2017 Honda Civic Electrical Problems

My vehicles Body Control Module has malfunctioned and now I have to get a new one. When driving my car will begin to flash all of the warning lights including the power steering, break system, TMPS system and the immobilizer light.

Wiring harness was "damaged by rodents" twice due to the swap to soy-based, edible wiring. No other vehicles have this issue in my area and I have lived here 5 years. On two (2) separate occasions the engine wiring harness was damaged by rodents. The damaged wiring harness compromised the power steering system, braking system and stability control system. Failure of these critical systems put the safety and welfare of myself, my family and all drivers on the road in danger of serious injury and death.

This is a known issue with Hondas from 2016 and up where the Body Control Module (BCM) is faulty and malfunctioning. When the car turns off, it turns itself back on and makes noises to turn itself back on. This issue may cause possible electrical issues that may short and start a fire internally.

My son and I purchased a certified pre-owned 2017 honda civic sedan on dec 3rd from honda of lisle il. The car was purchased with 22,100 miles. My son was driving on dec 10th and stopped for gas for the first time.

During driving of the vehicle and at various speeds all electrical systems will fail and all warning lights come on. This includes ABS, traction control, power steering, brake assist and more. When this occurs the vehicle becomes almost impossible to steer and has nearly resulted in an accident before.

On june 13th, less then a month after it was inspected/serviced from the honda dealership on may 21st, my 3 year old car busts up in flames. As we were driving down a rural road on a clear day going about 65, a spark flew from the engine. The oil pressure light comes on followed by loss of power to the car.

While driving my car will put the brakes on if another care passes me on drivers side. This did it for a few weeks, then the collision mitigation system light came on and will not clear. Cruise will not work.

POTENTIAL TAKETA RECALL. JULY 14, 2018. I HAD MADE A LEFT HAND TURN INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A LOCAL CONVENIENCE STORE. TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY 7 P.M.AS I PULLED INTO THE PARKING SPOT, THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT TIRE BUMPED THE CURB.THE DRIVERS SIDE CENTER AIRBAG, LOCATED IN THE STEERING WHEEL DID NOT DEPLOY. IT EXPLODED! I THOUGHT SOMEONE HAD RAMMED INTO MY CAR. WHEN THE AIRBAG BLEW, IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMEONE HAD FIRED A COUPLE OF 12 GUAGE SHOTGUNS IN THE VEHICLE.SMOKE WAS BILLOWING OUT FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE STEERING WHEEL AND COLUMN. IT SMELLED LIKE SOMETHING ELECTRICAL WAS ON FIRE. THE IMPACT FROM THE EXPLODING AIRBAG WAS NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE TO SAY THE LEAST. BY THE TIME I UNBUCKLED MY SEAT BELT TO EXIT THE CAR, THE SMOKE INSIDE THE VEHICLE WAS SO THICK I COULD NOT SEE OUT THE WINDSHIELD. MY CHEST AND HAND ARE SORE, BUT NOTHING APPEARS TO BE BROKEN. I LEFT THE VEHICLE WHERE IT WAS PARKED AND HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIOP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, SO THAT A COMPLETE EVALUATION CAN BE DONE TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE THAT RESULTED FROM THE EXPLODING AIRBAG. WHEN I CHECKED THE VIN ON THIS WEBSITE, IT DID NOT COME UP AS BEING ON THE AIRBAG RECALL. THAT NEEDS TO CHANGE ASAP. THANK GOODNESS I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE VEHICLE. I SHUDDER TO THINK OF WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THERE WERE PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE WHEN THAT AIRBAG BLEW!

2 times startup problem...brake problem..parking brake problem..emissions system problem....brake hold system problem...power steering problem....vehicle stability assist problem...hill start assist problem... Collisions assist problem...all software problem and system error

First time speedometer reading 0 while driving. Second time while driving down hwy, all error lights on dash came on, I have 10 or so photos, of the incident, speedometer read 0 going upward of 50 MPH, power steering was going in and out and vehicle was very difficult to control. This is a huge issue being in colorado.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback and the dangerous issue related to its air conditioning (A/C) system — a problem affecting many Civic owners nationwide. I initially brought my vehicle to Honda City Chicago for a Honda “campaign” repair (a term they use instead of calling it a recall) in 2023 and again this year, related to the A/C system.

