DASH LIGHTS GO OUT AT A FILL TANK OF GAS AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS WARMED UP AND SOME TIMES. STAY OFF FOR A LONG TIME VEHICLE STAY RUNNING AND GOES DOWN THE ROAD .
MY 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID IS STALLING ON THE HIGHWAY CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THIS SEEMS TO BE DUE TO A FAULT IN THE EXTERNAL HYBRID INVERTER COOLING PUMP. THIS HAS OCCURRED 5+ TIMES,USUALLY DURING 70 DEGREE (F) + TEMPS. I'VE CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP & FORD MOTOR CORP RAN THE VIN,WITH NO RECALL. PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, AN UNKNOWN WARNING ICON DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. WHEN THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE WARNING INDICATOR NO LONGER APPEARED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO WILSON FORD LINCOLN (328 MAIN ST, LOGAN, UT 84321, (435) 752-7355) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT A FAILURE CODE COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYBRID BATTERY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,533.
THE VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER COMING FROM A STOP, IT IS NOT TRANSMISSION, IT IS LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING FUEL. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING OR REASON SHUTS OFF ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE RED TRIANGLE WITH EXCLAMATION LIGHT COMES ON WITH A WARNING TO STOP SAFELY NOW ON THE DASHBOARD AND YOU ARE STRANDED. THIS HAS HAPPENED BOTH WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND WHILE DRIVING BOTH FREEWAY AND SURFACE STREET SPEEDS, SUDDENLY. I AM AFRAID NOT ONLY TO NOT ONLY DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT HAVING ANYONE IN THE CAR WITH ME, ESPECIALLY MAKING A LEFT TURN. IT IS NOT A SAFE VEHICLE. IT HAS LEFT ME STRANDED ON A DARK STREET AROUND 9PM, CUTTING OFF ON THE FREEWAY LEAVING ME NO CHOICE BUT TO COAST OFF THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. AGAIN IT JUST SHUT DOWN AGAIN WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT @ 40 MPH, WHILE DRIVING ON THE SURFACE STREETS, THIS TIME IT WAS EARLY EVENING BUT ONCE AGAIN LEFT ALONE STRANDED UNTIL THE TOW TRUCK COMES. THE DEALER CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND INDICATED THERE ARE NO RECALLS THAT WOULD ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. BUT I CAN SEE THROUGH THE COMPLAINTS THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, WHICH IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED.
THE PROBLEM THAT WE ARE HAVING HAS TO DO WITH THE CAR JUST SHUTTING OFF AND LOSING POWER, MAINLY ON THE INTERSTATE. WE STARTED HAVING THE PROBLEM BACK IN JUNE OF 17 WHEN MY WIFE BROKE DOWN IN FAYETTEVILLE NC ON HER WAY TO SOUTH CAROLINA AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST AAA SERVICE CENTER. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG BUT SAID SHE NEED A NEW BATTERY. FAST FORWARD TO MAY 6 2018, NOT QUITE 11 MONTHS SINCE THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. SAME THING, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, DASH CLUSTER SHUTS DOWN, NO RADIO OR A/C, THEN THE VEHICLE STARTS LOSING POWER AND SLOWING DOWN UNTIL THERE IS NO POWER AT ALL. EVERYTHING WE HAVE READ POINTS TO A PROBLEM THE ALTERNATOR. EVERY POST WE HAVE READ, AROUND 40, SAYS THE SAME THING. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL ALL FORD ESCAPES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED BECAUSE OF THEIR VEHICLES LOSING POWER AND GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND MY A TRACTOR TRAILER. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPENS. OR FORD CAN REPLACE THE VEHICLE WITH A NEW ONE. SOME POSTS DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT WARNING LIKE WE DID, THEY SAID IT JUST SHUT DOWN FOR NO REASON. I BELIEVE FORD KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH MIST OF NO ALL FORD ESCAPES WITH THIS ISSUE, BUT BELIEVE THEY ARE COVERING UP THE PROBLEM. AGAIN, PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND ASK THE PUBLIC WHO OWN ESCAPES FOR ANY ISSUES LIKE WE HAVE HAD AND FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE POSTED THE SAME ISSUES. THANK YOU YOUR HELP WITH THIS ISSUE. NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO DIE OR BE INJURED FROM A PROBLEM THAT FORD CAN FIX. THEY NEED TO ISSUE A MAJOR RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WITH YOUR HELP WE CAN GET THIS FIXED. WE HAVE A 2006 FORD ESCAPE XLT WHICH HAS BEEN A GREAT VEHICLE FOR THE PAST 11 YEARS. IT'S ONLY BEEN THIS PAST 11 MONTHS THAT THESE PROBLEMS HAVE ARISEN. ANY THANKS FOR ANY INPUT TO GET FORD TO RIGHT THIS WRONG.
THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON, AND AFTER DRIVING IT FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE BRAKES COMPLETELY DO NOT WORK. AFTER BRINGING IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP, THE PART ITSELF IS ABOUT $5,000 NOT INCLUDING LABOR. (HYDROCOLIC CONTROL UNIT). THEY DIDNT RECOMMEND FIXING IT BECAUSE OF HOW EXPENSIVE IT IS. I STILL OWE $5,000 SO IM STUCK PAYING FOR A PART THAT IS WORTH MORE THEN THE CAR ITSELF.
1) ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS IN AN UPWARD POSITION CANNOT PUSH DOWN TO ACCELERATE AS IF IT IS FROZEN. AFTER ABOUT A HALF HOUR PUSHING WITH MY FOOT IT WILL RELEASES. WHEN STOPPED THE PEDAL STICK AGAIN BUT WILL RELEASE BUT VEHICLE GOES IN A JERKING MOTION BECAUSE IT IS TRYING TO STICK AGAIN THIS HAPPENS UPON BEING PARKED OR DRIVING IN THE CITY OR COUNTRY IT HAPPENS WHENEVER I NEED TO ACCELERATE. IT HAS STARTED DOING THIS WITHIN THE PAST MONTH BUT AS OF 11/10/17 IT WAS COMPLETELY STUCK IN THE UP POSITION AND NOT BUDGING 2) ELECTRICAL ISSUES- WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON OR ANYTHING INSIDE THE VEHICLE LIGHTSABER ARE FLICKERING AND BECOME SLIGHTLY DIM
VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN AND WITHOUT WARNING WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE ABS LIGHT THEN CAME ON. MY CHILD WAS BEING TRANSPORTED IN THE CAR AND AN ACCIDENT ALMOST OCCURRED. TOWED CAR TO MECHANIC AND DISCOVERED THIS HAS HAPPENED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE, YET WHEN I CHECKED THERE WAS NO ACTIVE RECALL ON THIS ITEM. SHOP SAYS IT NEEDS A NEW FORD OEM ABS MODULE ASSEMBLY 3F2Z2C219AB. *TT UPDATED 7/24/18*JB
I WAS DRIVING IN THE FAST LANE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WHEN MY CAR BASICALLY SHUT DOWN AND TOLD ME TO "PULL OVER SAFELY". A RED TRIANGLE (WITH THE EXCLAMATION POINT IN THE CENTER) APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE BOARD ALONG WITH THE "PULL OVER SAFELY" MESSAGE AND A CHIMING/ALERT SOUND. THIS WAS ON LABOR DAY, SO THE HIGHWAY WAS INCREDIBLY BUSY AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO CROSS OVER LANES AND "PULL OVER SAFELY". ADDITIONALLY, WHEN THIS MESSAGE APPEARS, IT PRETTY MUCH SHUTS DOWN YOUR CAR, NOT ALLOWING YOU TO ACCELERATE AT ALL WHICH ALSO MADE IT MORE DIFFICULT TO GET OVER. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER, TURNED OFF MY CAR AND THEN RESTARTED IT. THAT WAS ALL IT TOOK. NO ADDITIONAL MESSAGES OR PROBLEMS...YET. I PROBABLY HAD TO DRIVE AN ADDITIONAL 30 MILES OR SO HOME WITHOUT ANY ADDITIONAL MESSAGES SHOWING UP. THIS SERIOUSLY FRUSTRATED ME AS I HAVE YET TO BE ABLE TO FIND MUCH MORE INFORMATION ON THE ISSUE. IT SEEMS TO BE CAUSED FOR A DIFFERENT REASON FOR EACH PERSON. I HONESTLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT GENIUS AT FORD THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO INCORPORATE THAT FEATURE INTO THE VEHICLE. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY SCARY SITUATION AND PUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, THOSE IN MY CAR, AND THE CARS AROUND ME AT A SERIOUS RISK FOR OUR SAFETY. IN ADDITION, IT IS VERY HARD TO FEEL SAFE DRIVING IN MY CAR NOW, AS I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN OR WHAT WILL PROMPT IT.
