AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) expanded the affected population to include 73,712 2005-2009 RAM 2500 trucks produced at the St. Louis North Assembly Plant. With this change, Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 RAM 1500, 2005-2009 RAM 2500, 2006-2009 RAM 3500, 2007-2010 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis, 2008-2010 RAM 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis, 2004-2009 Dodge Durango, 2007-2009 Chrysler Aspen, 2007-2012 Jeep Wrangler, 2008-2012 Dodge Challenger, 2005-2008 Dodge Magnum, 2005-2012 Chrysler 300, 2006-2012 Dodge Charger, 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota, and 2006-2009 Mitsubishi Raider vehicles originally sold, or ever registered, in AL, CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MS, SC, TX, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands (Saipan), and the U.S. Virgin Islands, or "Zone A." Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the recall repair is complete. Chrysler will notify the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM owners. Mitsubishi owners will be notified by their company. Dealers will replace the passenger frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S43. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-7700.

AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2005-2009 Dodge Ram 2500, 2004-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 and Durango, 2006-2009 Dodge Ram 3500, 2008-2010 Dodge Ram 4500 and 5500, 2007-2008 Chrysler Aspen, 2005-2010 Chrysler 300, 300C, 300S, and SRT8, 2006-2010 Dodge Charger, 2005-2008 Magnum, 2005-2011 Dodge Dakota, and 2006-2009 Mitsubishi Raider vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the recall repair is complete. Chrysler will notify the affected Chrysler and Dodge owners and Mitsubishi will notify the affected Raider owners. Dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began for Chrylser on June 8, 2015. The recall for Mitsubishi started on June 24, 2015. Chrysler and Dodge owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Mitsubishi owners may call 1-888-648-7820. Chrysler's number for this recall is R25. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V817 in its entirety. Vehicles that have had their driver side frontal air bag replaced previously need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well.

After having an airbag recall procedure performed at your dealership, you discovered that the passenger-side airbag was only fastened with 2 screws instead of the 4 it was designed to use — the extra screw was loose in the blower. You believe the service technician failed to properly complete the recall work, which could affect the airbag's ability to deploy safely in a crash. The dealership and manufacturer refused to reinspect or correct the work at no charge, claiming you'd need to pay for an independent inspection elsewhere. Proper repair would involve removing and reinstalling the passenger airbag with all four mounting screws correctly fastened.

Your driver's side airbag deployed unexpectedly while you were slowly backing out of a parking spot at very low speed, with no collision involved. Your left hand was slightly injured and your front passenger experienced ringing in their ears from the airbag deployment. If this had happened at highway speeds, it could have caused a serious accident. The airbag had been replaced as part of a Takata recall in 2017/2018, but the vehicle's diagnostic data couldn't be fully retrieved to determine why it deployed.

I swerved to avoid animal in the roadway. Over corrected my skid and went into the ditch at highway speed. The airbag never deployed and I had a fracture to my lumbar 1. Insurance denied my claim and have the vehicle listed as a 2007 charger. They should have at least covered part of this incident as there was full coverage through progressive insurance at the time.