I drove home from work today like normal. Pushed the engine start/stop button before getting out of the car. The radio was still on, and the dash was still on, with Accessory Mode, push "start/stop" twice to turn off, or something similar to that.

My 2017 Honda Civic Touring, has had two major issues in the past two months. So far, I have put about $3,000 in these issues. Issue 1:Two months ago, they found a leak in the front seal of the compressor, and it had to be replaced.

I went to go start my vehicle after leaving work at 4 am, 5/9/2019. Upon trying to start my vehicle, the brake pedal was stiff. I could not start the vehicle.

The Body Control Module (BCM) is faulty and causes the alarm to go off on its own, lights inside the cluster glitch turning on by itself and drains the battery even with the key fob nowhere near its vicinity when off. Sometimes does not recognize the key fob.

After turning off the vehicle and locking it the vehicle continuously turns on to accessory mode on its own.

While driving my Honda civic 2017, a loud static noise suddenly started coming from the vehicle’s audio system or speakers. The noise is persistent and does not stop unless I turn off the vehicle completely. This creates a significant distraction and could interfere with hearing emergency vehicles or other road sounds.

The air conditioning stopped working for the second time. So far the compressor bearing has been replaced as well as the condenser.

The ABS speed sensor on honda vehicles are placed in such a way that is breaks often. And when it breaks, it leads to multiple sensors going off which may cause the ABS to lock up while braking normally, car accelerating unexpectedly.For me the speed sensor on the right wheel was broken. This lead the car to accelerate unexpectedly and then the sensors would go off.

BCM module in the 2017 Civics seem to have constant Parasitic Battery Drain issues that are not being addressed by Honda. My battery died and was replaced, drain continue on a daily basis. Was able to trace to BCM module.

Body control module/ECU had to be reset at dealership and possible replacement in near future. Glitch occurred and cut power to hazards, turn signals, lights, door locks, etc. during operation of vehicle.

There is a short in the BCM (body control module). This causes massive parasitic drain on my battery of over an amp (roughly 1.2 amps typically). I have to pull the fuse for it (fuse 18 in the engine bay fuse box) every time I leave my car off for more than a couple hours. I'm extremely worried this short is going to cause either a fire or one of the important functional systems of my car to stop working while I'm driving. I have read MANY other reports of this happening to other 2017 Honda Civics yet Honda hasn't done anything about it.

Car fuel injectors will fail and cause misfiring. Dangerous to drive due to engine running rough. Unusual for fuel injectors to go out so soon especially when driven with care and using correct fuel octane.

2nd attempt. I went to download pictures and was kicked out of site. 2017 Honda Civic EX Sedan bought used 2021. So far I've needed 2 new batteries in a very short amount of time. Multiple warning lights are appearing when I start car. Charging System Problem, Power Steering System (EPS) Problem, Charging System Problem, Hill Start Assist Problem, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) Problem, Brake Hold System Problem. Yes, charging System Problem was showing twice. Available for inspection. Yes, my safety is at risk, I'm afraid and paranoid on what else could happen while I'm driving. I'm afraid to drive my car for my own safety. You know Honda, my Life matters too! I've went online and read others with similar problems from used to brand new, going into Limp mode not being able to drive over 40 mph and myself being severely inconvenienced with my JOB. Dealership appt this Tuesday. Occurances: Nov 13 12:32 pm 12.19 TWICE 12.21 Once 12.26.23 9:39am AND 11:23am AND 1:10pm 1.2.24 10:21 am 1.4.24 11:42 am AND 12:34 pm 1.5.24 11:13 am 1.6.24 11:37 am brake light came on, binging, then went away. 1.6.24 12:12pm. This is happening almost everyday now. Thank you!!

