Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 9, 2015, to August 12, 2016. During dealer servicing, the affected vehicles may be have been updated with incorrect Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) software. This software can cause the ESC system to lose engine torque control, and not provide any warning lamps to warn the driver if there was an ABS or ESC system malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems" and number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the ABS module, and update the service software, free of charge. The recall begin November 22, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C14.

Your car is subject to a safety recall for a potential leak in the rear brake hose that was issued in September 2025. Despite multiple calls to Ford dealerships over six months, parts remain unavailable and you haven't been able to schedule a repair. A leaking brake hose can reduce braking performance and creates a safety hazard. The repair would involve replacing the rear brake hose with an available replacement part.

Your brakes suddenly failed while driving in March 2025, and you paid $563.16 to have them repaired at a Ford dealership. Six months later, Ford issued a recall for the same brake issue, but the dealership told you they won't refund your repair cost until they receive a second recall letter, which they couldn't estimate when it would arrive. You're frustrated that you have to wait for a refund on a repair that turned out to be a manufacturer defect covered by recall.

Your brake system completely failed when the front brake hose ruptured at a connection point, causing you to lose all brake fluid and braking power. This happened on January 25, 2026, and matches a known safety recall (25V-544). Your authorized Ford dealer refused to service the vehicle or provide a loaner car, stating that Ford hasn't released a fix yet. The repair will likely involve replacing the front brake hose and refilling the brake fluid system.

See attached document for complaint. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the handling of safety recalls 25V572 and 25V544 on my vehicle, and to urgently request your assistance in having all repairs authorized at a local Ford dealership, due to the profound unprofessionalism and neglect I have experienced from the selling dealership, Pure Honda Ferndale. My vehicle is a 2016 Ford Edge Sport with approximately 101,003 miles. I purchased it from Pure Honda Ferndale just prior to being notified of these active recalls, after which the vehicle was understandably grounded. The core of my issue lies with the conduct of the dealership's management. Before the recall notice and the vehicle being pulled from sale, I was in direct communication with the General Manager, Mr. Sheldon Taylor. He personally assured me that he would resolve several preexisting issues, including arranging for a vehicle exchange or repairs. These issues include the dealership selling me defective and outdated tires and a rim package that no local tire shop will service, as well as a noticeable and hazardous defect in the SYNC system where the screen experiences complete blackouts, particularly when using the navigation and radio. However, once the reca ll was enforced, Mr. Taylor ceased all communication and delegated my case to a sales representative, who has since also ignored my repeated calls and the recall notices I have provided. I have been left with a vehicle I cannot safely drive due to the open recalls and an infotainment system that fails unpredictably, creating significant distraction and safety risk. The dealership that sold me this problematic vehicle now refuses to take responsibility for its prior promises. Given the complete breakdown in communication and the lack of professional accountability from Pure Honda Ferndale, I do not trust them to manage my vehicle's critical safety repairs or address this additional SYNC system defect. Therefore, I respectfully request that the NHTSA assist me in obtaining permission to have the required recall repairs (2SVS72 and 25V544) as well as the diagnosis and repair of the SYNC system blackouts completed at a certified Ford dealership near my home. I believe this is a necessary step to ensure all work is done correctly and that I am treated with the professionalism and respect that Pure Honda Ferndale has failed to provide. For your reference, I have included photographs of the vehicle, taken approximately four days after I took possession, which document its condition at that time. I look forward to your prompt response and guidance on how to resolve this serious matter.

For the 3rd time in 9 years, my car's brakes stopped working. Submitted complaint to NHTSA back in 2020 the 2nd time it happened (the 1st time under warranty). In January 2025 left work to drive 17 miles home, only to find that the minute I drove into traffic my brakes weren't working again, straight to the floor! Drove 20 minutes to nearest dealer in traffic with hazards on while consistently pulling the emergency brake - it was an awful experience! Next day they say brake hoses were broken and fluid was EVERYWHERE! I heard one employee tell another, "What is going on with these cars and their brake hoses?" This time I had to pay over $1,000 to get it fixed. I'm warning everyone I know NOT to buy this car! My 3 experiences have been so horrid that it absolutely has made me realize that Ford is just not for me or my family!

