HONDA HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2008 ODYSSEY AND ELEMENT PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 28, 2006 AND AUGUST 21, 2008. AIR CAN ENTER THE VSA MODULAR PUMP DURING AN INITIAL SELF-CHECK PROCESS THAT OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER EACH TIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ENOUGH AIR TO ENTER THE SYSTEM TO RESULT IN A BRAKE PEDAL THAT FEELS SOFT OR LOWER TO THE FLOOR.
Fix: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNER AND HONDA DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VSA MODULATOR BY REMOVING ANY EXISTING AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THEN APPLY SEALANT AND CAPS TO PREVENT AIR FROM ENTERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ODYSSEY AND ACURA RL VEHICLES. BRAKE FLUID CONTAINING POLYMERS IS USED THAT ACTS AS A LUBRICANT FOR CERTAIN BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS. IF REPLACEMENT BRAKE FLUID IS USED THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN SUCH POLYMERS, OR THAT CONTAINS ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS, A PART OF THE RUBBER SEAL LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER MAY BECOME DRY, AND THE SEAL MAY CURL DURING MOVEMENT OF THE PISTON. IF THIS OCCURS, A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID COULD SLOWLY LEAK FROM THE SEAL INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

I PURCHASED THIS USED CAR IN MARCH 2020. THE ISSUE I AM HAVING IS WITH THE BRAKES. THE CAR REQUIRE A MORE THAN USUAL PEDAL PRESSURE FOR THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR. THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS WHEN THE CAR IS MOVING IN HIGH SPEED. I HAVE ALSO RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF HONDA ODESSEY OWNERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT SAME ISSUE.

I LOOKED THIS UP AND IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH HONDA ODYSSEYS -- WARPED ROTORS, AND NOT DUE TO OVERUSE OR HIGH MILES. MY HONDA ACTUALLY HAS PRETTY LOW MILES. IT IS VERY CONCERNING WHEN I'M DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY IN THE MOUNTAINS AND FEEL LIKE I ALMOST DON'T HAVE CONTROL OF THE CAR SINCE IT SHAKES SO MUCH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SEVERAL INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER HAD NOT MALFUNCTIONED AND NO LEAKS WERE FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 229,000.
WHEN TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED (5-10 MPH) AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THIS HAPPENED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. FEB 1, 2018 AND FEB 14, 2018. THE PROBLEM CAUSED MINOR ACCIDENTS IN BOTH CASES. ON FEB 1, THE CAR WAS IN A PARKING LOT, PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND THE CAR ACCELERATED AND RAN OVER A HANDICAPPED PARKING SIGN. ON FEB 14, IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY, TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, DEPRESSED THE BRAKE, AND THE CAR ACCELERATED INTO A TRACTOR-TRAILER CAUSING EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ODYSSEY, BUT NOT TO THE TRACTOR TRAILER. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP MAINTAINS THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES OR ACCELERATOR. AS THE OWNER, I AM CONVINCED THERE IS A PROBLEM AND THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, AND IN FACT WE HAVE GOTTEN RID OF THE CAR AND BOUGHT A NEW ONE BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I ALSO DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THAT 22 OTHER PEOPLE HAD HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 ODYSSEY. I'M CONCERNED THAT THERE IS NEED FOR A RECALL, BUT HONDA IS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE PROBLEM.

I WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKES JUST LOST POWER AND I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE VERY FIRMLY TO FEEL ANY ACTUAL BRAKING HAPPEN. THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED ABOUT 200 MILES AGO AND THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM FLUSHED DUE TO PREVIOUS ISSUE OF A VERY SPONGY OR SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE FAILURE STARTED AT THE END OF A 50 MILE COMMUTE AT AS I GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND APPROACHED A RED LIGHT IT TOOK TWICE-THREE TIMES THE NORMAL DISTANCE TO STOP GOING ABOUT 40 MPH.

THE "BUZZ" IS A VIBRATION, WHICH IS FELT IN THE FIRST FEW SECONDS AFTER APPLICATION AND IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEARS IF BRAKING IS HELD, OR RELEASED. BASED ON HONDA'S RECOMMENDATIONS, THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER IS TO BE REPLACED IF THERE IS ANY LEAK. IT IS MY POSITION, THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER UPON DETERMINING THAT IT WAS LEAKING AS IMPLICIT IN THE RECALL REQUIRED THAT THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER BE REPLACED. HAD THIS BEEN REPLACED THERE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN A FAILURE TO THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER. *JS

I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND MY VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. AS I PUT MORE PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR AS IT'S GETTING CLOSER THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, MY VEHICLE STARTED ACCELERATE SUDDENLY. I QUICKLY MOVED MY FOOT FURTHER LEFT TO MAKE SURE IT WAS COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND STEPPED HARDER, THE ENGINE RAN EVEN FASTER AND IT HIT THE CAR IN THE FRONT AND STOPPED. I LOOKED AT THE AREA OF THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDALS AND EVERYTHING WAS CLEAR AND SEPARATE. FORTUNATELY THE SPEED OF THE CAR WAS SLOW, NO ONE GOT INJURED. THE FRONT BUMPER OF MY CAR AND THE REAR BUMPER OF THE OTHER CAR DENTED. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.

I FORGOT TO ADD THE RECALL NUMBER ON THE VSA DEVICE THAT LOCKS UP WITHOUT DRIVERS INVOLVEMENT AND CAUSES ACCIDENTS. I WAS TOLD BY HONDA IT IS 13-098 IN MY FORMER COMPLAINT TODAY. BOTTOM LINE, IF I DRIVE IT WITH THIS UNSAFE CONDITION AND IT LOCKS UP AND CAUSES AN ACCIDENT, WHO IS LIABLE FOR DAMAGES ETC? IF I DON'T DRIVE IT I HAVE NO CAR UNTIL REPAIRED. DOES OR IS HONDA RESPONSIBLE TO PROVIDE US A CAR UNTIL OURS IS REPAIRED AND SAFE AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE REMEDY PART WOULD NOT BECOME AVAILABLE UNTIL MAY 2014. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

I WAS DRIVING OUT IN THE COUNTRY, I WAS GOING AROUND 40MPHS WHEN THE CAR FELT LIKE AN EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS PULLED UP. THE CAR BRAKED VERY QUICKLY FROM 40 TO ABOUT 5 -10MPHS. I STOPPED ,TESTED THE BRAKES AND BEGAN TO GO AGAIN VERY SLOWLY. AFTER DRIVING A FEW MINS SLOWLY I BEGAN TO GO FASTER WHEN I HIT ABOUT 35 MPH IT RAPIDLY BRAKE AGAIN. AT THIS POINT I WAS VERY SCARED, MY KIDS THOUGHT I HIT A ANIMAL. SO I DECIDED TO STOP, BY THE TIME I WAS ABLE TO FIND A ROAD TO PULL OVER ONTO IT REPEATED IT 3 MORE TIMES ONLY GOING ABOUT 10-15 MPH. I HAD THE VAN TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. HE COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM SO WE HAD IT TOWED TO PRIORITY HONDA IN CHESAPEAKE, VA TO HAVE TESTING DONE. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED 24 HRS EARLIER I WAS TRAVELING FROM RICHMOND, VA AND I WOULD HAVE CAUSE A CRASH. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED. DRIVING 45 MILES PER HOUR AND THE BRAKES SUDDENLY WENT ON VERY HARD BUT NOT IN A SKID. EVERY ONE WAS THROWN FORWARD INTO THEIR SEATBELTS. THE CAR BEHIND NEARLY CRASHED INTO US. I PUT 4-WAY FLASHERS ON AND WENT SLOWER - 35-40MPH AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. IT HAPPENED A THIRD TIME GOING SLOWER YET. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AT A STORE AND WHEN WE STARTED OFF AGAIN IT DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. HOW CAN THIS DANGEROUS HONDA MALFUNCTION BE FIXED? THANKS *TR

