Your car's ignition key got stuck in the ignition switch and wouldn't come out, even though the engine was running and the car was in Park. The problem got worse over time. A mechanic diagnosed a failed ignition lock cylinder that needs to be replaced. You'll need to have the ignition lock cylinder removed and replaced with a new one.

FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF THE ABS WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ILLUMINATED. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE LATEST RECALL FIXED REGARDING THE RESERVOIR CAP. FORD COULDN'T GET THE ABS WARNING LIGHT TO TURN OFF...SO, HENCE THE LIGHT STILL INTERMIDANTLY COMES ON AND OFF. ALSO, THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON WHEN I START MY CAR AND WHEN I AM SLOWING DOWN. I JUST HAD MY MECHANIC CHANGE THE OIL A WEEK AGO AND AND STILL HAVING THE PROBLEM. ONE LAST THING, THE AIR BAG ILLUMINATION LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER AND THEY COULDN'T GET IT TO TURN OFF. I'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY MORE THAN 6 TIMES, BUT BEFORE, IT WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 30 MPH, BUT THIS TIME, IT HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY. IT HAPPENED WHILE PUTTING ON MY BREAKS, AND I BELIEVE IT WAS ONE OF THE RECALL PROBLEM THAT THE CAR STOPS WHILE DECELERATING. HOWEVER, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT RECALL WORKS HAVE BEEN ALREADY DONE ON THE CAR BEFORE IT HAPPENED. THE AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND THEN THE LIGHT WAS OFF. I'VE HAD THE CAR NOW FOR 10 YEARS THIS DECEMBER. I CAN'T RECALL A TIME MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS NOT BEEN ON. JUST RECENTLY I STARTED RESEARCHING AND FOUND THEIR IS A SHORT WIRE UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT AND IT HAS A LITTLE GRAY PRONG ON IT. THE GRAY PRONG NEEDS TO BE GROUNDED AND IT SHOULD BE ATTACHED THE BARS THE SEAT SLIDES BACK AND FORTH ON. I STUCK THE GRAY PLUG IN AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT OUT. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS EVERY TIME YOU MOVE THE SEAT IT PUSHES THE GRAY PLUG DOWN AND EVENTUALLY IT WILL COME BACK ON AND I WILL HAVE TO FIX IT AGAIN. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS AN EASY FIX AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY DON'T CHANGE THE PLUG OR MAKE A LONGER CORD. FORD NEEDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I LOVE MY CAR BUT HATE THE FRUSTRATION. *JB

WE PARKED THE CAR AND WENT IN FOR SERVICES THAT MORNING AND AT THE END OF MASS WERE CALLED TO THE BACK BY THE PRIEST WHO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A FIRE. SURE ENOUGH THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS THERE AND HAD EXTINGUISHED A FIRE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE OFFICIAL REPORT STATED THE FIRE ORIGINATING IN THE CRUISE CONTROL/ BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR AREA. THE ESCAPE WAS A TOTAL WRITE-OFF. ALL RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE ABS/CRUISE SYSTEMS WERE SERVICED ABOUT 2 YEARS PREVIOUS TO THIS EVENT.

