POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles manufactured February 15, 2011, to November 27, 2014, and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured July 16, 2012, to December 22, 2015. The affected vehicles, equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a monostable gear selector, may not adequately warn the driver when driver's door is opened and the vehicle is not in PARK, allowing them to exit the vehicle while the vehicle is still in gear.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software to mitigate the risk of vehicle rollaway, free of charge. The recall began on June 24, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S27. Note: On October 19, 2016 Chrysler identified some previously repaired vehicles did not receive the complete software updates. Chrysler will renotify the affected owners, and dealers will update the software again.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2013 Chrysler 300 AWD, Dodge Charger AWD, and Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 vehicles equipped with ZF all wheel drive ("AWD") 8HP45 transmissions. In the affected vehicles, the transmission output shaft may fracture.

Fix: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the transmissions, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 31, 2014. Customers may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's recall number is N65.

Your car's transmission output shaft may be fractured, which could cause a sudden loss of power while driving and increase crash risk. Additionally, your vehicle may roll away even when the transmission is in park if you don't engage the parking brake before exiting. Warning lights have appeared on your dashboard. This issue requires inspection and repair of the transmission output shaft and potentially the transmission assembly itself.

After stopping at a red light and pressing the accelerator to make a left turn, your vehicle wouldn't respond or move forward. A dealer inspection found that the output shaft in your transmission had failed, requiring replacement of both the transmission and transfer case. This happened at about 124,000 miles, and while there's a related recall for this issue, your vehicle's VIN wasn't included.

Your car's shifter module, which was replaced under a recall in 2016, started automatically shifting into sport mode without warning starting in November 2022. When you took it to the dealership for replacement, they couldn't find a new Mopar shifter module because Chrysler stopped manufacturing them, so they installed a used one instead—which is also shifting into lower gears automatically and unexpectedly. You're concerned this creates a safety hazard for you and others on the road. The dealership may need to contact Chrysler for alternative repair solutions or parts availability options, as aftermarket replacements aren't currently available for this specific module.

When you shift your car from Park to Drive or from Drive to Reverse while parked, you hear clicking and thumping noises coming from the transmission area. This happens consistently in both directions. A mechanic will likely need to inspect the transmission mount, shifter linkage, or internal transmission components to identify the source of the noise.

ALSO SOMETIMES WILL NOT DOWN SHIFT TO FIRST GEAR AFTER COMING TO COMPLETE STOP. WHEN THIS HAPPENS WILL START OFF IN SECOND GEAR WILL NOT SHIFT FROM 3RD TO 4TH AT ALL AND WILL NOT LET YOU SHIFT MANUALLY. HAVE TO PULL OVER PUT IT IN PARK AND TURN CAR OFF. THIS HAS FIXED THE PROBLEM IN THE PAST BUT IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND DODGE REALLY NEEDS TO LOOK INTO MAKING THINGS RIGHT.

THE VEHICLE HAD THE REPAIRS COMPLETED BUT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED AT A LATER DATE, WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE USED CAR DEALER BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000. INVALID VIN.

