Your van suddenly wouldn't move while at a stop, even though it shifted into gear. After restarting, it ran for about a mile with shaking before dropping to 10 mph on the highway. Once you got home and restarted it again, it shifts into gear but still won't move forward. No warning lights appeared, and this happened despite regular maintenance. The issue may involve the transmission's ability to transfer power from the engine to the wheels.

I HAD 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY IN 120000 MILE HAD CHECK ENGINE ON WITH CODE 0740 THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IS BETTER TO SALE IT THEN I BUY HONDA ODYSSEY 2004 AFTER 5 MONTHS WITH 137000 MILE HAVE THE SAME CODE AND CHECK ENGINE ON I LOVE HONDA CAR BUT IT SEEMS THERE IS A PART IN TRANSMISSION IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY CAN YOU EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT SHOULD I DO ?
ON 8/25/2016 I TOOK MY 2004 ODYSSEY TO ANDERSON HONDA AT PALO ALTO FOR NORMAL OIL CHANGE. AFTER THE WORK WAS DONE THEY SHOWED ME THAT THE OIL DRAIN PLUG WOULD NOT TORQUE DOWN TO SPECS (JUST SPINS). THE OIL WAS LEAKING FROM THE OIL PAN. ANDERSON HONDA'S SERVICE ADVISOR DENIED THAT THEY OVER-TORQUED THE PLUG. THE MILEAGE WAS ONLY 67637, THE PLUG HAD BEEN TAKEN OFF AND PUT ON FOR ONLY ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES AND IT'S THE ORIGINAL HONDA PART IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. BEFORE THE OIL CHANGE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR AND DURING THE LAST TIME MAINTENANCE AT ANOTHER HONDA DEALER THE CAR WAS CHECKED WITH EVERYTHING OK. ON 8/29/2016 I TOOK MY CAR TO VICTORY HONDA AT SAN BRUNO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE OIL PAN WAS REPLACED. THE OLD OIL PAN SHOWED THE SCREW IN THE OIL PAN WAS DAMAGED BY THE STEEL PLUG. THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM COULD BE: 1 ANDERSON HONDA'S TECHNICIAN OVER-TORQUED THE PLUG AND DAMAGED THE OIL PAN. BUT THEY CLAIMED THAT THEY ARE HONDA OFFICIAL DEALER AND THEY DIDN'T OVER-TORQUED IT. 2. HONDA'S PARTS OR DESIGNS HAVE DEFECT. THEY SHOULD NOT PUT STEEL PLUG ONTO A SOFT METAL PAN DIRECTLY. I THINK THE COST OF REPLACING DAMAGED OIL PAN SHOULD BE PAID EITHER BY ANDERSON HONDA OR HONDA OF AMERICA. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT PAY FOR THEIR FAULT. THE SAFETY ISSUE OF THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM IS OIL LEAKING (HARMFUL TO OUR ENVIRONMENT), ENGINE FAILING ON THE ROAD IF DAMAGED PLUG FALLS OFF. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RELAY PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO INDICATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE AS THE GEARS CHANGED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,000.