I HAVE TO USE CLEAR PACKAGING TAPE TO HOLD THEM UP. THE KEY TO THE IGNITION WILL NOT TURN UNLESS I USE SOMETHING WITH A HARD END AND TAP IT SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN THE IGNITION PROBLEM FIRST HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2006 I CALLED FORD ROAD SIDE SERVICE AND THEY RECOMMENDED TAPPING THE KEY SEVERAL TIMES AND SAID THEY HAD A GROWING COMPLAINT OF THIS. MY TRUNK LOCK LATCH OFTEN GETS STUCK TOO. JAN OF 2003 THE RADIO SHORTS IN AND OUT, I NEVER KNOW IF IT'S GOING TO STAY ON. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS THE COIL ONCE AGAIN AND WAS REPLACED AT 52,980 MILES. IN JULY 2006 THE VEHICLE RAN POORLY FOR A THIRD TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT MOISTURE HAD ENTERED THE COIL. NO EXPLANATION FOR HOW THAT WAS HAPPENING WAS GIVEN. COST $180 TO REPAIR. YESTERDAY, AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF RAIN, I WENT TO ONCE AGAIN START MY TRUCK. IT EXACTLY REPEATED THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT. THIS TIME HOWEVER, I DROVE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER...IT COULD NOT TRAVEL MORE THAN 30 MILES AN HOUR. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS TIME COILS NUMBER 4 AND 6 HAD FAILED. COST THIS TIME $325. ONCE AGAIN I WAS TOLD MOISTURE HAD SOMEHOW GOTTEN INTO THE COIL SYSTEM. SO IN OTHER WORDS, I OWN A TRUCK THAT CANNOT SIT IDLE FOR EVEN A DAY IN RAINY OR DAMP WEATHER WITHOUT A COIL BURNING OUT. FROM WHAT I GATHER FROM READING THE TRAVAILS OF OTHER ESCAPE OWNERS IS THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. FORD SAYS "THERE MUST BE A PIN HOLE SOMEWHERE THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO FIX". AS SOON AS TERMINAL WAS REMOVED THE SOUND CEASED. THE CAR WAS LATER TOWED TO STEPP BROTHERS LINCOLN MERCURY WHERE IT REMAINS AS OF TODAY. I BOUGHT A NEW 2002 FORD ESCAPE XLT 4X4. 4 MONTHS AFTER RECEIVING IT FROM THE FACTORY, IT LOST POWER AND DIED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED IT. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY "REPROGRAMMED AND RESET THE RELAY SWITCH" SAYING THAT WOULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEN LAST WEEK, I WAS TRAVELLING 30 MPH ON A BUSY ROAD WHEN THE EXACT SAME THING OCCURRED. THE ENGINE STOPPED AND I LOST ALL POWER, INCLUDING POWER STEERING. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS AS I WAS GOING AROUND A CURVE AND NEARLY WENT INTO THE ONCOMING LANES AND I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD JUST AROUND A CURVE, WHERE A CAR COULD COME AROUND THE CORNER AND NOT BE ABLE TO STOP IN TIME BEFORE HITTING ME. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO COAST FOR A FEW FEET AND THEN RESTART THE CAR AGAIN. I RETURNED TO THE SAME FORD DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND THEY "REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER AGAIN" I HAVE HAD NEW CARS BEFORE AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN OR HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS SAFE TO HAVE A CAR'S ENGINE JUST STOP WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH ON A ROAD. I FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING DEFECTIVE WITH THE COMPUTER THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE AND THE COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.*AK

I PURCHASED A FORD ESCAPE 2002 IN APRIL OF LAST YEAR FROM THE ABLE FORD DEALERSHIP IN ROCKVILLE CENTRE. THE PROCESSOR (COMPUTER PART OF THE ENGINE) FAILED IN MARCH 2003 AND WAS REPLACED IT'S NOW MAY 2003 I AM STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE PROCESSOR. THEY TOOK THE CAR IN ON FRIDAY MAY 16, 2003 AND PUT A HORNEST ON THE ENGINE (PROCESSOR) AND GAVE ME THE CAR BACK THAT DAY. AN HOUR AFTER I GOT MY CAR BACK FROM THE ABLE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN ROCKVILLE CENTER, NY THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE CORRECTED THAT DAY. THEY CURRENTLY HAVE MY CAR IN THEIR POSSESSION NOW. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I'M BRINGING MY VEHICLE TO THEM FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY CAN'T TELL ME WHY THIS VEHICLE IS MALFUNCTIONING AND I'VE CALLED AND MADE COMPLAINTS TO THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANYONE CONTACTING ME OR PROVIDING ME WITH ANSWERS. I CALLED THE SALESMAN MARK DEMARTINI WHO SOLD ME THE CAR. HE WAS ALSO RUDE AND TOLD ME TO CALL LAURA THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT MANGER. I CALLED LAURA AND LEFT HER A MESSAGE. SHE NEVER CALLED BACK. I HAVE A BRAND NEW VEHICLE THAT SPENDS MORE TIME AT FORD THAN WITH ME DRIVING IT AND I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN MY OWN VEHICLE. AT ANY TIME BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM MY CAR COULD SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. I AM BEING GIVEN THE RUN AROUND AND FORD IS NOT PROVIDING ANSWERS AS TO THE MALFUNCTIONING OF MY NEW VEHICLE AND I FEEL CHEATED AND VIOLATED. ON THREE OCCASIONS I HAVE TAKEN MY ESCAPE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM ADDRESSED, AS PER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. EACH TIME I AM TOLD THAT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED AND THAT IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. TO DATE, OVER THE SPAN OF MY OWNERSHIP, THE VEHICLE HAS DEMONSTRATED THIS PROBLEM SIX TIMES. EACH TIME IT HAS CREATED AN UNSAFE CONDITION FOR MY FAMILY AND ME. THIS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE WHICH THE SERVICE STAFF CANNOT SEEM TO FIX. THE STALLING DOES NOT OCCUR WITH ANY PARTICULAR FREQUENCY. IT HAS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING HOME, WHILE DRIVING TO WORK, WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, AND WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL APPROACHING A BEND IN THE ROAD. SINCE I AM NOT ABLE TO USE THIS VEHICLE SAFELY AS INTENDED WHEN I PURCHASED IT, DUE TO A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT, I AM SEEKING A REMEDY OTHER THAN SERVICE DEPT APPOINTMENTS.