DRIVING DOWN A STREET IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. IN PREVIOUS OCCURRENCES I WAS TOLD THAT THE CALIPERS FROZE UP AND THAT THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE A GRINDING NOISE. ALSO THE COMPUTER SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE WOULD NEVER RECORD THE PROPER AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK OR AT TIMES ENGAGE THE BRAKES. I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL BUT I KNOW THIS VEHICLE DID HAVE ISSUES. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED. UPON IMPACT IT APPEARED I HIT THE STEERING WHEEL BEFORE THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. I HAD MY SEAT BELT ON. I HAVE DRIVEN DOWN THAT CITY ROAD THOUSANDS OF TIMES BUT IT APPEARED THIS TIME THERE WAS A ISSUE WITH HE VEHICLE THAT CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT. INJURIES WERE AIRBAG RELATED. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
OUR VEHICLE SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE AND THE ELECTRIC MOTOR. THIS CAN HAPPEN WHILE WE ARE MOVING OR STOPPED IN AN INTERSECTION. WE GET A MESSAGE OF STOP SAFELY NOW ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WAITING TO TURN LEFT IN SIX LANES OF TRAFFIC AND YOUR CAR STOPS FOR NO APPARENT REASON THIS ISN'T VERY SAFE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 30 TIMES. SOMETIMES IT GOES A YEAR WITHOUT A MISHAP OR THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AFTER GETTING OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO AN EXIT RAMP MY VEHICLE HAS DIED WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS, IT ALSO SHUTS DOWN WHEN MAKING A HARD TURN AT SLOWER SPEEDS. I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE ACCELERATOR STICKING WHEN IT IS COLD OUTSIDE (SEVERAL TIMES HAVING TO MANUALLY SHUT OFF ENGINE AND COAST TO A STOP IN SNOW). I HAVE CURRENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING A #3 MISFIRE AND AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR PARTS TO COME. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS AND NUMBER 3 IGNITION COIL. I AM WAITING FOR OTHER 3 COILS TO COME IN. IF STILL SHOOTING WILL TRY REPLACING SEALS. IT ALSO WAS "BURNING" OIL THEN STARTED TO HAVE AN ACTUAL OIL LEAK FROM MAIN SEAL. I DO THE REPAIRS MYSELF AND APPARENTLY THESE ARE KNOWN ISSUES. I COMPLAINED TO FORD ABOUT THE STICKY ACCELERATOR AND GOT NO REPLY. IT ALSO MAKES A TAPPING SOUND FROM THE CAM SHAFT WHICH I FOUND OUT IS TYPICAL OF FORD ESCAPES.
I HAD GONE VA BEACH TO WASHINGTON D.C. AND WAS ON THE WAY BACK WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN JUST BEFORE THE HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE TUNNEL IN NEWPORT NEWS. WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE DURING THE ENTIRE TRIP AND WAS LUCKY TO BE IN THE RIGHT LANE. A AAA BE TOW TRUCK PULLED US OFF TO THE SIDE. WE TRIED TO RESTART IT BUT IT SHUT OFF. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS WORKING FINE. I WENT BACK THE NEXT DAY AND THE VEHICLE WORKED FINE. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I JUST HAD THE COOLING PUMP REPLACED BECAUSE OF THE RECALL. I LOOKED AT THE MANUAL AND IT STATED THAT WHEN THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY GETS TOO HOT THAT IT WILL SHUT OFF. THIS COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD FIND A WAY TO ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO STILL OPERATE ON GAS POWER WHEN HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY NEEDS TO COOL DOWN AND TO FIND A WAY TO ALLOW BETTER VENTILATION SO THE BATTERY DOES NOT GET SO HOT SINCE IT IS LOCATED IN THE TRUNK WHERE PEOPLE PUT THEIR BELONGINGS.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V526000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM), BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 134,000.