I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME MY NUMBER 3 PLUG OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED WAS MISFIRING TOOK IT TO CROWN DODGE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS GOING TO COST ME 8,599 TO FIX THIS PROBKEM THAT I ALWAYS HAD. NOW I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME BEFORE LOOKING AT IT WHAT WAS WRONG COME TO FIND OUT I HAVE THE SAME VEHICLE AS EVERY SHERIFF IN OUR TOWN AND HE HAS FIXED EVERYONE OF THEIR VEHICLES WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THIS SOUNDS LIKE A PROBLEM THAT IS GOING ON WITH A LOT OF THESE CHARGERS AND THIS IS JUST WEIRD TO ME IT'S NO COINCIDENCE THAT I HAVE TALKED TO AT LEAST 20 OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR AS MINE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. NOTHING ELSE HAPPENED THEN, BUT ABOUT 15 SECONDS LATER - - EVERYTHING ON THE DASH STARTED FLASHING, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON, THE CAR STARTED TO JERK AND THEN EVERYTHING DIED. HE MANAGED TO COAST INTO OUR DRIVEWAY - LUCKILY WAS HEADED HOME FROM WORK AND ONLY DOING 20MPH. NO WARNING - NO NOTHING. JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN - ENTIRE SYSTEM FAILURE. NO POWER STEERING OR ANYTHING. KIND OF A ELECTRICAL SMELL IN THE CAR. AT FIRST, WE THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THE BATTERY WAS LOOSE OR SOMETHING OR BAD GROUND. CHECKED THAT. TRIED JUMPING - TERMINALS STARTED SMOKING. DID A SEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT OUR VIN IS SHOWING AN UNREPAIRED P60 RECALL. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING - NOW BEING TOLD THAT IT MAY BE THE P60 RECALL, BUT WE CAN'T KNOW UNTIL WE GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP - WHO - COINCIDENTALLY HAS NO APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE FOR A WEEK, DOES NOT PROVIDE LOANER CARS (OR FREE RENTAL), AND MAY OR MAY NOT COVER THE TOWING. I THEN CONTACTED DODGE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD BE THE RECALL, BUT THEY DO NOT PROVIDE RENTALS OR LOANERS. WHAT? SO - - THEY KNOW THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE IN 1/2 A MILLION VEHICLES, BUT THEY ACCEPT NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT OTHER THAN TO SWITCH THE PART OUT? VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ON DODGE'S PART AND I WILL BE PURSUING THIS FURTHER, ONCE WE HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THE PART NUMBER ON THE ALTERNATOR IS THE CORRECT PART NUMBER FOR THE RECALL. ON MY WAY HOME FROM RENO, NV I WAS GETTING ONTO THE I-80 FREEWAY WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SUDDENLY AND THE CAR MANUALLY SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL ( IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY) THE CAR BEGAN TO LOOSE POWER AND THEN THERE WAS A LOUD BANG IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. LUCKILY, I CLOSE TO AN EXIT AND WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF. THE CAR RMPS WERE VERY NIGHT THOUGH THE CAR WAS STALLED. THE DEALER LATER DIAGNOSED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. SO FAR I'VE HAD 6 RECALLS WITH THIS CAR AND 3 REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY.

I TRIED TO PULL BACK OFF TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT MY CAR WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED, TRAFFICS WAS APPROACHING AND THERE IS WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TRYING PUSHING DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL TO HURRY AND MOVE BEFORE THE COMING TRAFFICK MADE IT TO ME, IT WAS AN 18 WHEELER. I COULD HAVE BEEN DEAD TODAY DUE TO THIS ISSUE AND I'M NOT WONDERING WHY THERE IS NOTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 32367806 AND INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD FOLLOW-UP WITH THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS CURRENTLY NO REPAIR SOLUTION; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER PRESENTED THE OPTION OF A BUY BACK. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME TO DETERMINE RECOURSE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS WERE UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000.

I HAVE SINCE COME TO DISCOVER THAT THE VEHICLE HAS 5 ACTIVE SAFETY RECALLS, NONE OF WHICH WERE ADDRESSED OR FIXED PRIOR TO THE DEALERSHIP SELLING ME THE CAR. SEVERAL OF THE RECALLS HAVE BEEN IN PLACE FOR YEARS, BUT I WAS NEVER INFORMED THAT I WAS BEING SOLD A VEHICLE KNOWN TO BE UNSAFE. I AM NOW PAYING ON A FINANCED VEHICLE THAT CANNOT BE DRIVEN OUT OF TOWN, DUE TO KNOWN DEFECTS THAT WERE IN PLACE AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.

FIRST TIME THEY HAD FOR 2 DAYS, REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION AND SAID THEY FIXED IT. I TOOK IT HOME OVER THE WEEKEND AND BOTH ISSUES STILL HAPPENED. TOOK CAR BACK IN ON MONDAY AND THIS TIME THEY HAD IT FOR 4 DAYS AND GAVE ME A RENTAL CAR. TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM (VALVE BODY SEPARATE PLATE PART) AND IS WORKING ON A FIX. THE PART/FIX WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AVAILABLE AT END OF MAY/EARLY JUNE, BUT SINCE IT'S ALREADY 6/5, OBVIOUSLY THAT DATE WAS NOT AN ACCURATE TIME FRAME. (STAR CASE NO.
