SUSPENSION
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 HONDA ACCORD V6 AND MODEL YEAR 2011 HONDA PILOT VEHICLES. THE BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE LOWER LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT DAMPER BRACKET TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND THE SPINDLE NUTS ON THE PILOT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED WHICH MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING. THE SPINDLE NUTS FOR THE AXLE ON THE ACCORD V6 MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED PROPERLY WHICH MAY RESULT IN EXCESSIVE NOISE AND/OR LOSS OF STEERING.
Fix: DEALER WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ANY LOOSE FRONT DAMPER BRACKET BOLTS OR SPINDLE NUTS ON THE PILOT IF NECESSARY. DEALER WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SPINDLE NUTS ON THE ACCORD V6 IF NECESSARY. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN DECEMBER 23, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

The contact owns a 2010 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 MPH, the front driver’s side wheel detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the nuts and bolts were not tightened to specs on the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred 8-months later on the front passenger’s side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that wheel detached due to corrosion. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ACCORD. IN 2017, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL BENT BACKWARDS. IN 2018, WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE AND PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IN 2019, WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL BENT BACKWARDS AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AFTER EACH FAILURE. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BALL JOINT AND AXLE WERE FRACTURED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
6/9/15, AND 5/20/16--HONDA REPLACED RT FRONT AXLE IST TIME 5/20/16 TAKING IT IN FOR EXACT SAME REASON??!! NO ACCIDENTS OR TRAUMA, SHOOK BAD. NOTICED ON LINE OTHERS WITH A CROSSTOUR HAS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. SHAKING ON FREEWAYS WHEN SLOWDOWN ESPECIALLY. IF I NEED REPLACEMENT-IT SHOULD BE COVERED BUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS WITHIN A YEAR???? SCARY. THIS MUST BE LOOKED INTO AS A RECALL-I HAVE HAD MANY CARS NEVER EVER AN AXEL PROBLEM EVER ON EVEN OLDER CARS.

THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL POPPING NOISE WHEN THE SPEED DECREASED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE IPM MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.

ISSUE: FOR PAST 6 MONTHS THESE ISSUES HAS BEEN OBSERVED IN MY HONDA ACCORD V6 EX-L AND HAS INCREASED IN PAST 1 MONTH AND HAS BEEN SEEN AT LEAST 3 TIMES IN PAST MONTH. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 65-70 MILES/HOUR ON A GRADIENT ROADS, THE POWER TRAIN RPM INCREASES TO IN EXCESS OF 4000 RPM AND THE CAR STALLS, CAUSING THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCKUP. YESTERDAY THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL ROAD CONDITION ,AND HAD TO PARK THE CAR, IS IT RELATED TO THESE RECALLS ?#11V395000, #11V004000,#10V640000 APPLY. *TR

UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS PROTRUDING AWKWARDLY FROM THE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BALL JOINT HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,530.
2010 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO WHEEL VIBRATION ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED HER HUSBAND NOTICED A STRONG WHEEL VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN HER HUSBAND APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE VIBRATION COULD BE FELT. UPDATED 11/04/13
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED A METALLIC SNAPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE SOUND COULD BE HEARD AT ALL SPEEDS AND MORE SO WITH MORE WEIGHT IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVEN TIMES. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE STRUTS AND THE SWAY BAR BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY WHICH WAS FAULTY. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THERE WERE NO REPAIRS AVAILABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE AND STATED IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
THE FRONT SUSPENSION IS MAKING A KNOCKING OR THUMPING SOUND. THE NOISE CAN BE HEARD INSIDE THE CAR BUT NOT OUTSIDE THE CAR. THE NOISE APPEARS ON HOT SUMMER DAYS AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 30 - 60 MINUTES. THE NOISE IS PRIMARILY HEARD AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. SOMETIMES IT CAN BE FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL OR BRAKE PEDAL. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A KANSAS CITY AREA HONDA DEALER BUT THE NOISE WAS NOT DUPLICATED BECAUSE THE CAR SAT FOR A WHILE AND WAS NOT DRIVEN FOR 30 - 60 MINUTES. THERE ARE TWO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON SAFERCAR.GOV. A TEXAN RECENTLY REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE HONDAACCORDFORUM.COM. HE REPORTS THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THEY HAD THREE SIMILAR REPORTS AND THE FIX IS TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT KNUCKLES AND BEARINGS. HE SAID THE HONDA TECH LINE IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. HE WONDERS WHY A SERVICE BULLETIN OR RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED BECAUSE IT COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF STEERING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THAT SOMETHING SHOULD BE FORMALLY DONE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. REQUEST NHTSA INITIATE A DEFECTS INVESTIGATION. *TR
THIS COMPLAINT REGARDS MY 2010 HONDA ACCORD. AT AROUND 21,500 MILES, I NOTICED MY VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING A HUMMING SOUND TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS SOUND WOULD INCREASE AS THE CAR ACCELERATED AND DECREASE AS THE CAR DECELERATED. WHEN I BROUGHT MY ACCORD IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON 04/24/12, I INFORMED THE DESK AGENT AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP OF THE NOISE. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE NOISE STEMMED FROM A WHEEL BEARING THAT HAD GONE BAD ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. ALTHOUGH THIS MALFUNCTION WAS STILL COVERED UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE, I FELT THE NEED TO REPORT THIS PROBLEM AS THIS WAS A PREMATURE MALFUNCTION OF A VERY CRUCIAL PART TO MY VEHICLE. IT SEEMS AS IF THE DAMAGE OCCURRED WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF, AND I CUT THE WHEEL TO GET A BETTER VANTAGE POINT UNDER MY WHEEL WELL. I MAKE THIS ASSUMPTION SINCE I HADN'T HEARD THE NOISE BEFORE DOING THIS, AND THEN THE FIRST TIME I DROVE MY CAR AFTER DOING THIS, WHICH HAPPENED TO BE AN HOUR LATER, THE NOISE BECAME APPARENT. MANY OTHER PERSONS THAT OWN A SIMILAR VEHICLE AS MINE MAY NOT THINK MUCH OF THIS NOISE IF THEIR VEHICLE(S) HAVE SIMILAR MILEAGE SUCH AS MINE SINCE WHEEL BEARINGS TYPICALLY LAST MUCH LONGER THAN THIS. THIS COULD BE A CATASTROPHIC MISTAKE IF THIS ASSUMPTION IS MADE, SO I FIGURED IT PRUDENT TO ADVISE ON MY EXPERIENCE IN CASE THIS WERE TO HAPPEN TO ANOTHER VEHICLE OWNER OR LESSEE IN A SIMILAR SITUATION TO MINE. FOR THE RECORD, MY CAR HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN ADVERSE CONDITIONS. *JS
AT 20,000 MILES THE VEHICLE HAD A FAILED WHEEL BEARING (NOISE/VIBRATION), PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT. DRIVER-SIDE FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED AT 34,000 MILES. DEALER REPLACED THE HUB/BEARING ASSEMBLIES UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A DEFECT, AS THE BEARINGS SHOULD NOT FAIL AT SUCH A LOW MILEAGE. HOW LONG WILL THE REPLACEMENT BEARINGS LAST ? *TR
PURCHASED 2010 HONDA ACCORD MARCH 29, 2010. WITHIN 2 WEEKS A KNOCKING OR POPPING NOISE STARTED FROM THE FRONT END. PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE. SO LOUD THAT I THOUGHT THE TIRES WERE ABOUT TO FALL OFF. AFTER 5 TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP I WAS FINALLY TOLD THAT IT WAS THE BALL JOINTS, BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT ON THE FRONT END. THREE OF THE 5 TRIPS WAS TOLD THAT THE NOISE COULD NOT BE RE-EMULATED, AND NOTHING WAS DONE. THE SECOND TRIP IN, THE NOISE WAS HEARD BY A TECHNICIAN AND WAS TOLD THAT "A FEW BOLTS WERE LOOSE ON THE SWAY BAR". THE NOISE CAME BACK WITHIN 2 DAYS. FINALLY CAME IN AND REQUESTED A MANAGER TO DRIVE THE CAR TO HEAR THE NOISE, THAT IS WHEN BALL JOINTS WERE ORDERED AND REPLACED THE FOLLOWING WEEK. THROUGH ALL OF THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY SAFE AND NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT! *TR
PURCHASE A 2010 HONDA ACCORD ON 5/24/10 - SINCE THE PURCHASE THE CAR HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES FOR "POPPING/KNOCKING" ON THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE. FIRST I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A LOOSE BOLT ON THE SUSPENSION, THE SECOND TIME I WAS TOLD IT WAS AGAIN LOOSE BOLTS ON THE SUSPENSION - CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER FOR THIRD TIME AWAITING RESPONSE. I BOUGHT A NEW 2010 HONDA ACCORD AT MARIN HONDA IN LARKSPUR, CALIFORNIA ON SUNDAY 1/31/2010. BUT I DID NOT PICK UP THE CAR UNTIL MONDAY 2/1/2010 BECAUSE THE CAR WAS "NOT PREPARED" ON SUNDAY EVENING. I DROVE THE CAR HOME FROM THE DEALER IN THE AFTERNOON ON 2/1/2010 AND I BEGAN TO NOTICE A RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE HOOD ON DRIVER SIDE. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER ON TUESDAY MORNING WHERE A MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT THE NOISE MAYBE COMING FROM THE DEFECTIVE HOUSING UNIT OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER. THE MECHANIC ORDERED THE NEW PART BUT IT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL NEXT WEEK. THE NOISE HAS BEEN PERSISTENT AND GETTING STRONGER/LOUDER WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND WHEN THE CAR IS IDLING AT INTERSECTION. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO APPEARED TO SHAKE WHENEVER THIS LOUD RATTLING NOISE CAME OUT. I AM AFRAID THAT THIS PROBLEM MAYBE MORE THAT JUST A DEFECTIVE HOUSING PART OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER, HENCE I AM REPORTING THIS TO ASSURE THAT ELECTRICAL PROBLEM OR BRAKES PROBLEM ARE NOT THE ISSUE FOR HONDA (IN LIEU OF WHAT IS GOING ON WITH TOYOTA CARS AT THE PRESENT TIME). PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THE NEW MODEL HONDA ACCORD. I HAD BEEN A LOYAL CUSTOMER OF HONDA BUT THIS INCIDENCE IS MAKING ME VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR QUALITY ASSURANCE SERVICE BEFORE RELEASING NEW CARS INTO THE MARKET.