THE SUSPECT PART HAS A TEMPERATURE COEFFICIENT. THAT IS TO SAY WHEN YOU PARK YOUR CAR, AND GO INSIDE YOUR HOUSE, THE CAR ALARM WILL START GOING OFF IN NEIGHBORHOOD WAKING UP NEIGHBORS AND IS A HUGE ANNOYANCE TO QUIET NEIGHBORHOODS BECAUSE ALARM WILL FALSELY ACTIVATE WHEN THE TEMPERATURE VARIES. SOMETIMES WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES WARMS UP TO ABOUT 75-80 DEGREES OUTSIDE THE CAR ALARM SOUNDS TO INDICATE A FALSELY TRIPPED ALARM. IT SOMETIMES WILL OCCUR IN WINTER WEATHER CLIMATES ALSO. TEMPERATURE CHANGES PROVOKE THE FAULTY SYMPTOMS. FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE FORD ESCAPE AND MANY OF THEIR MODEL VEHICLES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE CHEAP FLIMSY METAL ELECTRICAL CONTACTS WITHIN THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM THAT OXIDIZE AND LOSE SPRING TENSION OVER TIME CAUSING THESE FALSE ALARMS. WITH EACH FALSE ACTIVATION, CAR ALARM WILL SOUND, DOOR AJAR LIGHT ACTIVATES (CAN'T TELL WHICH DOOR IS FAULTY) DOME LIGHT TURNS ON AND WILL STAY ON UNTIL IT RUNS DOWN YOUR BATTERY IN YOUR CAR AND THEN YOUR STRANDED BECAUSE YOUR CAR WON'T START BECAUSE FAULTY DOOR ELECTRICAL SWITCH BUILT INTO DOOR LATCH MECHANISM ACTIVATED YOUR DOME LIGHT WHICH DISCHARGES YOUR BATTERY CHARGE. WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN THE MORNING. HAD BEEN IN THE CAR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES WHEN THE ABS, BRAKE, AND SERVICE BRAKES, INDICATORS CAME ON ALL AT ONCE. DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT I DID IN FACT NOT HAVE ANY BRAKES. TURNED ON EMERGENCY FLASHERS AND BEGAN TO MERGE OVER INTO RIGHT HAND SHOULDER, REPEATEDLY STOMPING ON BRAKE PEDAL. WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS APPROACHING A VERY BUSY 3-WAY INTERSECTION, OFF OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON TO SEE IF THIS WAS A MALFUNCTION, BUT ALL THREE INDICATORS CAME ON AGAIN. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP. PAID $5280.03 IN PARTS AND LABOR TO HAVE FAULTY HYDRAULIC UNIT REPAIRED, AND HCU AND HYBRID SYSTEM BLEED. HAD NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE IN THE PAST. THE DEALER DID NOT PROVIDE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE TO SCHEDULE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY SLOW TO PICK UP SPEED UPON PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PEDAL. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE 495 BELTWAY (APPROX 55MPH) IN THE RIGHT LANE WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR LOST POWER AND THE FAIL SAFE MESSAGE APPEARED SAYING STOP THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A NEARBY EXIT OFF THE BELTWAY WITHOUT INJURING MYSELF OR SOMEONE BEHIND ME AND CAUSING A MULTIPLE CAR COLLISION. A RED TRIANGLE ICON APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INCLUDING OTHER LIGHTS AND MESSAGES SINCE THE CAR HAD NO POWER. I DID HAVE THE CAR HEATER ON DUE TO WINTER TEMPERATURES. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTED IT AND DID NOT PUT MY HEAT BACK ON SUSPECTING THE ELECTRONIC MOTOR COOLANT PUMP AS THE PROBLEM AFTER RECENTLY READING A NYT ARTICLE. THE CAR STARTED ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER. I MADE AN APPT W MY FORD DEALER TO INSPECT THE CAR FOR THIS PROBLEM.I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM LAST SUMMER AND WAS TOLD BY FORD THAT MY VIN DIDN'T HAVE ANY RECALLS. I HAD THE A/C ON THAT DAY. UNFORTUNATELY, THE RECALL FOR THROTTLES ONLY APPLIES TO FORD NON-HYBRID CARS. THERE HAS ONLY BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN TO FORD MECHANICS AND NO RECALL FOR THE ELECTRONICS MOTOR COOLANT PUMP. THIS INCIDENT SCARED ME AND I FEEL MY CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ESP ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. *TR
