Vacuum Pump exploded, my breaks went out on the freeway. Metal pieces from the pump went into engine. Broke the camshaft.

I have a 2017 Malibu and I pulled into my driveway to park and the car would not shift into park. The car’s stick shift malfunctioned and it was stuck in reverse. The vehicle would not shut off and the brakes would not work.

2017 chevy malibu repetively gets reduced power light. I drive highway at 65-80mph and the car gets that reduced power light and car slows to 20 MPH and won't accelerate past 20mph. It has happened at least 8 times.

I was driving on freeway at 70mph and suddenly I lost power and message showed up engine power reduced and the check engine light and the traction control light. I almost crashed. After doing some research online I found out that alot of other people had the same exact issue and there is a huge forum about it.

The car was parked outside my house for 2 hours and caught on fire. Fire dept said it started under passenger side of hood. It burned to a shell

When I came to a complete stop, the car stalled out and completely shut off.

Engine power reduced while driving on i83 on my way to work. I was driving at 65mph and it was reduced to 25mph. The check engine light is on.

The warning light comes on and off and is showing (P0498/P0449) which is the evaporative emission system vent control electrical circuit signal has low voltage for a predetermined period of time. Its calling to replace the evaporative emissions canister vent solenoid and I have seen 3 vehicles the same as mine needed the same thing fixed.

While driving to work on the freeway I slowed down as approaching slight congestion of cars. My check engine light, traction control light as well as "reduced engine power" message appeared. Vehicle would not accelerate properly.

When car is in park. Shift to park is on dashboard. Car won't fully turn off. It's been doing it for years. Was worked on at dealership. It's still doing it.

I have had experience with the "SHIFT TO PARK" error and I have had the "reduced engine power" error message resulting in an UNEEDED $2200 dollar repair only for it to break down 2 months later, same message this time with fuel spraying under the hood. I NEARLY BLEW MYSELF UP TRYING TO START MY CAR! How is it that I cant find this DANGEROUS defect on the recall list when I easily found the RECURRENT problem online? HELP

Lose power while driving

I tried to shift the car from drive to park but a message appeared saying I needed to put the car in park. The lights and radio were still on and I could not get the message to disappear even after several attempts to start/restart the car and moving through the gear shift. I will be taking the car to a dealership asap. There wasn’t any prior error or problem before this message started appearing. After numerous attempts “park” is recognized and the car shuts off completely.

Shift to park issue. While is in park after driving. I turn vehicle off and action required message pops up on dash stating shift to park but it’s in park.

Hundreds of times since I purchased the car in July, 2017 I've had a "shift to park" problem. Here is what happens. I go to park my car.

A "Shift to Park" message occasionally appears on the dash of my 2017 Chevy Malibu. I currently have 56570 miles on this vehicle. This is the second time that this issue has occurred in this vehicle.

I purchased a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu LT for my son Memorial Day weekend in 2019. The first night we got the vehicle home it rained overnight. We checked the trunk and found water in the trunk.

The vehicle has just over 51,000 miles on it. When shifted to park and turned off, it gives an error message "shift to park" and will not shut all the way off. This requires the car to be restarted, shifted out of park and back into park and shut down again, often multiple times.

My car shut off when I stopped at a blinking traffic light (normal). There was a higher than normal amount of traffic on the route I was waiting to turn onto. So the car remained off for close to 5 minutes.

When shifting the car into park the vehicle fails to detect when the gear selector has been shifted into Park. I am not able to shut off the vehicle. This is endangering my safety by having to spend extra time maneuvering the shifter in order to be able to turn the car off.

Shift to park. I am able to shift to park but then sometimes when I turn off my car, I receive a notification stating that my car is not in park. Most of the time I either have to jiggle the shift gear, turn off and on my car in order for the notification to go away.

Shift to park error. Micro switch inside shifter not making contact. Dealership replaced shifter control assembly in June 2019 with 9,393 miles on vehicle, Issue repeating June 2021.

This issue has happened twice. The first time it happened it was in motion on the highway and a message appeared on the dashboard, "engine power is reduced." it began deaccelerating from 75 MPH to 20 MPH. I had to quickly pull over the car to the side of the highway and I cut the car off.

WHEN I SHIFT MY CAR TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION, I RECEIVE A MESSAGE STATING "SHIFT TO PARK". IT KEEPS MY CAR IN THE ACCESSORY START POSITION THEREBY RUNNING THE BATTERY DOWN IF I CANNOT GET IT TO RECOGNIZE THAT THE CAR IS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERMITTENT, ONGOING PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL GM DEALER ABOUT THIS BUT THERE IS NO RECALL.

DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH AND CAR STATES REDUCED POWER MODE. I COULD ONLY GO 20 MPH AND TRY TO CROSS 4 LANES OF A HIGHWAY DURING RUSH HOUR. I ALMOST KILLED SEVERAL PEOPLE INCLUDING MYSELF. I HAVE READ THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE AND I WANT IT FIXED.

SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE. CANT TURN OFF CAR. SHIFTER IS IN PARK BUT SHIFT TO PARK ERROR MESSAGE. NOT SURE IF CAR IS FULLY IN PARK. GOT REPAIRED TWICE BUT CAR DEALERSHIP SAID TEMPORARY FIX, THIS WILL KEEP HAPPENING. *TR

WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IF I TURN OFF MY ENGINE AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF SITTING IN PARK, SOMETIMES MY CAR DOESN'T RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. MY CAR WILL TELL ME TO PUT IT IN PARK BEFORE I'M ABLE TO TURN OFF MY CAR. SOMETIMES I JUST HAVE TO STEP ON MY BREAK AGAIN, AND IT WILL RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO TURN MY ENGINE BACK ON AND WAIT A MINUTE OR TWO. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO PUT MY CAR IN DRIVE AGAIN BEFORE PUTTING IT IN PARK, WAITING A COUPLE MINUTES, AND THEN IT FINALLY RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT WHAT WORKS BEST, EXCEPT FOR JUST WAITING A LITTLE BIT BEFORE TRYING TO TURN OFF MY ENGINE. IF I CAN'T GET MY CAR TO RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK, I CAN'T LEAVE MY CAR BECAUSE THE BATTERY WILL NOT TURN OFF UNTIL IT RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. IT CAN BE VERY FRUSTRATING. WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT CHEVY, I MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM TO CHEVY, THINKING MAYBE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE. THEY SAID THEY'VE HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE, AND SAID THEY COULD FIX IT. WHEN I CAME BACK FOR MY NEXT OIL CHANGE, I AGAIN NEEDED TO MENTION THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR A LITTLE BUT COMES BACK. AGAIN, THEY SAID THEY COULD FIX IT, BUT IT STILL HAPPENS. THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM, IT'S HAPPENING TO MULTIPLE CHEVY CUSTOMERS, BUT NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO TELL ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS OR HOW TO FIX IT.

I JUST SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS ISSUE, IT HAS HAPPENED MORE TIMES THAN I CAN COUNT SO I'M SUBMITTING AGAIN. I HAVE TOLD PEOPLE AT CHEVY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM TWICE, WHEN I WENT IN FOR OIL CHANGES/MAINTENANCE. I HAVE ONLY GONE TO CHEVY FOR ANY TYPE OF MAINTENANCE BECAUSE I WANT MY CAR TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BY PEOPLE THAT SHOULD KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. THAT'S WHY I'M EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED THAT I HAVE PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW, TAKEN THE BEST CARE OF IT, ONLY TAKEN IT TO CHEVY EVEN THOUGH IT'S OBVIOUSLY MORE EXPENSIVE, BUT STILL NO ONE HAS HELPED ME WITH THIS PROBLEM OR EXPLAINED WHY IT'S HAPPENING. IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE I'VE REPORTED THE PROBLEM, AND NOW I'M WORRIED I MAY HAVE TOO MANY MILES FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IT DOESN'T ALWAYS RECOGNIZE IT'S IN PARK. THIS MEANS THAT MY CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF, AND I CAN'T LEAVE MY CAR UNTIL IT RECOGNIZES IT'S IN PARK. I'VE FOUND THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL ALMOST ALWAYS HAPPEN IF I TRY TO TURN OFF MY CAR ENGINE "TOO SOON". I HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT A MINUTE BEFORE I CAN TURN OFF MY ENGINE, OR I RISK MY CAR NOT RECOGNIZING IT'S IN PARK. IF THIS HAPPENS, SOMETIMES I ONLY HAVE TO PRESS ON MY BREAK. OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO TURN THE ENGINE BACK ON, DRIVE, AND WAIT BEFORE TRYING TO TURN MY ENGINE OFF AGAIN. THIS CAN TAKE MULTIPLE TRIES, MULTIPLE MINUTES WORTH OF JUST TRYING TO PARK MY CAR AND TURN IT OFF. I DO COMMUTE ABOUT 70 MILES ROUND TRIP FOR WORK EACH DAY (MONDAY-FRIDAY), SO I USE MY CAR QUITE A BIT, BUT LIKE I MENTIONED I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND TAKE THE BEST CARE OF IT. I DO NOT CUT ANY CORNERS BECAUSE I DO DRIVE IT A LOT. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT, HAD A TICKET, I DRIVE VERY SAFELY. THERE IS NO REASON, MY CAR SHOULD HAVE ANY PROBLEMS SIMPLY PARKING AFTER HAVING IT FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS.

