Owner Complaints (9)
Your car started smoking from under the hood and through the air vents, then overheated. When you opened the hood, smoke came out forcefully and something hit you in the face, breaking your oil dipstick. Your engine is now running hot, smoking, and making loud noises that sound concerning. The engine may have a serious internal problem causing overheating and smoke, which typically requires professional engine inspection and repair.

While driving, your electrical system, engine, and steering all shut down without warning, leaving you without lights or power steering in the dark. This is a serious safety hazard that could cause a crash. The issue likely involves a complete electrical system failure, possibly related to the alternator, battery, or main electrical connections that need to be diagnosed and repaired.

Your alternator keeps failing and needs to be replaced repeatedly. You'll hear a ticking sound before the alternator dies, and when it does, it drains your battery completely — even though you've installed a brand new battery. This pattern has happened multiple times, suggesting the alternator failure is damaging the battery each time. The fix will involve diagnosing why the alternator is failing prematurely and replacing it along with the battery.

Your car has widespread electrical issues affecting multiple systems. Your driver's side brake light and license plate light don't work when the car is in drive, which is a safety violation and has resulted in police stops. Your window rolls down on its own and you've had to disconnect it, and your rear windshield wiper motor doesn't work. The owner believes faulty wiring is causing these problems and that they should be covered under a recall.

HAVE NOT BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT REPLACING THE PASSENGER AIR BAG AND THE IS ON FOR THE AIR BAG.
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD THE IGNITION KEY STICK IN THE STARTING POSITION WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO START THE CAR. THIS HAPPENED AS I LET GO OF THE KEY AFTER TURNING IT TO THE START POSITION. THE KEY CAN BE MANUALLY TURNED BACK TO THE OFF OR RUN POSITION. THIS HAS SOMETIMES RESULTED IN A SUCCESSFUL ENGINE START AND AT OTHER TIMES I HAVE CAUGHT IT BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTED. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER HAS ISSUED RECALLS FOR THIS ON OTHER MODELS OR YEARS, BUT NOT FOR THIS CAR.
WHEN AND EVERYTIME VECH. IS REFUELED, GET BLOWBACK OF FUEL. DURING 1 TRIP, FUEL RAN BACK DOWN OUTSIDE OF FILL PIPE AND GAS TANK, AND HIT HOT MUFFLER, LUCKLY IT DID NOT IGNITE. CAN'T FILL GAS TANK MORE THAN HALF WAY, WITHOUT THIS HAPPENING. CALLED DEALER, SERVICE MGR. TOOK VIN#, SAID WASN'T COVER UNDER RECALL OF ANY TYPE, BUT WILL CORRECT PROBLEM WITH NEW GAS TANK FOR APROX. $1000. ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT HAPPEN TWICE NOW, IS ELECT. SYSTEM GOES OUT, LOOSING ALL POWER TO STEERING AND BRAKES, THIS HAPPEN TWICE. ONE TIME WAS WHILE TOWING CAMPER ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WITH TRAFFIC, WE JUST BARELY GOT OFF ROAD. AGAIN DEALERSHIP, SAID THE RECALL FOR INSTRUMENT AND WIRING COULDN'T AND WOULDN'T CAUSE CAR TO JUST SHUT DOWN AS DESCRIBED. BUT THEY WOULD BE HAPPY TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND CORRECT ANY WIRING PROBLEMS, SAYING COST COULD BE A FEW HUNDRED OR MORE. HAVE CALLED CHRYSLER 3 TIMES, THEY TAKEN INFO. SAID SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT, NEVER A CALL BACK. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED AS A USED CAR FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP, WITH ONLY A LITTLE OVER 10,000. MILES IN 2013, 5YRS OLD AND ONLY 2000 PER YEAR SHOULD OF BEEN A RED FLAG, BUT WAS TOLD A OLDER GENTLEMAN HAD AND FORD DEALER SHOWED A CARFAX REPORT THAT FIT THE MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER BEING PARKED OVERNIGHT, IT APPEARED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN INVOLVED IN A THERMAL EVENT. THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTED AND HALF OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL WAS BURNED ALONG WITH OTHER EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED AND THE CONTACT WAS ASSURED IT WAS NOT DUE TO A DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. UPDATED 3/27/13 *CN