OUR FORD ESCAPE ENGINE STOPPED SUDDENLY ON THE HIGHWAY. WE BROUGHT IT TO CYPRESS COAST FORD LINCOLN IN SEASIDE CALIFORNIA. I HAD NOT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD ABOUT THE RECALL, BUT UPON RESEARCHING THE SYMPTOMS ONLINE, I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL AND INFORMED THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT CYPRESS FORD. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT RELEVANT AND THAT THE CAR NEEDED $1700 IN VERY SIMILAR REPAIRS. I PAID WITH A CREDIT CARD AND THE WORK WAS COMPLETED. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND TRIED TO DRIVE IT HOME; THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN, LATE AT NIGHT, ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED (AT MY EXPENSE) TO MY HOME AND THEN WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER. THEY RAN THE VIN AND SAID THE RECALL WAS PRESENT AND SHOULD BE FIXED. WHAT RECOURSE DO I HAVE TO GET A FULL REFUND AND PAYMENT FOR NEGLIGENCE FROM THE FORD AUTHORIZED DEALER/SERVICE CENTER THAT 1) DID NOT PROPERLY REPAIR MY CAR 2) IGNORED THE RECALL ON THE SPECIFIC PART OF THE CAR THAT I WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT AND THE RECALL I ALERTED THEM TO 3) PLACED ME IN DANGER THROUGH THEIR NEGLIGENCE BY SEND ME BACK TO THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM PLEASE ADVISE. *TR

WE WERE DRIVING EAST ON I-26 IN SOUTH CAROLINA AT 65 MPH IN 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC WHEN THE TRIANGLE HAZARD WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH SOUNDED AND LIT UP SAYING "PULL OVER SAFELY NOW". AT THE SAME TIME , WITH THE GAS PEDDLE FLOORED, THE SPEED OF THE CAR WAS SLOWING BY THE SECOND! THE GAS PEDDLE DID NOT WORK. DUE TO THE HIGH COST QUOTE AND KNOWING THAT IT ONLY TAKES 45 MINUTES OR LESS TO CHANGE THIS PUMP, WE TOOK IT ELSEWHERE. THE PART IS $277. OUR CONCERN IS THAT HOW COULD FORD DEALERS NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT, WHEN IN 3 SECONDS YOU CAN PULL UP HUNDREDS OF WEBSITES COVERING THIS FAILURE, AND THE DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY FATAL ACCIDENT IT COULD CAUSE. WHILE ON THE PHONE WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY FOR A TOW TRUCK, I TRIED AGAIN, AND THE ENGINE RESTARTED. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING HOME FOR ABOUT 25 MINUTES, APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES. WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE APPEARED AND THIS TIME THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THIS TIME, IT DIED WITHIN 3 SECONDS AFTER THE MESSAGE APPEARED. IT WAS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD WHEN OTHER CARS WERE APPROACHING AND WITH VERY LITTLE ROOM TO STOP AND REACT. THIS WAS IN A 35 MPH RESIDENTIAL ZONE. I HAD TO CALL A LOCAL POLICE DEPARTMENT TO ASSIST MANAGING THE TRAFFIC. AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES, I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND CONTINUED THE LAST 2 BLOCKS TO MY RESIDENT. AGAIN, HAVING IT TOWED TO MY CAR REPAIR AGAIN, IT TURNS OUT THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM NEEDED REPLACING. I ONLY HAVE 67K ON MY CAR AND AFTER SPENDING ANOTHER $600 TO FIX, I AM NOT A HAPPY CONSUMER! WIFE WAS DRIVING HER 2003 FORD ESCAPE 2.3L XLS (FWD, 5-SPD MANUAL) AT 65MPH, PRACTICALLY COASTING DOWN A HILL. 26 MINUTES AFTER ENGINE START SHE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND SUBSEQUENT POPPING SOUNDS. THIS WAS FOLLOWED IMMEDIATELY BY SEVERE POWER LOSS FROM THE ENGINE. SHE DROVE IT TO THE NEXT BEST OFF-RAMP, AN ADDITIONAL 2 MILES. WHEN SHE GOT OFF THE FREEWAY SHE SAYS SHE HAD TO REV IT UP QUITE A BIT TO MAKE AN INTERSECTION TO GET TO THE GAS STATION WHERE THE CAR ROLLED TO A STOP. THAT LOUD BANG TURNED UP TO BE THE NBR 3 CYLINDER BLOWING ITS SPARK PLUG CLEAN OFF THE SPARK PLUG BORE. THE SPARK PLUG BORE WAS COMPLETELY