I PURCHASED A HONDA ODYSSEY FROM A LOCAL HONDA DEALER MARCH 2012 WITH 122,000 MILES ON IT AND WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS A BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION. NOVEMBER 2014 I DROVE THE CAR TO MY GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE 5 HOURS AWAY FOR THANKSGIVING AND THE DAY AFTER THE RETURN TRIP THE CAR BEGAN SLIPPING GEARS. HONDA WANTS $5,100 TO FIX IT. THE TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN IT NOW IF THEY INDEED PUT A NEW ONE IN IT IS ONLY 2 1/2 YEARS OLD AND HAS 47,000 MILES ON IT!! THAT IS RIDICULOUS!! I PAID $7,900 FOR A CAR THAT LASTED ME ONLY 47,000 MILES!! *TR
DRIVING 2004 ODYSSEY (140K MILES) DOWN I-95 IN RICHMOND (FROM NOVA) AND STARTED LOSING POWER (DROPPING SPEED WITH INCREASING RPMS). BAD SMELL AND SMOKE OUT THE BACK LED ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. FOUND A SHOP THAT REPLACED THE CC. WHILE REPLACING THEY NOTICED LOTS OF OIL UNDER MY VEHICLE. TURNS OUT IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE SHOP TOPPED OFF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID (4 QTS), LET IT RUN FOR A WHILE, DIDN'T SEE A LEAK, AND I DROVE OFF THE LOT. I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON SO I RETURNED TO THE AUTO SHOP. THEY WERE HAVING TROUBLE ERASING THE ERROR CODE SO THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF SO THEY RECOMMENDED I HAVE IT FIXED WHEN I RETURNED HOME. I WAS ON MY WAY TO A NORTH CAROLINA BEACH WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED (ALBEIT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL LIT). LOCAL DRIVING AT THE BEACH AT LOW SPEEDS (BELOW 40 MPH) CAUSED NO ISSUES. THE FOLLOWING WEEK ON MY WAY FROM THE NC BEACH TO NOVA, THE TCS LIGHT WAS NOW LIT (IN ADDITION TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT). WITHIN A FEW MILES I ENCOUNTERED A SIMILAR SITUATION WHILE HEADING NORTH ON I-95 (AS I DID THE WEEK BEFORE WHILE HEADING SOUTH ON I-95) THOUGH NOT AS SEVERE (SLIGHT DROP IN SPEED WITH INCREASING RPMS, BAD SMELL WITH SMOKE OUT THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE). I FOUND OUT THE NEXT DAY ABOUT THE HONDA ODYSSEY TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE I WAS LUCKY TO GET 140K OUT OF IT, THOUGH NOT HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT THE LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN BY HONDA. MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN LOYAL HONDA CUSTOMERS SINCE 1984 WITH 4 VEHICLES PURCHASED. NO MORE. *TR
THE MOTOR MOUNTS ON THIS VEHICLE HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE HAS BEEN A BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE UPON ACCELERATION FOR SOME TIME. I BROUGHT IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY ARE TELLING US THAT WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE MOTOR MOUNTS AT OVER $1000.00. HE HAS TOLD US THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS MODEL VEHICLE. WE HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND FOUND MANY OTHERS COMPLAINING TO YOU AND HONDA, AS WELL AS OTHER FORUM BOARDS. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT IS BEING OVERLOOKED BY HONDA. MOTOR MOUNTS ARE NOT A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PART. THEY SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT ALL. AS YOU KNOW, FAILURE OF THIS PART COULD CAUSE CATASTROPHIC RESULTS CAUSING A VEHICLE TO CAREEN INTO OTHERS, DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP. THIS SHOULD CLEARLY BE A RECALL ISSUE. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE FOOTING THE BILL FOR AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT HONDA IS CHOOSING TO IGNORE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE (OR PRETEND TO BE NOT AWARE OF IT). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95000. ONE OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS BROKE BACK IN 2005 AND HAD FOUR MORE BROKEN OVER THE YEARS. I CURRENTLY HAVE 2 THAT ARE BROKEN BUT WILL NOT REPLACE THEM DUE TO COST AND IT SEEMS THIS IS A DEFECT DUE INFACT TO THE VOLUME OF TIMES THEY HAVE BROKEN. TOYOTA HAS REPLACED THEM TWICE. *TR

