NHTSA Campaign: 21V516000

Component: VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300 vehicles. During manufacturing, the windshield may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, allowing it to detach in a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 212, "Windshield Mounting."

Risk: A windshield that separates from the vehicle during a crash can increase the risk of injury.

Fix: Dealers will remove and replace the front windshield urethane sealant, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 31, 2021. Owners may contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US LLC's number for this recall is Y47.

Your Dodge Charger's curtain airbags (which run along the roof above the front and rear doors) may rupture due to a manufacturing defect. This could mean the airbags won't deploy properly if you're in a crash. The airbag inflators may need to be replaced by a dealer.

Your car is subject to an airbag recall issued in March, but as of mid-June, no fix is available yet. You've been notified by mail but haven't received any communication about when replacement parts will arrive from the manufacturer. This leaves you driving with a known airbag safety issue, which is concerning if this is your only vehicle. The dealer or manufacturer will need to install replacement airbag components once parts become available.

Your 2021 Dodge Charger has an open recall for the curtain side airbag that Dodge hasn't yet provided a fix for. In April 2024, your car displayed a service airbag warning, and the dealership found a problem with the passenger seat harness airbag—they treated it as a warranty issue but charged you a deductible. The combination of the unresolved recall and this airbag malfunction suggests potential reliability concerns with the airbag system in this model year.

Your passenger-side airbag system has a fault code indicating the frontal airbag squib 2 control circuit is open, and your dashboard displays a check airbag system warning. Since your car was previously in an accident and has a branded title, the airbag system may not have been properly repaired or tested during the rebuilding process. The repair will likely require replacing the airbag control module, wiring harness, or the airbag squib assembly itself to restore proper functionality.

Your headlights keep flickering on and off, especially the low and high beams, even though the bulbs are fine — this suggests a wiring harness that may be overheating. Additionally, your transmission is making aggressive downshifts from 6th gear that cause the car to jolt, and in severe cases prevent acceleration; the dealer attempted a repair that didn't resolve the issue.

Your transmission unexpectedly downshifted and displayed a "Service Transmission" warning message while driving. Later, you noticed smoke coming from the engine and the transmission was overheating. An independent mechanic suggested the head gasket might have failed, which could be causing the transmission to overheat. During a tire change, you noticed the plastic engine cover underneath your car had come loose, with several mounting clips broken. A large round component also detached and fell out. Other Dodge Charger Scat Pack owners report experiencing the same issue, suggesting this may be a recurring problem. The manufacturer should investigate whether the engine cover clips are prone to failure and whether other engine components are at risk of detaching.
