Your brake pedal feels soft or sinks when you apply brakes at low speeds. General Motors has issued a recall for a vacuum pump issue that causes this problem, but your vehicle's VIN does not appear to be included in that recall.

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle started losing motive power. The accelerator pedal was depressed and the engine revved; however, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over, and after several attempts, the vehicle restarted. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a local dealer and failed to exceed 10 MPH. The dealer was able to diagnose the vehicle and determined that the torque converter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating and stalled. The contact stated that again, there were no warning lights. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove the vehicle back to the same dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the fuel injectors failed, and the contact had taken the vehicle to a different dealer. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but was difficult to depress. The contact allowed the vehicle to coast and was able to pull off the road. The contact slowed down to approximately 2 MPH and was able to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was turned off and restarted to reset the braking functionality. The contact was out of town and took the vehicle to a dealer to be diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000.
I was test driving this 2017 Sierra 1500 SLT and experienced issues while braking. Issues with brakes as the vacuum level drops the brake assist decreases which meant I had to use excessive force to get the vehicle to stop. No warning light, nothing to tell me there is a low pressure brake. This could result in a fatality if a small animal or child walks/runs in front of the truck while truck is moving forward or backwards at low speeds. The dealer doesn’t acknowledge any recall on this vehicle because it isn’t noted as such with GM. I worry that all of the other recalls (4 others) may be an issue too, which include Frontal Airbags not deploying during an accident, faulty wheel sensor causes opposite wheel to engage and cause the vehicle to pull to one side, fuel leak, and child seat anchoring restraint instructions not included in the owners manual.
My 2017 GMC Sierra Brakes started acting up a slow speed it would seem like there were no Brakes or Pedal would push very hard. I pulled into a parking space at the store and it was like I had no Brakes had to push pedal very hard and Thank god there wasn’t a car in front of me because I would have hit it. The truck has new front and back Brakes and Rotors put. The truck was throwing some codes and 3 out of the 4 codes pointed to faulty Vacume pump. I pull a camper and sometimes a side x side so this is very concerning and I hoping to get this expense covered by Recall like all the other Models with the same issues. I really don’t know why my truck isn’t being Recalled. This has been a good truck for me no complaints tell this.
2017 GMC Sierra almost hit a parked car in the store parking lot. Pedal was hard push down . Also when moving truck around in my yard at times the pedal is hard other times sounds like there is Air in the lines. Truck has all new Brakes and Rotors all the way around. I pull a Camper and Side x Side at times so this is scary.
I was slowing down in a parking lot to park. I applied the brake and the pedal was very stiff and the vehicle wound not stop. I finally stood on the pedal and it acted as though the antilock activated and started shuttering. It finally stopped without damage. A warning of service brake assist displayed on the dash. This began to happen about 3 months ago intermittently, but now is a more frequent action. I have not taken it to the dealer and thought of replacing the brake vacuum pump but don't know what to do. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a great day! [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Brakes at low speed do not work well, causing extended braking distance. Looks to be a previous vacuum brake pump issue, but is no recall on it now.
The vehicle has no power assist when at low RPMs and is a hazard that may cause an accident.
THE AFFECTED VEHICLE IS A 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500 4X4 CREW CAB TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 34K MILES. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TODAY THE BRAKES BECAME VERY HARD, LIKE A LOSS OF POWER BRAKES. FELT LIKE THERE WAS A LOSS OF VACUMN. AT SLOW SPEED IN REVERSE THE BRAKES "SHUDDERED" WHEN APPLIED. HAVE NOT TAKEN IT TO A DEALER AS IT JUST HAPPENED WHILE TRAVELING. CHECHED FOR INFORMATION FOR SYMPTOMS ONLINE AND FOUND GM HAD INITIATED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE SO I CHECKED THE NHTS WEB SITE TO SEE IT MY VEHICLE HAD A RECALL. SYSTEM INDICATED 0 UNREPAIRED RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE. SO WANTED TO REPORT THE ISSUE.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at low speeds, the brake pedal was depressed, and the pedal remained on the floorboard. Additionally, the vehicle failed to slow down as intended. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
At low speeds I have no brakes.
The incident occurred on [XXX]. My vehicle has 54,571 miles on it. The power brake assist function failed. I was backing into a parking space at a local fast food chain and experienced near brake failure. I had to stand, nearly full body weight pressure, on the brake pedal to get my truck to stop at very slow speed. I, again, backed a short distance of a couple of feet at the most and experienced the same issue when I tried to stop. I placed the vehicle in PARK and turned the engine and ignition key off, thinking the system possibly needed to reset. I started the truck and drove forward, very slowly, to another parking space and applied the brakes. I experienced near total brake failure again. I had my truck into Brogden GMC in Olathe, Kansas on [XXX], for general maintenance and a “brake pressure recall.” I had experienced a slight brake pressure issue on a couple of occasions prior to the recall. After the recall service was performed I did not experience a braking concern for some time. I did experience “soft braking” a couple of times after the recall was performed and attributed it worn brakes. On [XXX], at 50,596 miles, I upgraded my brakes by installing a Power Stop Z36 brake kit with slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I have not had a repeated experience of soft braking or brake failure until the [XXX] incident that I am currently reporting. It appears to me that the earlier recall did not completely address the brake failure issue with my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 pick-up. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When I hit the brakes it has no stopping power, hard to push brake pedal and when sitting at a complete stop it has been known to start going even though I have foot on brake.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while coming to a stop at slow speeds, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal felt spongey, causing the braking distance to become extended. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact learned of NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and linked the failure to the recall. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
It takes quite the amount of force to stop the vehicle brake pedal started feeling spongy and seems like it doesn’t have enough pressure constantly I have no brake fluid leaks or air in my lines it all comes down to the brake booster it seems like and I know a few vehicles had this problem but mine says it wasn’t but I believe it has been affected.