THE FIRST 2 CALLS WERE MADE SOMETIME LATE SUMMER / EARLY FALL 2016, A THIRD CALL WAS MADE ON DEC 2, 2016, AND A 4TH CALL WAS MADE ON FEB 17, 2017. DURING THIS LAST PHONE CONVERSATION (FEB 17) THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME "WE HAVE NO IDEA WHEN WE ARE GETTING THE PARTS". IN THE "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL" NOTICE I RECEIVED IT STATES "IF YOUR DEALER FAILS OR IS UNABLE TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT WITHOUT CHARGE AND WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, YOU MAY SUBMIT A WRITTEN COMPLAINT TO THE ADMINISTRATOR, NHTSA...." I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE EXTENSIVE TAKATA AIRBAG RECALL. BUT IS THE DELAY I AM EXPERIENCING AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AT AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL. WHILE TRAVELING ON US 33 WEST BOUND IN MARYSVILLE OHIO, JUST IN FRONT OF EXIT HONDA PARKWAY AROUND 6 AM, TRAFFIC CAME TO A STOP, AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN, ESTIMATING AROUND 50 MPH (70 SPEED LIMIT), THE CAR BEHIND ME CRASHED INTO THE THE REAR OF MY CAR, AFTER COLLISION I RESPONDED BY TRYING TO STEER MY CAR TO LEFT, BUT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. ALL THREE CARS INVOLVED IN THE CRASH WERE TOTALED. THE REAR IMPACT SHATTERED THE REAR WINDOW AND SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OCCURRED TO THE REAR OF MY CAR AND ALSO THE FRONT FROM THE FORWARD COLLISION. THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, I HIT MY HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL, AND SUFFERED FROM A DIAGNOSED CONCUSSION AS WELL AS A SEVERE STRAIN TO MY NECK. ONE YEAR AGO, I HAD TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO A DODGE DEALER TO GET THE AIRBAG REPLACED DUE TO A RECALL. CONSIDERING THIS, I REACHED OUT TO DODGE AND THEY ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER TO THE INCIDENT. IT HAS NOW BEEN FOUR WEEKS, SINCE I HAVE CONTRACTED THEM, AND DODGE IS YET TO RESPOND TO MY ISSUE. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL TIMES EACH WEEK, FOLLOWING UP ON THE CASE BUT HAS NOT CONTACTED ME OUR PROVIDED ME WITH ANY INFORMATION. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SITTING IDLE IN TRAFFIC, A BUS CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE, CAUSING HIM TO CRASH INTO A PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS AND SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,762.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 DODGE CHARGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAD BEEN ILLUMINATED FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER HAVING THE REPAIRS DONE, THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY THREE MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE AIRBAG CLOCK SPRING WOULD NEED REPLACING AGAIN, AS WELL AS THE ABS MODULE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20,300.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 06 DODGE CHARGER R/T. VIN: [XXX]. MANUFACTURED 3/06. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH ADVANCED AIR BAGS, AND AN OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM THAT WILL DISABLE THE AIR BAGS IF IT DETECTS A SMALL CHILD IN THE FRONT SEAT. HOWEVER, ON MY CAR, AND ON THE OTHER (20+) CARS ON THE DEALERS LOT, THE INDICATOR THAT TELLS YOU WHEN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS DISABLED IS NOT PRESENT. THERE IS SIMPLY A PLASTIC PLACE-HOLDER WHERE THE INDICATOR LIGHT SHOULD BE. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH SEVERAL OTHER CHARGER AND 300C OWNERS, AND VIRTUALLY ALL MODELS PRODUCED AFTER JAN 06 DO NOT HAVE THIS LIGHT. HERE IS A MEMO THAT MY DEALER FOUND FROM CHRYSLER CONCERNING THIS: NOTE FOR ALL MARKETS; AS OF 12/23/2005, FOR CARS WITHOUT SIDE AIRBAGS, AND AS OF 01/05/2006 FOR CARS WITH SIDE AIRBAGS, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLE[PAD] LAMP IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONAL. IT IS STILL PRESENT, BUT WILL NOT ILLUMINATE AT ANY TIME. ACCORDING TO NHTSA LAW: HTTP://WWW.NHTSA.DOT.GOV/NCAP/AIRBAG...FRONTABS.HTM#5 VEHICLES WITH ADVANCED FRONTAL AIR BAGS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO SUPPRESS THE AIR BAGS (NOT ALLOW THEM TO DEPLOY) ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO HAVE AN INDICATOR LIGHT WITH THE PHRASE "PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF" OR "PASS AIR BAG OFF". WHEN ILLUMINATED, THE PURPOSE OF THIS INDICATOR LIGHT IS TO INFORM YOU THAT THE PASSENGER FRONTAL AIR BAG HAS BEEN AUTOMATICALLY TURNED OFF (SUPPRESSED) BY THE ADVANCED FRONTAL AIR BAG SYSTEM AND THEREFORE WILL NOT DEPLOY. THIS CAN HAPPEN IF SENSORS DETECT A SMALL-STATURED PASSENGER SUCH AS AN INFANT OR TODDLER IN THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEATING POSITION. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE TO ME. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE IN A LEFT HAND CURVE AT 23 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL. THE TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE TO WARN THE CONTACT OF LOW TIRE PRESSURE. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO GO OFF OF THE ROAD INTO A TRENCH, BOUNCING BETWEEN EITHER SIDES OF THE TRENCH. THE VEHICLE HIT SIX TREES AND ENDED UP PINNED AGAINST THE MOUNTAIN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. MOST OF THE DAMAGE OCCURRED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELTS WERE WORN. THE INDICATOR LIGHT THAT STATES THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG WAS DEACTIVATED WAS ILLUMINATED. THE OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED INJURIES. THERE WAS A POLICE REPORT TAKEN AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, WHERE REPAIRS WERE STARTED. THAT DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM ALL NECESSARY REPAIRS; THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN RETURNED TO THE CONTACT.