My apologies, I just filled out a form (Your Complaint Number: 11563943) and forgot to add problems with AC with my 2017 Honda Civic EX Sedan. My AC went out, went to local dealership, they recharged this around August 2023 I believe. Good now, but my point is I'd ask how long this will last. They said they don't know. I'm like a day, week, month(s)? Again they couldn't say. I live in a very warm area during the Summer, need AC and I need a cool AC environment when driving. I think I deserve to be comfortable. At the dealership, I had mentioned about a Honda recall letter I received about AC. It was either the Compressor or Condenser that is recalled, I forget. Well, they stated after looking at my car, that it was the item that isn't covered. Bill would be close to $1,000.00, I believe. Come on. I find this shady, confusing and concerning with Honda. Thank you again for your help!!! Yes my Life is at risk with this as well. Again, my Life matters also! This is my 4th Honda and I never had so many things go sideways with the last three Hondas as I'm experiencing now with this 2017 Civic EX. This is just ridiculous. Just about fed up with Honda.

Keep getting LANE KEEPING and ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL errors randomly as well as BRAKE SYSTEM warning lights. Took to Honda and they said my camera and radar were functioning fine and recalibrated to be sure. I’m still receiving error messages daily.

Car was draining battery because it would turn on randomly. They replaced the ignition switch, which didn’t work, then the alarm would go off constantly so I took it back to dealership. They said the part is backordered and they have NO idea how long it will be.

Car has a faulty board control module. Car randomly starts itself in accessory mode, even when key fob is not present or batteries are removed. Other times, car will click and not turn on, or show random error messages.

After a sever rainstorm and ice storm a code that causes BCM (Body Control Module) fault code to show up. It affected systems such as Intermittent lock or unlock trunk and door while vehicle is in operation, Failure to start and Security alarm active at random times. An independent service found the "B12D1" code that indicated the BCM has failed during the prescribed process by the manufacture.

The board control module failed and replacements are not available. Available for inspection upon request. Due to the component failing, the vehicle goes to accessory mode randomly or even to its on without engine mode.

Faulty Body Control Module which controls many electronic systems in the car. Alarm started going off while car was parked in the garage. Went off twice within 12 hour period—once in the middle of the night.

The Driver's side door open alarm. When the alarm sounds it makes me think the door has somehow come open. Yes - they didn't see anything visual wrong with the hinges.

Key-less start system problem.... Car has 55000 miles and has been serviced at local Honda dealer on time every time. Car will start up in accessory mode after being turned off and goes into alarm.

Air conditioning started to blow hot and the Freon was low. Had to refill the Freon which is using the new R-1234yf fluid which is hard to find at autozone and is very expensive for a 1 pound can at $50. Still cheaper than a mechanic or dealership price.

Air conditioner fails to cool and instead blows hot air. Honda authorized service technician has confirmed that a defective air conditioner compressor has caused freeon leakage from the compressor's main shaft throughout the system.

My 2017 honda civic ex-t coupe shuts down my digital screen and audio system with the message "amp is in protection mode" this then makes any hands free devices turn completely off from the car. This is a safety issue because in my state, cell phones and any other form of electronics are not permitted.

Car was parked in my garage and the alarm set itself off multiple times, when I approached the car it was unresponsive to any key fob commands and the dashboard was completely lit with flashing safety feature warning lights, and airbags were also disabled. Had to open the car with the manual key, since the car would not respond to the key fob.

Sometimes, when trying to start the vehicle, it will not crank and start. The electric power will come on (dash board icons, headlights, etc.), but it will not crank. It takes from 2 to 7 turns of the key, before it cranks and starts.

The head unit/display stopped working about a week ago. At first, nothing would come on. I thought it may have been a fuse, or it needed rebooted.

I have had issues with my navigation system when I plug in my phone into the jack in the car. I have driven my vehicle to my honda dealer and they witnessed my vehicle actually remove my phone and replace it with someone else's phone in my vehicle. My vehicle will not recognize the phone also even though I have my bluetooth on my I phone and it will not pair with my vehicle as well numerous times.