This issue is one that was made a recall already as of recent, I had gotten my brake lines flushed and refilled and filled to correct amount and yet soon after or not to too long after I had the issue with breaking, I thought it was my brake pads but it indeed was not when I got home and the engine cooled down I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it had been almost empty, I added more and filled it again and since then it hasn’t been a problem again, but when it was a problem, I was going highway speeds when I then felt the car was off on the braking I was actually concerned if I was going to be able to stop in time especially when i was hitting the exit ramp. It no longer has been an issue since I refilled the reservoir but i don’t know if it’ll happen again or not and when and where I’ll be next time it happens. Since I now know it’s a recall and it wasn’t just a one off with just my car I am now reporting this.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would depress to the floorboard as the brake fluid warning light would appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics where the brake master cylinder, brake calipers, brake booster, and ABS system were all replaced; however, the failure returned soon after each repair. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where the vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics); however, the repair failed to correct the brake issue. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

Brakes failed and car rolled forward while stopped at a traffic light because of right rear brake line failure. This is the THIRD brake line failure on this vehicle. To this date, Ford has refused to reimburse me for those repairs.

Again and luckily no one was injured or crash occurred as a result of this failure which put my wife and I at a great risk. We were able to slowly and carefully bring the car to our mechanic immediately thus no tow was required. No police or first responders were needed. There was no indication of failure until the brake pedal went immediately all the way to the floor. I start pumping the pedal like crazy and yanking the E brake lever and barely stop before hitting someone... Car has been in the dealership (North Central Ford in Richardson, TX) 2 or 3 times since 2020; one for a transmission bushing recall I believe, and brake line was NEVER mentioned. They showed each instance for service in their system to me on their monitor, and showed that it never appeared to the service techs for them to inform me of the recall. They said they didn't know why it wouldn't show up. Ford really dropped the ball here, the only thing that saved me was quick thinking on the e-brake.

The electronic emergency/parking brake has failed/malfunctioned. After searching online, I discovered that other people have the same issue. As I recall, at least one of the posters said that a Ford technician told them that the wiring harness was made too short and the wires rub on the frame and fray causing an electrical short which renders the emergency brake useless. This appears to be a manufacturer's defect, in my opinion.

My brakes began leaking. I noticed this when the pedal sank to the floor during a prolonged deceleration and I had to pump the brakes to successfully stop the car. No warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms appeared prior to the soft brake pedal. I took the vehicle to a local dealer (Priority Ford in Norfolk VA, see invoice for phone and address), who diagnosed it as leaking rear brake lines and replaced two lines. My safety and the safety of others was certainly put at risk. The reason I knew how to recognize and respond to the brake leak was that it has happened to me before -- my 2016 Ford Edge had a front brake line fail earlier, prior to Ford issuing a safety recall for front brake line leaks. Now my rear brake lines have failed... I suspect it warrants a similar safety recall.

After three weeks of not examining the car the dealer decided to put the car on the rack where they discovered the problem being the brake master cylinder and booster. The dealer said our warranty would cover it and they were going to get the parts. There was not a recall on the issue but hearing conversations in the dealership convinced us that the issue should be a recall. We were provided a rental car for 5 days. After we pushed the issue Ford agreed to provide a rental car 60 days because parts are not available. Different stories were told about the part availability until I did research and found tools were available but dealers were not selling or sharing because they have the same issues. There should be buffer on service part tools and the Ford dealers are attempting to contain the situation in house instead of escalating the problem. Currently there are two unresolved issues 1. Recall for brake lines where we were told they had parts and to bring car in . Got to dealer and there were no parts. 2. Dealer inspected car after having for three weeks and by me pushing the issue. Upon inspection dealer realized problem is the master cylinder and brake booster. Parts are not available and there is not a plan to get parts in. Car has been at dealer since June. We have never received a call from Ford to discuss our case which they committed to do with in 24hours of claim. Additional calls to Ford occurred none of which are returned. The lack of parts is concerning but the attempt to keep the issue quite is a larger issue. Ford knows the master cylinder and booster is an issue but will not go through the channels. Problem has not been resolved.