MY TRUNK WAS FLOODED FOR NO REASON. PLUS WHEN I SHIFT TO PARK IT SAYS SHIFT TO PARK WHEN I ALREADY HAVE. MY SISTER JUST GAVE ME THIS CAR WITH ONLY 14,000 MILES AND TWO PROBLEMS. THE TRUNK MAT IS GETTING WHITE MOLD. THIS CAR SAT FOR 6 MONTHS. *TR

SOMETIMES WHEN I PARK, EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IS CLEARLY IN PARK, I RECEIVE A MESSAGE ON THE DASH THAT I NEED TO "SHIFT TO PARK". THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MANY GM VEHICLES AND IF YOU LEAVE THE CAR LIKE THIS, IT WILL DRAIN YOUR BATTERY. I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY SHIFT OUT OF PARK AND BACK IN TO GET THE MESSAGE TO GO AWAY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WILL DO WHEN THIS STOPS WORKING. THE DATE OF "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?" IS THE MOST RECENT, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES.

A DASHBOARD NOTICE TO 'SHIFT TO PARK' POPS UP AFTER PUTTING THE CAR INTO PARK AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN IT OFF. THE CAR DOES NOT REGISTER THAT THE CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN STOPPED AND SWITCHED TO PARK.

EVERY TIME I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE CAR OFF THE CAR OFTEN TIMES TELLS ME TO SHIFT THE CAR TO PARK WHEN IT'S ALREADY IN PARK. *TR

MY 2017 CHEVY MALIBU HAD THE ENGINE POWER REDUCED COME ON..IT WAS THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR..I GOT IT FIXED PAID ALMOST 400$..NOT EVEN 2 WEEKS LATER IT'S DOING IT AGAIN

Vehicle stuck in reverse shift lock had an internal failure and was replaced by the chevy dealership. Replaced shifter due to stuck lock. Pulled up to car wash put car in reverse shifter locked and was unable to move out of reverse.

WHEN I PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF I AM GETTING A MESSAGE THAT SAYS SHIFT TO PARK. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE.

I HAVE TO PUT ON MY FLASHERS WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND SHUT THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF UNTIL IT RESTARTS. ONE OF THE WARNINGS READ STABIL AND ANOTHER READS POWER SHUT OFF AS WELL AS BATTERY SAVER ACTIVE. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG SO THEY RESET THE SYSTEM HOWEVER, THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE REMAINS. THIS STARTED THE BEGINNING OF MARCH AND HAS CONTINUED.

REDUCED ENGINE POWER STARTED POPPING UP ON THE DASHBOARD AND FORCEFULLY REDUCES SPEED TO 20MPH. HUNDREDS OF CHEVY OWNERS ARE REPORTING THIS ABNORMALITIES RECENTLY AND CHEVROLET IS CONCEALING THIS MANUFACTURE DEFECT.

I WAS DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS WHEN ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHT CAME ON AND CARS MAX SPEED TOPPED OUT AT 20-25 MPH. STARTED THE CAR AN HOUR LATER AND EVERYTHING WENT OFF. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. A MONTH LATER SAME EXACT ISSUE. THIS TIME I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY AT 30MPH WHEN ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND SPEED WAS AFFECTED AGAIN. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT IS REMAINING ON.

I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET GOING 35MPH WHEN MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND A NOTIFICATION CAME ON MY DASHBOARD SAYING "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED". THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT FROM 35MPH TO 20MPH; I'M LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR 8 DAYS AGO AT 35,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THE ACCELERATION PEDAL POSITION SENSOR. THE CAR IS LESS THAN 36,000 MILES NOW.

YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING AND PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT. THE CAR SHUT UP AS NORMAL FOR THE ENERGY SAVER FEATURE, BUT WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CARE WOULD NOT MOVE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONTO THE SCREEN. I WAITED 2 MINUTES, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT. THE RADIO'S SOUND STOPPED WORKING AFTER THAT. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL ON THE DISPLAY SCREEN, BUT NO SOUND WAS COMING OUT, EVEN WHEN I PUSHED THE ON-STAR BUTTON. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR 10 MINUTES AND BACK ON AND THE RADIO WORKED AGAIN LIKE NORMAL.

