pressing the accelerator. Several warning lights came on. After pulling over, turning the engine off and back on, the car ran normally again. This happened at 82,000 miles, and you suspect it may be related to a fuel system recall, though your VIN wasn't included in that recall.

This 2018 Honda Pilot has been taken to mechanic after a number of check engine and other dash lights came on while trying to accelerate to merge with freeway traffic. Mechanic pulled a P0369 code and I paid for replacement of the cam shaft sensor. Problems continued shortly after work and mechanic conducted further inspections and determined the sensor had been worn by a walking camshaft.

Whining noise during acceleration in any gear, gets louder as acceleration advances

The front passenger seatbelt snapped into 2 pieces toward the floor. It is physically impossible for that portion of the seatbelt to get caught in the door that would weaken it. The only people who are in the vehicle since we bought it new from Honda are my wife and I who are both in our 70's.

While driving, the vehicle just stopped. Tried to navigate to get to side of the road, but ended up stuck in the middle of the lane, in the middle of the road. My pilot also has some sort of lock, so I could not put it in neutral to be pushed out of oncoming traffic.

Reporting recall for crankshaft connecting rod bearing and the fuel pump. Notified Jan. Have called many times.

All warning lights triggered on by faulty rear view camera sensor making one unable to discern if there is a true issue with one of the systems

Driver side mirror has been vibrating since my purchase of the vehicle. Today the mirror glass has separated from the mirror housing while driving causing me to lose the ability to use this mirror. There is an open recall for the 2020-2021 production years of this vehicle for this same issue which should be extended to the include the 2016-2019 range as well.
