AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER CRASHED INTO THE MEDIAN WALL ON THE HIGHWAY. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INTERNAL INJURIES AND THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED A FRACTURED NECK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT AND DEEMED DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE SEAT BELTS FAILED TO LATCH AND THE ENGINE FAILED TO DISENGAGE AFTER THE CRASH. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON ROUTE 24 - DIXIE HIGHWAY - SOUTH OF DAVISBURG ROAD / NORTH OF I-75 (OAKLAND COUNTRY, MI) AT 6PM ON THURSDAY JUNE 25, 2015. THERE WAS A CHEVY IMPALA DRIVING SOUTH IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE (I.E. HE WAS HEADING THE WRONG WAY). I AVOIDED HIM BY SWERVING BUT HE COLLIDED WITH A FORD EXPLORER HEADING NORTH. THE COLLISION WAS NOMINALLY A HEAD ON, OFFSET TOWARDS THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE IMPALA WAS FAIRLY NEW, AFTERWARDS I CHECKED PICTURES ON THE WEB AND I'M PRETTY CONFIDENT IT WAS A MY 2006-2012 MODEL. THE EXPLORER WAS FAIRLY NEW AS WELL. I WAS ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO ARRIVE AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE IMPALA DRIVER WASN'T WEARING HIS SEAT BELT AND WAS UNCONSCIOUS LAYING ACROSS THE FRONT SEATS WHEN I ARRIVED. THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED WHERE HIS HEAD HAD STRUCK IT. THE HORN WAS SOUNDING AND IT LOOKED LIKE FUEL HAD BEEN SPILLED. I WANTED TO MAKES SURE THE CAR WAS OFF TO PREVENT A FIRE SO I REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION. THE HORN CONTINUED TO SOUND. IT WAS EVENTUALLY STOPPED WHEN SOMEONE DISCONNECTED THE CABLES FROM THE BATTERY. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS IN THE IMPALA HAD BEEN DEPLOYED. THERE WAS A KNOWLEDGEABLE VOLUNTEER NEAR BY WHO TOLD US NOT TO TOUCH THE DRIVER BECAUSE HE MAY HAVE SPINAL INJURIES. I SPENT THE NEXT THIRTY MINUTES AT THE SCENE AND PROVIDED A WRITTEN STATEMENT TO THE POLICE. BASED UPON THE WAY THE BODY WAS HANDLED, I AM ASSUMING THE DRIVER OF THE IMPALA WAS KILLED BY THE IMPACT. I AM SURPRISED THAT THERE WAS ENOUGH FORCE IN THE IMPACT TO KILL THE DRIVER (I ASSUME) BUT NOT ENOUGH TO DEPLOY THE AIRBAGS. THE DRIVER IN THE EXPLORER WAS INJURED BUT HER INJURIES DIDN'T LOOK ESPECIALLY SERIOUS AND HER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I BELIEVE THE IMPALA SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED / INSPECTED BY A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL TO ESTABLISH THE ROOT CAUSE ON WHY THE AIRBAG DIDN'T DEPLOY.

DANGER HERE IS THAT THIS SHOULD BE FIXED BY CHEVROLET WITH A RECALL, BUT NO RECALL AS OF YET. THIS DEFECT SHOULD BE FIXED BY CHEVROLET. I AM A DEPUTY SHERIFF AND WAS DRIVING A 2006 CHEVY IMPALA WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ENDING UP IN A DITCH. DURING THE COLLISION MY AIRBAG DEPLOYED FRACTURING MY STERNUM FROM TOP TO BOTTOM ALONG WITH BREAKING A RIB. SINCE THE COLLISION I RECEIVED MY MRI RESULT FINDING I ALSO HAVE TWO COMPACTED DISKS IN MY NECK AND A COMPACTED DISK IN MY LOWER BACK. I AM AN AVERAGE SIZE MAN 5'9" TALL 190 POUNDS VERY PHYSICALLY ACTIVE AND WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT AND A BULLET PROOF VEST. THE "BLACK BOX" IN THE VEHICLE SHOWED THE IMPACT WAS AT 11 MPH. ACCORDING TO MY DOCTOR THE BREAK TO MY STERNUM WOULD TAKE A MASSIVE FORCE WHICH WAS ALSO VERIFIED BY MY PULMONARY SPECIALIST.. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET IMPALA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45-50 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON. SHE BELIEVED BOTH VEHICLES WERE DESTROYED. THE FRONT END OF HER VEHICLE WAS CRUSHED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT INJURED HER BACK AND HEAD, AND IS CURRENTLY SEEING A DOCTOR. HER SIX MONTH OLD DAUGHTER WAS SEATED IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT AND SUSTAINED A BLACK EYE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 94,000.
MY WIFE WAS REAR ENDED BY AN 04 LINCOLN WHILE TRAVELING 40MPH. THIS TURNED HER 06 CHEVY IMPALA INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH A FORD RANGER GOING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION. RANGER DOING 40-45 MPH, IMPALA DOING 40MPH. MY IMPALA IS BEING REPAIRED AND IS NOT TOTALED. MY WIFE WAS THE DRIVER AND WAS INJURED IN THIS CRASH. HE STRUCK THE VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND NEITHER THE DRIVER NOR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES TO HIS WRIST. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MAJOR FRONT END DAMAGE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE CRASH HAD TO HAVE BEEN A DIRECT HIT ON THE SENSOR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 21,600. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH IN THE RAIN ON THE HIGHWAY, TRAFFIC STOPPED ABRUPTLY, CAUSING A REAR END COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THE ACCIDENT. ONE INJURY WAS SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR TRANSPORT TO THE HOSPITAL FOR POSSIBLE BACK INJURY. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN.
