ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH FRONT BENCH SEATS ONLY, IF FLUID IS SPILLED FROM THE FLOOR MOUNTED CUP HOLDER, AN UNUSED CONSOLE POWER OUTLET CONNECTOR LOCATED UNDER THE SEAT MAY BECOME CONTAMINATED.
Fix: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE CONSOLE WIRING CONNECTOR FOR CORROSION, CLEAN AS REQUIRED, AND INSTALL A CAP TO PREVENT ADDITIONAL FLUID FROM CONTAMINATING THE CONNECTOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 30, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLER CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE HEADLAMP FLICKERED ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CENTRAL TIMER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V322000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
WIFE STARTED THE TRUCK THIS MORNING AND HAD THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING AND TURNED ON THE HEADLIGHTS BEFORE BACKING UP. THE HEADLIGHTS STARTED FLASHING AND INTERIOR LIGHTS ALONG WITH THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH WERE ALL FLASHING AND GOING CRAZY. I HAD MY WIFE TURN OFF THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND RETURNED TO NORMAL. RESEARCH ON ALL THE FORUMS SAYS ITS THE "CTM" CENTRAL TIMER MODULE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST $520. JUST FOR THE PART AND THAT DIDN'T INCLUDE ANY LABOR. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND SOME MODELS DO HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS VERY THING BUT MY VIN WAS EXCLUDED.
SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE NEW IT HAS HAD MAJOR ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE SAD PART, NOBODY AT DODGE CARED. IT WOULD SHIFT INTO 4WD LOW AT DANGEROUS SPEEDS. AFTER TAKING TO SEVERAL DODGE DEALERS NONE COULD OR WOULD FIX IT. DODGE THEMSELVES BASICALLY LAUGHED AT RIPPING OFF YET ANOTHER CUSTOMER. NHTSB HAS TOTALLY IGNORED THE THOUSANDS OF CONSUMERS WITH ISSUES ON THESE VEHICLES. OURS IS ANOTHER THAT HAVE THE PULSATING LIGHTS PROBLEM THAT APPARENTLY NHTSA AND DODGE FEEL IT ISN'T AN ISSUE TO HAVE YOUR LIGHTS TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT 70 MPH. APPARENTLY IN THE AUTOMOTIVE/GOVT. RELATIONSHIP AS LONG AS THE VEHICLE HASN'T KILLED ALL OF US YET EVERYTHING IS OKAY. AT LEAST THE DODGE DEALERS ARE DOING WELL. THEY'VE RAKED IN MORE CASH BY DENYING THE ISSUE AND THROWING EXPENSIVE PARTS AT THESE LEMONS. MY QUESTION IS THIS: IF THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD A RECALL ON :"SPECIFIC" VIN'S YET THOUSANDS OF OTHERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE HOW DOES THE NHTSA JUSTIFY LEAVING THOSE CONSUMERS WITHOUT HELP OR PROTECTION?
THE PROBLEM ORIGINALLY STARTED ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. WHEN I SWITCHED ON THE REAR FAN (HEAT OR AC DID NOT MATTER), THE ENTIRE CENTER CONSOLE (RADIO, BLOWER SWITCHES, AND ELECTRONIC 4WD SWITCH) WOULD GO COMPLETELY DEAD, AND THE "SERVICE 4WD" LIGHT WOULD COME ON. THEN THIS STARTED HAPPENING WHEN I TURNED ON THE FRONT BLOWER OR THE REAR BLOWER. THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING WITH BOTH BLOWERS OFF AND THE HEADLIGHTS ON HIGH. NOW IT DOES IT SPONTANEOUSLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON WITH ALL EXTRA ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (THE HEADLIGHTS, RADIO, AND BLOWERS) ALL OFF. I'M THINKING THERE IS A SHORT SOMEWHERE, BUT CANNOT IDENTIFY IT. SO FAR, I HAVE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, THE TCCM, AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH NO APPARENT IMPROVEMENT. I'VE ALSO HAD THE DASH APART AND CHECKED EVERY ELECTRICAL WIRE I COULD GET TO FOR OBVIOUS SHORTS. NO LUCK. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I TALKED TO THE MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER, AND HE SAID HE THINKS IT'S THE TIPM (MAIN FUSE BOX) IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HE SAID HE SEES THEM SHORT OUT "ALL THE TIME, SOME OF THEM SO BAD THEY ACTUALLY CATCH FIRE!" (DIRECT QUOTE FROM HIM.) I AM NOW TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY DURANGO, BUT I CANNOT AFFORD THE HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS, OF DOLLARS IT'S GOING TO COST TO FIX THE TIPM, IF THAT'S WHAT IT REALLY IS. BUT I DO NOT WANT DRIVE IT WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF A VEHICLE FIRE. I'VE DONE ALL KINDS OF INTERNET RESEARCH ON THIS, AND IT SEEMS LIKE A REALLY COMMON PROBLEM IN THE DURANGOS. ALSO, MY FRIEND WHO WORKS AT A SALVAGE YARD SAYS THESE FUSE BOXES ARE ONE OF THEIR MOST SOUGHT AFTER PARTS. SURELY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT IS THIS COMMON AND OF SUCH A CATASTROPHIC MAGNITUDE SHOULD BE A RECALL!