FORD IS SAYING I'LL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS UNTIL THE PROCEDURES COME OUT AND I CAN THEN FILE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I LUCKILY DID NOT TURN INTO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY I DID NOT CRASH INTO ANYONE. I HAD NO BRAKES. THE 'LEAK' OCCURRED WHEN THE LINES BROKE. THIS IS DIFFERENT THEN WHAT THE LETTER SAYS. THEY ACT LIKE IT WILL LEAK AND YOU WILL BE FINE AND LINES WILL BE REPLACED. I HAD NO WARNING. I ASKED FORD TO FIX THIS AND CHECK THEM. FORD KNOWS THESE ARE BAD LINES, BUT ARE NOT FIXING THEM YET. I HAD TO PUT MY LIFE IN DANGER, ALONG WITH OTHERS AROUND ME, BECAUSE OF THIS. FORD SHOULD BE FIXING THE CARS NOW. THEY KNOW WHAT VIN CARS HAVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS GOING TO DRIVE THIS CAR ON MOUNTAIN ROADS THIS WEEK, NOW IT IS SITTING AT FORD. IF I WAS DRIVING IN THOSE ROADS, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN AWFUL. THIS ISN'T A SMALL PROBLEM. IT'S A LAWSUIT PROBLEM IF FORD DOESN'T FIX THE CARS. THEY COULD SAFE SOME LIVES BY TAKING CARE OF THIS NOW. THEY SENT THE LETTERS OUT IN SEPTEMBER. IT'S SCARY TO DRIVE AND THEN HAVE NO WAY TO STOP, EXCEPT HOT SOMETHING. OR BEING LUCKY AND GOING SLOW ENOUGH THAT YOUR EMERGENCY BREAKS WORK. FORD CLEARED MY CAR TO DRIVE, SPECIALLY THE BRAKES, AND THEN THE BRAKES BREAK. THIS IS THE RECALL PROBLEM. THEY COULD HAVE OREVENTED THIS. VERY UPSET. AND WORRIED FOR OTHER A FORD EDGE DRIVERS. I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, URBAN CITY. I WAS IN MOTION. AMD THE BRAKES BROKE. 30,000 MILES.