The car alarm blares randomly throughout the night and sometimes during the day and the car locks itself unable to use the key fob to turn off the alarm and unlock the door replaced the battery in the key fob seemed like a fix for a week now the instrument panel has 'keyless start problem' and won't go away and the car just turns itself to 'on' by itself and/or the alarm goes off also you have to put the actual key in the driver door to turn the alarm off and unlock the car this happens while the car is stationery after it's been driven and turned off for an hour or more

There are times when the power window (front passenger side) and sunroof are open that they can not be closed. The fix is to stop the car, restart it and then raise the window with the switch on the passenger door. That seems to reset it.

Car trunk opens while driving (more than a dozen times to date); windows descend while locking car from outside; gas cap cover unlatches while locking car. Car doors have also unlocked while vehicle was parked, and thieves ransacked car on 2 occasions. I raised issues to dealer (who said they were impossible) and wrote manufacturer april 22; have received no response.

I BOUGHT MY 2017 CIVIC BRAND NEW IN MAY 2017. EVER SINCE I HAD THIS CAR THE ELECTRONICS DON'T ALWAYS WORK. VOLUME DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK ON THE STEERING WHEEL OR ON THE DIGITAL RADIO. FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS MY CAR NOW MAKES A BEEPING NOISE HERE AND THERE THAT SOUNDS LIKE IT'S COMING FROM THE DASH/RADIO. DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CAR IS IN DRIVE OR PARK. EVERY TIME I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO HONDA THEY COULDN'T FIX ANYTHING SINCE THE CODES DIDN'T PULL UP WHEN THEY PLUGGED THEIR COMPUTER INTO MY CAR. I DO HAVE A VIDEO OF THE NOISES THAT MY CAR WAS MAKING (BEEPING). SO YES I STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH MY CAR AND IN 2 MONTHS I WILL HAVE OWNED MY CAR FOR 2 YEARS.

I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT, APPROACHING A GATE WITH AN INDUCTIVE-LOOP TRAFFIC DETECTOR, WHICH CAN DETECT VEHICLES PASSING OR ARRIVING AT A CERTAIN POINT, ONCE A VEHICLE IS DETECTED THE GATE WOULD OPEN. I WAS APPROACHING, MAYBE 50 FEET FROM THE GATE, AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE OF MY 2017 HONDA CIVIC REVVED UP AND ACCELERATED FORWARD TOWARDS THE GATE. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, AS I WAS APPROACHING THE GATE WHICH WAS STILL CLOSED. THERE WAS NO DEBRIS ON THE FLOOR BOARD OR ANYTHING OBSTRUCTING THE PEDALS THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED IT TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO ABRUPTLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO AVOID STRIKING THE GATE. MY HONDA IS EQUIPPED WITH HONDA SENSING AND I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE OCCURRED, MAY BE AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE SENSOR BECAUSE THE "BRAKE" WARNING WAS ON, IT OBSERVED THE GATE.

