ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CRANKCASE (PCV)
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2008-2011 128i and 2007-2011 328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive, 525i, 525xi, 528i, 528xi, 530i, 530xi, X3 3.0si, X3 xDrive30i, X5 xDrive30i, Z4 3.0i, Z4 3.0si and Z4 sDrive30i vehicles. The heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve may short circuit.
Fix: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the PCV valve heater, free of charge. Interim letters were mailed on November 27, 2017. Owners will receive a second notification by the end of October 2018. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Consumer has reached out several times now since then and they have stated that there is nothing they can do at the moment. They say that it should be okay to drive the car until they are able to fix it. The car is not safe to drive and when turned on is very shaky, the engine is loud and gives off strong gas fumes.

I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 20 MPH AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN I HEARD A SNAP NOISE AND STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO MOVE, I MANAGED TO PARK THE CAR SAFELY AND TURNS OUT THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE TENSIONER PULLEY BROKE OFF. THE REPAIR IS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT AND BECAUSE I WAS ONLY DOING 20 MPH I MANAGED TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND OTHERS SAFETY. IMAGINE IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 70 MPH. I WOULD LIKE BMW TO PAY FOR MY REPAIR AND MAKE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ANYMORE TO ME OR ANYONE ELSE.

BMW SAYS "TOUGH LUCK." BMW NEEDS TO ISSUE RECALLS ON SEVERAL OF THESE COMPONENTS FOR FREE REPLACEMENT BUT HAVE NOT DONE SO. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS?
STARTED MY 2008 BMW X5 4.8I WITH ONLY 90,000 MILES A BIG PUDDLE FORMED UNDER THE CAR. TOWED THE CAR TO INDEPENDENT SHOP THEY SAID THE ALTERNATOR BRACKET GASKET WENT BAD PREMATURELY NOTED BY THE REPAIR SHOP SAID IT'S A COMMON FACTORY DEFECT AN THAT THERE MIGHT BE A RECALL OUT FOR THIS.

WATER PUMP PROBLEM OF THE 2008 BMW X5 ENGINE OVERHEATED WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATED WHEN DRIVING ON HIGH WAY WITH 65MPH WITH A REDUCED POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53K.
ENGINE SUDDENLY OVERHEATS DUE TO DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP AND SHUTS DOWN QUICKLY. OVER HEAT WARNING CAME ON A FEW SECONDS BEFORE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY DERATED AND WENT TO IDLE. VERY DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY WITH NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. ONLY 37,700 ON VEHICLE. BMW OWNERS REPORTING HIGH FREQUENCY OF PREMATURE WATER PUMP FAILURES. REPAIRS COST $1,499 WITH ADDITIONAL TOWING CHARGES OF $285. THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMPS HAVE POOR QUALITY PLASTIC IMPELLERS. BMW SHOULD RECALL THIS COSTLY REPAIR DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS. MY FAMILY AND I WERE STRANDED FOR HOURS WAITING ON A TOW DURING UNSAFE CONDITIONS.
OVERHEATING ISSUE. I FIXED THE THERMOSTAT AND THE WATER HOSE BUT CAR IMMEDIATELY OVERHEATED ONCE I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN ON THE FREEWAY. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
MY 2008 X5 3.0SI STARTED JUST OUT OF THE BLUE TO HAVE THIS SUPER LOUD FAN NOISE WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN TO PICK UP MY KIDS. IT WAS NOT EVEN HOT OUTSIDE SO I WAS WONDERING WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT. ALSO GOT THE WATER OVERHEATING WARNING. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS FAULTY. COST ME ALMOST $1400.00 AND THE CAR HAD ONLY 37000 MILES ON THE CLOCK. WHY IS THERE NO RECALL FOR THE 2008 6CYLINDER ENGINE?
CAR STALLED AND THE MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD "ENGINE TOO HOT. PULL OVER AND CONTACT BMW REPRESENTATIVE". THE ISSUE IS THE WATER PUMP GOING BAD CAUSING ENGINE TO BECOME HOT. THE DEALER IS SAYING THAT A NEW WATER PUMP IS REQUIRED.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO PICK UP MY SON FROM SCHOOL AND SHE NOTICED A LOUD HUMMING NOISE AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES INTO THE DRIVE. THE RADIATOR FAN KICKED IN BECAUSE THE ENGINE COOLANT GOT ABOVE A CERTAIN TEMPERATURE. AFTER 10 MINUTES THE WARNING LABEL POPPED UP TO STOP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE DUE TO COOLANT TEMPERATURE HIGH. ALSO NO HOT AIR WAS COMING FROM THE HEATER. MY SUSPICION THAT THE ELECTRIC WATER PUMP WAS FAILED WAS ALSO CONFIRMED BY MY DEALER BILLJACOBS OF NAPERVILLE WHICH DID THE REPAIR ON THE 31.MARCH 2015.
WARNING CAME ENGINE OVERHEATING STOP AND CALL DEALER.COOLING FAN BLOWING AT FULL SPEED AS IF PLANE HAS STARTED. TOOK TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED WATER PUMP FAILURE AND TOLD AFTER 5 YEARS MAJORITY OF THESE CARS HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND HE HAS REPAIRED MANY OF THEM. *TR