WHILE MAINTAINING A SPEED OF APPROX. 40 MPH WITH MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT SUDDENLY FELT AS IF SOMEONE SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. THIS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE ON THIS DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THERE WERE NO CODES AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SITUATION. THEY CHECKED THE BRAKING SYSTEM THOROUGHLY BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF MY ISSUE. ONE MONTH LATER (8/17/13), THE SAME "SEVERE UNINTENDED BRAKING" HAPPENED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES WITHIN 1/2-3/4 OF A MILE. EVERY TIME I TRIED TO GO BEYOND THE SPEED, IT SUDDENLY PUT THE BRAKE. I COULD NOT GET THE SPEED TO GO BEYOND 55MPH. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME AND ALSO FOR THE OTHER DRIVERS AROUND ME. I EVENTUALLY PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE KEY OFF TO WAIT FOR ABOUT 5MINUTES AND THEN I STARTED THE CAR. THAT TIME, NO PROBLEM. THE EXACTLY SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED THREE OTHER TIMES RATHER RANDOMLY. EVERY TIME, I HAD TO PULL OVER AND WAIT FOR FEW MINUTES IT RESTART THE CAR. WHEN I MENTIONED IT TO ON THE PHONE TO HONDA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT THE DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR, HE JUST SAID THAT THE RECALL IS FOR PILOT ONLY AND THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE ODYSSEY HAVING THIS ISSUE. CAR BRAKES SPONTANEOUSLY SEVERAL TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE BRAKE LINE WAS CLOGGED. THEY CLEANED IT AND DID SOMETHING TO THE ROTORS, AND I HAD NO TROUBLE FOR A YEAR. THEN TODAY, 7/24/13, IT HAPPENED AGAIN SEVERAL TIMES ON MY WAY HOME. IT WAS REALLY SCARY BECAUSE I WAS GOING ABOUT 45-50 AND THE BRAKES JUST SLAMMED ON ALL BY THEMSELVES! I AM TAKING IT BACK TO DEALER TOMORROW, BUT SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT AGAIN. *TR
ON A RECENT VACATION WE FIRST NOTICED ON MODERATE DOWNHILL GRADES WITH VERY MODERATE BRAKING WHEELS WOULD START TO SHIMMY WITH SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL. WITH A TOTAL RELEASE OF BRAKES, SHIMMY WOULD IMMEDIATELY STOP, AND NO WHEEL VIBRATIONS WOULD BE FELT. BRAKING ON FLAT AREAS OR IN CITY DRIVING NO VIBRATIONS ARE FELT, EVEN WITH FAIRLY HARD BRAKING. DURING OUR TRIP THIS STARTED HAPPENING ON ALMOST EVERY DOWNHILL GRADE MAKING THE CAR VERY HARD TO CONTROL. RETURNED FROM OUR TRIP AND DROVE MOSTLY ON ROADS WHERE WE DO NOT HAVE MANY DOWNHILL GRADES AND DID NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM AGAIN, UNTIL RECENTLY WE TRAVELED ON AN INTERSTATE ROAD FROM A CITY APPROXIMATELY 50 FROM US THAT HAD SEVERAL DOWNHILL GRADES. ON EVERY SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE IF THE BRAKES WERE EVEN APPLIED VERY GENTLY, THE SHAKING AND STEERING WHEEL WOBBLE WOULD START IMMEDIATELY. BUT AGAIN WOULD NOT DO IT ON A LEVEL ROAD. THIS SHAKING AND VIBRATION MAKES THE CAR VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND NOW HAS ONLY 26333 MILES, AND HAS ONLY BEEN SERVICED BY A HONDA DEALER. EVERY TIME THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED FOR SERVICE EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK. THE BRAKES HAVE NEVER BEEN WORKED ON OR HAD ANY REPAIRS OF ANY SORT DONE ON THEM OR ANY RELATED PARTS. IT IS STILL IN COMPLETE FACTORY CONDITION. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND COULD VERY EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, AND I KNOW THAT TAKING IT INTO A HONDA DEALERSHIP THEY WOULD SIMPLY TAKE IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND SAY EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND DO NOTHING. THIS REALLY PARALLELS MANY OF THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE COMPLAINED OF THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. *TR

I DECIDED TO KEEP ON DRIVING TO GET TO THE NEAREST SAFEST PLACE TO PARK AND CALL FOR ASSISTANCE AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES UNTIL I PARKED AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO CALL FOR A RELATIVE ASSISTANCE GETTING BACK HOME BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY THREE CHILDREN AND I DIDN'T WANT TO ENDANGER THEM. MY HUSBAND TOOK THE MINIVAN HOME AND IT DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN. I HAVEN'T DRIVE IT SINCE I'M TERRIFIED IT CAN DO IT AGAIN WHEN I'M DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED AND CAUSE AND ACCIDENT THAT CAN BE FATAL TO MY FAMILY, OTHER DRIVERS AND ME.

THIS COMPLAINT IS ABOUT THE RAYBESTOS'S ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY ROTORS (MODEL #980290) THAT I BROUGHT AT O'REILLY AUTO PART STORE AND INSTALLED ON MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY IN 06/26/2011. LAST WEEK ON 06/23/2013 WHILE INSPECTING THE PULSATION ISSUES, I FOUND FINE CRACKS ON BOTH ROTORS. WITH CURIOSITY I SEARCHED "RAYBESTOS ROTOR CRACKS" OVER THE INTERNET AND I FOUND THE BRAKE ROTOR SAFETY PUBLIC AWARENESS PUBLISHED AT THE RAYBESTOS SITE. BASED ON THE INFORMATION FROM RAYBESTOS, CERTAIN IMPORTED BRAKE ROTORS INCLUDING RAYBESTOS BRAND HAVE THIS ISSUE. I CHECKED THE BOX AND FOUND THE ROTORS WERE MADE IN CHINA. THEIR SITE PROVIDED NHTSA LINK TO FILE COMPLAINT.

I WAS TRAVELING ALONG A WINDY ROAD WHEN MY HONDA VAN STARTED TO BRAKE ALL BY ITSELF. IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS OVER THE NEXT 30 MINUTES. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT PROBABLY HAD TO DO WITH ME BRAKING FREQUENTLY ON THE WINDY ROADS. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER, I WAS TRAVELING IN TOWN, GOING ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR, WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. MY FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR, I WAS GOING ABOUT 35-40 MPH AND THE CAR STARTED BRAKING ALL BY ITSELF. IT WAS 2012 WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID THEY HAD TO RESET A SENSOR THAT HAD TO DO WITH THE VEHICLE STABILITY SYSTEM. IT HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE THEN, BUT HONESTLY, I THINK ABOUT IT CONSTANTLY, WONDERING IF IT'LL HAPPEN AGAIN. I FELT EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
THE REAR RIGHT BRAKE LOCKED UP OVER NIGHT AND DESTROYED THE ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THE REAR WHEEL. THE ENTIRE BRAKES WERE REPLACED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR EARLIER ON ALL 4 WHEELS SO THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A 1 YEAR OLD BRAKING SYSTEM. DEALER SAID IT MUST HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE SENSOR THAT DID NOT LET GO OF THE REAR BRAKE AND IT INSTANTANEOUSLY DESTROYED THE REAR WHEEL BRAKE. THE GRINDING SOUND WAS VERY LOUD AS THE BRAKE DID NOT LET GO AND DESTROYED THE ONE YEAR OLD ROTOR. I RECALL READING ABOUT A RECALL FROM HONDA IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2013 (RIGHT AFTER MY INCIDENT) ON OTHER HONDA VEHICLES AND ALSO SOME ODYSSEY OVERSEAS BUT NOT IN USA. I HAVE HAD 2 BRAKE RECALLS ON MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. DURING MY LAST VISIT TO A HONDA AUTO CENTER THEY CHANGED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND UPON A "VISUAL" INSPECTION ADVISED ME THAT MY BRAKE PADS WERE AT 3MM EACH WHICH IS SUFFICIENT. I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS WAS WRONG BECAUSE MY CAR MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT I NEEDED NEW BRAKE PADS. I BELIEVE THAT THE 2 RECALLS FOR DIFFERENT BRAKE ISSUES HAVE COMPROMISED MY BRAKE PERFORMANCE AND PREMATURELY DETERIORATED MY BRAKES. I ALSO FEEL THAT IT IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN TO TELL SOMEONE THAT THEIR BRAKES ARE FINE WHEN THEY ARE CLEARLY NOT! *TR
DRIVING ON A CLEAR, DRY DAY AT 45-50 MPH, THE CAR SELF-BRAKES CAUSING WHIPLASH. UNPREDICTABLE WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN 4 YEARS. HONDA DEALER REPLACED SENSOR LAST TIME ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO. THIS TIME IT HAPPENED THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE IT SO THEY COULD NOT HELP ME. THEY STATED THEY CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THIS HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE. EVER. MY CHILDREN AND MYSELF COULD BE KILLED. *TR

I TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND DROVE 45 MILES TO MY HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. IN FEBRUARY, 2012, I MADE A RIGHT TURN ASCENDING A HIGHWAY RAMP AT ABOUT 25MPH. THE BRAKES OPERATED ON THEIR OWN. AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED OFF THE MOTOR AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. THIS TIME I DROVE IT 100 MILES TO THE PLACE WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND LEFT IT THERE (IT WAS A SATURDAY NIGHT). NEITHER THE AGENCY WHERE I PURCHASED IT NOR THE HONDA AGENCY 60 MILES FROM MY HOME COULD FIND A PROBLEM. IN APRIL, 2012 THE BRAKES OPERATED ON THEIR OWN AFTER MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN. I WAS GOING 20-25MPH. I PULLED OVER, TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN. AGAIN, NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE WRONG. IT HAPPENED AGAIN IN JUNE, 2012 AND NOTHING WAS FOUND TO BE WRONG. IN NOVEMBER, 2012 IT BRAKED AGAIN. I LEFT THE MOTOR RUNNING AND CALLED THE PLACE WHERE I PURCHASED IT. THEY CAME AND DROVE IT TO THEIR SHOP (IT TRIED TO BRAKE 5 TIMES DURING THE 10 MILE DRIVE BUT DID NOT SUCCEED). A STEERING ANGLE SENSOR WAS REPLACED PER THE CODES. MARCH, 2013, 250 MILES FROM HOME IT DID IT AGAIN. I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND DROVE 250 MILES HOME. HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE ISN'T A "HISTORY", BUT PILOTS AND ACURAS HAD A RECALL IN MARCH, 2013 FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE. ON 12/13/2010, I TOOK CAR INTO HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR A ROTATION/OIL CHANGE AND TO CHECK THE BRAKES. AGAIN, THERE WAS AIR IN THE BRAKE LINE. ON JULY 12, 2010, I TOOK OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY) MEL RAPTON HONDA FOR THE BRAKE RECALL REQUESTED BY HONDA AMERICA. I WAS CALLED AT 12:20 P.M. BY YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS READY TO BE PICKED UP. AT 2:00 P.M., I ARRIVED, PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED TO MAITA TOYOTA TO PICK UP MY HUSBAND WHERE HE WAS HAVING OUR TOYOTA SERVICED. AS I APPROACHED THE VERY FIRST STOP LIGHT AT FULTON AND THE ENTRANCE TO I-80, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WITH MY FOOT PRESSED COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. I RAN THE STOP LIGHT, AND WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT I DID NOT HIT ANYONE. AT THE SECOND LIGHT I CAME UPON AT AUBURN AND FULTON WAS GREEN AND I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I ONCE AGAIN COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND HIT THE CONCRETE PARKING BARRIER, SCRATCHING THE FRONT RIGHT BUMPER. I PROMPTLY CALLED MY HUSBAND AND INFORMED HIM I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS NOT SURE WHAT TO DO SINCE MY ASSUMPTION WAS THE BRAKES WERE FULLY INSPECTED AND FUNCTIONAL PRIOR TO ME LEAVING MEL RAPTON HONDA. I CALLED BACK TO MEL RAPTON SERVICE DEPARTMENT, LEAVING A MESSAGE FOR THE SERVICE ADVISOR ANTHONY MOTLEY THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT WITH MY BRAKES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED ME BACK ASKING THAT I DRIVE THE CAR BACK TO MEL RAPTON, EVEN THOUGH I STATED I BELIEVED THAT I HAD NO FUNCTIONAL BRAKES BEYOND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I CAUIOUSLY DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK, I HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKES TWICE IN ORDER STOP THE VEHICLE AND AVOID RUNNING ANY MORE RED LIGHTS OR HITTING OTHER VEHICLES. I WAS SHOCKED THAT YOUR SERVICE ADVISOR SUGGESTED THAT I DRIVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THERE WAS SOME PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VSA MODULATOR LIGHT CAME ON AS I DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK. THEY SAID THEY "REPAIRED" THE VSA AND BRAKES, BUT NEVER THE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, MEL RAPTON REFUSES TO RESPOND TO REQUESTS FOR REPAIRS AND HONDA AMERICA ISN'T HELPING. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING ABOUT 45 MPH, THE BRAKES SUDDENLY SLAMMED ON WHILE FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR CAME TO A DEAD STOP THEN STARTED GOING AGAIN. THERE WAS NO TIME TO REACT AND THINGS FLEW FORWARD IN THE CAR. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES.
BRAKES ACTIVATING ON THEIR OWN. IN EARLY 2010 (AROUND FEBRUARY/MARCH), THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED FOR THE FIRST TIME. MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING WITH OUR THREE KIDS AND THE BRAKES ACTIVATED WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH. SHE PULLED OVER TO A GAS STATION. I WAS ABOUT 1 MILE BEHIND HER IN MY VEHICLE AND SHE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I PULLED OVER AT THE GAS STATION AND HAD MY WIFE AND KIDS SWITCH CARS WITH ME. MY WIFE NEVER TURNED THE ENGINE OFF WHEN SHE STOPPED. I CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD AND THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO ACTIVATE 3 OR 4 MORE TIMES AS A DROVE THE VAN TO THE CLOSEST HONDA DEALER (ONLY ABOUT 2 MILES FROM WHERE THE INCIDENT FIRST OCCURRED). MANY MONTHS HAVE GONE BY AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON 11/8/2010 AND 11/16/2010. ON THE 11/8/2010 INCIDENT, THE BRAKES ACTIVATED AND THE VSA INDICATOR FLICKERED AND THEN STAYED ON. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VAN HOME. I DROVE THE VAN TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY - NO INCIDENT. THE DEALER REPORTED 8 CODES INDICATED WHEN HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER, BUT ALL CHECKED OUT OK. HAPPENED AGAIN ON 11/16 AND NO VSA LIGHT - DEALER INDICATED NO CODES INDICATED WHEN HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER. DEALER HAS HAD THE VAN SINCE 11/16/2010 - WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THE DEALER SAYS NO PROBLEM CAN BE FOUND AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
BRAKE DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. IT'S TAKES TOO LONG FOR RESPONSE, SOFT BRAKE AND INCONSISTENT. *TR
BRAKE IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY EVEN DEALER HAS BEEN CHANGED ABS MODULE TWICE. THE LAST TIME IN SERVICE TO SEAL THE AIR LEAKED INTO ABS MODULE AS RECALL BUT IT WON'T HELP. BRAKE IS STILL SOFT AND NOT STOP AS DRIVER DESIRED. THIS VAN HAS BEEN IN 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND 5TH IN JOHN EAGLE HONDA IN HOUSTON TX. DEALER COULDN'T FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY (42,000 MILES) THE BRAKES AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED. ON OCTOBER 24, 2010, MY HUSBAND AND I HAD JUST TAKEN OFF ON THE HIGHWAY, AND HAD REACHED APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN I THOUGHT HE HAD SLAMMED ON BRAKES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. HE SAID THEY DID IT ON THEIR OWN. WE DROVE ANOTHER 1/2 MILE TO A GAS STATION AND IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. ONCE WE PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION HE PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL A FEW TIMES, AND CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE EMERGENCY BREAK WASN'T ON, OR THAT THE CAR DIDN'T SLIP OUT OF GEAR. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE, SO WE VENTURED THE ADDITIONAL 5 MILES TO HOME WITH NO ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS. TODAY IS SUNDAY, SO I WILL BE TAKING THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. *TR
THE BRAKES ON MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY, HAVE BEEN CHECKED THREE (3) TIMES BY THE DEALER. BUT THE PROBLEM OF NOT STOPPING IN A SAFE TIME AND THE GRINDING NOISE MADE BY THEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. THE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND SOMETIMES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND STILL NOT STOPPING IN TIME FOR THE RED LIGHT. THIS STILL OCCURS DAILY. I HAVE HAD THE RECALL DONE FOR THE AIR IN THE BRAKE LINE BUT NOTHING HELPED, I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES LOOKED AT AND THE HONDA DEALER STATED "THEY ARE JUST FINE". *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A WALL. HE WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. PRIOR TO THE CRASH, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V098000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 21,500.
2007 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELS TOO FAR (WHEN YOU FIRST GET INTO THE ODYSSEY AND PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT WILL GO TO THE FLOOR) AND IT IS SOFT/MUSHY. [THIS ISSUE WAS PRESENT BEFORE THE RECALL EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND IS STILL AN ISSUE SINCE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS MADE.] THIS BECOMES AN ISSUE WHEN I DRIVE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE WHICH HAS A "NORMAL" HARD BRAKE PEDAL AND REQUIRES MUCH MORE FORCE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I GET USED TO THE SOFT/MUSHY PEDAL AND DON'T REACT SOON ENOUGH TO STOP WHAT I CALL "NORMAL" BRAKE PEDAL IN OTHER VEHICLES. I VOTE FOR A STANDARD BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE REQUIREMENT SO WHEN A PERSON DRIVES DIFFERENT VEHICLES THERE ISN'T THE HAZARD OF NOT PRESSING DOWN HARD ENOUGH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAUSE ONE GETS USED TO A VERY SOFT PEDAL IN THE HONDA ODYSSEY. *TR
AT 21,000 MI. FRONT VIBRATION WHEN BRAKES APPLIED WHILE DRIVING. TOLD BRAKE ROTOR WAS WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE TURNED. HAD THE WORK DONE. AT 30194MI NOTICED FRONT VIBRATION AGAIN AT 65MPH BREAKING. THIS OCCURRED AFTER THE SOFT BRAKE RECALL WAS PERFORMED. I WAS TOLD AGAIN THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE TURNED AGAIN. TOLD MY DRIVING WAS THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE. VAN IS USED TO DRIVE 1.5 MILES TO AND FROM WORK AND HIGHWAY DRIVING IN NON-RUSH HOUR TIMES. WAS TOLD THE 1.5 MI. DRIVE EACH DAY WAS CONSIDERED HARD DRIVING BY HONDA AND MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF ROTOR WARP. *TR
2007 HONDA ODYSSEY SOFT BRAKES RECALL HAS BEEN DONE TWICE ABOUT 1000 MILES LATER SOFT AND SQUISHY AGAIN DID NHTSA HAVE ANY REVIEW ON LONG TERM "FIX" THAT HAS NOT WORKED. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN LOOKED AT BY HONDA SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR AND HYANNIS HONDA HAS SAID ALL WAS NORMAL ... NO THE BRAKES REALLY DO NOT WORK WORTH A [XXX]. I OWN A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L. LAST MAY, I RECEIVED TWO SEPARATE RECALL NOTICES FOR PCM UPDATE FOR LOCK-UP CLUTCH FUNCTION AND FOR LOW AND SOFT BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WAS A DELAY IN TAKING MY VAN TO A DEALER BECAUSE I WAS ON A MILITARY DEPLOYMENT. MY DEPLOYMENT ENDED LAST MONTH AND THAT'S WHEN I TOOK MY VAN TO GET SERVICE (RECALLS). A MONTH HAD PAST SINCE I TOOK MY VAN FOR THE RECALL BUT THE BREAK PROBLEM STILL PERSIST AND I THINK IT'S GETTING WORST. THE BREAKS IS VERY SOFT AND THE PEDAL IS VERY LOW WHEN I STEP ON IT. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUMP MY BRAKES TWICE JUST TO FEEL THE BRAKE. I SENT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE A LETTER REQUESTING ANOTHER AUTHORIZATION TO HAVE MY BRAKES CHECK AND SERVICE AGAIN. HONDA'S SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM DID NOT WORK. THE HONDA DEALER BLED, SEAL AND CAP THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON MY VAN BUT IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE LOOK AT AGAIN BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR LOSE THEIR LIVES. *TR
ON MARCH 2010 I FIRST TOOK THE CAR INTO DEALER (BEAVERTON HONDA) TO INDICATE THAT WHENEVER I APPLY BRAKES GOING SLOWER THAN 25MPH THERE IS A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN BACK AT THE SAME DEALER FOR SAME ISSUE NOW FOR THE 6TH TIME. AND ON LAST FRIDAY (SEP. 2010) WHEN I WENT FOR A TEST DRIVE WITH TECHNICIAN I WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE AND HE SAID HE KNEW OF THE ISSUE AND LIKELY TO BE COMING FROM REAR. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THEY SAID THAT THEY ADJUSTED THE PARKING BRAKE AS PER TECH LINE SERVICE ARTICLE FROM JUNE 2009 BUT THE NOISE WAS STILL THERE. HENCE HONDA TECH LINED INFORMED THE DEALER THAT IT'S A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY ARE WORKING ON IT AND IF THERE IS A FIX THEY WILL NOTIFY ME. UNFORTUNATELY, WHATEVER THEY DID ON FRIDAY MADE IT 10X WORSE AS NOW IT'S HAPPENING 90-95% OF THE TIME. EVEN WHEN I AM LET GO OF THE BRAKES FROM STOP AND THEN APPLY THE BRAKES GOING 1-2MPS IT MAKES THAT AWFUL NOISE. SO I WENT BACK TO THE DEAR TODAY. THEY JUST CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THEY THINK THAT REPLACING THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND THE FRONT ROTORS SHOULD FIX IT BUT NO GUARANTEES SINCE HONDA TECH LINE SAYS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM. THE SAME DEALER ABOUT A MOTH AND HALF AGO (6/23/2010) TOLD ME THAT REPLACING ALL FRONT/BACK BREAK PADS WILL FIX THE ISSUE BUT IT DIDN'T. SO NOW WITHIN 1.5 MONTHS THEY WANT TO REPLACE THE FRONT BREAK PADS ALONG WITH THE FRONT ROTORS AND THEY ARE NOT GUARANTEEING IT WILL FIX THE ISSUE. I HAVE CALLED AMERICAN HONDA ON OPENED A CASE AS THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MY WIFE SAYS SHE WON'T DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL IT'S FIXED. THIS ISSUE STARTED AFTER THEY APPLIED THE SAFETY RECALL ON THE 2007 ODYSSEY REGARDING "SOFT BRAKES". JUST BEFORE THEY APPLIED THAT SAFETY RECALL THE DEALER HAD ALSO FOUND MY FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WERE PREMATURELY WRAPPED AND RESURFACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. THUS, IT SEEMS THERE IS A CONTINUED ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL YEAR OF HONDA ODYSSEY. *TR

