Rotted frame after 9 years old truck
I bought this truck new and the frame is rotted. I have 93000 miles and it is garaged year round. I also purchased a rust preventive electronic device with the vehicle. I have noticed wax coating that has come off in the past and sprayed with fluid film. I just found a hole yesterday and looked further and believe after doing some research that this is a constant problem with the Silverado and GM has not been held accountable for inferior frame rails. My truck body is in excellent shape for the year. I understand I live in a state that teats their roads unnescessarily, but this is absolutely absurd. Toyota had the same issue and took care of their customers Gm should do the same.Thank you
Rear frame by the gas tank. The truck could break while hauling a load putting myself and any other motorists in danger. Widricks auto inspected the vehicle truck failed inspection due to multiple holes in the frame. No symptoms seemed present. I bought the vehicle on 3/10/20
Rotten frame. Trucks body and other components are in very good to fair condition. Found out after I bought it GMC is having major issues with frame failure and have not yet remedied the issue. I think they should be required to fix these frames or buy back the vehicles at a fair price to both parties. This is a major safety issue especially if either the owner is not aware or does not have the means to simply eat the cost of a truck that cost anywhere form 15,000 to the mid 20,000s. It is not right to the consumer to sell vehicles that can't structurally make it past 100,000 mile mark. Also I would like to report that dealers (at least the one I bought it off of) are not notifying customers of these issues and also in my case undercoating over the rotten frame to pass a basic consumers inspection. Not good for road safety and not good for the consumer.
2012 Chevy Silverado rotted frame. The contact stated that the sway bar was so rusted that it broke in half and was replaced. The front struts were also super rusted. The contact does not feel comfortable driving the vehicle until the issues are addressed.
Had an inspection done and was told that the frame is partially rusted through. We took it to our dealership to be fixed and was told there was nothing they could do because Chevy does not want the liability of fixing rusted frames for its 2010-2013 models. I also found this to be true with local body shops in my area so basically our 11,000.00 vehicle is junk. After my research, this seems to be a common problem with Chevy and should be investigated. They should be ashamed of their business tactics by putting people's lives in jeopardy
truck frame on both sides of vehicle is rusting through, requiring structural repair. Truck has been carefully maintained and the body is generally rust free. I am the original owner and am nowhere near salt water. Truck has been garage-kept since purchase. If left undetected, structural collapse could have caused injury or death. Damage was confirmed by tire shop[Discount Tire in Gaylord,MI.] on 9/7/23. No prior indication of excessive rust.
Cracks in dash around passenger side airbag. Concern is that if airbag deploys that the dash components around the airbag will become dangerous projectiles.

DASH BOARD CRACKS HAVE OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 75K MILES AT THE CORNER OF PASSENGER AIRBAG AND OVER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THESE ARE FAIRLY COMMON FOR A MULTI-YEAR GROUP OF GM VEHICLES AND WAS INVOLVED IN A NOW DISMISSED CLASS ACTION SUIT. IT MAY/MAY NOT EVENTUALLY AFFECT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, AND MAY/MAY NOT AFFECT PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. IT MAY/MAY NOT RESULT IN FURTHER INJURY IF DASH COMES APART IN ACCIDENT. COST TO REPLACE AT LOCAL DEALER IS APPROXIMATELY $800 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. NOT COVERED BY ORIGINAL MANUFACTURER WARRANTY DUE TO MILEAGE OR COMPREHENSIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY CURRENTLY IN FORCE. PLANNING TO REPLACE BUT NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. GM SHOULD HAVE RECALLED OR OFFER TO AT LEAST SPLIT COSTS.
4.3L V6 WT 2012 CHEVY 1500 4WD VEHICLE DRIVES FINE, GOOD TEMPERATURES AND THEN WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE SHOWS A WARNING MESSAGE THAT THE ENGINE IS TOO HOT AND THAT THE A/C WAS FORCED OFF BY THE TRUCKS COMPUTER SYSTEM AND SENDS THE TEMP GAUGE TO 160 AND WILL NOT MOVE. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER INSTALLED THERMOSTAT THAT IF NOT DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY SEND THE COOLING FANS AND RADIATOR FAN(S)(AS MINE HAS A OEM FROM THE DEALER AUXILLARY TRANSMISSION COOLER AT FULL SPEEDS. THE RISK OF THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK AND NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO AS IT CAN CAUSE THE FANS AND COOLANT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLES AND ALSO NOT LET AN ACCURATE READOUT OF ENGINE TEMPS TO LET THEM KNOW OF ACTUAL ISSUES PRESENT. CODE IS CODE P01028 THAT GETS STORED BUT THE ISSUE IS IN THE THERMOSTATS THAT THE THRESHOLD FOR AN ENGINE THAT DOESN'T REACH IT'S CUTOFF VALUE SHUTS IT DOWN.
DASHBOARD CRACKED AT PASSENGER AIRBAG AREA WHEN TRUCK HAD LESS THAN 25,000. CHEVROLET REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY. AT ABOUT 100,000 THE DASHBOARD CRACKED IN THE SAME EXACT LOCATION. CONCERNED THAT BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION OF THE CRACK IT MAY EFFECT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. MY DASH BOARD IS CRACKED IN SERVAL PLACES !!
MY DASH STARTED A SMALL CRACK BY THE PASSENGER AIRBAG. IT'S A VERY COMMON ISSUE BETWEEN 07-13 GM TRUCKS AND SUVS. THEY SEEM TO RANDOMLY CRACK I HAD MINE CRACK OVERNIGHT. IT MAKES A HORRIBLE VIBRATION SOUND WHILE DRIVING IT'S KIND OFF ANNOYING TO DRIVE NOW.
NO PART AVAILABLE FOR THE CLIMATE CONTROL, WITH A MAIL IN PROCEDURE AND A 30 DAY TURN AROUND TIME. THIS CREATES A VISIBILITY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING. INABILITY TO CONTROL THE HEAT DURING COLDER CLIMATE WHILE CREATING FOGGY WINDOWS AND TRYING TO TRAVEL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR THE DRIVER AS WELL AS THE PUBLIC! I CANNOT TAKE THE PART OUT FOR A MONTH BECAUSE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE WEATHER WILL BE LIKE 10 MINUTES FROM NOW AND IF I DID WOULD BE WITHOUT FOR 30 DAYS AND NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO CLEAR A FOGGY WINDSHIELD!