At low speeds the brake pedal gets hard and it feels like the antilock brake system is activating, I believe this is the issue with the Brake booster vacuum pump. GM isn't calling this a safety issue.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while parking at 5 MPH, the instrument panel went black intermittently. The brake pedal was firm and had failed to operate as needed. The brake pedal was pushed to the floorboard. The service brake assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was diagnosed however, the cause of the failure was not found. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
Service Trailer Brake System Defaulting and is taking more time to stop my 2017 GMC Sierra Truck.
Brakes intermittently quit working at slow speeds. Sometimes while pushing on the brake pedal, the brakes don't respond, I have to increase the force placed on brake pedal. There is also a pulsating sensation at the pedal like the ABS is being applied, even though I am traveling at slow speeds, and it takes much longer to stop the vehicle. There are no warning lights that come on and there is nothing on the message center stating there is an issue. Has happened multiple time, usually in a parking lot, or in stop and go traffic. Also has happened when vehicle is in Reverse. Have never had the issue at highway speeds.
The brake line in the middle of the car broke because it's rusty, and all brake fluid is out, vehicle not braking
Backing up no brake assist and very hard to stop, not all the time but once happened going down boat ramp...
2017 GMC Sierra K1500 with 59,xxx miles. Recently noted braking issues with vehicle in parking lots or at slower speeds. The brakes are difficult to engage. I do not notice this issue when driving at higher speeds. On 3/27/23, I backed the vehicle out of my driveway and had a near miss collision as it was very difficult to engage the brakes and stop the vehicle. After the near miss, the brakes, calipers, and rotors were inspected and all were in good working condition. I contacted the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. The representative from the dealership informed me that this braking issue was addressed as a previous recall for N192268490 ZPSR (Product Safety Recall) on 5/24/21. On 5/24/21, I took the truck into the dealership for another issue and this recall was addressed at the same time. I was not having any issues with the brakes at that time. The representative informed me that the recall was closed on the truck, and they now charge $200/hr if I want to bring the vehicle in for service. The current braking issues appear directly related to the reported braking recall issue that was reportedly repaired on 5/24/21. The vehicle is not safe to drive and would appreciate assistance from the NHTSA to safely resolve the issue.
There has been a recall on the assisted braking pump. My truck is not on that recall as of now. But I am having the same braking trouble at slow speeds. Is there any way the company will fix this issue.
Brakes do not work a low speeds such as in parking area very hard to press brake pedal to stop vehicle.
The trailer brake system is displaying a warning. The truck has less than 50,000 miles and the tow option has never been used. I am told that it would be risky to use it without repair. this is a safety issue that should be a recall. I have checked and there are thousands with the same issue and it has gone on for years without being addressed by GM or NHTSA. It's time to step up and take care of this situation. There is no telling how many have been injured or killed by this. if nothing is done I will approach someone in the media.
While parking I was backing up to straighten the truck in the space. When I went to stop I noticed that "normal" pedal pressure was not stopping the truck and I could tell vacuum was not available to boost the brakes, causing me to have to "stand on the pedal", almost causing me to hit the car behind me. I purchased the truck used four months ago and when checking recalls the nhtsa says none are open so I assume it has been addressed but didn't fix the issue obviously.
Low speed brake assist failure in traffic.. Caused me to bump the person in front of me... Then a few days later I got the "service brake assist " on my dash.. Then my gmc app sent me a service soon warning... 2017 gmc sierra denali at 62500 miles.
I was pulling in to a parking spot and pressed the brakes and the truck didn’t stop and I hit the sign. When I looked at the dash there was a “service brake assist “ warning on.
I am experiencing hard brake pedal and/or brake fade when attempting to apply the brakes. Their is a recall for this problem on other models, however my truck model year is not included for some reason. This has occurred on multiple occasions and has nearly caused an accident on those occasions. My truck also began to roll out of a parking spot and I had extremely hard brake pressure but no response from the brakes.
My 2017 GMC Sierra is experiencing similar issues with excessive force required, vibration in brake pedal at low speeds, and delays in stopping as found on 2018 and up trucks and SUVs. I notified the dealership about a year ago about the issue and it potentially being linked to the recall and they said it wasn't and they would have to charge me to inspect and repair. The issue can obviously lead to an accident if the brakes continue to worsen and fail. Also abrupt stopping at low speeds doesn't work efficiently putting anyone who steps out in front of my vehicle or stops abruptly in front of me at risk. A couple of times there was a diagnostics alert sent to my email stating an "issue with the antilock braking system was detected". There are already accidents reported with 2018 and up vehicles because of this issue. I feel the recall for the 2018 and up vehicles needs to be extended to 2017 vehicles to prevent accidents.
When pressing the brakes a few time at a low speed Iose brake power. There is already a recall out for this model but not my vin. This is my recall issue Brake Assist Decreased Due to Vacuum Loss
The service message appeared on the display after backing up "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" I searched this issue and found over 65 complaints for this vehicle year/make /model. I am at work and fear driving home as this issue has resulted in brake failure on some of the complaints noted. I have not contacted anyone yet, I wanted a recall notice as this is a safety issue and we cannot afford any costly vehicle repairs.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra. The contact stated while driving and coming to a stop, the vehicle lost braking functionality. The contact had to desperately depress the brake pedal for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and offered no additional assistance. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 46,000.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra LD. The contact stated that on two separate occasions while driving at approximately 50 MPH, the front passenger side wheel locked inadvertently. As a result, another vehicle crashed into the attached trailer which caused the trailer to jackknife. The driver alert warning light illuminated. The air bags failed to deploy. No medical attention was required. No injuries were sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact then stated that on a separate occasion while driving at normal speed, the front passenger side wheel inadvertently locked without warning. As a result, the strut detached from the control arm which caused the attached trailer to detach and crashed into the vehicle that caused the vehicle to crash into a ditch. the rear passenger side air bags deployed however, the front driver and passenger side air bags failed to deploy. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact’s residence and then towed to a collision center. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact referenced an unknown NHTSA recall related to the Service Brakes, Hydraulic as a possible cause. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,117.
