AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) expanded the affected population to include 73,712 2005-2009 RAM 2500 trucks produced at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant. With this change, Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 RAM 1500, 2005-2009 RAM 2500, 2006-2009 RAM 3500, 2007-2010 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis, 2008-2010 RAM 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis, 2004-2009 Dodge Durango, 2007-2009 Chrysler Aspen, 2007-2012 Jeep Wrangler, 2008-2012 Dodge Challenger, 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum, 2005-2012 Chrysler 300, 2006-2012 Dodge Charger, 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota, and 2006-2009 Mitsubishi Raider vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in AL, CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MS, SC, TX, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the recall repair is complete. Chrysler will notify the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM owners. Mitsubishi owners will be notified by their company. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S43. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-7700.

AIR BAGS

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2004-2005 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500, 2004-2005 Dodge Durango, 2005 Dodge Dakota, 2005 Dodge Magnum and 2005 Chrysler 300, 300C and 300 SRT8 vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in geographic locations associated with high absolute humidity. Specifically, vehicles sold, or ever registered, in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Saipan, Guam, and American Samoa are addressed by this recall. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. For vehicles that were sold, or are currently registered, in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, owners were notified and the recall began on December 5, 2014. For all other vehicles, Chrysler notified owners and the recall began on February 3, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P40 Expanded. Note: This recall has been superseded by recall 16V-352. This recall superseded the passenger air bag portion of recall 14V-354.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Dodge Ram 2500, 2004-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 and Durango, 2006-2009 Dodge Ram 3500, 2008-2010 Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500, 2007-2008 Chrysler Aspen, 2005-2010 Chrysler 300, 300C, 300S, and SRT8, 2006-2010 Dodge Charger, 2005-2008 Magnum, 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota, and 2006-2009 Mitsubishi Raider vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the recall repair is complete. Chrysler will notify the affected Chrysler and Dodge owners and Mitsubishi will notify the affected Raider owners. Dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began for Chrylser on June 8, 2015. The recall for Mitsubishi started on June 24, 2015. Chrysler and Dodge owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Mitsubishi owners may call 1-888-648-7820. Chrysler's number for this recall is R25. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V817 in its entirety. Vehicles that have had their driver side frontal air bag replaced previously need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well.

Your airbag warning light on the dashboard turns on and off intermittently, even though the Takata airbag recall was already completed. The light started appearing about 6 months ago, and you're concerned whether the airbag will work properly in a crash or might deploy unexpectedly. A dealer inspection is needed to diagnose why the warning light persists after the recall repair.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS GOING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD AND THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND T-BONED THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND THE FRAME WAS FRACTURED IN HALF. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED WHIPLASH AND INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK. ONE PASSENGER WAS TRANSPORTED BY TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE AND ANOTHER PASSENGER WAS DRIVEN TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE. TRI LAKES FORD (180 STATE HWY F, BRANSON, MO 65616, (417) 334-7543) ACKNOWLEDGED THE AIR BAGS BEING REPLACED ON OCTOBER 22, 2019, BUT DENIED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO STAR DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (5101 S 1ST ST, ABILENE, TX 79605, (325) 698-2222) AND THEY CLAIMED TO HAVE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AFTERWARDS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE AIR BAGS. ON ONE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THE DEPLOYMENT INJURED THE CONTACT'S LEFT EAR, WHICH REQUIRED HOSPITALIZATION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. TAKATA RECALL I WAS DRIVING AROUND ALL DAY AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE, AFTER I STOPPED AT A SHOP AND RETURNED TO MY VEHICLE MY AIRBAG LIGHT ON MY DASH CAME ON, I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED UP ANY ACTIVE RECALLS AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE 2 ON MY VEHICLE ACCORDING TO THE VIN. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE RECALL REPAIR THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE 2 RECALLS, HOWEVER THE AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINED ON. WHEN I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS THEY CLAIM IT IS A SEPARATE ISSUE AND WANTED TO CHARGE ME $150 JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE. THEY RELEASED THE VEHICLE TO ME, STILL WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON. WHEN CONFRONTED IN REGARDS TO THE LIGHT BEING ON THE DEALERSHIP HAD NO CONCERN ABOUT THE LIGHT UNLESS I PAID $$$. BEING A RECALL WITH THE AIRBAGS I WOULD THINK THAT THE LIGHT REMAINING ON AND REPAIRING WHAT HAS TRIGGERED THE LIGHT TO BE COVERED UNDER THIS REPAIR.