MY BRAKES ON MY HONDA ODYSSEY 2007 VAN FAILED LAST WEEK. THE VAN HAS ONLY 13K MILES ON IT. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP (CAPITOL HONDA, SAN JOSE, CA) TOLD ME THAT THE POWER BOOSTER ON THE BRAKES WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY SAID IT WAS VERY RARE. LAST MONTH, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE TO HAVE THE VAN SERVICED TO PREVENT A BRAKE PROBLEM CALLED "SOFT BRAKE." I TOOK IT IN AND SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, THE BRAKES SEEMED TO GIVE WAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH CHILDREN INSIDE. I COULD HEAR A HISSING SOUND AND THE BRAKE FELT SPONGY. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I HAD "HARD BRAKE," NOT "SOFT BRAKE." THE DEALERSHIP CALLED HONDA AND HONDA AUTHORIZED A "ONE-TIME COMPLIMENTARY" FIX. I WRITE THIS IN THE HOPES OF PREVENTING A TRAGEDY AS THESE VANS ARE MOSTLY FAMILY VEHICLES--MULTIPLE CHILDREN ON BOARD. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER SIX TIMES FOR BRAKE ISSUES. ON MAY 7, 2009 THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, AND CONSEQUENTLY SHE HAD AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, THE CLUTCH SHUDDERED WHEN DRIVING DOWN A HILL, IT NOT ONLY SHUDDERED, BUT IT MADE THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHAKE AND RATTLE AS IF IT WERE FALLING APART.

THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT STATED HE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK ON 6/5/10 AFTER THE REPAIR HAD BEEN PERFORMED AND ADVISED THEM THAT THE BRAKE REPAIR DID NOT WORK. VEHICLE OWNER REPORTED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THERE IS A LACK OF RESPONSE. BRAKING TIME AND DISTANCE BECAME SIGNIFICANTLY LONGER THAN NORMAL. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ACCIDENT ON 11/30/2009, THE VEHICLE OWNER REPORTED THAT THE VEHICLE BRAKES HAD FAILED TO THE AUTO INSURANCE CARRIER, AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A DIAGNOSIS. UPON ARRIVING AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE BRAKING ISSUE, AND EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY OFFERED TO COVER THE REPAIR AT 90% AND INSTRUCTED THE OWNER TO COLLECT THE REMAINING 10% OF THE COST DIRECTLY FROM HONDA. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS LEAKING AIR INTO THE BRAKE SYSTEM. ALL OTHER BRAKING COMPONENTS WERE OPERATIONAL. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE ABS MODULE, AND BLED THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE OLD PARTS WERE DISPOSED OF BY THE DEALERSHIP PRIOR TO INSURANCE CARRIER BEING AWARE OF ISSUE. BOTH TIMES IT WAS IN CONDITIONS WHERE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE (PRESUMABLY) ENGAGED: ONCE COMING TO STOP ON A VERY WET STREET IN RAIN, AND THE SECOND ON A VERY SNOWY, POOR TRACTION STREET. BOTH TIMES I WAS BRAKING HARDER THAN USUAL WHILE DECELERATING TO COME UP TO A STOP SIGN/LIGHT AND THE ABS ENGAGED. THE INITIAL SLOWING WAS FINE, NO SLIPPING, BUT AS I DECELERATED THROUGH ABOUT 3-5 MPH, THE BRAKES REFUSED TO WORK. I PRESSED THE PEDAL HARDER BUT THE BRAKES WOULD NO LONGER ENGAGE. I WAS MOVING VERY SLOWLY, BUT UNABLE TO STOP (AND THIS WAS NOT DUE TO ROAD SURFACE, IT WAS DUE TO THE BRAKES REFUSING TO ENGAGE). THE FIRST TIME I NARROWLY AVOIDED HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE SECOND TIME I JUST CONTINUED FORWARD HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. I AM A COMMERCIAL PILOT AND IT FELT LIKE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES HAD RELEASED, AND THEN REFUSED TO RE-ENGAGE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY BRAKE PEDAL PUSHES DOWN NEARLY TO THE FLOOR WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED HARD. I FIRST NOTICED THIS A FEW WEEKS AGO WHEN I WAS WAITING FOR TRAFFIC AS I WAS ENTERING THE STREET FROM A PARKING LOT. MY FOOT WAS PRESSING DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT IT WAS ALSO NOT DIRECTLY ON THE PEDAL. MY FOOT WAS OFF TO THE RIGHT. AS THE PEDAL PRESSED DOWN HARDER, THE SAME BRAKING FOOT WAS HITTING THE THROTTLE PEDAL THUS ACCELERATING THE ENGINE. THE CAR BRAKES FINE IN NORMAL TRAFFIC AND OPERATION. I AM FEARFUL THAT IF I OR SOMEONE ELSE USING THE CAR WOULD MAKE A PANIC STOP AND NOT HAVE THEIR FOOT DIRECTLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THAT THEY COULD ACTUALLY PUSH THE THROTTLE MAKING THE CAR ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF STOP. I SHOWED THE SITUATION TO THE DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE CAR AND IT WAS THEIR OPINION THAT ALL IS NORMAL AND THAT OTHER CARS LIKE MINE DO THE SAME THING. I VISITED ANOTHER DEALER AND THEY TOO SAID THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NORMAL. *TR