THE NEXT FEW STOPS...THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CALLED MY FORD DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IF IT COULD BE LOW ON BRAKE FLUID, EVEN THOUGH NO INDICATOR DISPLAYED ON MY DASH. THEY SAID IT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS. BUT AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE AND STOP, IT GOT WORSE. THANKFULLY, INSTEAD OF JUMPING ON THE HIGHWAY, I TOOK ALL BACK ROADS TO THAT DEALERSHIP. PUT EMERGENCY BRAKE ON WITH HAZARD LIGHTS AND WAS ABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A NEARBY RESIDENTIAL AREA. BRAKE FLUID WAS ADDED WITHIN MINUTES; ALL THE FLUID RAN TO THE GROUND. IT WAS TOWED NEXT MORNING TO THE DEALER. DEALER STATED THE BRAKE LINE HAD A 2" SLASH; SAID ANYTHING COULD'VE CAUSED IT. IT WAS FIXED UNDER WARRANTY. ON MARCH 7, 2020, WENT TO RUN ERRANDS. WHEN I PARKED AT LOT, THE BRAKES FELT SOFT. WHEN LEAVING THE STORE LOT, MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR, AGAIN! THIS TIME, I'M ALREADY IN TRAFFIC; SCARIEST THING EVER! AGAIN, PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND AT BARELY NO SPEED AT ALL, TURNED THROUGH RESIDENTIAL STREETS TO GET HOME SAFE. AGAIN HAD IT TOWED MONDAY MORNING, BACK TO THE DEALER. I EXPLAINED THAT THIS PREVIOUSLY HAPPENED IN MAY 2018. NEW INVOICE STATES: "LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE LEAKING," AND "INSPECT AND FOUND LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE SPLITTING/LEAKING; REPLACED LEFT FRONT BRAKE HOSE, BLEED BRAKE SYSTEM, TEST DROVE AND OK AT THIS TIME." THIS TIME? I WAS TOLD THE MAY 2018 ISSUE WAS THE SAME, EXCEPT THAT ONE WAS THE BACK BRAKE HOSE. AND NO WARRANTY THIS TIME; HAD TO PAY OVER $500 FOR REPAIR. VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT FORD HASN'T MADE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I TRAVEL 35 MILES DAILY TO WORK ON THE TOLL ROAD. WHAT AM I TO DO WHEN THIS HAPPENS ON A 60-MILE SPEED LIMIT HIGHWAY? I MET HER AT THE PARKING LOT SHE STOPPED IN AND UPON INVESTIGATING I FOUND BRAKE FLUID ALL UNDER THE VEHICLE AND ALL OVER THE WHEEL LINER. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THE LEFT FRONT LINE RUPTURED. WE HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 5 MONTHS AS WE BOUGHT IT CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED. DEALERSHIP INFORMED US THAT THE LINE WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, IT HAS 24,250 MILES ON IT. THE SELLING DEALERSHIP ADVERTISED THE CPO AS BEING WORTH THE EXTRA PRICE OVER A REGULAR USED CAR BECAUSE IT WOULD TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING WITH THE 12 MONTH/12,000 MIKE BUMPER TO BUMPER, A FLAT OUT LIE. IT BEGAN WITH THE DRIVER SIDE, THE BRAKE LINE STARTED LEAKING AND THE BRAKE PEDAL NEEDED TO BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO INITIATE ANY FORM OF BRAKING ON THE CAR. THE CAR WAS JUST SERVICED, SO IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THE DEALER MESSED SOMETHING UP WHEN FIXING THE CAR. THEN, ONCE IT WAS FIXED 3 MONTHS LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME THE LEAKAGE WAS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. ONCE AGAIN THE BRAKES NEED TO BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR TO WORK AND FLUID WAS LEAKING ALL OVER. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN TO BE FIXED. THEY SAID IT NEEDED TO BE PAID FOR SINCE BUMPER TO BUMPER WAS ONLY COVERED FOR 36,000 MILES. BOTH TIMES THE BRAKE LINES STARTED TO LEAK (WE WERE NEVER GIVEN A REASON BY THE DEALER HOW IT OCCURED) WHILE THE CAR WAS PARKED AND WHEN STARTING THE CAR, THE BRAKE NEEDED TO BE PUSHED DOWN ALL THE WAY TO START THE CAR AND THERE WERE WARNING LIGHTS THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS LOW (DUE TO THE LEAKAGE). THERE WAS MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CONTACT FORD REGARDING THE ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND THEY SAID SINCE THAT SPECIFIC PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THEIR EXTENDED SERVICE PROGRAM THAT WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. WE THOUGHT THE FIRST TIME (7/15/2019) WAS A FREAK ACCIDENT OR THE MECHANIC MESSED UP WHEN CHANGING THE FLUIDS, BUT THEN THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED ON THE OTHER SIDE 3 MONTHS LATER (10/14/2019) AND THAT SHOULD NOT BE A COINCIDENCE.

FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE LINE BURST WHILE DRIVING (APPLYING THE BRAKE DURING A TURN ON A CITY STREET), WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS, CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO DEPRESS ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR AND MAKING THE VEHICLE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP (BY THE TIME I MADE IT HOME IT WAS HARDLY STOPPING AT ALL). FORD REPLACED THE LINE AND SAID IT HAD JUST "WORN OUT" (THOUGH THE CAR WAS JUST OVER 2 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME AND HAD UNDER 24000 MILES). TODAY (08/27/2019) THE OTHER FRONT BRAKE LINE SEEMS TO HAVE BURST (PASSENGER SIDE) AGAIN WHILE DRIVING (AGAIN WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE THIS TIME AT A STOP LIGHT ON A CITY STREET) AND AGAIN CAUSING THE PEDAL TO GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND MAKING THE CAR EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP. THIS IS A HAZARDOUS SITUATION AND VERY CONCERNING THAT IT HAS OCCURRED TO BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES WITHIN THE PAST YEAR, AND ALL WHILE THE CAR IS UNDER 3 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 36,000 MILES.