UPON LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEYS AT ABOUT THAT MILEAGE AROUND THAT YEAR. WITH SO MANY WITH THE PROBLEM, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL CUSTOMERS RECEIVING SIMILAR RECOMMENDATIONS, AND ONE CUSTOMER RECOMMENDED INFORMING NHTSA. IS THIS A PROBLEM WITH HONDAS? *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT DID NOT CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE DEFECTIVE MOTOR MOUNTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE THERE, THE DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED THREE OF THE FOUR ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN, RESULTING IN A $858.78 REPAIR. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT UNCOMMON IN VEHICLES WITH 100,000. WE'VE HAD CARS MUCH OLDER THAN THIS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM! IF IT'S "NOT UNCOMMON" IN HONDA ODYSSEYS, I THINK IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. PERHAPS ANOTHER RECALL FROM HONDA IS DUE. *TR

THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS, THE MILEAGE ON MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY IS 101434. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR THIS COST. HONDA IS KNOWN FOR THERE RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY, SHOULD STAND BEHIND THERE VEHICLES. I HAD TO CALL AROUND TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD COST AND IS BEING FIXED. DEAR SIR/MADAM, WE OWN A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY EX AND BOUGHT IT NEW AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. WE MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE SPECS BY THE MANUFACTURER. EARLIER TODAY WE BROUGHT IT TO A LOCAL AUTO SHOP TO GET A REGULAR OIL CHANGE AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE BROKEN DOWN AND SINCE THE MILEAGE IS STILL UNDER 100K, IT IS UNCOMMON TO HAVE THAT. THE STORE OWNER ALSO MENTIONED THAT HE NOTICED A LOT OF OTHER HONDA ODYSSEYS HAVE THE SIMILAR PROBLEM. WE WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE MATTER AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE ACTUALLY A LOT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING SIMILAR ISSUE FROM OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS PARTICULARLY FROM 2003 TO 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY. SINCE WE DID NOT FIND A RECALL FROM HONDA OF AMERICA, WE WANT TO REPORT THE PROBLEM HERE TO BE TAKEN A LOOK UPON. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
TWO ENGINE MOUNTS ARE FAILING DESPITE THE RELATIVELY LOW MILEAGE ON THE VAN. I'VE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT SUFFERED FROM SUCH A POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WITH THIS MANY MILES ON IT. *TR
MOTOR MOUNTS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE FAILING PREMATURELY. I HAD TO REPLACE RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT AT 97750 MILES AND WAS JUST INFORMED BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT 102500 MILES. *TR
TOOK THE VAN TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER FOR A ROUTINE BRAKE FLUID AND BRAKE ROTOR REPLACEMENT. WHILE WORKING ON THAT THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE TWO FRONT ENGINE MOUNTS WERE DAMAGED. THESE ARE NOT LISTED BY HONDA AS THE ROUTINE MAINTANANCE ITEMS. BUT FAILURE OF THESE WOULD CAUSE CERTAIN DAMAGE. APPARENTLY IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH HONDAY ODYSSEYS BUT HONDA HAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILED PART. *TR
WAS TOLD THAT 2 ENGINE MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ONE WAS BROKEN, AND THE OTHER CRACKED. STANDARD MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOLLOWED. NO ISSUE MENTIONED AT DURING PREVIOUS SERVICE APPOINTMENTS. NORMAL FAMILY DRIVING FOR VACATIONS AND AROUND TOWN ONLY. *TR
VEHICLE FAILED SAFETY INSPECTION TODAY BECAUSE 3 ENGINE MOUNTS ARE BROKEN. THEY WERE NOT BROKEN AT LAST YEARS SAFETY INSPECTION, NOR AT SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE 6 MONTHS AGO. MECHANIC INDICATED HE SEES THIS FREQUENTLY ON HONDA ODYSSEY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHEN THE CONTACT SHIFTED FROM PARK INTO THE REVERSE POSITION, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VAN ABOUT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY, IT SUDDENLY SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP, COULD NOT GET ANY POWER. CRUISED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NOTICED FLUIDS LEAKING FROM ENGINE. HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, FRANK ANCONA HONDA, OLATHE KANSAS. TOLD THAT THE FRONT AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN AND WAS CAUSING STRESS ON THE BACK MOTOR MOUNT, AND THAT THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SHAKE AND THE VENT TUBE WAS SHAKEN OFF, DRAINED ALL TRANSMISSION FLUID. COST TO REPAIR THE MOTOR MOUNTS AND VENT TUBE WAS $860.31. TOLD BY REPAIRMAN THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEY'S WHEN THEY HIT AROUND THE 110,000 MILE MARK. AND THEY REPLACE THESE ALL THE TIME. SEEMS TO ME IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THEN THERE MUST BE A FLAW IN THE ENGINEERING AND HONDA SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS VEHICLE FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO WHICH I FEEL HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS AND FIX. *TR
BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY IN REVERSE THEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE THE ODYSSEY WOULD CONTINUE IN REVERSE. SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. SHIFTED INTO 2ND GEAR AND THE CAR STATED TO MOVE, SHIFTED AGAIN INTO DRIVE. STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS THE RPM'S WENT FLYING AND THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE FORWARD. *TR
THREE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE BROKEN ON OUR HONDA ODYSSEY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL. WE HAVE HAD AND CURRENTLY HAVE OTHER CARS THAT ARE AND WERE OLDER THAN THIS ODYSSEY AND YET THE MOUNTS REMAINED IN TACT. HONDA CURRENTLY REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS A MODEL DEFECT. I HAVE HAD TO SHELL OUT CLOSE TO $1500 TO CORRECT THEIR DEFECTIVE PARTS. I AM APPALLED THAT THEY ARE REFUSING TO RECALL THESE PARTS AND ON TOP ARE CHARGING SUCH HIGH PRICES TO CORRECT IT. *TR
DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE YESTERDAY, MY WIFE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AND SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED REPLACED. THIS SEEMED ODD SINCE IT HAD NOT BEEN OBSERVED DURING PREVIOUS VISITS AND FOR THE MILES ON THE VEHICLE. AUTO REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME THAT TWO MOTOR MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. NOT REPAIRING THEM COULD RESULT IN THE ENGINE DROPPING AND PULLING RADIATOR DOWN WHICH WOULD BE DANGEROUS AND RESULT IN A MORE EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THEY INFORMED ME THAT MOTOR MOUNTS ARE NOT A MAINTENANCE ITEM, LIKE BELTS, FOR EXAMPLE. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED IN NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THEY ALSO SAID THEY HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THIS EXACT PROBLEM IN THIS GENERATION HONDA ODYSSEY. FURTHER, THE PRICE OF THESE MOTOR MOUNTS IS VERY HIGH AND HAS NOT COME DOWN WHICH IS WHAT THEY WOULD EXPECT GIVEN THE FREQUENCY OF REPAIR AND AGE OF MODEL. VIN NOT AVAILABLE: CAR CURRENTLY IN SERVICE ON MONDAY, 12/19/2011, THE ODYSSEY ACCELERATED EVEN AFTER APPLYING BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN. HAD TO PULL INTO SERVICE SHOP AND DRIVE UNTIL THE CAR COULD BE SAFELY PLACED IN PARK, AND HAD TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. WAS TOLD THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (PART #047211) WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED FROM HONDA AND REPLACED. THE CAR WAS AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP ON TUESDAY 12/20/2011. ON WEDNESDAY, 12/21/2011, WHILE TRAVELING EAST ON THE NEW YORK STATE THRUWAY THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN ABOVE THE SPEED LIMIT WITHOUT STEPPING ON THE GAS. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKES. I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INTO A SERVICE STATION. CONTINUED TO DRIVE AROUND PARKING LOT UNTIL I COULD PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND, AGAIN, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. EVEN WHEN CAR WAS TURNED BACK ON THE ENGINE ACCELERATED. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A CERTIFIED HONDA REPAIR SHOP IN YORKVILLE, N.Y. BEING EVALUATED. THEY ARE TELLING US THEY WILL NEED TO CHECK ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION MOUNTS ON THE VEHICLE (DUE TO BEING IN AN ACCIDENT IN 2009, BUT WAS RECONDITIONED IN 2010 BY ANOTHER HONDA DEALER), ALSO WILL CHECK CABLE BETWEEN THROTTLE BODY AND GAS. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME LATE AT NIGHT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT COME ON IN HER 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE VAN BEGINS TO SLOW DOWN UNTIL IT WILL GO NO FASTER THAN 5 MPH. PULLING TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHE TURNED OFF THE VAN THEN RESTARTED IT. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE LAST FEW MILES BACK TO OUR HOUSE LUCKILY, AND WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A SHOP JUST UP THE STREET SINCE IT COULD NOT MAKE IT MUCH FURTHER. IT TURNS OUT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE SHOP CALLED HONDA, KNOWING THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL ON THE 2004 ODYSSEY TRANSMISSIONS, BUT HONDA CLAIMED THAT IT DID THE WORK FOR THE RECALL AND HAD NO FURTHER RESPONSIBILITY. I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS. TO KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH A TRANSMISSION, "FIX" IT WITH A RECALL, AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT ON A VEHICLE WITH UNDER 100,000 MILES IS UNACCEPTABLE. I'VE OWNED HONDAS IN THE PAST AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS. MATTER OF FACT, I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS WITH ANY CAR I'VE OWNED, NO MATTER THE MANUFACTURER. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A HONDA MINIVAN BECAUSE IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE SAFE. OUR 2004 ODYSSEY WENT IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE TODAY AND THE TECHNICIAN REPORTED BOTH A FRONT AND A REAR MOTOR MOUNT WAS BAD. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES AND IS USED FOR HAULING KIDS AND GETTING GROCERIES, NOT EXTREME DRIVING AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE EXCESSIVE VIBRATION, DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION, AND CAUSE HOSES AND WIRES TO COME LOSE. THIS IS AN UNACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE EXPECTED LIFE OF SUCH AN ESSENTIAL PART CANNOT POSSIBLY BE LESS THAN 150,000 MILES. IT IS NOT A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PROBLEM, IT IS NOT A CONSUMABLE PART LIKE BRAKES AND HOSES, AND IT'S NOT A MOVING PART LIKE THE TRANSMISSION OR A PULLEY. I WOULD EXPECT THE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE TO FAIL LONG BEFORE THE PARTS HOLDING THE VAN TOGETHER TO START FAILING, ESPECIALLY THE MOUNTS HOLDING THE ENGINE. I BOUGHT THIS ODYSSEY FROM JIM COLEMAN HONDA IN MARYLAND IN 2006 WITH EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS IS 2004 MODEL. THE AC WORKED 2006 BUT IN 2007 IT DI NOT WORK WHEN WE NEEDED. I CALLED THE HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DO NOT COVER AC UNDER THE WARRANTY. I TOOK MY ODYSSEY TO CRISWELL HONDA IN GERMANTOWN IN MARYLAND AND PAID $100.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC. IT WORKED FINE FOR A WEEK AND AGAIN NO AC. AFTER THAT WE WENT TO INDIA IN SEP 2007 AND RTN IN DEC 2007. WHEN THE SUMMER CAME IN 2007 WE HAD NO AC I TOOK THE VAN AGAIN TO CRISWELL HONDA AND EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT THEY FIXED THIS IN 2007 THEY LOOKED AND SAID THAT THERE IS A LEAK AND WILL COST $55.00 TO FIX IT. I KEPT SMELLING ANTIFREEZE AFTER DRIVING THE VAN BUT NEVER COULD FIND A LEAK. FINALLY, I NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING. LOOKING CAREFULLY, I DISCOVERED A COOLANT LEAK AT HEAD GASKET AREA. WHILE REMOVING HEAD ASSEMBLY, I NOTICED TWO BOLTS WERE LOOSE. AFTER REMOVING HEAD ASSEMBLY FROM ENGINE BLOCK, I DISCOVERED STRIPPED THREADS IN ONE OF THE BOLT HOLES TO HOLD THE HEAD ASSEMBLY DOWN. A HELICOIL INSERT WILL BE USED TO REPAIR THREADS BEFORE REASSEMBLY. *TR
BOUGHT THE HONDA IN MAY 2004. NOTICED A SLIGHT HESITATION AT TIMES WHEN ENGINE WAS NOT WARMED UP. I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT IN MY NEW CAR SURVEY FORM AND EACH TIME IT WAS SERVICED. ON 8-5-05 THEY REPLACED EGR VALVE, AS IT SOMETIMES WOULD CAUSE THIS FAILURE. ON 2-5-07 IT TOTALLY QUIT AS I WAS STARTING A TURN INTO PEP BOYS PARKING LOT, IF ANYONE WOULD HAVE BEEN COMING OUT I WOULD HAVE RUN INTO THEM AS I HAD NO STEERING NOR BRAKES. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER AND SAID I WANTED IT FIXED BEFORE I WOULD HAVE AN ACCIDENT. I HAD MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT THE LEMON LAW AND THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT HONDA OF AMERICA, WHICH I DID. END RESULT WAS DEALER TOOK CAR FOR THREE DAYS IN MARCH 2007. THEY TESTED IT BUT COULD NOT MAKE IT FAIL SO NOTHING WAS DONE. DEALERS STATED I MUST BE TURNING THE KEY TOO FAST. ALSO BEEN EXPERIENCING VEHICLE CUTTING OUT BETWEEN 35-50 MPH. DEALER STATES MUST BE FROM TAKING FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL. MOST RECENTLY, AROUND 33K, BLOWER MOTOR FOR AC HAS TERRIBLE NOISE. HAVE TAKEN TO DEALER 2X IN 3 WEEKS. TOLD THERE ARE "LEAVES" IN SYSTEM. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATES IT IS MOST LIKELY A BEARING GOING BAD IN THE MOTOR. HAVE CONTINUED TO INFORM DEALER OF STARTING PROBLEMS & HESITATION PROBLEMS BETWEEN 35-50 MPG.