When it rains, the floor mats get wet under the brake and accelerator. It happens every time it rains; they fixed the issue with the rain leaking in the trunk but not with the rain leaking inside the car.

The third brake light leaks water and has been leaking water evident by water marks on the vehicles head liner

A 'shift to park' displays when I am already on park when I try to turn off the car. So I am unable to turn off the car properly due to this. I took the car for a diagnostics at my local chevy dealer and the advisor told me that it's a manufacturer defect with the shift control.

I service check engine light goes on most of the time. I have gone to repair shop around 15x times in a almost 2 years period. I have trouble doing my last inspection did not wanna past, they told me to run the car in high way for 20 miles non stop,dnt understand why I needed to do this.

My malibu will shut off after atempts to restart when in auto stop. At first it would cut off but restart. As time went on it would go total black no lights no onstar can not put in gear.

2017 chevy malibu has "shift to park" warning light come on when the car is parked even when has been put in park several times. This light only comes on when stationary and trying to park the car. If I leave it like that and take the keys with me, it honks repeatedly.

Bought the car in 2017 with 22k miles on it, and now a year and a half later with 60k miles on it there are metal shavings in the transmission and I have to get it either completely rebuilt or replaced. It has been having issues with the transmission since I bought it, but every shop I took it to told me not to worry because 'all cars skip like this'.

While driving vehicle which I had for 2 an half weeks. The vehicle make a grinding or rubbing noise while driving it dont make any noise when pressing brakes. It may be the engine or the brakes or something is rubbing the tires.

When stopped at a stop light an electric motor kicks in for about 30 second and then the engine motor restarts making the car what to jump forward. If the driver has only a light foot on the break petal he/she could hit the car in front. I have notified both me dealer and gm as I believe this to be a safety issue in it design.

I shift the car in park I then turn off the car and then an alert comes up on the dash saying shift to park I then shift it back and forth nothing happens and then it automatically goes off after I wait awhile with it in park. This has occurred several times in the past year. I’m not sure if it is in park it does roll slightly then catches

The shift to park is defective. Having a hard time to turn car off constantly. It takes more than five minutes or more for the car to turn off without the shift to park ringing.

When you put it in park, you will get the "Shift to park" message and it can be very difficult to get it to go off.

When the car stops the auto stop turns on, but when the car is ready to move the auto stop will turn the car off or lose power. Another issue is that when the car is in park an error message says shift into park. This will not allow you to turn the car off.

Car will NOT recognize being shifted to park so transmission stays engaged, lights stay on you are basically trapped in your car until it recognizes the shifter is in park

My vehicle has recently displayed a message telling me to “Shift to Park,” even though the vehicle is in park. On 10/06/2021, twice it took 15 times shifting to get the car to go into park. Now, it does it every time I put the car into park.

It takes a while for the car to accelerate on highways or streets. With my foot to the floor of the accelerator, it gets to 20 MPH in about 15-20 seconds which prevents any pickup. Only thing that helps the pickup is when I use octane booster in the tank and it'll drive as it should with pickup for a very short period (5 miles) otherwise the acceleration is extremely laggy with no pickup.

Gear shift not staying in place. Monitor comes on dashboard when you put the car in park, and says 'shift to park'. Car was placed in park, but still rolled down the hill of a driveway, and got damaged.

On push to start ignition, ocassionally when stopping and placing vehicle in park and then pressing stop on ignition button, a warning message pops up to shif to park. After putting foot on brake and pressing ignition button on to start the vehicle, and then immediately pressing ignition button to stop vehicle ( without touching shift), the message does not return.

I put my car in park, turn my engine off and there's an error message on the dashboard saying, "put in park." I have to keep turning the engine off and on, and putting it in drive and park numerous times before everything shuts off.

Twice this week as I would come to a stop light a notification would come up in the dashboard saying something regarding the steering assist and all of my lights would come on inside the dashboard then the car would shut off I don't exactly know what causes it so turn back on but I would turn it on and off and the first couple times it would just click then all of a sudden it'll crank back up.

Every time it rains water gets into the car. The first time I discovered it the trunk was soaked and the car smelled horrible (8/24/2017, 11/2/2017, 1/2018 etc etc)

A traction control light came on then warning reduced power mode and engine light while car was in drive on highway 2 times

When I press on the break pedal it makes a spongy sound and feels unsafe

Gas tank only fills to 7/8 of a tank. I have had it at chevy five times and now it reads full but when I drive the car ten miles it reads less the 3/4 of a tank.

I purchased my 2017 chevrolet malibu in october of 2017. Since I have had the vehicle the interior carpet comes untucked from the trim. Chevrolet indicates it is a big problem and is a common problem.