CRACKED DASH
THERE HAS BEEN VARIOUS OCCASIONS WHERE WE ARE DRIVING AND THE TRUCK STOPS WITH NO WARNING OR REASON, THE FIRST TIME WAS ON I-95 HIGHWAY IN PHILADELPHIA MID TRAFFIC THE TRUCK TURNED OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART FOR ABOUT 5MINUTES WE WEEE STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD BLOCKING TRAFFIC, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE SECOND TIME WAS JUST THIS WEEK ON THE WAY TO TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS TO GET THE COMPUTER READ IT TURNED OFF YET AGAIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. BOTH MECHANICS SAID NOTHING CAN UP ON THE SCANNER WHEN CONNECTED AND THERE WERE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS TURNED ON.
I HAVE A CRACK IN MY DASHBOARD JUST ABOVE THE AIRBAG. THIS IS NOT DUE TO HEAT OR SUN THIS HAPPENED DURING THE WINTER IN ALASKA

DASH STARTED WITH 2 INITIAL CRACKS ONE AT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG AND THE OTHER AT THE BASE OF THE DRIVER SIDE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLOSER TO THE WINDOW. AS TIME WENT ON THE CRACK OF THE DRIVER SIDE PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE TO THE POINT NOW IT HAS TRAVELED TO END OF THE PANEL ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND ANOTHER CRACK HAS DEVELOPED NOW AT THE OTHER END OF THE AIR BAG.

I HEARD A VIBRATION NOISE COMING FROM MY DASHBOARD FOR OF MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS CRACKING FROM THE FORWARD END RUNNING AFT TOWARD THE STEERING WHEEL. I RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND LEARNED THIS MAY BE A SAFETY CONCERN IF THE AIR BAG IS INFLATED. I HEARD THE VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I STOPPED I NOTICED THE CRACKING PROBLEM.

DASH CRACKED BEHIND INSTRUMENT PANEL AT APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES. CONCERNED ABOUT SHRAPNEL SHOULD AIR BAGS DEPLOY....THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FROM 2007-2013.
DASHBOARD HAS DEVELOPED CRACKS IN CERTAIN AREAS, INCLUDING AROUND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, AND THE MIDDLE SECTION IS FLIMSY AND ABLE TO BE PULLED UP OR PUSHED DOWN.
I WENT OUT TO MY TRUCK ON 10/15/2016 TO NOTICE A CRACK IN MY DASHBOARD BETWEEN THE AIRBAG AND THE VENT. SINCE THEN I HAVE MADE SEVERAL CALLS TO STARTING WITH THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT MY TRUCK FROM. I EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT WAS GOING ON TO ONLY BE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. I CAN HOWEVER PAY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR A NEW DASHBOARD INSTALLED. NOW I FIND THIS AGGRAVATING AS THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I DID NOR WAS THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. IT HAS SIMPLY BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY!!! I THEN CALLED A BODY SHOP TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY CAN DO, IT WAS THEN I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE FOR CHEVY AND THAT THIS CRACK WILL CONTINUE TO SPIDER OUT AND EVENTUALLY SPREAD!!!!! THEY CAN FIX IT BUT UNLESS I REPLACE THE WHOLE DASHBOARD THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY IT!!!! BUT AGAIN I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS OUT OF MY POCKET. I THEN RESEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF EXACTLY HOW MANY CASES THERE ARE OUT THERE INVOLVING DASHBOARD CRACKS, COME TO FIND OUT THERE WAS A LAWSUIT AGAINST CHEVY FOR THIS EXACT REASON. IF CHEVY HAS THIS MANY COMPLAINTS AND IS AWARE OF THE DASHBOARD CRACKING WHY AREN'T THEY TRYING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND OFFER A RESOLUTION! THIS CONCERNS ME AS THIS IS NEAR THE AIRBAG, COULD THIS CAUSE HARM TO THE DRIVER OR THE PASSENGERS IF THE AIRBAG WERE TO DEPLOY???????????
MY 2012 1500 SILVERADO'S, DASH HAS CRACKED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE, PURCHASED LATE 2012 ONLY 40 K MILES, NO ACCIDENTS OR REASONS FOR CRACKS OTHER THAN FAULTY MATERIAL USE FOR DASH.