THE MECHANIC DROVE ANOTHER ODYSSEY AND FOUND IT TO BE THE SAME. NOTE THAT IF MY FOOT WAS OFF TO THE RIGHT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL,WHEN PUSHED HARD THAT IT WOULD HIT THE ACCELERATOR ALSO WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP. 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS ONGOING BRAKE PEDAL PROBLEMS. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND IT WOULD DROP FROM UNDER HER FEET. THE DEALER BLED THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE REAR HATCH DID NOT STAY UP ON ITS OWN. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STRUTS ON THE HATCH. *JB
OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY EXPERIENCED REAR BRAKE FAILURE AT 2,700 MILES DUE TO RUST BUILD-UP ON THE ROTORS. THEY WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE REAR ROTORS AGAIN FAILED AT 17,820 MILES AND HAD TO BE RESURFACED. WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND THE POTENTIAL FOR CONTINUED FAILURE CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION. *TR
THE CAR WILL NOT STOP UNLESS THE DRIVER EXERT A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALERSHIP ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND STATED THAT IS THE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR FOR THE REMAINING VISITS. HONDA POSTED A FIX ON JANUARY 14, 2009 ON SERVICE BULLETIN 07-045. THE FIX SHOULD BE A RECALL BECAUSE IT REDUCES THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY AND BEGAN STOPPING AS I APPROACHED AN ALREADY STOPPED VEHICLE. I BEGAN MY STOP EARLY TO MAKE SURE I HAD ENOUGH SPACE TO STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THIS VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS FELT SOFT/SPONGY. I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE MINI VAN SLOWED DOWN BUT THE PEDAL CONTINUED TO GO TO THE FLOOR. THE MINI VAN HAS ABS AND SO I CONTINUED TO PRESS HARDER. THE PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR WAS ROLLING AS IF THE PEDAL WAS LIGHTLY DEPRESSED. THEN THE MINI VAN ROLLED AS IF THE BRAKES WERE NOT ON AT ALL. I HAD TO RELEASE THE PEDAL AND DEPRESS IT AGAIN. AT THIS TIME I HAD TO STEER THE MINI VAN TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME TO AVOID HITTING IT. AFTER THAT EVENT I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR HOME AND TO THE DEALER. AFTER TELLING MY WIFE ABOUT THE EVENT SHE SAID THAT SHE THOUGHT IT HAD HAPPENED TO HER BEFORE. THE DEALER CHECKED THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING. THEY CALLED HONDA AND HONDA HAD THEM REPLACE THE ABS MODULATOR AND BLEED THE SYSTEM. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY INCIDENT AND I COULD ONLY HOPE THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED. I DO FEAR FOR OTHERS WITH THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS A FAMILY VEHICLE AND AFTER AN INTERNET SEARCH THIS PROBLEM DOES SEEM TO HAPPEN OFTEN. *TR
JANUARY 5TH, 2009 I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT THAT I BELIEVE WAS DIRECTLY LINKED TO THE BRAKE ISSUE WITH MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED THE "SOFT AND MUSHY" BRAKES TO THIS SITE AND TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES. ON THE EVENING OF THE ACCIDENT, I SHOULD HAVE HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP AFTER THE PANIC STOP OF A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, DUE TO ANOTHER TURNING DRIVER. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT STOP THE VAN IN TIME. THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WHERE I REAR-ENDED THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO HER CAR AND MINE WITH MY AIRBAG DEPLOYING. THE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES HAS BEEN ONE THAT I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT TO MULTIPLE HONDA DEALERS AND THEY HAVE IGNORED, ALWAYS SAYING THAT THEY WERE WITHIN NORMAL LIMITS. I HAVE DRIVEN VANS FOR 17 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THE BRAKING PROBLEMS WITH ANY OTHERS. THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THIS ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN OTHER THAN SOFT AND WEAK BRAKES THAT INTERMITTENTLY DO NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. WE ARE CONTACTING THE HONDA BODY SHOP THAT HAS THE VAN AND MAKING SURE THEY ARE DOING A COMPLETE INSPECTION ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM AGAIN. THIS IS TO PROMPT AN INVESTIGATE OF 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAKE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD TO BRING OUR 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY BACK TO THE DEAL FOR REPAIR BECAUSE OF BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY VERY SOFT. MY ODYSSEY HAS 6000 MILES ON THIS ONLY AND I BRING IT BACK THREE TIMES ALREADY. I TRULY FEEL THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS NOT SAFE EVEN AFTER THE THIRD TIME. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH A VERY SLIGHT DOWNHILL GRADE I APPLIED THE BRAKES, WHICH SEEMED TO HAVE LITTLE EFFECT ON STOPPING THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY. I PUSHED VERY HARD ONTO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STOPPED BEFORE HITTING THE SUV PARKED IN FRONT OF ME. ONLY THEN DID I HEAR THAT THE MOTOR WAS REVVED UP. UPON RELEASING THE BRAKES THE MOTOR RETURNED BACK TO IDLE. I, AT THAT POINT, REALIZED THAT I WAS INADVERTENTLY PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, WITH THE SAME FOOT SIMULTANEOUSLY (RIGHT FOOT). I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 29 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE. UPON DOING MY OWN INVESTIGATING, I REALIZED THAT WITH THE PROXIMITY OF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE ACCELERATOR IT WAS POSSIBLE TO BRIDGE THE DISTANCE AND APPLY BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. MORE IMPORTANTLY, I DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL EASILY ALLOWED THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PASS THE ACCELERATOR IDLE POSITION, ESPECIALLY WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES WITH MORE FORCE. I LOOKED AT MY OTHER CARS AND NONE OF THEM WOULD EVER ALLOW THIS SITUATION TO HAPPEN, THE BRAKE PEDAL NEVER PASSES THE ACCELERATOR IDLE POSITION. I NOW UNDERSTOOD WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO ME AND FEEL THAT IT IS A DANGEROUS SAFETY DEFECT. THE MORE YOU PUSH ON THE BRAKES TO STOP THE MORE YOU COULD UNKNOWINGLY PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL GOES HALFWAY TO FLOOR BEFORE IT STARTS SLOWING DOWN. SERVICE MANAGER AT RED RIVER HONDA IN DENISON,TX SAID THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS BYPASSING. THEY REPLACED IT TWICE WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. I WAS THEN TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT HONDAS SEEMED TO HAVE WEAK BRAKES. *TR