STARTING ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES ON MY 2017 HONDA CIVIC THAT IS LESS THAN A YEAR AND A HALF OLD AND ONLY HAS 18K MILES ON IT. IT FIRST STARTED AROUND THE FALL LAST YEAR WITH MY CAR REPEATEDLY POPPING THE TRUNK WHEN I WOULD NOT BE NEAR IT AND WOULD COME OUT TO IT IN THE PARKING LOT AT WORK AND FIND MY TRUNK WIDE OPEN. LATER ON I FOUND OUT THE TRUNK POPPING OPEN WOULD FORCE THE CAR ALARM TO GO OFF FOR SEVERAL HOURS AND OCCASIONALLY WOULD LEAD TO A DEAD BATTERY. WHEN I TOOK IT IN TO HAVE THE ISSUE INVESTIGATED THE TECHNICIANS TOLD ME THE COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT SHOULDN'T CONTINUE (IT HAS CONTINUED AND IN FACT IS HAPPENING AS I TYPE THIS IN MY APARTMENT). THE NEXT ISSUE OCCURRED ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN THE POURING RAIN AND MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING COMPLETELY. UPON HAVING THIS PROBLEM INSPECTED THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED IT WAS "FAULTY" WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTORS AND HAD BOTH REPLACED. THE LATEST ISSUE THAT OCCURRED WAS AS I WAS DRIVING TO PENSACOLA FROM WASHINGTON AND STOPPED OFF AT A REST STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE OREGON FOR SOME SLEEP. UPON WAKING UP (3HRS AFTER I SHUT THE CAR OFF) I DISCOVERED MY CAR WAS DOING SOME GLITCHY THING WITH ALL THE LIGHTS AND DASHBOARD WHERE IT WAS ACTING LIKE I WAS TURNING IT OFF AND ON. I HAD NOTHING TURNED ON OR PLUGGED IN WHEN I WENT TO SLEEP AND WHEN I WOKE UP THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAD TOTALLY DISABLED THE CAR.

A VIDEO THAT SHOWED HOW THE FAILURE OCCURRED WAS SHOWN TO THE DEALER, BUT STILL NO DIAGNOSIS WAS MADE. IN ADDITION, WHILE CONNECTING THE BLUETOOTH TO THE VEHICLE'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, IT FAILED TO CONNECT. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER FOR THE BLUETOOTH FUNCTION TO CONNECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT A FIELD TECHNICIAN WOULD BE SENT TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER TO DETERMINE IF THEY COULD PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,500.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 honda civic. While driving various speeds, the touch screen radio flashed on and off without warning. The failure recurred several times.

I leased my honda civic from herb chambers honda of boston in nov. In march 2017 my check engine light came on. When I took my car to the dealership for servicing, they told me that rodents had chewed on the wires under my vehicle.

Just picked up brand new car from dealership (sunset honda I. San luis obispo ca) transferred by them from another dealership. Car is an ex and has previously test driven a 2017 civic hatchback sport the day before .

About a week ago my car began going into accessory mode on its own leaving my interior and exterior lights, my dash board lights and my head unit on until I noticed so my car couldve been dead if I wouldnt have seen. also since the car is locked and it goes into accessory mode on its own the alarm starts going off due to the security system thinking its being broken into.

BCM Failed causing an electrical start problem and the car will not completely turn off. With BCM failed doors will not unlock with the remote and the car fails to start or starts and fails to turn off. This is a known problem with these cars that honda will not address and a safety concern for my family as the car has turned itself off while in motion.

These cars have horrendous AC issues. A spotlight needs to be on put on it. Broken AC can subject drivers to dangerously high temperatures in the cabin, even if the windows are rolled down in some climates.

Vehicle is having electrics issues. It will start up and then when attempting to start it again, it will not start. This happens sporadically and the battery, starter and alternator have been tested in good condition and working as designed.

Coils and spark plugs getting rust/wet by water intrusion causing emisions problems the car is unable to drive.

A/C compressor failed. Mileage 51,000.

Air conditioning system goes from cold to hot while the vehicle is in operation. During very hot days cabin becomes extremely hot even with fan turned to high and a/c turned to the on position. Have heard this problem has happened with other honda civic owners as well.

The a/c stopped working only one year after I purchased this car brand new. The car's a/c started blowing hot air from the vents even when the temperature control setting was set to lowest temp. This is a safety issue since often times I have to pull over and throw up from heat exhaustion while I'm driving during the summer months.

Driving along highway speed and the car brakes abruptly and the accelerator pedal was unresponsive. If this would have happened at rush hour, this would have caused a pile-up. If this would have happened in front of a semi, I might be dead.

The back wiper remained in fast speed until shutting off vehicle. Second time length of approx 5 minutes. Then operated normally.

The car brake stop working when the warning sign came on. I was driving on the highway upon getting off the high on a ramp the brakes froze I wasnt able to apply brakes for about 40 seconds because it became stiff . That's when the warning sign came on .
