2005 HONDA ODYSSEY CONSUMER EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY IN STEERING THE VEHICLE AT TIMES, WHEN PARKING AND DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. *CN
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND NOTICED A SMALL WISP OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. WE EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND TOOK THE PLASTIC COVER OFF THE STEERING COLUMN AND INVESTIGATED. SEEING NO MORE SMOKE WE FIGURED A FUSE HAD BLOWN OR SOME SUCH AND TOOK A SHORT BREAK FROM DRIVING. WE GOT BACK IN THE VAN AND STARTED OFF DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND FOR 30 MILES OR SO NO PROBLEMS. SUDDENLY WE NOTICED THE SMOKE AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THERE WAS A SMALL CIGARETTE LIGHTER TYPE FLAME COMING FROM THE TURN SIGNAL BOX ON THE COLUMN. WE IMMEDIATELY EXITED THE NEXT EXIT AND PARKED ON THE EXIT RAMP. WE TRIED MANGO JUICE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WHICH WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME BUT THEN THE FIRE WAS BACK. WE CALLED 911 AND BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT COULD GET THERE (APPROX. 2-3 MINUTES) THE SMALL LITTLE FLAME HAD GROWN TO CONSUME THE ENTIRE CAR IN FLAMES. THE CAR WAS TOTALLY DEMOLISHED BY THE FIRE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH, THE STEERING LOCKED AND THE CONTACT PULLED OFF THE ROAD. SHE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL HARD TO UNLOCK IT, AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WIRES WERE INTERTWINED AND WHEN THE CONTACT UNLOCKED THE STEERING WHEEL, IT SNAPPED THE WIRES. AS A RESULT, THE AIR BAG, TURN SIGNALS, AND HORN FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED BECAUSE THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
DT: THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A MALFUNCTIONING OF THE SEAT BELTS IN THE MIDDLE ROW OF THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALER SIX TIMES. THE SEAT BELTS WORKED CORRECTLY FOR A SHORT TIME THEN FAILED TO RETRACT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AT THIS TIME. *AK (12/02/05) (THE RIGHT AND MIDDLE SEAT BELT) THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *SC
WHILE TURNING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END DUE TO FRONT TIE RODS WEARING OUT. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH STEERING ON 2000 HONDA ODYSSEY. *MR THERE WAS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEN GOING 65 MPH ALONG WITH BRAKE PULSATION (REAR BRAKE DRUMS WERE TAPERED AND THE SHOES DID NOT APPLY PROPERLY), RIMS WERE OUT OF ROUND, THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT, DRIVER'S WINDOW SQUEAKED WHEN GOING DOWN, BRAKES SQUEAKED, ONE TIRE WAS FOUND BAD WHEN THE VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL OCCURRED AND WAS REPLACED. EVENTUALLY ALL THE TIRES WERE REPLACED BUT THE VIBRATION STILL OCCURRED. *SCC *JB
WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE DEALER BUT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *NLM
THERE WAS A SLIGHT OIL LEAK AT THE JOINT OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION AND THE SEALS WERE REPLACED. WHEN PULLING FROM A STOP SIGN, THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLANKING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN, THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE COLUMN, ALSO THERE WAS A SQUEAK COMING FORM THE REAR SUSPENSION, THE PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE A LEAK FROM THE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER.*TS *JB
HONDA SOLD ME A VAN KNOWING THAT IT PULLED BADLY TO THE RIGHT. THEY TELL ME ALL VANS DO THIS, THUS, THEY WILL NOT GIVE ME A NEW ONE. THE PROBLEM IS VERY DANGEROUS.

THE LEFT REAR SLIDING DOOR HAS FAILED TWICE. IT WILL CLOSE BUT NOT LATCH ALL OF THE WAY. THE ALARM GOES OFF. THE RIGHT SLIDING DOOR HAS FAILED TWICE. IT WILL CLOSE MOMENTARILY AND THEN AUTOMATICALLY REOPEN. A FRIEND FOUND MY DOOR WIDE OPEN IN A PARKING LOT WIDE OPEN. THIS COULD RESULT IN THEFT OF CONTENTS OF ENTIRE VAN. IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN SOMEONE HIDING IN THE CARGO AREA AWAITING FOR MY RETURN UNDETECTED. IT ALSO LEAVES ME STRANDED WITH MY THREE KIDS. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE A CAR WITH A DOOR WIDE OPEN WITH THREE YOUNG CHILDREN. I DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE A CAR WHEN THE DOOR IS NOT LATCHED ALL OF THE WAY EITHER. MY NEIGHBOR HAS HAD HIS CAR IN 7 TIMES ALSO FOR HIS SLIDING DOORS. I AM GOING TO ARBITRATION ON TUESDAY, MAY 23 HOPING IT BE DECLARED A LEMON. MY NEIGHBOR WILL BE DOING SO SOON ALSO.*AK
DRIVER BUMPED INTO SEAT LEVER WHEN IT BECAME STUCK, CAUSING DRIVER SEAT TO AUTOMATICALLY RECLINE BACKWARDS ON TOP OF CHILD THAT WAS IN CSS BEHIND DRIVER'S SEAT. DRIVER SAYS THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE SEATBELT CAUGHT ON THE RECLINE LEVER, CAUSING IT TO CONTINUE TO RECLINE AFTER DOOR WAS SHUT. *AK *ML