HAS BEEN TO DEALER AND THEY SAY HONDA DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BRAKE PROBLEMS DUE TO ABS AND MASTER CYLINDER ISSUES, AND ALSO DUE TO POOR STOCK BRAKE PADS. 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN. BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN GOING ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AFTER 10,000 MILES. DEALER HAS REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND MODULE (TWICE), AS WELL AS BLEEDING THE LINES OVER 4 ATTEMPTS TO FIX. NOW THEY ARE BEGINNING TO EXPLAIN THAT THIS IS NORMAL BEHAVIOR, EVEN THOUGH THE CHANGE WAS SUDDEN AND DRAMATIC AND THE VEHICLE IS OBVIOUSLY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
BRAKES WITH SOFT PEDAL AND FRONT NOISE. PROBLEM WAS FIRST TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 02-02-08. THROUGH RESEARCH FROM CONTACTS AT HONDA I FOUND OUT THAT THEY ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH A PROPORTIONING VALVE OR ABS MODULATOR. THE FLAW IS ALLOWING AIR TO GET INTO THE BRAKE LINES CAUSING SOFT PEDAL AND DECREASED PERFORMANCE. IT APPEARS THAT MOST OF THE AIR IN THE LINES IS AFFECTING THE REAR BRAKES PERFORMANCE. I'M EXPERIENCING VERY HOT FRONT BRAKES AND I FEEL THIS IS CAUSING GLAZING AND THE NOISE. I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AROUND THE 4,000 MILE RANGE. HONDA HAS A TECHNICAL BULLETIN IN THEIR SYSTEM WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR BLEEDING THE SYSTEM IN AN ATTEMPT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY ARE ALSO RECOMMENDING THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS VALVE/UNIT ALSO. IN MY CASE, I'M STILL EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH SOFT BRAKE PEDAL AND FRONT BRAKE NOISE. I HAVE FILED A 'LEMON LAW" CLAIM FOR MY VEHICLE WITH THE BBB AND HONDA. I CAN PROVIDE COPIES OF THESE TECHNICAL BULLETINS UPON REQUEST. I HAVE ALSO DONE A "GOOGLE" SEARCH FOR HONDA BRAKE PROBLEMS AND I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHERS WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUES ON THE POSTINGS I FOUND. *TR
ON 12/26/07, I HAD A VERY BAD ACCIDENT HITTING 2 CARS AND ALL OF THE AIR BAGS IN OUR NEW 07 HONDA ODYSSEY DEPLOYED. MY WIFE WAS IN THE CAR, I WAS DRIVING AND WE WERE EXITING THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND TURNED ONTO THE OFF RAMP WHEN THE BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED; I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES REPEATEDLY AND THEY WERE SO SOFT THEY WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR BOARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE RAMP WAS ABOUT 100 YARDS LONG, SO WE WOULD HAVE HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO STOP IF THE BRAKES WORKED. THE RAMP WAS UPHILL AND BECAUSE THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT GO OFF, THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND WE WERE GOING FASTER AND FASTER UP THE OFF RAMP. WE HAD NO PREVIOUS WARNING AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES PRIOR. AT THE TOP OF THE RAMP WAS A LIGHT THAT STOPPED TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD, WE WERE THE FIRST OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE RAMP AND BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP, WE REACHED THE LIGHT (GREEN) FOR US, CROSSED OVER A MEDIAN AND HIT TWO CARS ON OTHER SIDE WAITING FOR LIGHT TO CHANGE AND CRASHED. I COULD NOT TURN DUE TO THE SPEED AND WE WOULD HAVE ROLLED IF I DID. EVERY AIR BAG IN OUR ODY DEPLOYED, THE SEAT BELTS HELD US BACK AND FORTUNATELY WE WERE NOT HURT. DRIVER OF ONE OF THE CARS WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL; UNSURE OF HER INJURIES. AFTER 7 MONTHS OF OUR CAR BEING REPAIRED, THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A HONDA DEALER WHO FINALLY TESTED THE CAR AND BRAKES AND DETERMINED THAT THE ABS/VSA MODULATOR CIRCUIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND BRAKE LINES HAD AIR IN THEM. THEY REPLACED THE ASSEMBLY, BLED THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. THERE IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE 2007 ODYSSEY BRAKES. WE HAD TAKEN THE CAR INTO DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE AND CHECKUP JUST 2 DAYS BEFORE ACCIDENT HAPPENED. OUR BRAKES WENT OUT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING WHATSOEVER -- WE OR SOMEONE ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, AS THE ACCIDENT WAS BAD. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, RATHER THAN BEING TOTALED AT TIME OF ACCIDENT. *TR
SOFT BRAKES. I HAVE HAD TO DEALER THREE TIMES. #1. REPLACED BRAKE CYLINDER BRAKES WERE STILL SOFT. #2 REPLACED ANTI LOCK BRAKE SENSOR. STILL SOFT. #3 TOLD THAT HONDA KNEW OF THIS AND I WAS ON A LIST SO WHEN THEY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG I WOULD BE CONTACTED. BRAKES ARE STILL SOFT. BRAKES ARE TOO SOFT/MUSHY. BRAKES DON'T WORK PROPERLY MOST OF THE TIME. IT TAKES INCREASING PRESSURE TO STOP VEHICLE. SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD AFTER IT STOPS WHICH CAUSES YOU TO BE OUT IN INTERSECTIONS, PAST STOP SIGNS AND POSSIBLY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. ON FRIDAY JUNE 6, 08 THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN, THIS TIME AT 60-65 MPH. ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVING TOO FAST SWERVING IN & OUT OF TRAFFIC PULLED IN FRONT OF ME THAT REQUIRED ME TO BRAKE IN ORDER TO AVOID ANOTHER ACCIDENT. WHEN PRESSURE APPLIED THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN UNTIL BRAKE PEDAL NEARLY TOUCHED THE FLOOR. W/ SOME GREAT DEFENSIVE DRIVING AN ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED. A RECENT TEST DRIVE BY THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE BRAKES PROBLEM. UPON TAKING THE KEYS BACK, I HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL NEARLY TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RETURNED TO THE SERVICE MGR TO HAVE HIM GO ON A TEST DRIVE W/ ME. HE REFUSED. I ASKED HIM 4X'S TO PLEASE TEST DRIVE IT WITH ME DRIVING. HE SAID THAT HE DROVE THE VEHICLE, THE DISTRICT SOMEBODY DROVE THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS A TECHNICIAN. HE AGAIN STATED NOTHING WRONG W/ BRAKES. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION : 10DPSM/SM DROVE VEHICLE TESTING BRAKES. COMPETED PANIC STOPS AT 40 MPH, 20 MPH. BRAKES OPERATED AS DESIGNED. TECH DROVE VEHICLE WHILE TESTING BRAKES AND PEDAL STIFFNESS. PANIC STOPS AT 10, 20, 30, 40 & 45 MPH. SWERVE SIDE TO SIDE TO TEST VSA AS WELL. ALL SYSTEMS OPERATE AS DESIGNED. I WANT TO NOTE THAT ONLY 11.5 MILES WERE PUT ON THE VAN DURING THEIR "TEST" OF IT .THEY DID NOT TEST IT UNDER MY NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. I DON'T FEEL THE VEHICLE WAS ADEQUATELY TEST DRIVEN. THE BRAKES WILL WORK OFF AN ON, BUT THE LONGER IT IS DRIVEN AND THE MORE THE BRAKES ARE USED DURING THAT DRIVE, THE LESS RELIABLE THEY BECOME. HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE MAY BE PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES ON THEIR 2007 MODEL VANS DESPITE ALL THE INFO SENT TO THEM FROM THE NHSTA SITE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP, I BECAME INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. OVER THE RECENT WEEKS I THOUGHT IT WAS TAKING LONGER TO STOP MY VAN, BUT HAD MY VAN IN FOR SERVICE THE WEEK BEFORE. I WAS ASSURE THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND ALL FLUID LEVELS WERE CORRECT. ***NOTE: ON MY FIRST SERVICE VISIT THE SERVICE ADVISER TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD NOT BE CONCERNED ABOUT BRAKE FLUID LEVELS THAT THE VAN WOULD NOTIFY ME WHEN IT WAS TIME TO REPLACE THE BREAKS AND THAT THE VAN WAS DESIGNED TO DO SO. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. I COULD NOT EXPLAIN THE ACCIDENT AND THE OFFICER COAXED ME IN TO SAYING THAT I HAD BEEN DISTRACTED. I WAS IN SHOCK. MY SON WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME AND I COULD NOT THINK MUCH OF ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN WHETHER HE WAS SAFE. I BELIEVE I HAD COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THEN HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. EVER SINCE THE ACCIDENT I HAVE CONTINUED TO NOTICE THAT I MUST PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AT TIMES TO STOP THE VAN AND OTHER TIMES I DON'T IN NORMAL DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCES. ALL ALONG I HAD BELIEVED THE DEALERSHIP THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE WITH MY VEHICLE. NOW I HAVE DAMAGES TO PAY AND A TICKET I AM FACING AS A RESULT OF WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE BREAK FAILURE. 1. AT 60 MPH ON DRY SURFACE HWY, HAD TO STOP IN 200'. APPLYING NORMAL PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL, I REALIZED THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP IN TIME, SO GRADUALLY APPLIED MORE PRESSURE, WHICH WAS INSUFFICIENT TO STOP UNTIL HALF WAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. TRAFFIC WAS NOT A FACTOR. I APPLIED MORE THAN ENOUGH PRESSURE TO STOP AND THE CAR DID NOT. IT IS MY WIFE'S CAR, AND I'M VERY WORRIED, NOT KNOWING IF THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT OR HOW THE CAR REACTS IN THIS SITUATION. 2. THIS SITUATION HAS NOT PRESENTED ITSELF OTHER THAT THIS TIME. 3. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED TWICE WITHIN SIX MONTHS. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, IT SKIPS FROM FIRST TO THIRD GEAR, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LUNGE FORWARD. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL EXTENDS ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY. AS A RESULT, THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS INCREASED. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE ROTOR, WHICH DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500.
BRAKES THAT ARE VERY SOFT AND A HAZARD TO DRIVING. BRAKE ROTORS THAT NEED RESURFACING AT 300 MILES AND 15,000 MILES. DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALL OF THE ODYSSEY'S HAVE A PROBLEM WITH SOFT BRAKES AND ROTORS THAT WEAR OUT TOO FAST. *TR
I AM A MECHANIC AT A SCHOOL DISTRICT AND WE HAVE PURCHASED 3 2007 ODYSSEY VANS. WE ARE EXPERIENCING SOFT BRAKES ON ALL THREE VANS. ONE OF THE VANS HAD A COMPLAINT OF HARD STOPPING I.E. TOO LONG OF DISTANCE. UPON TEST DRIVING THE VAN I DID NOTICE THAT THE BRAKES WERE VERY MUSHY. I DROVE ONE OF THE OTHER NEW VANS AND PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING, MUSHY BRAKES. I TOOK VAN TO THE DEALER AND THEY TRIED TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM WHICH THEY MUST OF BECAUSE THEY HAD FOR 3 DAYS AND WERE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY TRIED BLEEDING THE BRAKES ETC. THEY ENDED UP REPLACING THE MASTER CYLINDER. UPON THE RETURN OF THE VAN I NOTICED AN IMPROVEMENT IN PEDAL FEEL BUT THE BRAKES STILL FEEL TOO MUSHY. YOU AREN'T SURE WHERE THE STOPPING POINT OR I SHOULD SAY THE APPLICATION POINT COMES INTO PLAY. *TR
MY 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY BRAKES ARE TOO SOFT, I'M NOT CONFIDENT ABOUT THE BRAKES FROM THE DAY I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, I NEED TO PUT EXTRA PRESSURE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. BRAKES HAVE TO BE DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR TO STOP AND ALMOST AVOID REAR ENDING COUPLE OF TIMES. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY BLEED THE SYSTEM AND SAID IT OK, BUT I DON'T SEE ANY DIFFERENCE, ITS REALLY VERY UNSAFE WITH THESE KIND OF BRAKES. BRAKES HAVE A VERY SOFT AND SPONGY FEELING. BRAKES HAVE TO BE DEPRESSED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR TO STOP THE VEHICLE. YOU HAVE TO ALLOW EXTRA DISTANCE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ONCE STOPPED WITH BRAKES APPLIED, VEHICLE WILL LURCH FORWARD. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY 2007 EXL: BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT REQUIRING PRESSING ALMOST TO THE BOTTOM TO STOP THE CAR. DEALER DID REPLACE MASTER CYLINDER BUT NO DIFFERENCE, THE SAME SCARY FEELING ESPECIALLY ON A HIGHWAY. COUPLE TIMES I EVEN MANAGE TO PRESS BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME WHILE TRYING TO STOP A CAR. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED (IT WAS IN CANADA AND ROAD WAS SLIPPERY) I HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP A CAR. *TR
VERY HARD TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFT UPON SLOWING THE VAN. AFTER DOWNSHIFT THE VAN HAS A SHARP JERK AND SEEMS TO HAVE TO CATCH THE TRANSMISSION BEFORE GOING INTO A LOWER GEAR. TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE SINCE PURCHASED NEW AN MAY 28, 2007. NOW DEALER AND HONDA FACTORY SERVICE REP IS SAYING THIS IS A "NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC" OF THIS VAN, EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION TWICE FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE FIRST NEW TRANSMISSION WAS AT 3321 MILES AND SECOND WAS AT 12,281 MILES. BRAKES: SLOPPY AND WEAK BRAKES SINCE PURCHASE. ROTORS TURNED AND PAD REPLACED AT 166 MILES, THREE DAYS AFTER BUYING NEW. STILL SOFT AND VIBRATING UPON STOPPING. DEALER SAYS THIS IS ALSO NORMAL. BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND BRAKE PROBLEMS, WE DO NOT FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFE VAN FOR OUR CHILDREN TO RIDE IN. AMERICAN HONDA HAS BEEN MORE THAN UNCOOPERATIVE. THERE IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT WITH THIS VAN AND WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. *TR
2007 HONDA LX BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT AND VARIABLE WHEN APPLIED. SOMETIMES IT 'BRAKES' NEAR THE TOP OF THE PEDAL, SOMETIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PUSH OF THE PEDAL, AND HAS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS GONE INEXPLICABLY TO WITHIN 1/2 INCH OF THE FLOOR. *TR

