AT HIGHWAY SPEED OR ANY SPEED THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH AND THEN THE GAS PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT. YOU HAVE TO COAST TO A STOP ALONG THE ROAD, TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT. THEN ITS FINE. IF YOU DON'T TURN IT OFF AND RESTART IT WILL STAY IN LIMP MODE DRIVING MAXIMUM 5 MPH. THIS CAR HAS 92K MILES. WRENCH LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON. TD

WE OWN A 2010 FORD FOCUS. WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM HER COLLEGE TOWN AT 75MPH, THE CARE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. LUCKILY THEY WERE ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT MULTIPLE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON. THEY STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND IT IMMEDIATLY DIED. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. BY THE TIME THE REPAIR SHOP HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THE CAR, IT STARTED UP WITHOUT INCIDENT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER INCONCLUSIVE DIAGNOSTICS BY THE REPAIR SHOP AND MY RESEARCH ON THIS WEBSITE, WE HAD TO ASSUME IT WAS SIMILAR TO TOO MANY OTHER IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS. MY DAUGHTER DRIVES THIS CAR TO AND FROM COLLEGE, EACH ONE WAY TRIP BEING ABOUT 180 MILES. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE COULD "HOPE" WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. IT SOUNDED LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS TO NOT HAVE IT REPAIRED. WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE THROTTLE BODY AT OUR OWN EXPENSE TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $800. WE WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME ON A FORD PRODUCT. WE BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW SO OUR DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE A SAFE CAR. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND HOW A PROBLEM LIKE THIS, WHICH SOUNDS MUCH TO COMMON, CAN BE IGNORED. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL, AS WELL AS REIMBURSE ALL THE CAR OWNERS THAT HAVE PAID OUT OF THEIR OWN POCKETS TO HAVE THIS FIXED. WE ARE GRATEFUL THAT OUR DAUGHTER WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THIS FACTORY DEFECT CAUSES A ONE OR MORE FATALITIES. WE HAVE LOST ALL CONFIDENCE IN THE FORD MOTO COMPANY FOR NOT STEPPING UP MUCH, MUCH EARLIER TO CORRECT THIS.

CAR STALLS RPMS WON'T GO BEYOND 2. CAR SPUTTERS & WILL NOT GO FORWARD. PULLED OVER IN A SAFE PLACE BY EXIT RAMP. TURNED OFF CAR & RESTARTED CAR IS FINE. LOOKED UP ON-LINE AND SAW SIMILAR COMPLAINTS INVOLVING THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS COMPLIANT. THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM FOR $837.19. ON 03/24/15. I BELIEVE FORD MOTOR COMPANY OWES US A RECALL. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. THE INCIDENT COULD A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. I HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. SIMILAR TO MAN OF THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS VEHICLE; IT ENDED UP BEING THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. MY MOTHER-IN-LAW WAS DRIVING AND IT SUDDENLY WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. A CAR ALMOST REAR-ENDED HER. SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE NOTICED THAT THE "WRENCH" LIGHT WAS ON. SHE STARTED IT UP AND "LIMPED" TO THE FORD DEALER. ABOUT $700 LATER, THE THROTTLE BODY WAS CHANGED. THERE IS ONLY 30,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND SHE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. SHE IS QUITE UPSET ABOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, AND I DON'T BLAME HER. THIS SHOULD BE PART OF THE POWER TRAIN, OR UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE THAT WAS APPLIED TO SOME OF THE OTHER FORD AND MERCURY VEHICLES THAT HAD THE SAME THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. HOW MANY INCIDENTS OR COMPLAINTS DOES IT NEED TO TAKE TO HAVE FORD APPLY THE SAME COVERAGE TO THE FOCUS? DO THEY HAVE TO WAIT TILL PEOPLE GET BADLY HURT? THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I FIRST STARTED TO NOTICE A PROBLEM ABOUT 2 YEARS AFTER OWNING THIS CAR. BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. ONE DAY AFTER AN OIL CHANGE I WAS SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO SPUTTER AND DIE OUT. I REVVED THE ENGINE AND ONCE I STARTED TO MOVE IT DIDN'T SEEM TO BE AN ISSUE. I TOOK IT INTO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE A/C UNIT CIRCLING ON AND THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. I THOUGHT IT WAS WEIRD SINCE THIS WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED SINCE DAY ONE, BUT INSTEAD STARTED HAPPENING AFTER 2 YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. I WENT BACK AND FORTH WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE GUY THAT WAS WORKING ON MY CAR TOLD ME AT THAT POINT THAT HE THOUGHT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND AT THAT POINT IT WAS STILL COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY BUT THAT IF HE WERE TO REPLACE IT AND THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ONE THAT CAME OUT OF MY CAR, I WOULD BE CHARGED FOR IT. SO, BEING SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T HAVE AN EXTRA $700 LAYING AROUND, AND BELIEVING THE DEALERSHIP, I CHOSE TO GO ON DRIVING MY CAR AS IT WAS. TODAY WAS THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY, GOING CLOSE TO 60 WHEN MY CAR DECIDED TO TURN OFF TODAY. THIS HAS NOW HAPPENED 5, YES 5 TIMES. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS SLOWLY TURNING A CORNER AND MY CAR JUST DIED. COMPLETELY DIED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STARTED MY CAR AGAIN. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS NEED TO BE FILED BEFORE ACTION IS TAKEN????? THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM NOT ONLY WITH THE FOCUS MODELS BUT WITH ALL OF FORDS THROTTLE BODIES! IS THIS GOING TO BE ANOTHER CHRYSLER MONSTROSITY? *TR

I DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR EACH WAY TO WORK AND BACK. DURING THIS TRIP I AM SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON TWO LANE MAJOR ACCESS ROADWAYS WITH SPEEDS OF 55 MPH. DRIVING AT A STEADY 60 MPH THROUGHOUT MOST OF MY TRIP, I HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND THE ORANGE WRENCH THAT SIGNIFIES "LIMP HOME MODE" CAME ON. SINCE HALF OF MY TRIP IS ON ROADS THAT ARE RURAL IN AMENITIES, I WAS UNABLE TO LIMP TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP OR AUTO PARTS PLACE THE OFFER TESTING SERVICES. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD BE DONE UNDER A ROLL AS IT IS A 5SPD. THE CAR RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY AND RAN PERFECT THE REST OF THE WAY HOME (ABOUT 25 MILES). THIS VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR THREE MORE WEEKS AND THEN BEGAN DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. ONE OF THE THINGS I NOTICED THE MOST IS THAT IT DOES NOT SEEM TO DO THIS OVER 60 MPH AS ONE DAY A WEEK I AM TRAVELING AT MORE HIGHWAY SPEEDS (70 ISH) AND IT HAS NEVER DONE THIS UNDER THAT TYPE OF LOAD. THIS HAD BEEN AN OFF AND ON OCCURRENCE SINCE APRIL, YET HAS BECOME MORE COMMON. I BORROWED A SCAN TOOL FROM MY NEIGHBOR, DROVE THE CAR WITH IT PLUGGED IN, AND TODAY CAME UP WITH TWO CODES IN LESS THAN 11 MILES OF DRIVING. P2135 AND P2111 WHICH WHEN I CONTACTED MY FORD SERVICE TECHNICIAN CAME OUT TO BE THROTTLE BODY CODES. TO DATE IT HAS HAPPENED 27 TIMES WHILE DRIVING, HAS NOT LEFT ME STRANDED, YET, BUT HAS CAUSED RAPID DECELERATION IN SOME HEAVY TRAFFIC. CAR DOES RESET ITSELF AND RUNS FINE FOR A WHILE RIGHT AFTER, HOWEVER I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD BECOME MUCH MORE OF A HAZARD AS TIME GOES ON. CURRENTLY HAS 74,500 MILES ON CAR. *TR

AS WE WERE APPROACHING THE STADIUM GOING 35-40 MPH, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND A WRENCH LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WE PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND WERE ABLE TO GO ABOUT A HALF MILE BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHERE THEY FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY HAD FAILED. I WAS VERY GRATEFUL THIS HAPPENED ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND NOT ON THE VERY BUSY HIGHWAY I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON FOR THE LAST HOUR! FROM LOOKING ONLINE, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH LATE MODEL FORDS AND THAT AN INVESTIGATION HAD BEEN OPENED BY THE NHTSA AT LEAST FOR FORD ESCAPE AND FUSIONS. *TR

IT'S NOT JUST THE MERCURY MILAN AND FORD ESCAPE HAVING THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR/ASSEMBLY ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE 694 INTERSTATE IN MINNESOTA WHEN MY CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON MY DASH. I WAS ABLE TO FIND SOME SHOULDER AND PULL OVER, TURN MY CAR OFF AND RESTART IT AND MAKE IT HOME. I BROUGHT IT TO AUTOMATION IN WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN. THE FOLLOWING DAY AND SPENT $800 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE THROTTLE BODY IN MY FORD FOCUS SES. HAD IT GONE OUT 8500 MILES SOONER, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THREE DAYS LATER, THE SAME PART ON MY WIFE'S 2010 MERCURY MILAN PREMIER WENT OUT AND IS BEING REPLACED TODAY. LUCKILY SHE PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO ALL WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THAT ONE IS $100, BUT WHAT A COINCIDENCE, EH? I THINK NOT! I KNOW YOU ARE INVESTIGATING SOME FORD AUTOS FROM 2010 FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT I THINK YOU BETTER OPEN IT UP TO ALL FORD PRODUCTS FROM 2010. THANK YOU! *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE DOOR LATCH BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED THE BUTTON WOULD IMMEDIATELY RELEASE, CAUSING THE DOORS TO REMAIN UNLOCKED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,670 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,889. UPDATED 09/05/12*LJ THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE RPM FLUCTUATED AT IDLE. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF GAS. WAS DRIVING IN TOWN AND MY INFORMATION DISPLAY NOTIFIED ME THAT THE CAR HAD 50 MILES LEFT TO EMPTY. SUDDENLY INFO DISPLAY STARTED DROPPING 1 OR 2 MILES EVERY 10-30 SECONDS AND WENT FROM 50 MILES TO 8 MILES TO E IN LESS THAN 10 MILES. I WAS LUCKY TO BE DRIVING IN TOWN. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE I COULD HAVE RUN OUT OF GAS WITHOUT ENOUGH WARNING AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. NOT SURE IF THE DISPLAY WAS INACCURATE AND I HAD MORE GAS? FOR PERSPECTIVE: IF INFO DISPLAY SHOWS THAT CAR IS GETTING AN AVERAGE 35.4 MPG AND HOLDS 13.5 GALLONS, SHOULD GET 477 MILES PER TANK. I ADDED 11.4 GALLONS, AND INFO SHOWED 441 MILES TO EMPTY. 441/ 35.4MPG = 12.45 GALLONS SHOULD BE IN TANK. 12.45 GALLONS - 11.4 ADDED = 1.05 GALLONS LEFT IN TANK AT FILL UP, WHICH SHOULD HAVE SHOWN = 37.17 MILES TO EMPTY, NOT 8. I WILL KEEP AND EYE ON THIS AND SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I WILL ALSO KEEP TRACK OF MILEAGE AND CALCULATE MY MPG. *TR