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CENTRAL TIMER MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
MANY TIMES, WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED TO START THE VEHICLE, IT HAS SLIPPED OUT OF PARK, SO IT WILL NOT START UNLESS THE DRIVER IS SUCCESSFUL IN PUTTING IT INTO PARK. WHEN THE WEATHER IS WARM IT IS ESPECIALLY LIABLE TO THIS PROBLEM. USUALLY IN THE WINTER OR IN COOL WEATHER IT DOES NOT SLIP OUT OF PARK. I HAVE NOT FOUND ANYONE WHO CAN FIND OUT HOW TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 DURANGO THAT HAS BEEN SHOWING SOME VERY UNUSUAL ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS WILL SOMETIMES FLICKER AT NIGHT. THE DOOR CHIME SOUNDS LIKE THE SPEAKER HAS A SHORT IN IT. I NOTICED THAT MY GARAGE DOOR OPENER NO LONGER WORKS AND SOMETIMES THE COMPASS AND TEMP GAUGE IN THE OVERHEAD FREEZES. THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT WENT OUT AND REFUSES TO WORK WITH A NEW BULB. I TESTED THE CIRCUIT AND IT IS DEAD. I LOOKED INTO THE ISSUE AND FOUND OUT THAT IT HAS A CENTRAL TIME MODULE THAT CONTROLS MANY OF THE ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS OF THE TRUCK. MINE HAS ALL THE CLASSIC SYMPTOMS OF A BAD ONE. I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT A FEW HUNDRED DURANGO'S AND DAKOTA'S WERE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM, HOWEVER MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE THREADS ON THE INTERNET OF CUSTOMERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME THING AND DODGE IS NOT REPLACING THEM. IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE HEADLIGHTS CAN STOP WORKING AT NIGHT AS YOU DRIVE. I CONTACTED DODGE AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WILL REVIEW THIS PROBLEM AND SEND ME AN E-MAIL WITH THEIR DECISION IN A FEW DAY'S . THIS NEVER HAPPENED. I HAVE BEEN LOYAL TO DODGE FOR MANY YEARS OWNING 2 DAKOTA'S, 1 RAM TRUCK AND MY DURANGO R/T. I AM NOT GOING TO BUY ANY DODGE PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE AS I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO TRUST THAT THE COMPANY THAT MADE MY VEHICLE WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES TO FIX A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. MY HEADLIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING ACCOMPANIED BY A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING PANEL. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ALSO DO NOT WORK UNLESS PUT ON HIGH, AND THE GAS LIGHT SOUND BEEPS EVERY 20-30 SECONDS CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL GAS IS PUT IN. THE BEEPING SOUND FOR THE GAS LIGHT WILL STOP ONCE REFILLED BUT LIGHTS CONTINUE TO BLINK, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY OTHER PERSON WITH A 2003 DODGE DURANGO IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM BUT DODGE REFUSES TO RECALL THE PART, SAYING IT WAS FIXED, WHICH IS THE CTM MODULE CAUSING THIS PROBLEM, WHEN TAKEN INTO A DEALERSHIP IT IS THE CTM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND IS ABSURD THAT MORE VEHICLES HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM WHEN EVERY SINGLE ONE IS EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. *TR

BLOWER FAN RESISTOR PIGTAIL MELTED TWICE NOW. I HAVE 4 KIDS AND AM SCARED MY DODGE DURANGO IS GOING TO CATCH FIRE BECAUSE OF THIS HAPPENING. IT'S AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WE HAVE TRIED FIXING AND THE SAME THING KEEPS HAPPENING.