THREADLESS. THE SUBSEQUENT POPPING SOUNDS WERE DUE TO THE SPARK PLUG NOT BEING ON THE NBR 3 CYLINDER AS THE FUEL THAT CONTINUED TO SPRAY INTO THE CYLINDER WAS BURNING OFF. THE IMMEDIATE POWER LOSS IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE ENGINE LOOSING 25% OF ITS CHUGGA-CHUGGA AND THE LOSS OF THE CHT SENSOR SIGNAL WHICH BOTH THEN CAUSED THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) TO GO INTO LIMP MODE AND FURTHER REDUCE ENGINE POWER. FIRST THING I DID WAS PLUG IN MY OBDII SCANNER AND CHECK FOR CODES. I FOUND THE FOLLOWING THREE: P0303 - CYLINDER 3 THREE MISFIRE. P0353 - IGNITION COIL 'C' PRIMARY/SECONDARY CIRCUIT. P1289 - CYLINDER HEAD TEMP SENSOR HIGH INPUT. I THEN PERFORMED A KOEO (KEY-ON/ENGINE-OFF) CHECK WITH MY OBDII SCANNER AND FOUND THE FOLLOWING TWO CODES: P0119 - ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE CIRCUIT INTERMITTENT/ERRATIC. P1289 - CYLINDER HEAD TEMP SENSOR HIGH INPUT. THE CHT PROBE (CYLINDER HEAD TEMPERATURE) COVER/BOOT WAS POPPED OFF THE ENGINE CAMSHAFT COVER AND THE WIRES WERE BROKEN OFF THE CHT PROBE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE SPARK PLUG TERMINAL BROKE OFF. THE IGNITION COIL PACK WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED (LOOKED LIKE AN EXPLODED CIGAR, CARTOON STYLE). *TR

THEY SAID IT DIDN'T PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE AND DID NOT PERFORM THE REQUIRED MAINT. REALLY? THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A COMPLAINT WAS TAKEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY HAD ALSO FAILED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. IN ADDITION, THE AIR CONDITIONER, WATER PUMP, ELECTRONIC BATTERY AND THE COOLING FAN WERE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
AT 65 MPH ON HWY 5 IN LOS ANGELES THE VEHICLE DIED AND THE " STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE CAME ON. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY GET FROM THE 3RD LANE TO THE SHOULDER. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNING OFF THE KEY I WAS ABLE TO RESTART AND CONTINUE. ABOUT 15 MILES LATER IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN WITH THE SAME MESSAGE. AGAIN ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND AFTER PUTTING IT IN PARK TURNED THE KEY OFF AND BACK ON AND WAS AGAIN ON MY WAY. BOTH TIMES THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON SO AFTER THAT I DID NOT USE THE CRUISE AND HAVE NOT HAD ANOTHER OCCURRENCE. *TR
I DROVE MY CAR AROUND THE CORNER TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE. I STARTED TO SMELL SOMETHING BURNING. I PULLED INTO MY FRIEND'S DRIVEWAY AND STOPPED, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING AND I SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE FLOOR AREA AND DASH OF THE CAR. SMOKE FILLED UP THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND OPENED ALL THE DOORS. HAD I NOT TURNED IT OFF, IT WOULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE AS IT WAS SMOKING REALLY BAD AND EXTREMELY HOT INSIDE THE INTERIOR OF THE CAB. THE FUSE BOX WAS BLOWN AND ALL THE WIRING UNDER THE DASH WAS DESTROYED, SO THE FIRE WAS LIKELY DUE TO AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. THE CAR WAS ABLE TO START BUT NOTHING IN THE DASH AREA WAS WORKING - THE SPEEDOMETER AND GAUGES WILL NO LONGER FUNCTION. I AM NOT DRIVING IT DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES AND AM HAVING IT CHECKED BY A MECHANIC. *TR