TAKATA RECALL. I HAD THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS REPAIRED ON 3/2/18 AT GLENN THOMAS IN SIGNAL HILL, CA. ON THIS DAY AFTER I WAS INFORMED THE JOB FOR THE AIR BAG REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. I SIGNED THE PAPERS ,AND I DROVE OFF THE LOT. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT WAS ON THE MY DASH. I WAS ONLY 10 MINUTES AWAY, SO I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND LEFT A VOICE MESSAGE. BUT I WENT AHEAD AND DROVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SO THEY COULD SEE THAT THE LIGHT WAS ON. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK IN AND THE SERVICE ADVISOR PUT THE DIAGNOSTICS TOOL ON THE CAR AND IT GAVE HIM A PRINTOUT OF POSSIBLE ISSUES. HE THEN HAD A TECHNICIAN LOOK AT THE CAR. I WAITED IN THE CUSTOMER WAITING ROOM. WITHIN 30 MINUTES, THE ADVISOR CAME INTO THE WAITING AREA AND TOLD ME IT WAS THE SEAT TRACKING SENSOR ? (I MAY HAVE THE CORRECT WORDING INCORECCT) . I WAS THEN QUOTED A REPAIR PRICE OF $270 FOR ONE SEAT (DRIVER'S SIDE). I WAS TOLD THEY ONLY HAVE 1 PART IN STOCK AT THE TIME AND THAT IT WOULD BE 3 HOURS TO REPAIR. I DID NOT HAVE THE TIME TO WAIT FOR THIS REPAIR NOR DID I HAVE THE $270 FOR THE REPAIR. I THEN ASKED CAN THE CAR BE DRIVEN WITH THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT ON, AND I WAS TOLD YES, BUT THE AIRBAGS MAY NOT WORK PROPERLY IF INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT (CRASH). MY QUESTION... IS IF THIS SEAT TRACKING SENSOR IS IMPORTANT TO THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE AIR BAGS WHY IS THIS NOT COVERED UNDER THE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. AND WHY IS IT NOT FREE TO THE CUSTOMER. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR IF THERE IS A OPEN ACTIVE RECALL AND THIS REPAIR FOR THE SEAT TRACKING IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE AIRBAGS. I DROPPED VEHICLE OFF FOR SERVICE WERE I WAS REFERRED TO DODGE/JEEP/CHRYSLER AND WAS TOLD I WOULD RECEIVE VEHICLE BEFORE THE END OF DAY PICKED VEHICLE UP NEXT DAY. DROVE OF LOT THE LIGHT WAS OFF. FEW DAYS LATER THE LIGHT ON PASSENGER SIDE COMES ON AND OFF. I HAVE CONTACTED PLACE WERE I HAD AIRBAGS REPLACED AND HAVE NOT GOTTEN A CALL BACK TO TAKE IT BACK TO BE SERVICED. AT APPROXIMATELY 72,000 MILES - VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHOW SIGNS OF RUST THROUGH AT BOTH REAR QUARTER PANELS AND BOTH ROCKER PANELS. BY 85000 MILES - COMPLETE BODY RUST THROUGH FAILURE WAS IRREPARABLE - VEHICLE WAS MAINTAINED EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN. 3. AT 100000 MILES - NOTED BY WAY OF MECHANIC THAT THE ENGINE WAS 'SLUDGED UP' TO THE POINT THAT THE VALVE TRAIN WAS STARVED OF LUBRICATION AND SUBSEQUENTLY - THE ENGINE HAS ENCOUNTERED WHAT APPEARS TO BE A TOTAL CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. VALVES, LASH ADJUSTER, PISTON ROD OR BEARINGS MAY ALL BE DESTROYED DIRECTLY DUE TO POOR DESIGN AND LOW QUALITY COMPONENTS FROM FCA. THERE ARE HUNDREDS (THOUSANDS) OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ACROSS MULTIPLE MEDIA REGARDING THIS 'FAMILIAR' DODGE ENGINE BREAKDOWN. FCA - OF COURSE - DENIES CULPABILITY CITING POOR USER MAINTENANCE. TO MAKE THIS SO BAD I COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS BEFORE SO HAS MY WIFE. MY SUV LITERALLY WENT THROUGH 3 WALLS AND SEVERAL ROOMS. I HAVE 3 DISK FUSED IN MY NECK AND SEVERAL OF THE SCREWS ARE BROKE. I CAN LIVE BEING A CRIPPLE BUT I CANT LIVE WITH OUT MY WIFE. CHRYSLER HAD INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I TOLD HIM IT WAS AT EAGLE PAINT AND BODY, AND DID HE NEED ME TO STOP ALL REPAIRS. HE TOLD ME KNOW HE COULD GET HIS DATA FROM COMPUTER. THE CHRYSLER LEGAL TEAM SENT NE A NASTY LETTER STATING THAT I HADE MOVED THE VEHICLE AND THEY WERE NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE. I EVEN TRIED TO CALL CHRYSLER BACK TO TELL THEM THE SUV DID THE SAME THING, BUT THEY INFORMED ME LEGAL TOOK OVER THE CASE AND THEY NEEDED NO OTHER DATA FROM ME. EVERY DEALER HAS INDICATED THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK, CHRYSLER HAS NOT RELEASED THE PARTS AND/OR CHRYSLER WILL NOT ALLOW THE DEALERS TO SPECIAL ORDER THE PARTS. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THEREFORE, I AM FILING A COMPLAINT AT THIS TIME. MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO HAS BEEN TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR FOR A DEFECT IN THE AIR BAG SYSTEM SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANYONE BEING ABLE TO REPAIR IT. THE DEFECT IS IN THE NEW SYSTEM OF PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG WHERE THE SEAT WEIGHT DECIDES IF THE AIR BAG SHOULD BE ON OR OFF. MY SYSTEM DISABLES THE ENTIRE SYSTEM ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND THE SEAT HAS TO BE RECALIBRATED FOR THE LIGHT TO BE RESET. THIS IS VERY ALARMING AS I DRIVE MOST OF THE TIME WITHOUT ANY AIR BAGS. ONE TIME WHEN IT WAS IN FOR REPAIR THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME A 2005 DODGE CARAVAN TO DRIVE AND IT ALSO HAD THE MAIN AIRBAG LIGHT AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER LIGHT ON AND WHEN I INQUIRED AS TO WHY I WAS TOLD BY AN EMPLOYEE THAT ALL OF THE CARAVANS CAME IN THAT WAY AND WERE AWAITING SENSORS. MINE WAS NEVER DETERMINED TO NEED A SENSOR BECAUSE ALL THEY DO IS SEE WHAT THE MAIN COMPUTER SAYS AND IT KEEPS SAYING TO RECALIBRATE THE SEAT WHICH SEEMS OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS MORE TO IT. I THINK THIS DESIGN IS FLAWED AND IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO BE PLACED IN AND IT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. I AM TRYING TO GET CHRYSLER TO GIVE ME A REFUND AS THE MICHIGAN LEMON LAW STATES BUT THEY ARE DRAGGING THEIR FEET. I KNOW OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE 2004 DURANGOS AND HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM ALSO. I CAN IMAGINE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DRIVING AROUND WITH THESE VEHICLES EVERY DAY WITHOUT THE SAFETY OF AIR BAG AND ARE TRYING THEIR BEST TO GET THE DEALERSHIPS TO REPAIR IT WITHOUT THE DEALERSHIPS KNOWING HOW TO. *JB