THE DASH HAVE THREE CRACKS IN IT EVEN THOUGH I KEEP IT COVERED. I SEE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION AND YET CHEVROLET AND OR THE DEALERS REFUSE TO REPLACE IT. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $200.00 TO $250.00 TO REPLACE IT. CHEVROLET KNOW OF THIS AND YET DO NOT WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. EVEN THE DEALER STATED THE THIS IS A DEFECT.
THE DASHBOARD CRACKED RIGHT NEAR AIRBAG ON PASSENGER SIDE. I DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF CLEANER TO MAKE IT CRACK AND I ALSO USE A VISOR TO COVER WIND SHIELD. I HAD THIS TRUCK FOR A YEAR AND COUPLE MONTHS. EVERY PERSON THAT I SPEAK WITH HAD SAME PROBLEM. AND THE SAME SPOT. WENT OUT TO MY TRUCK THIS MORNING AND LOW AND BEHOLD, THERE WAS A 4" CRACK IN THE DASH THAT WAS NOT THERE LAST NIGHT. IT STARTS AT THE LEFT FRONT CORNER OF THE AIRBAG AND GOES TOWARD THE WINDSHIELD. THERE IS A SMALL PIECE OF BLACK PLASTIC STICKING OUT OF THE CRACK. NOW I WONDER IF SOMEONE TOUCHES IT, THE AIR BAG WILL INFLATE. IS THIS SAFE OR NOT?
WOKE UP THIS MORNING, GOT IN MY 2012 SILVERADO, AND NOTICED A VERY LARGE CRACK IN THE DASH OVER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. AFTER A QUICK SEARCH, I CAN SEE THIS IS A VERY FREQUENT PROBLEM.
THE DASH IS CRACKING AND CHEVY SHARED THAT IT COST 1500 TO REPLACE SO THEY WILL ALLOW ME TO PAY $600 AND THEY WILL PAY THE REST. THE TRUCK HAS 44600 MILES I HAVE NOT REPLACE THE TIRES OR BRAKES YET IT IS PARKED UNDER A TREE MOST OF THE TIME THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS SHOULD HAPPEN.

CONCERNED ABOUT LOOSE PLASTIC BREAKING AND PROPELLING IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS IN AN ACCIDENT. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE LAST YEAR AND IT WAS FINE. THE CRACKS BEGAN WITHIN THE LAST MONTH. 5/13/2016

IT APPEARS THAT CHEVROLET/GM HAS CHANGED THE WIRING IN THEIR VEHICLES SO THAT ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLERS NO LONGER ILLUMINATE THE TRAILER BRAKE LIGHTS WHEN THE ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROLLER IS OPERATED INDEPENDENTLY FROM THE VEHICLE BRAKES. ALL BRAKE LIGHTS WORK FINE WHEN THE FOOT BRAKE IS APPLIED BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WHEN THE CONTROLLER OVERIDE IS APPLIED TO OPERATE THE TRAILER BRAKES INDEPENDENTLY. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN TRAILERING THAT ONE ONLY WISHES TO USE THE TRAILER BRAKES TO SETTLE DOWN SWAYING OR ON LONG DOWN HILL GRADES. 2012 VEHICLES ARE NOT WIRED SO THAT BRAKE LIGHTS ALSO WORK OFF THE CONTROLLER OVERRIDE SWITCH. I HAVE BEEN TOWING FOR OVER 26 YEARS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE ALWAYS WORKED BOTH ON THE FOOT BRAKE AND CONTROLLER OVERRIDE BRAKE SWITCH. THIS IS A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. IF ONE APPLIES THE TRAILER BRAKES ALONE WITH NO BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATING, THIS COULD CAUSE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO SLAM INTO THE BACK OF THE TRAILER AND TOW VEHICLE CAUSING A CRASH. CHEVROLET STATES THEY CANNOT CONNECT THE TRAILER CONTROLLERS TO OPERATE THE BRAKE LIGHTS AS IT WOULD BACK FEED POWER INTO THE ELECTRONICS OF THE VEHICLE VOIDING ANY WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE. TRAILER BRAKES LIGHTS ONLY WORK AS CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE WIRING WHEN STEPPING ON THE FOOT BRAKE. *KB