AUGUST 2011 - HAD DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 200 MILES TN INTO VA WHEN STOP SAFELY NOW MESSAGE APPEARS. PULLED OVER, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE ENGINE. NO HELP AVAILABLE LOCALLY AS IT WAS SMALL TOWN LATE SATURDAY. DECIDED TO CONTINUE TRIP HOME - DROVE SLOWLY IN RIGHT LANE FOR LAST 200 MILES. NO RECURRANCE THE REST OF THE WAY. MY MECHANIC COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG UPON RETURN HOME. DID NOT OCCUR AGAIN UNTIL JUNE 9, 2012 - ABOUT 150 MILES FROM HOME. SAME SCENARIO - STOPPED FOR A MINUTE THEN WENT ON. HAPPENED AGAIN ON JUNE 20, 2012. AFTER STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THEN RUNNING AT 70 MPH WHEN MESSAGE APPEARS, THIS TIME THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATLY AND I BARELY GOT ONTO THE SHOULDER WITH TRAFFIC SPEEDING BY ABOUT 2 FEET OFF MY RIGHT. TRIED TO START AGAIN BUT MESSAGE THAT THE ENGINE WAS DANGEROUSLY HEATED APPEARED. AFTER SITTING FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, IT STARTED, I TURNED ON THE HEAT (DESPITE 90+ OUTSIDE TEMP) AND GOT OFF AT NEXT EXIT AND PARKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. STARTED UP AND DROVE HOME. NO OTHER OCCURANCE SINCE. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME NOW THAT I NEED A COOLANT PUMP BASED ON THE STORED SERVICE CODE. WILL COST OVER $700 PART AND LABOR. JUST HOPE IT FIXES IT. I HAVE A 2006 FORD ESCAPE. MY CAR ALARM STARTED GOING OFF ON IT'S OWN FOR A FEW DAYS. THEN THE CAR "AJAR DOOR" LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING FROM A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT. SO I TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET THE PROBLEM INSPECTED. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RIGHT REAR DOOR FAULT. SO I ASKED HIM TO EXPLAIN. THE TECH SAID THAT FORD HAD REDESIGNED THE REAR DOOR LATCH AND THAT IT REQUIRES A NEW CABLE WHICH WILL COST ME $404.00 TO REPLACE. NEEDLESS TO SAY MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR, BECAUSE THAT WAS JUST ONE DOOR. APPARENTLY, AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE FOR A CHEAPER SOLUTION, I CAME ACROSS SO MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM SINCE 2001. EVIDENTLY FORD HAVE NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD. IF THE REAR DOOR LATCH IS LIKELY TO GO BAD THEN IT'S JEOPARDIZING THE SAFETY OF THE CHILDREN THAT'S REQUIRED TO SIT IN THE BACK SEAT. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE COOLING FAN UNIT FOR THE HYBRID BATTERY AND THE WIRING SAFETY HARNESS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED A SECOND TIME WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE COOLING FAN UNIT FOR THE HYBRID BATTERY AND THE WIRING SAFETY HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED; YET, IT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED WHEN THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. WHEN THE COBATTERY WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE STARTED BUT THE ELECTRICAL FAILURES CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,576.

AT LESS THAN 28000 MILES, THE 06 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED PRODUCED A SHARP, SHORT SCRAPING NOISE AT THE FIRST TURN OF THE STARTER. IT MOSTLY DOES IT ON THE FIRST START, BUT NOT ALWAYS. TOOK IT TO JONES WEST FORD IN RENO AND THEIR COMMENT WAS "ALL ESCAPES DO THAT". I'M RETIRED, AND WILL BE DRIVING THIS MACHINE FOR A LONG TIME. I'D LIKE IT TO BE DEPENDABLE. DEALER REPLACED RADIO UNDER WARRANTY. IN 2005 BROUGHT VEHICLE IN TO DEALER AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. DEALER CLAIMS THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NOTHING DONE. IN 2006 BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER AGAIN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, VEHICLE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. DEALER CHARGED $80 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. STATED PROBLEM WAS DEFECTIVE RADIO, OFFERED TO REPLACE RADIO FOR $390 PLUS TAX. I DECLINED AND HAD AN AFTER MARKET RADIO INSTALLED. PROBLEM PERSISTED. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO LOCATED A DEFECTIVE FUSE PANEL ACCESSORY CONTROL RELAY AND REPLACED IT. PROBLEM NO LONGER EXISTS. *NM