MY BMW OCCASIONALLY STALLS AT A LOW SPEED AFTER A BRAKE OR IN A TURN. THE ENGINE IS QUIETLY OFF AND THE ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN I RESTART THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE LIGHT IS OFF AND IT DRIVES NORMAL. IT LOOKS LIKE A MINOR PROBLEM, BUT CAN BE HAZARDOUS. AT ONE TIME, MY CAR STALLED AFTER I MADE A BRAKE AND STARTED TO TURN. SUDDENLY I FEEL THE STEER WHEEL IS LOCKED AND I LOST SOME BRAKE FORCE. I ALMOST CRASHED INTO THE BRICK FENCE AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS REALLY SCARY. I THINK IT COULD BE EVEN MORE DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPEN IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, FOR EXAMPLE, BRAKE BEFORE ENTERING A HIGHWAY, SLOW TURNING ON A BRIDGE. I'VE SENT MY CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY TRACED NO ERROR AND PROBLEMS, AND ASK ME TO DRIVE UNTIL THE PROBLEM BECOME MORE OBVIOUS. THE NEXT MORNING I TURNED ON THE CAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AND WAS TOLD NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR BECAUSE COULD DAMAGE THE ENGINE. HAD THE CAR TOWED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE RADIATOR. WAS TOLD THAT BMW RESIGNED THE RADIATOR THERE FOR THE HOSES HAD TO BE DONE OVER. THERE WAS NEVER ANY OTHER INDICATION PRIOR TO THIS. WAS ON MY WAY DRIVING OUT OF TOWN. INTERNET SHOWS 38,000 RECALLS OF X-5 FOR WATER PUMP PROBLEM BUT JUST MY LUCK MY CAR IS EXCLUDED. I AM WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM BMW USA REGARDING MY REQUEST TO HAVE ISSUE COVERED. I WAS ABOUT LESS THAN 2 MILES AWAY FROM HOME AND I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH. I HEARD A LOUD FAN SOUND AND IN FEW SEC I GOT A MESSAGE IN THE DISPLAY BOARD SAYING ENGINE OVER HEATING DRIVE SLOWLY. THEN I STOPPED THE VEHICLE BY PULLING IT TO THE SIDE AND LET THE ENGINE COOL FOR 15 MIN. THEN I DROVE BACK HOME. WHEN I WAS 50 YARDS AWAY FROM HOME I GOT THOSE TWO MESSAGES BACK ONE AFTER THE OTHER. BUT, I DROVE IT SLOWLY TO THE DRIVE WAY MY HOUSE. IN ADDITION, WHEN ENCOUNTERING A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND DOWN-SHIFTING FROM THIRD TO SECOND GEAR, AN ABNORMAL CLICKING NOISE WOULD OCCUR. RECENTLY, THE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. SUBSEQUENT TO MY PURCHASE, I DISCOVERED THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP IN THE VEHICLE HAD EARLIER FAILED AND BEEN REPLACED. ON 10/28/10, JUST 5 DAYS AFTER PURCHASING - I WAS DRIVING ON A SURFACE STREET WHEN THE CAR BEGAN VIOLENTLY SHAKING AND ROCKING, THE ENGINE LOST SUBSTANTIAL POWER AND NEARLY STALLED, AND THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIT. THEN ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 6TH THE ENGINE LOST POWER AGAIN AND SAME MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE IDRIVE SCREEN. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL INJECTION WAS A "HIGH PROFILE" PART IN MUNICH AND THEREFORE THEY WERE TOLD TO JUST RESET THE LIGHT TO SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM OUTRAGED THAT BMW PUT MY FAMILY IN SUCH DANGER SO AS TO NOT HAVE TO REPLACE HIGH PROFILE PARTS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE WHAT IS GOING ON WITH BMW THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT COMES ON WITHOUT NOTICE OR WARNING POWER JUST IS GONE. I HAVE ASKED BMW TO REFUND MY MONEY BUT THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR SINCE SEPTEMBER 6TH AND I AM GETTING NOTHING BUT THE RUN AROUND. *TR