SINCE PURCHASING MY 2004 DURANGO I HAVE CONTINUEOUSLY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMING ON AND DISABLING THE WHOLE SYSTEM. I HAVE HAD IT IN FOR REPAIRS WITH 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS 7 TIMES. IT SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE NEW PASSENGER SEAT TECHNOLOGY WHERE THE SEAT ITSELF DETERMINES IF THE AIR BAG SHOULD BE ON OR OFF BY WEIGHT. INSTEAD OF WORKING PROPERLY MINE JUST SHUTS THE WHOLE SYSTEM DOWN WHEN IT IS CONFUSED SUCH AS SOMEONE EXITING THAT SEAT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. NOTHING IS SHOWING THE THE COMPUTER EXECT THAT THE SEAT NEEDS CALIBRATING. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY THIS KEEPS HAPPENING BUT WHEN I GOT MY LOANER, A NEW DODGE CARAVAN THIS VEHICLE ALSO HAD THE AIR BAG LIGHT ON AND WHEN I INQUIRED I WAS TOLD THAT ALL THE CARAVANS THAT CAME IN HAD THIS PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE IS SOMETHING TERRIBLY WRONG WITH THIS SYSTEM AND I WOULD RATHER HAVE A SYSTEM WHERE I CAN TURN OFF OR ON THE AIRBAG INSTEAD OF DRIVING WITH NO AIR BAG PROTECTION AT ALL.