AIR CONDITIONING STOPPED WORKING UNDER NORMAL USE. AFTER INSPECTING THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, AND CONNECTOR PLUG I FOUND THE INSIDE TO BE MELTED LIKELY DUE TO TOO MUCH VOLTAGE. I HAD TO CUT THE WIRES AS THE CONNECTOR WAS FUSED TO THE RESISTOR. NOT ABLE TO FIND THIS CONNECTOR THROUGH LOCAL JUNK/SALVAGE YARDS, BECAUSE THIS APPARENTLY IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL DURANGO. ONLY ABLE TO GET AFTER MARKET PART FOR THIS CONNECTOR, AND WILL HAVE TO RE-WIRE IT TO THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ALL OF THE GAUGES WERE PROVIDING ERRONEOUS READINGS. THE HEAD LIGHTS HAD ALSO FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CENTRAL TIMING MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V322000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:SWITCH). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,230.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE THAT OCCURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 173,000.

BLOWER MOTOR COMPLETELY STOPS WORKING DUE TO BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR AND ATTACHED WIRING PIGTAIL COMPLETELY BURNING OUT. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED EVERY 12 -18 MONTHS OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. I HAVE 2003 DODGE DURANGO, THE CENTRAL TIMER MODULE WAS REPLACED IN JANUARY 2010. THE HEADLAMPS, INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER ON & OFF. THE LEFT HEADLAMP WENT TO LOW BEAM. DRIVING AT THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WOULD GO LOW BEAM OR COMPLETELY TURN OFF FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS. I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY AND STAYED ON THE ACCESS ROAD UNTIL I REACHED HOME. *TR
HEADLIGHT, HORN, INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILURE ON MY '03 DURANGO. DURANGOS AND DAKOTAS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR A BAD CENTRAL TIMER MODULE. CHRYSLER SAYS MY VEHICLE DOES NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER HAS DONE A OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND THE CTM TO BE FAULTY. I WILL HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE IT REPLACED. WHILE TRYING TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WITHOUT THE USE OF THE HEADLIGHTS, SHE SCRAPED THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE ON A ROADSIDE METAL MARKER. THE SCRAPE WENT THE WHOLE LENGTH OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE HEATER BLOWER RESISTOR ONCE A YEAR FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS IN MY 2003 DODGE DURANGO. THIS TIME THE HEATER WIRING HARNESS PIGTAIL CONNECTION WAS CORRODED AND MELTED AND BURNT, IT WAS MELTED TO THE RESISTOR MODULE. AFTER REPLACING IT NOW THE ABS LIGHT ,THE BRAKE LIGHT ARE ON, THE CLOCK WONT WORK,THE SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT WORK. THIS DURANGO ONLY HAS 31,000 MILES ON IT. THE DODGE DEALER SERVICE DEPT. SAID THEY SELL ALOT OF THESE RESISTORS. IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE THERE ARE FIRES IN THIS RESISTOR OR HEATER WIRING HARNESS. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWO OR THREE TIMES, BUT STILL PERSISTS AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BECOME VERY HOT. THE CONTACT HAS PAID OVER A $100 FOR EACH REPAIR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND IT MUST BE REPAIRED EVERY TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 DODGE DURANGO. THE VEHICLE IS SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNCONTROLLABLE AND DIFFICULT TO STEER OFF ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE IGNITION SWITCH AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