Hi I purchased this used 2017 GMC Sierra Denali on October of 2021 it’s been just only one year and while on the road with my trailer attached , I suddenly got a pop up on my display saying “service trailer brake system “ which caused me to be distracted with the chime and the warning being displayed repeatedly and overall left me with no power at all to my trailer brakes I would like to have this recalled and fixed at little to no cost due to the fact of the cheap and unsafe parts that are installed on these types of trucks by GMC
A Service "Trailer Brake System" message keeps coming up on my display constantly, over and over and over, I can't see the speed display, I can't hear the turn signal sound, it's extremally distracting and loud. When I looked this message up I found the wiring was faulty and my trailer brakes won't work.
Loss of power assist at slow speed when backing or going forward. This has happened several times since I have had the vehicle. Brake pedal is very hard to press and vibrates.
EBCM needs to be reprogrammed. Larry Stovesand GMC in Paducah, KY will NOT service my recall because it was closed on 2019, research has shown that this programming may need to be done again. After telling them this info. they are now saying that they will not service my recall because it has a salvaged title. After researching how a salvaged title is still honorable for a free recall service they are now telling me to take it somewhere else.
Driving on the highway going approximately 64mph and the traffic lane shifted over and everyone started to slow down and when I went to apply some brake . The pedal got very hard and became very hard to push down effecting my ability to brake properly. This almost caused me to get into an accident and I had to shoot over to the breakdown lane giving me enough time to slow down. My pedal became very hard to push down. This problem continued throughout my travel and service brake assist came on after the fact
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, he heard an abnormal noise and while depressing on the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to decelerate. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to cruise to the side of the roadway until the vehicle decelerated. The contact stated he shifted into reverse to stop the vehicle completely, before shifting into park. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to his residence. The contact stated he had an independent mechanic come to his residence and he was informed that the brake caliper and the front passenger’s side brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired but was pending repairs. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 53,579.
Brakes have stopped working while driving down the road, previously they have occasionally glitches out primarily for example when I pull into a drive through restaurant or in a parking area. Service Brake Assist pops up.
The brakes are failing especially after braking while on an incline . Pressure on the pedal becomes mushy then hard and will not stop the vehicle. The truck has 90,000 miles on it. A brake assist light came on while backing down a hill and braking .
Leaving a parking lot and had a complete loss of brakes due to faulty vacuum pump.
Still having the slow parking problem. Almost hit a car today when trying to stop while parking truck. Software update by dealer did not fix the problem. This happens every time I try to park and/or slow stopping at a crosswalk.
Panel message with beep Saying: SERVICE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM
While backing up I hit the brakes and the pedal made a clicking noise. I pumped the brakes and it stopped. This has happen several times over the past several months. I made a compliant to the dealer while under warranty and they found nothing wrong. 62000 current miles on the vehicle. Safety issue???
While in a parking lot, I tried to slowly move forward and then come to a pause. My brakes didn't work quite right and the vehicle didn't stop for an additional 15-20 feet from where I would have liked to stop. Luckily I was just moving forward to get out of the way of another vehicle trying to drive behind me and I didn't have anything directly in front of me that I needed to stop before. If I was trying to stop for a pedestrian I would have certainly hit them. If I was trying to stop behind a vehicle who suddenly stopped I would have ran into the back of their vehicle. There has been a recall on similar vehicles; same make, model and year as mine for what appears to be the same issue. Recall # 19V645000 This has also happened in my garage while pulling in, and in another parking situation. The Service Brake Assist warning comes on the Information screen.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds or parking the vehicle while depressing the brake pedal, he heard an abnormal noise and the vehicle failed to stop completely. The contact stated that the service brakes warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that he continued to experience failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.
My brake pedal randomly gets extremely hard, causing my truck to not be able to stop as it should. This almost caused me to read end the vehicle in front putting everyone in danger. There are no warning lights on. There is a recall for this issue that my model year falls under however my vin says no open recalls. It’s a booster vacuum seal problem with the breaks. Very frustrating that my truck is experiencing this recall issue but is not included. This causes a huge safety issue.
I was backing my boat into the water at a boat ramp and my brakes got very hard to push when I was backing into the water. I had to stand on the brakes to get it to stop, if my wife had been backing the truck in, it would have been in the lake. I see that there are no recalls on this vehicle. I bought it about four months ago and don't know the history of any recalls that have been done. I also had the transmission problem with the shimmy, and per the GM dealer flushed the fluid and the shimmy has all but disappeared. I am glad, because when I ask if it didn't repair it would the transmission be covered under warranty, he said no because of the mileage. These reasons are probably why the guy traded it in in the first place.
Stiff brake pedal at low speeds and brake assist error message
LOW SPEED BRAKING ISSUE. WAS IN A PARKING LOT TRYING TO PARK MOVING ABOUT 1 OR 2 MPH. TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP AND IT WAS LIKE THERE WHERE NO BRAKES UNTIL I PRESSED AS HARD AS I COULD. DOES NOT DO THIS AT NORMAL SPEEDS
ON 9/2019 THEY SUPPOSEDLY DID THE REPROGRAM TO FIX THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING ISSUE ON MY TRUCK. IT IS NOW DOING THE VERY SAME ISSUE AGAIN. I GO TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP AND FEEL LIKE ITS NOT SLOWING DOWN AND I PUMP THE PEDAL TO GET A GOOD PEDAL TO STOP. IT DOES THIS QUITE FREQUENT NOW. IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME SEE IF THIS CAN BE DONE AGAIN UNDER RECALL?
THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD AT LOW IDLE, AND YOU HAVE TO STAND ON BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. TYPICALLY HAPPENS WHEN TRYING TO BACK IN A PARKING SPOT OR IN STOP & GO TRAFFIC THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES HARD TO PUSH AND TRUCK DOESN'T STOP AS QUICKLY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ACCELERATING AT 85 MPH, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY DECELERATED TO 70 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE THROTTLE NO LONGER OPERATED AS NEEDED. THE CONTACT HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO FAULKNER BUICK GMC TREVOSE (4427 E STREET RD, FEASTERVILLE-TREVOSE, PA 19053) ON TWO OCCASIONS HOWEVER, THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A FAILURE. THE CONTACT THEN SPOKE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM THAT THE DEFECT MAY BE LINKED TO A SPEED SENSOR AND A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,906.*DT*JB
WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES IT DOESN'T WANT TO STOP AND I HAVE TO PUSH IT DOWN AGAIN ALMOST LIKE THERE IS A ISSUE WITH THE VACUUM ON THE BRAKES BUT IT SAYS MY VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL BUT THE SYMPTOMS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE RECALL.
AS I WAS BACK MY BOAT IN AT BOAT RAMP BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD TO PRESS DOWN HAD TO ALMOST STAND ON THEM TO KEEP FROM TRUCK GOING IN THE WATER. I RESEARCHED THIS AND SEEN WHERE GM HAS A RECALL ON THE VACUUM PUMP BUT I CALL THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THEY WASN'T A RECALL.
GMC SIERRA WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR EXISTING RECALL REGARDING BRAKING. DEALER INDICATED RECALL HAD BEEN RESOLVED. WHILE BACKING THE TRUCK ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS SINCE RECALL ADDRESSED, BRAKES BECOME MUCH LESS RESPONSIVE WITH CLICKING SOUND. BRAKES BECOME HARD TO PRESS AND DO NOT STOP VEHICLE COMPLETE. THIS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE TOWING A BOAT DOWN RAMP. THE VEHICLE HAS 28,000 MILES AND THE ISSUE DID NOT OCCUR PRIOR TO ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THE MOST RECENT TIME WAS TONIGHT WHILE BACKING ON LEVEL GROUND INTO GARAGE. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS, BUT THE RECALL WAS NOT ADEQUATELY PERFORMED OR DID NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
AT LOW SPEED OR MOST OF THE TIME BACKING UP BRAKES DO NOT WORK WELL AT ALL. NEED TO PUSH VERY HARD.
I WAS DRIVING ON I-4 TOWARDS ORLANDO AT 70MPH FOLLOWING A SAFE DISTANCE TRAFFIC WAS COMING TO STOP AND I WENT TO BRAKE AND THE BRAKES WOULDNT WORK PROPERLY AND CAUSE ME TO PULL VEHCILE TO ONE SIDE CAUSING ME TO CRASH SAW LIFE FLASH BEFORE EYES . THANKFUL TO BE ALIVE , COMES TO FIND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT
WHEN I GOING IN REVERSE THE PEDAL BRAKE DOENST WORK
I OWN TWO GMC SIERRA TRUCKS YEARS 2014 AND 2017 BOTH TRUCKS HAVE SEVERE LOCK UP ISSUES. I HAVE GONE TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY RESET THE COMPUTER BUT THE BRAKES STILL LOCK UP. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD, AND MY WIFE AND I ARE EXTREMELY SCARED THAT WE WILL BE IN A FATAL ACCIDENT. THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL TIMES WHERE WE HAVE ALMOST HIT A CAR OR PERSON WALKING. I AM REALLY CONCERNED THAT THESE VEHICLES WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. MY CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS IN MY TRUCKS END IT IS EXTREMELY SCARY WHEN EVERY TIME I HIT THE BRAKES I AM NOT SURE IF IT WILL STOP OR NOT. THIS IS AN IMPERATIVE MATTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED 2017 GMC SIERRA LD. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V645000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) AT LOCAL DEALER DON JOHNSON MOTORS CHEVROLET BUICK GMC (734 WEST AVE, RICE LAKE, WI 54868), HOWEVER, THE FAILURE REOCCURRED. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH TRAFFIC HAS STOPPED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED HOWEVER THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP,CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND GUARDRAIL.THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOW ARD, AFTER ELEVEN DAYS IT WAS TOWED TO LOCAL DEALER PALM CHEVROLET (2300 SW COLLEGE RD, OCALA, FL 34471) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VACUUM PUMP, SENOR ,AND A BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TRADED FOR A 2018 CHEVY IMPALA.THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE WAS OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. *BF *AS
AFTER PARKING AND BACKING UP WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES, THEY GOT HARD AND DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. WHEN PULLING FORWARD THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO OPERATE AND BARELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. AFTER SITTING A WHILE AND RESTARTING THE TRUCK THEY OPERATED AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. NOT SURE IF THIS IS AN OPERABLE SAFETY ISSUE BUT, IT WAS VERY CONCERNING THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY.
TRUCK WAS RECALLED FOR BRAKES. RECALL COMPLETED WAS COMPUTER ISSUE. THAT RECALL CAUSED BRAKE VACUUM TO MALFUNCTION. ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. 70 MPH IN DALLAS TX TRAFFIC. HAD TO SLOW DOWN QUICKLY. ONCE IT SLOWED DOWN THEN IT WOULDN'T STOP!!! GOT IT TO A PARKING GARAGE ALMOST HIT 3 VEHS. IT WAS TRAUMATIC. GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED. NOT HAPPY!!!!! GM EXTENDED THE BRAKE WARRANTY TO 150000 MILES. THAT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER. THEY PUT SAME PART BACK ON. SO I GUESS IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. I'M VERY LEARY OF MY TRUCK.