HONDA ODYSSEY-07- HAS A BRAKE PROBLEM. VEHICLE'S BRAKE PEDAL FEELS WEAK AND PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER,BUT THAT PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED YET. ODYSSEY HAS ONLY 1,400 MILES. *TR
SOFT, SPONGY BRAKE PEDAL. DEALER REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER, BLED BRAKES TWICE ON ADVISE OF TECH LINE WITHOUT NOTICEABLE IMPROVEMENT. BRAKE PEDAL CAN BE DEPRESSED BELOW HEIGHT OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL, HAVE TWICE CAUGHT THE EDGE OF MY FOOT ON ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHEN BRAKING CAUSING UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. HAVE CASE OPEN WITH HONDA OFFICE IN TORRANCE, CA...THEY CANNOT TELL ME IF OR WHEN THERE WILL BE A FIX. DO NOT HAVE CONFIDENCE IN THESE BRAKES. *TR
WHILE PARKING AT DAYCARE, TURN INTO PARKING SPOT, BRAKES FAIL. BRAKES ARE PUMPED TO THE FLOOR 5 TIMES BEFORE HITTING A LARGE BOULDER CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO SUSPENSION AND FRAME. ALSO, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, YET SEATBELT LOCKED IN PLACE. DEALER IS DOING REPAIR SINCE THERE IS POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES. HOWEVER AFTER 55 DAYS, STILL WAITING FOR RETURN OF VEHICLE. TURNS OUT COMPUTER REGULATING AIRBAGS FAILED AS WELL. 2 DEFECTS THAT IF THE BRAKES HAD FAILED JUST 3 MINUTES SOONER WOULD NO DOUBT HAVE BEEN A FATAL ACCIDENT ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. *TR
WE PURCHASED BRAND NEW ODYSSEY JULY'07. FROM DATE OF PURCHASE WE NOTICED THE BRAKES PERFORMED BELOW PAR. THE BRAKES REQUIRED MUCH FORCE BE APPLIED AS WELL AS A LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE BE ACCOMMODATED. AT FIRST THE DEALER COMMENTED THAT OUR VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM, HOWEVER, A TEST DRIVE SHOWED THAT IF ONE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE THE CAR IS AT REST IT GAVE WAY UNTIL IT EVENTUALLY MADE CONTACT WITH THE FLOOR. AFTER THIS THE DEALER INSISTED THAT I LEAVE WITH A RENTAL WHILE THEY LOOKED AT THE PROBLEM, SEPT '07. THEY KEPT THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS. UPON RETURNING THE VEHICLE THEIR COMMENTS WERE "WE HAVE IMPROVED THE MASTER CYLINDER, HOWEVER, THIS IS TEMPORARY AND I SHOULD ALLOW FOR A FURTHER INSPECTION AT MY NEXT OIL CHANGE". THE VEHICLE IS STILL NOT RIGHT. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND BAD WEATHER IT DOES NOT INSPIRE CONFIDENCE, ONE FEELS AS THOUGH ONE IS DRIVING A LEMON. NOW THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL FAULT. THE COMPUTER FLASHES A WARNING (ERRATIC) "CHECK PETROL CAP"... THIS WARNING APPEARING AFTER HAVING COVERED 320MLS WITH STILL AMPLE FUEL IN THE TANK. NO APPARENT LOGIC CAN BE ATTACHED TO THE REASON OF THE WARNING. THE WARNING DISAPPEARS AFTER THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF, THE PETROL CAP IS OPENED AND THEN CLOSED AGAIN AND, THE ENGINE RESTARTED. *TR
SOFT BRAKE PEDAL AND BRAKE CHATTERING WHEN BRAKING AT HIGH SPEEDS. *JB
WE CURRENTLY HAVE AROUND 7,000 MILES ON A 2007 AND THERE HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE ODYSSEY'S BRAKING SYSTEM. THE BRAKES HAVE A VERY SOFT FEEL AND NEED TO BE DEPRESSED AT LEAST 3/4 OF THE WAY FOR THE BRAKES TO FEEL LIKE THEY ARE BITING. THE BRAKES HAVE ALWAYS HAD A RELATIVELY SOFT FEELING TO THEM AND IT HAS CAUSED SOME DICEY SITUATIONS WHERE YOU NEED TO ATTEMPT TO SWERVE AROUND ANOTHER VEHICLE SINCE THERE IS A DEFINITE LACK OF CONFIDENCE WHEN YOU NEED TO INDUCE A PANIC STOP. OCCASIONALLY THE BRAKES WILL HAVE A LITTLE CHATTER TO THEM WHICH YOU CAN FEEL IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. WE HAVEN'T PEGGED THIS DIRECTLY TO THE LOAD OF THE VEHICLE OR HOT BRAKES/BRAKE PADS, BUT WE ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THIS ISSUE LOOKED INTO WITH OUR DEALER. *JB
