Open Safety Recalls (3)
NHTSA Campaign: 24V104000
Component: ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)
BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 2023-2025 BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models and model years. The integrated brake (IB) system may malfunction and result in a loss of power brake assist or cause the Antilock Brake (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) systems to not function properly.
Risk: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle. Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Dealers will replace the integrated brake system, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed between June and December 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Rolls Royce customer service at 1-877-877-3735.
NHTSA Campaign: 24V829000
Component: STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 X1 xDrive28i and X1 M35i vehicles. The left and right-side B-Pillar reinforcement plates may have been manufactured with insufficient structural strength.
Risk: A B-Pillar structure with reduced strength may not adequately protect passengers in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: Dealers will inspect the left-side and right-side B-Pillar and, if affected, replace the B-Pillar, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 7, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
NHTSA Campaign: 25V616000
Component: SEAT BELTS:FRONT:RETRACTOR
BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2025-2026 X1 and X2, MINI Cooper Convertible, MINI Cooper, Mini Countryman S ALL4, and 2025 MINI Countryman SE ALL4 vehicles. The torsion bar in both front seat belt retractors may have been damaged during production.
Risk: A damaged seat belt retractor may not properly restrain an occupant during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Fix: Dealers will replace both front seat belt retractors, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 13, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be searchable on NHTSA.gov on November 7, 2025.
Owner-Reported Issues (9 of 9)
Power Train,electrical System,engine →1 issue
Your 2025 X1 has been displaying persistent drivetrain fault warning lights since December 4, 2025, despite multiple software reloads at the dealer. You've experienced concerning issues including false rollover warnings on flat surfaces and a limitation where the car wouldn't accelerate beyond 30 mph, which felt unsafe. The dealer has escalated the issue to BMW with no resolution and is no longer responding to your requests for a buyback or further assistance.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting,vehicle Speed Control →1 issue
Your dashboard screen repeatedly goes completely black while driving at highway speeds (70+ mph), leaving you without a speedometer, fuel gauge, climate controls, or any instrument cluster information. This has happened about 10 times despite the dealer replacing the head unit multiple times. Your dome lights have also stopped working, and the car has spent about 30 days in the shop across four service visits since you purchased it new in late July 2025.

Electrical System,exterior Lighting →1 issue
Your dashboard screens went completely black while driving at 65 mph on the highway, including your speedometer. After about 10 seconds, the driver's side screen came back on, but all warning lights appeared and the entertainment system restarted, taking 20-30 seconds to come back. The speedometer also displayed incorrect speed information. This is a serious issue since you couldn't see critical driving information while on the highway.

Forward Collision Avoidance →1 issue
Your forward collision avoidance system failed to brake when approaching another SUV, resulting in a rear-end collision with significant damage to both vehicles. You were told this braking issue had been fixed in the 2025 model year after previous recall notices, but the system did not function as expected. The fix will likely involve diagnostic testing of the collision avoidance system, brake module reprogramming, or hardware replacement.

Service Brakes →1 issue
While your parked 2025 BMW X1 was unoccupied, a fire started on the front passenger side of the engine hood and spread to engulf the entire vehicle within minutes. Fire officials believe the fire originated in the front passenger brake system. The vehicle was a total loss and had only about 1,000 miles on it. This issue requires immediate investigation into potential brake fluid leaks, damaged brake lines, or faulty brake components that may have caused overheating or ignition.

Electrical System →1 issue
Your tire pressure warning system may only display a generic "Check Tire Pressure" message even when tire pressure drops to dangerously low levels, without escalating to a more urgent or critical alert. This vague warning could lead you to think the issue is routine rather than a serious safety problem, potentially causing you to continue driving on unsafe tires. The lack of an emergency-level warning when tire pressure becomes hazardous may leave you unaware of a dangerous condition. A software update to the tire pressure monitoring system would likely be needed to add escalating alert levels based on how low the pressure drops.

Back Over Prevention →1 issue
Your 2025 X1's back-over prevention system isn't alerting you to vehicles or pedestrians crossing behind the car while backing up. You've had two close calls with crossing vehicles and nearly hit a pedestrian because the system failed to warn you. The fix would likely involve diagnosing the rear camera, sensors, or the warning system software to identify why alerts aren't triggering.

Tires →1 issue
Your 2025 BMW X1 came with Bridgestone Turanza all-season tires, and at just 15,000 miles, the tread has worn down to 4/32 inches—a point where replacement is recommended. This level of wear seems unusually fast compared to OEM tires on previous vehicle models. The owner is concerned about premature tire failure affecting safety, along with environmental waste from early replacement.

Power Train →1 issue
Your transmission unexpectedly shifted from Drive into Park while you were at an ATM, leaving your car stuck and unable to move—with no warning lights to alert you. You had to restart the vehicle multiple times and call police for help before it responded about 10 minutes later. The dealer couldn't identify the problem and didn't repair it, though they were able to reproduce the same failure in a test BMW X2.