MY 2017 GMC SIERRA DENALI HAD ALREADY BEEN THE SUBJECT OF THE RECALL RELATING TO THE BRAKE ISSUE. SHORTLY AFTER THEY PERFORMED THIS RECALL WORK THE BRAKES BEGAN FAILING AT LOW SPEED. WHEN DRIVING BELOW 5 MPH, THE PEDAL WHICH SUDDENLY FALL AND THE ABS WOULD TRIGGER. DURING THIS TIME, THE CAR WOULD CONTINUE MOVING WITH THE ABS FULLY VIBRATING. THANKFULLY, MY TRAILER HITCH ABSORB THE REAR IMPACT AGAINST A WALL. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. I THEN TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND THEY REPORTED THAT THERE HAS BEEN A SIGNIFICANT FAILURE RATE OF THE VACUUM ASSIST. THE DEALER REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP AND VACUUM LINES. I'M EXTREMELY CONCERNED THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN TO SOMEONE ELSE NEAR AN INTERSECTION, NOT JUST SLOWLY BACKING INTO PARKING SPACES. I HAVE CONTACTED GMC BY EMAIL BUT STILL HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE OR ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF MY COMMUNICATIONS.
MY BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL. I BELIEVE MY VACUUM PUMP IS GOING BACK ON MY TRUCK. I NOTICED LAST WEEK THAT I WAS DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND COMING TO A STOP SIGN AND I PRESSED MY BRAKES AND IT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAD TO RELEASE THE BRAKE AND SLAM ON THE BRAKES AGAIN ALMOST CAUSING A ACCIDENT WITH INCOMING TRAFFIC. I CALLED ALL MY LOCAL DEALERSHIPS AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS JUST YET FOR MY TRUCK, BUT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE VACUUM PUMP. THEY STATED THEY ALREADY DID THE SOFTWARE UPDATE TO MY TRUCK BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2019. MY TRUCK WAS GOING MAYBE 10 MPH TO A STOP SIGN AND I APPLIED MY BRAKES ONCE AND WAS NOT COMPLETELY STOPPING, SO I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND IT GOT WORSE AND I HAD THE BRAKES PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. THIS IS NOT SAFE! THIS IS MY DAILY DRIVER AND I DROP MY KIDS OFF TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND ITS NOT A GOOD FEELING KNOWING MY BRAKES CAN GO OUT AT ANY TIME!
IN MY DRIVEWAY ON DRY PAVEMENT AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP SATISFACTORY. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS THEN PRESSED UNTIL IT WAS VERY HARD THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE BUT SLOWLY BEGAN TO STOP. WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE MAXIMUM AND A FIRM PEDAL A NOISE COULD BE HEARD FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE NOISE SOUNDED LIKE A MOAN, SIMILAR TO THE BRAKE ANTI SKID SYSTEM BEING ACTIVATED. I WAS ABLE TO SIMULATE THIS BRAKING PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE BACKING UP AND MOVING FORWARD AT SLOW SPEEDS. CYCLING THE IGNITION ON AND OFF DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.
REFERENCE THE COMPLAINT NUMBER 11306627. THE VEHICLE HAD THE BRAKE RECALL NOTICE N192268490 COMPLIED WITH AT THE DEALER IN NOVEMBER 2019. THE VEHICLE THEN EXPERIENCED A BRAKE FAILURE IN FEBRUARY 2020. PLEASE ADD THIS INFORMATION TO MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT.
BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES VERY HARD TO DEPRESS AT SLOW SPEED AND VERY HARD TO STOP. USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN IN SLOW TRAFFIC AND AFTER THE PEDAL IS DEPRESS MORE THAN 2-3 TIMES IN A ROW.
OCTOBER 2019 WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE BREAKS WORKED ON GIVEN RECENT RECALL ABOUT THE MECHANICAL VACUUM PUMP OUTPUT MAY DECREASE OVER TIME, DECREASING THE AMOUNT OF VACUUM/POWER BRAKE ASSIST. HOWEVER, SHORTLY AFTER GETTING THE RECALL DONE ON MY TRUCK (1 WEEK LATER) I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT BACKING UP OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT AND THE BREAK PEDAL BECAME REALLY STIFF AND I COULDN'T PUSH HARD ENOUGH TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING. I JUST KEPT ROLLING UNTIL I HIT THE CURB. SO FAR THIS HAS HAPPENED A DOZEN TIMES AND ALL WHEN I WAS MOVING ABOUT 5 MILES AN HOUR THE EXACT SAME WAY, PEDAL BECOMES STIFF AND I COULDN'T STOP THE TRUCK FROM MOVING. I FEEL LIKE THINGS ARE WORSE NOW AFTER GETTING THE RECALL DONE. THIS WAS NEVER AN ISSUE BEFORE AND AS I LOOK AT THE RECALL NOTICE, IT STATE INCOMPLETE, TELLING ME POSSIBLY THE MANUFACTURE KNOWS THERE'S STILL AN ISSUE BUT NO FIX HAS BEEN DONE YET, EVEN AFTER 4 MONTHS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 50 MPH, INCREASED BRAKING EFFORT WAS REQUIRED IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DOW LEWIS MOTORS DEALER (530-763-2923, LOCATED AT 2913 COLUSA HWY, YUBA CITY, CA 95993) WHERE IT WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V645000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER, IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO CONFIRM WHEN THE PARTS WERE TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT PROVIDED A LOANER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
VEHICLE FREQUENTLY EXHIBITS LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. WHEN THIS OCCURS, SOMETHING SOUNDING LIKE THE ABS SYSTEMS IS SOMETIMES ENGAGED BY THE VEHICLE AND OTHER TIMES NOT. WHILE GM CLAIMS BRAKING PERFORMANCE MEETS FEDERAL STANDARDS, THE BRAKING POWER IS GREATLY REDUCED WHEN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS ENGAGED AND ALMOST NON-EXISTENT WHEN NEITHER VACUUM PUMP NOR THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FUNCTIONS. EVEN IF THE BRAKING PERFORMANCE MEETS FEDERAL STANDARDS, IT CREATES A DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN THE DRIVER IS NOT EXPECTING A FAILURE. A GMC DEALERSHIP HAS ADMITTED THERE IS AN ISSUE AND RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE VACUUM PUMP BUT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SOURCE THE PARTS IN OVER TWO WEEKS AND HAS NO ETA FOR WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. MEANWHILE THE BRAKING POWER LOSS CONDITION OCCURS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. DURING THE FIRST INSTANCE, I WAS TOWING A TRAVEL TRAILER IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC DOWN A 7% GRADE. HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE TRAILER BRAKES, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE INVOLVED BACKING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND NEARLY CAUSING A COLLISION BECAUSE OF POOR BRAKING PERFORMANCE. NOW THAT I FULLY AWARE OF THE ISSUE, THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN SPARINGLY (ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NEEDED) AND WITH GREAT CARE. THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THIS ISSUE BY GM AS NOT BEING A GRAVE SAFETY CONCERN IS INACCURATE. THEIR INABILITY TO SOURCE PARTS IN A TIMELY MANNER IS INEXCUSABLE.
FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MY BRAKES ARE MY MAIN ISSUE AND SAFETY PROBLEM. I NEARLY RAN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. MY TRUCKS BRAKES LOSE PRESSURE AFTER THE FIRST INITIAL STOP COMING TO ANY TRAFFIC LIGHTS, STOP SIGN, SLOW TRAFFIC, PARKING LOTS ETC... NO MATTER HOW SLOW OR FAST THE TRUCKS MOVEMENT IS. FIRST BREAK ATTEMPT IS OK BUT 2ND STARTS LOSING PRESSURE AND 3RD ATTEMPT IS COMPLETE LOST OF PRESSURE ANF AND THE TRUCK JUST ROLLS UNTIL IT SLOWLY COMES TO A STOP. I WORRY ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND OTHERS MOTORIST REGARDING THIS ISSUE. MY SECOND COMPLAINT IS MY DRIVER SIDE MIRROR. EVERY TIME I GET INTO MY TRUCK AND START IT. MY DRIVER SIDE MIRROR MOVES OUT OF ITS SETTING AND I CONSTANTLY HAVE TO FIX IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE BRAKES FAILED TO ADEQUATELY SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MASTRIA BUICK GMC (1525 NEW STATE HWY, RAYNHAM, MA 02767, (508) 880-7000) TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V645000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE AFTER THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. *BF *TR
THE PAST MONTH AS I PUSH ON THE BRAKES DRIVING ON THE ROAD MY STEERING WHEEL STARTS TO SHAKE AS THE BRAKES ARE BEING APPLIED. DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME HAS ACTUALLY ONLY HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN A MONTH.
WHILE BRAKING PEDAL FEELS LIKE GURGLING AND AT TIMES COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER ASSIST MAKING PEDAL VERY HARD TO DEPRESS ALL WERE IN MOTION AND INTERMITTENT MAKING DEALER DIAGNOSIS DIFFICULT AND NOT YET ABLE TO REPLICATE SO DEALER REFUSES TO DO WORK
LOST BRAKE ASSIST. COMING TO A STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WHET TO THE FLOOR AND THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES STARTED CHATTERING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD AS A ROCK AND TOOK 2 FEET TO STOP. I WAS ON A 170 MILE TRIP AND ALMOST HIT SOMEONE 2 TIMES.
ORIGINAL ISSUE: BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO PUSH AND TRUCK DID NOT STOP NORMALLY AT LOW SPEEDS. COULD REPRODUCE ISSUE USUALLY PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT. MY VEHICLE WOULD HAVE HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME IF I HADN'T USED EBRAKE. TOOK TO DEALER, DEALER APPLIED SOFTWARE UPDATE TO BRAKING SYSTEM. UPON PICKUP I DISCOVERED THE ORIGINAL ISSUE PERSISTED AND NOW HAD AN ADDITIONAL ISSUE. NOW AT ALMOST EVERY BRAKE EVENT, THE ABS WOULD ENGAGE AND CAUSE THE BRAKE PETAL TO CHATTER/VIBRATE. DEALER AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE TRIED TO TELL ME THAT WAS NORMAL AFTER THE RECALL UPDATE. I TOLD THEM THAT COULDN'T BE NORMAL. IT WASN'T HAPPENING BEFORE. AFTER NOT EXCEPTING THAT AS A FIX, THE DEALERSHIP STARTED LOOKING FOR OTHER POSSIBILITY'S. AFTER TELLING THE DEALER I WAS GOING TO TAKE THE TRUCK SOMEWHERE ELSE THEY DECIDED TO REPLACE THE VACUUM PUMP. THE NEW VACUUM PUMP FIXED BOTH ISSUES! I'M JUST SAYING IF THE RECALL UPDATE IS CAUSING MORE PROBLEMS THEN WHAT IT WAS INTENDED TO FIX. NOW THERE COULD BE A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM ON THE HIGHWAY. PLEASE LOOK INTO THESE ISSUES. I FEEL LIKE GM IS TRYING TO HIDE A BIG PROBLEM.
FOR NHTSA RECALL 19V645, WHY DID NHTSA ACCEPT A 'REPROGRAMMING' OF THE FUNCTIONALITY TO 'BAND AID' THE ISSUE RATHER THAN REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE VACUUM PUMP, WHICH IS THE IDENTIFIED DEFECTIVE ITEM?
I HAS SOME ISSUES WITH MY BRAKES WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND KEPT ROLLING FORWARD AND ALMOST HIT THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. I THOUGHT IT COULD BE MY PADS WORN DOWN SO I DROVE CAUTIOUSLY FOR A FEW DAYS. I GOT A CALL A FEW DAYS LATER FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BROUGHT THE TRUCK FROM SAYING MY ON STAR NOTIFIED THEM OF A RECALL ON MY TRUCK PERTAINING TO THE BRAKES. I THOUGHT GOOD THIS COULD FIX THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT BY THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A SOFTWARE UPDATE, AND THEY DID THE UPDATE. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE BREAK PADS SO I COULD RULE IT OUT OR DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. THEY SAID I HAVE 60% OF MY BRAKE PADS STILL LEFT. THE NEXT DAY I WAS GOING TO WORK AND I GOT TO THE PARKING GARAGE WHERE I WORK AND NOTICED IT WAS DOING IT AGAIN. I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKES TO BACK UP AND I KEPT ROLLING FORWARD AND HAD TO PRESS DOWN HARD AND TO THE FLOOR SO I COULD STOP. SO FAR THERE WAS NOT A CRASH BUT I FEEL ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE FOR ME AND MY FAMILY AND FEEL THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF RECALL TO FIX THIS.