THE CENTRAL TIMER MODULE ON 2003 DODGE DURANGOS IS BAD AND HAS BEEN RECALLED, BUT MY 2003 DODGE DURANGO WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SOMEHOW. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I USED MY REMOTE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS, IT SET OFF THE ALARM. I PUSHED THE UNLOCK BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES AND IT STOPPED THE ALARM. THE VEHICLE STARTED FINE AND THEN WENT HAYWIRE WHEN I HIT ABOUT 15MPH. ALL LIGHTING ON MY 2003 DODGE DURANGO EXCEPT HAZARD AND BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME. THIS INCLUDES ALL INTERIOR LIGHTING, HEADLIGHTS, FOG LIGHTS AND RUNNING LAMPS. NO FUSES BLOWN. DISCUSSION WITH DODGE DEALERSHIP REVEALED THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM AND IS CAUSED BY FAILURE OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH UNIT ON THE DASHBOARD. FURTHER INVESTIGATION ON MESSAGE BOARDS ALSO REVEALED THAT THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM, ALONG WITH THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY WHICH BECOMES HOT AND MELTS. *NM
DURING NORMAL DRIVING WHEN COMING TO STOPS IN MY 2003 DODGE DURANGO SLT, THE VEHICLES ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL FLASH AND THE VEHICLE WILL STALL. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT. SUDDENLY SMOKE STARTED TO APPEAR WHILE WAITING AT STOP LIGHT. CONSUMER PULLED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD, AND HEARD A METALLIC NOISE HIT THE GROUND. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT A BOLT SEPARATED FROM THE ALTERNATOR AND FELL OUT. *AK DEALERSHIP FOUND A LARGE BOLT THAT CAME LOOSE WHICH MAY HAVE ALLOWED WATER TO ENTER THE UPPER BALL JINTS CAUSING CORRSION. THE BOLT ALSO CAUSED THE WATER PUMP, GASKET, SERPENTINE BELT TO CRACK AND THE THERMOSTAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM MANUFACTURER REGARDING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE UPPER BALL JOINTS A MONTH AFTER REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. *TT
I OWN A 2003 DURANGO WITH 20,000 MILES. AFTER DONE SHOPPING WENT TO PARKING LOT AND HIT THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON REMOTE. HORN STARTED HONKING, LIGHTS FLASHING. THOUGHT I MIGHT HAVE HIT PANIC BUTTON BUT DIDN'T THINK SO, SO I HIT ALL THE BUTTONS AGAIN, PUT KEY IN IGNITION AND STARTED CAR BUT HORN STILL HONKED AND LIGHTS KEPT FLASHING INSIDE & OUT. STOPPED AT STORE TO GET BATTERIES FOR REMOTE KEY THINKING THERE WAS SOME COMPUTER PROBLEM AND SIGNEL WASN'T RIGHT. STILL WOULD NOT STOP. CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHEN I LOST THE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS. FOUR WAY FLASHERS KEPT FLASHING. BEFORE I COULD GET TO EXIT HIGHWAY PATROL PULLED ME OVER. SAID THAT WAS THE SECOND SUCH INCIDENT THAT DAY WITH A DURANGO. HE CALLED A TOW TRUCK FOR ME AND WE TOWED IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE CENTRAL TIMER MODUAL. DEALER STATES THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL DURANGO'S WITH THIS PROBLEM. SINCE THE CAR IS STILL IN WARRANTY I DID NOT HAVE TO PAY. *AK

I PURCHASED A NEW DODGE DURANGO ON JUY 11, 2003 AND IT NOW HAS A LITTLE OVER 800 MILES ON IT. I HAD DRIVEN IT WITH NO PROBLEM UNTIL LAST THURSDAY, AUGUST 14. I PARKED IT IN THE GARAGE AND IT NEVER STARTED FOR ME AGAIN. WHEN I TRIED TO START IT ON FRIDAY, THE GAS GAUGE WAS REGISTERING EMPTY ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A HALF OF A TANK OF GAS IN IT. I TRIED TO START IT SAT, SUN AND MON. IT MADE A NOICE BUT WOULD NOT START. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT EARLY MON MORNING. THEY ALSO COULD NOT START IT. MULTIPLE TESTS HAVE BEEN DONE ON THIS CAR FOR THE LAST 5 DAYS AND THE DEALER WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START IT BUT THEY CAN NOT DIAGNOIS OR FIX THE PROBLEM AS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG.