I HYDROPLAINED OFF THE ROAD, AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE AT ABOUT 60 MPH. I SMASHED THE DRIVER SIDE FENDER INTO THE MOTOR, AND BROKE THE FRAME. ALSO, I BROKE BOTH SEATS IN THE FRONT BACK.THE DODGE INVESTIGATOR TOTALED IT . I ASKED DODGE WHAT THE WERE GOING TO DO, THEY SAID THAT I HAD TO HIT THE POLE DIRECTLY IN THE FRONT. I GUESS THE FRONT FENDER ISN'T FRONT ENOUGH, OR BREAKING THE FRAME IN THE FRONT ISN'T ENOUGH. THE SEATS BROKE BACK AND MY SEATBELT DIDN'T KEEP ME IN MY SEAT, I ENDED UP IN THE BACK. I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY BROKEN WRIST,L AND MY SHOULDER. THE HOOD IS SMASHED AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD, THE FRONT BUMPER TORE OFF.*AK

THE CONSUMER WAS T-BONED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE MIDDLE, REAR SIDE AT 20 MILES PER HOUR. THE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. *JB

I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON JUNE 24, 2004 IN WHICH MY 2004 DODGE DURANGO WAS TOTALLED. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BROADSIDE - I HIT THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THEIR VEHICLE STRAIGHT ON. THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE, THE FRONT DOORS WERE NOT ABLE TO BE OPENED, THE ENGINE WAS DAMAGED AND THE FRONT AXEL SNAPPED ON IMPACT. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. WE CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY DID AN "INVESTIGATION" AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS NOT SEVERE ENOUGH AND THE RATE OF DECELERATION WAS NOT HIGH ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY. THEY SENT US A PAMPHLET WITH AIRBAG INFORMATION IN IT AND IN THE BOOKLET IT STATES THAT THE AIRBAG IS SET TO DEPLOY IN ACCIDENTS SIMILAR TO MINE AT 28 MPH. WE HAAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET A STRAIGHT ANWER FROM THEM AS TO WHY IN OUR CASE THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I WENT FROM 60 MPH TO 0 IN ABOUT 20 FEET.*AK