A FEW TIMES MY BRAKES WHILE GOING SLOW WOULD GET VERY TIGHT AND NOT WORK. WELL TODAY AFTER CHURCH I WAS LEAVING THE PARKING LOT. AS THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME MOVED FORWARD, SO DID I. WHEN I TRIED TO STOP I COULDNT. MY BRAKES GOT HARD AND WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I RAN RIGHT INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME
AS I WAS BACKING UP I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND FOR SOME REASON NOTHING HAPPENED WHICH RESULTED IN MY HITTING MY WIFE'S CAR AND DAMAGING HER DRIVERS SIDE QUARTER PANEL. WHEN I ASKED GMC ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY SAID IT WAS JUST AN ERROR ON MY PART. NOW I FIND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE BRAKING SYSTEM THAT THE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES MAY BE AFFECTED. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE TO HER CAR?
ANTI-COLLISION SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED, I APPLY BREAKS, BREAK PEDDLE IS SOFT AND GOES TO THE FLOOR, I SWERVE TO AVOID COLLISION AND QUICKLY PUMP THE BREAKS TO REGAIN PEDDLE AND APPLY BREAKS AGAIN (THIS TIME BRAKES ENGAGE). 6 DIFFERENT TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED. 4 TIMES ON THE INTERSTATE DURING RUSH HOUR AND TWICE ON A HIGHWAY. CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLAMMED ON THE BREAKS CAUSE THE SYSTEM TO ACTIVATE AND ME TO REACT. IT APPEARS THE SYSTEM OVERRIDES THE BRAKES TAKING CONTROL AWAY FROM ME. HOWEVER, THE SYSTEM DOES NOT BRAKE THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER OCCUR WAS WHEN I WAS LAUNCHING MY BOAT INTO THE LAKE. I WAS BACKING UP AND LOST BRAKE PRESSURE AND HAD TO APPLY MY EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE TO STOP MY TRUCK FROM GOING INTO THE WATER. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN CHECKED BY 2 DIFFERENT DEALERS, 4 DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. THE DATE LISTED BELOW WAS THE LAST OCCURRENCE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. (NOT THE PRIOR 5 OCCURRENCES)
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE PEDAL BECAME HARD AS A ROCK WITH NO ADVANCE WARNING. I RECEIVED A NOTICE (N182202780) FROM GM STATING THAT I MIGHT EXPERIENCE INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT. IT WENT ON TO SAY HOW THIS NOTICE "IS NOT A REACALL" AND THAT BRAKES STILL MEETS "ALL FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS FOR BRAKE PERFORMANCE" I'M WRITING TO BRING ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT MY TRUCK EXPERIENCED NO SYMPTOMS OF A PROBLEM UNTIL THE PEDAL HAD MAYBE 10% ASSIST. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR NOTICE FROM THE DRIVERS INFO CENTER. I APPLIED THE BRAKE, SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, ACCELERATED THEN APPLIED THE BRAKE TO STOP AND MAYBE HAD 10% BRAKING ABILITY. THE NOTICE ALSO WENT ON TO SAY THAT "FAILURE TO FOLLOW RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE INTERVALS COULD CONTRIBUTE TO THIS CONDITION". THE TRUCK HAS 32000 MILES ON IT, I'VE OWNED IT SINCE NEW, I HAVE ALWAYS CHANGES OIL WITH 20% LIFE LEFT IN IT. THIS IS ABOUT 2000 MILE SOONER THAN THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION THAT GM HAS RECOGNIZED IN THERE LETTER, BUT IN MY OPINION, ARE NOT TAKING IT SERIOUS ENOUGH. UNLESS I'M A "ONE OFF" CASE, THIS WILL VERY LIKELY GET PEOPLE HURT AND PROPERTY DAMAGE IF NOT ADDRESSED VERY SOON. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS, THANK YOU
STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT, NO PROBLEM. AFTER A FEW SECONDS TRUCK STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD. HAD TO APPLY TREMENDOUS PRESSURE ON BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE. PROBLEM CONTINUED UNTIL I WAS ARRIVED AT DESTINATION A QUARTER MILE AWAY. OCCURRED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. CUT VEHICLE OFF AND WHEN RESTARTED IT OCCURRED ONCE AND THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND VERY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ABS IN THE BRAKES WAS VIBRATING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.
VACUUM PUMP, BRAKE PEDAL STIFF WHEN REVERSING, HARD TO STOP.
THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES EXTREMELY STIFF WHEN TRYING TO STOP AT SLOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY IN PARKING LOTS. THE VEHICLE BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP ALMOST CAUSING CRASHES. GM DEALERSHIP REPEATEDLY TESTS VEHICLE AND TRIES TO CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND I'M MAKING A MISTAKE. HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE IN SEVERAL TIMES AND EVENTUALLY THEY FOUND A FAILED VACUUM PUMP. THEY TRIED TO MAKE ME PAY $700+ FOR THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH ITS A KNOWN ISSUE. THEY ARE TRYING TO AVOID DOING A RECALL AND PUTTING THEIR BOTTOM LINE AHEAD OF SAFETY. THESE TRUCKS ARE DANGEROUS.
