Your brake pedal suddenly became extremely hard to press while driving on a busy highway, causing a loss of brake assist that made it difficult to slow down — you had to use the emergency brake to stop safely. A mechanic found that the vacuum pump had failed and broken the exhaust camshaft and related components. The repair involves replacing the vacuum pump, exhaust camshaft assembly, camshaft actuator, solenoid, and valve cover gasket.

Your brakes completely failed while driving due to a vacuum pump failure in the engine, which also caused internal engine damage requiring a complete engine replacement. The dealership acknowledged this is a known issue on Colorados, and there were no warning signs before the failure occurred. A GM Technical Service Bulletin documents similar vacuum pump failures on other GM vehicles, suggesting this is a widespread manufacturing defect rather than an isolated problem. The repair involved replacing the vacuum pump and the entire engine under warranty.

While driving, your vehicle shuddered and wouldn't slow down properly even when you pressed the brake pedal, and the accelerator didn't respond correctly either. When inspected, technicians found an engine oil leak and discovered that the brake booster had exploded with metal shavings inside the engine. The dealer was unable to guarantee repairs would fix these serious problems.

Your truck's vacuum pump can fail without warning, which causes the exhaust camshaft to break and results in a complete loss of braking ability. This is a serious safety issue that leaves you unable to stop your vehicle. The repair will likely involve replacing the vacuum pump and inspecting or replacing the exhaust camshaft.

Your truck's brake pedal became extremely hard to press while driving, requiring all your weight to slow down and forcing you to use the emergency brake to stop safely. When you checked under the hood, you found the camshaft sensor was loose. Your truck only has 43,136 miles, and you previously took it to the dealer for a rattling noise at 1500 RPM that persisted even after they replaced the catalytic converter.

While driving 64 mph on Highway 16, your brakes suddenly became very stiff and unresponsive when you tried to stop, even though they were working fine just minutes before. You were unable to slow down and had to drive onto the shoulder, passing multiple vehicles before finally coming to a stop. This sudden brake failure created a serious safety risk and could have resulted in a collision at high speed. The issue likely involves the brake system's hydraulic components or brake fluid, and a complete brake system inspection and possible fluid replacement or component repair will be necessary.

Your brake booster pump failed without any warning, causing your brakes to become extremely stiff and hard to press. You had to use all your weight to stop the truck, and while you made it home safely, this created a serious safety risk. Your mechanic confirmed the pump isn't working despite receiving power and air supply. The fix will involve replacing the vacuum pump brake booster.

Brake failure. Brake pedal became hard to push and little braking action. I relied on downshifting and the parking brake to stop the vehicle from 40MPH.

The brakes went out on the vehicle while my service technician was driving and he barely missed getting in an accident. We had it towed to the Chevy dealer and the brake Pump shattered causing damage to the exhaust clamp and they are telling me it’s not under warranty or recall but I see this is happened with millions of other Chevy vehicles?
