Owner Complaints (13)
Your upper control arm failed suddenly while driving on the highway at 68,000 miles, with no warning signs. The failure caused your tire to collapse into the suspension, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage and requiring a tow. You suspect the ball joints were defective, and you've found similar reports online of other vehicles experiencing the same problem. The fix will likely involve replacing the upper control arm assembly and inspecting the ball joints for defects.

I have the L87 6.2 liter V8 engine from General Motors. I had sudden engine failure. Apparently the rods and bearings are bad. It is the same problem as the recall issued for 2021-2024 vehicles, exept for my truck is a year 2020. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When the truck was less than 2years and less than 20,000 miles old it developed a clunking noise in the rear suspension. Sounds like 2 heavy pieces of metal softly being knocked together. The dealership inspected it and replaced both rear shocks. The noise was still there. The dealership replaced the left leaf spring assembly. This temporarily eliminated the noise. The noise came back at just under 3 years and 30,000 miles. The dealership inspected, but couldn't find the source of the problem. The noise has only worsened since then, and at a recent visit to the dealership, they could clearly hear the problem. I was told that it is the result of worn cushions between the leaf springs. I'm concerned that the truck may be unsafe. I've been contacted by GM, and at this time they are looking into how to fix it, and who should be responsible for the repair. I can't imagine that mine is the only 2020 Silverado with this problem, and think there must be other reports of a similar nature.
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard an abnormal sound emanating from the rear end suspension. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that fuel leak from the fuel delivery system resulted corrosion of the left side leaf spring grummet. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.
I was driving the vehicle but it sounded like it was popping when I would turn and when I shifted gears. As a result, my brakes were not working and I almost hit another vehicle. I took it to the dealership where they claimed they fixed the issue. When I picked it up this past Saturday, within a block of the dealership, the truck began shaking and a rattling noise could be heard. I had to take the truck back to the dealership. The truck is at the dealership where it is supposed to be inspected again and hopefully properly fixed.
Driving 20 mph on paved downtown street when cross arm failed causing wheel to twist 90 degrees causing damage to brakes, drivetrain, abs, and steering. No warning just pop and trying to maintain my lane before able to turn into parking lot. Towed to dealer and diagnosed with control arm failure. They are aware of this issue and now replace control arms stronger rough country control arms and level the truck differently. DeAler is claiming GMC will not cover and they are calling it a suspension issue and out of warranty two months. Truck has 26000 miles on it. Lucky event happened at 20 mph and I was able to maintain control of vehicle
Today while driving , the upper ball joint separated from the control arm, causing the truck to pull hard to the right. I was able to keep from wrecking the truck. While doing research it seems that this is a common occurrence with the Silverado Trail Boss and the Sierra AT4. I read a safety recall report on these vehicles, 21V-718, after reading this, it's exactly what happened with my truck. Ball joints is rusting and corroded. Vehicle is able to be inspected upon request. If I had been on the freeway traveling, it would have caused a severe single or multiple car accident as I lost control to steer. No symptoms leading up to the situation.
UPPER CONTROL ARM FAILURE TWICE , 1ST TIME IT HAPPEN WAS FEB. 2023 THEN LAST THURSDAY 09/21/23 HAPPEN AGAIN IF GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPPED WOULD OF LOST CONTROL , 1ST TIME WAS DOING 35MPH THEN 2ND WAS DOING ABOUT 10MPH NO WARNING JUST SNAPPED THE BALL JOINT
The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds there was a loud noise present coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who discovered that the front driver’s side axle was fractured. The front driver’s side axle was replaced but the contact stated that a slight noise was still present coming from the front end while driving. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The contact also indicated that while his wife was driving, the odor of fuel was present inside the vehicle. Upon inspection, his wife discovered fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the plastic fuel line had cracked causing fuel to leak from the vehicle. The plastic fuel line was replaced, and the failure was fixed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 25,000.
Both front upper control arms are corroded.Vehicle is 2 years old and has 10375 miles.Dealer stated there is no outstanding recall or a TSB associated with this issue. This is a Trail Boss model with a lift kit from the GM.There is another recall that was issued for 19-21 models with lift kits with the same issue but apparently this model is not matching that yet the problem is very obvious. Please also note that the vehicle was also rustproofed immediately following the purchase.
At 11,000 miles my car began to wobble dangerously. I took it to the dealership and they informed me that two Pins were missing from the alignment cams. They blamed Goodyear for not doing a good alignment at 3,000 miles. Goodyear says they see a lot of these issues in their shop and believes GM needs to recall and fix this issue on all of its models. The repair cost me $459.69. GM said this was not covered under warranty, since someone else did the alignment. This doesn't see fair and I think the government needs to look into this.
MY TRUCK HAS ALREADY HAD A SHIMMY FEEL IN THE TRANSMISSION AROUND 60 MPH IT SHOOK AND WOULD SLIP GEARS. I JUST HAD IT GET WORSE THIS WEEK. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE FRONT END IS NOT SHAKING REALLY BAD FROM 60-75 MPH ON NEWLY PAVED ROADS. THE TRUCK USED TO DRIVE LIKE A DREAM NOW ITS DRIVING SO ROUGH AND THERE IS SOMETHING GOING ON!