THE BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING AT SLOW SPEEDS. I WAS PARKING IN A PARKING GARAGE WHILE PULLING UP TO THE CONCRETE WALL AND PUSHING ON THE BRAKE THE TRUCK ALMOST DIDN'T STOP AND THE PEDAL GOT VERY STIFF. WHILE DRIVING HOME IN TRAFFIC THE TRUCK DID THE SAME THING AND I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. IT SEEMS TO BE AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND THE BRAKES ARE LOSING ALL POWER. THE TRUCK IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND NORMALLY STOPS ON A DIME. TOOK TO THE DEALER TODAY, AND THEY SAID THE VACUUM PUMP IS BAD AT ONLY 39,000 MILES.
FAULTY BRAKE VACUUM PUMP LEADING TO REDUCED BRAKING FORCE UNDER REPEATED USE OR IN A PANNIC SITUATION LEADING TO A COLLISION. I HIT A DEER BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE STOP OR SUFFICIENTLY SLOW DOWN TO AVOID HITTING IT. I NOTICED REDUCED BRAKING FORCE AND A HARD BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL REPORTS ON THE INTERNET INVOLVING THIS ISSUE
WAS DRIVING MY 2017 GMC SIERRA WITH MY WIFE AND YOUNG SON. I WENT TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND HAD NO BRAKES. THE BRAKE WAS VERY HARD TO PUSH AND MADE A FUNNY CLICKING NOISE WHEN I SHOVED IT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION AND PULL INTO A PARKING LOT. I NOTICED THEN, THAT THE SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST LIGHT WAS ON. THE TRUCK GAVE NO PRIOR WARNING THAT ANYTHING WAS WRONG. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT.
BREAKS HAVE OUT AT 36.5K MILES. VACUUM TO BREAK LINE MESSED UP. WAS IN BUSY TRAFFIC GOING 50-60MPH. TRAFFIC SLOWED DOWN BUT TRUCK WOULD NOT BREAK. VERY VERY SCARY SITUATION. GMC DEALERSHIP KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUE WAS OVER THE PHONE. TOOK IT TO THEM AND CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 500 MILES. 800$ OUT OF POCKET AND TOOK THEM 10 SECONDS TO IDENTIFY ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP. SEEMS LIKE THEY KNOW THE ISSUE VERY WELL
'TAKATA RECALL' DRIVING THE TRUCK TO THE STORE, WHEN I WAS PARKING THE BRAKE PEDAL GOT EXTREMELY HARD, LOST ALL BRAKE FUNCTIONS. IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE TRUCK (2017 GMC SIERRA 1500) TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE VACUUM PUMP AND BELT. HAD IT REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY ON NO ADDITIONAL COST.
AFTER EXITING I285 NORTH OF ATLANTA ONTO THE ASHFORD DUNWOODY EXIT, MY BREAKS STOPPED WORKING AND THE PEDAL WOULD NOT PRESS DOWN. I WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME AND HAPPENED TO BE MOVING UP AN INCLINE. I HAD TO DOWN SHIFT FROM DRIVE INTO A LOWER GEAR AND USE THE EMERGENCY BREAK TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH, A SERVICE BRAKE ASSISTANT WARNING CAME ON. THE BRAKES AT THAT POINT WERE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO USE AND THERE WAS NO WAY FOR A QUICK STOP. WAS ABLE TO GET TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER, THE BOOSTER PUMP, VACUUM PUMP AND TUBING. COST FOR THE REPAIR WAS OVER $1,200.
VACUUM PUMP ISSUE WITH GMC SIERRA - I NOTICED A PROBLEM BRAKING MY PICKUP, SPONGY BRAKES, HARD STOPPING. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALER (PORTSMOUTH CHEVROLET, PORTSMOUTH, NH). THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A PROBLEM WITH THE VACUUM PUMP AND REPLACED THE PUMP UNDER WARRANTY. I WANTED TO ALERT YOU BECAUSE I SAW A NOTICE ON FOX NEWS THIS EVENING ABOUT YOUR INVESTIGATION OF THE PROBLEM WITH EARLIER MODELS AND WANTED TO ALERT YOU THAT MINE IS A 2017. YOU MAY WANT TO EXPAND THE INVESTIGATION TO INCLUDE LATER MODEL TRUCKS AND SUVS. LUCKILY I CAUGHT IT IN TIME, NO ACCIDENTS, NO INJURIES.
I ALMOST KILLED A KID TODAY PARKING FOR A BASEBALL GAME. I WAS TRAVELING SLOWLY AND PARKING WHEN MY BRAKES BECAME HARD TO PUSH AND FAILED. TRUCK WENT OVER CURB AND TOWARD KID PUTTING ON HIS CLEATS AND NOT FACING ME. I WAS ABLE TO PUSH AS HARD AS I COULD AND IT STOPPED. I BACKED UP AND BRAKES WORKED AGAIN. I HAVE 46,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE IT, BUT IT SEEMS THEY ARE WORKING AGAIN. IF THIS IS COMMON, GMC NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THIS. SOMEONE WILL SOON BE HURT SERIOUSLY!
WAS STOPPED AT STOP LIGHT,WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE. STARTED ROLLING FORWARD AND HAD TO PRESS HARDER ON THE BRAKE. WHEN HOLDING FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL AND IN GEAR PEDAL SLOWLY MOVES DOWN TO THE FLOOR. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO WAS LUCKILY CLOSE BY. THEY TESTED TRUCK BRAKE'S AND FOUND THE SAME THING. THEY KEPT TRUCK, AND REPAIRED THE NEXT DAY. MASTER CYLINDER WAS BAD. THEY BELIEVE THAT A SEAL MAY HAVE A CRACK,OR A NICK IN IT, ALLOWING PRESSURE TO RELEASE. THE DEALER SAID MORE THAN LIKELY GM WILL ASK FOR PART TO EXAMINE IT, SO THEY CAN'T TAKE IT APART. TRUCK HAD 3173 MILE'S ON IT.
