AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2006-2007 Volkswagen Passat sedan and wagon vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.

Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driver air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began on April 30, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q8. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-079.

Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to explode.

Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator with an alternative inflator, free of charge. The recall began March 16, 2018. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 69Q9. Note: This recall partially supersedes recall 16V-078.

(Volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Golf, 2007-2010 Passat sedans and wagon, 2012-2014 Passat sedan and Eos, 2009-2014 CC, 2009-2012 Audi Q5, 2010-2012 S5 Cabriolet and 2010-2012 Audi A5 Cabriolet vehicles. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.

Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflators, free of charge. Volkswagen issued an interim notification to owners on April 12, 2016, and will send a second notification when parts are available. Volkswagen will notify owners again once parts are available. Volkswagen owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Audi owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Beetle, Beetle Convertible, 2012-2014 Passat, 2017 Passat Wagon, and 2006-2007 Passat Sedan vehicles. The driver's side frontal air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

Fix: Dealers will replace the driver's side front air bag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 4, 2024. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are 69EG, 69GQ, and 69E6.

Your Volkswagen has a recalled Takata airbag that needs to be replaced, but you haven't been able to get it fixed because you live in Juneau, Alaska and the nearest repair shops are in Anchorage or Seattle, requiring expensive ferry transport. You've contacted Volkswagen multiple times over two years without getting a solution, and you're understandably concerned about safety if the airbag were to deploy in an accident. Resolving this will require Volkswagen to either provide a mobile repair service to your location, cover ferry and repair costs, or arrange an alternative solution for remote customers.

TAKATA RECALL: I BROUGHT MY 2007 PASSAT TO KUHN VW IN TAMPA, FL. AT FIRST THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE RECALL, BECAUSE VW WAS COMING OUT WITH ANOTHER ONE IN A FEW MONTHS AND THEY WOULDNT RECEIVE PAYMENT FOR THE FIRST ONE. I CAME BACK 2 MONTHS LATER IN JULY 2018 AND HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED. I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHEN I RETURNED FROM WORK IN OCT 2018 AND THE HORN AND STEERING WHEEL BUTTONS NO LONGER WORK, THE VERY NEXT DAY, I GET A AIRBAG FAULT ON THE DASH. I'M NOT SURE, SINCE KUHN NEVER SAID, IF THE TWO WERE RELATED. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $129 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH I REFUSED AND COMPLAINED, THEN THEY DID IT FOR FREE AND STATED THAT ITS THE CLOCK-SPRING? I FIND IT IRONIC THAT THE CLOCK SPRING WOULD GO OUT AFTER INSTALLING THIS RECALL. READING SOME OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS WHICH SOME HAVE STATED THE SAME PROBLEM. KUHN OFFERED TO REPLACE THE CLOCK SPRING FOR $400+, WHICH I CANT AFFORD.

WE HAVE BEEN WAITING ON A LIST TO GET THE AIRBAG REPLACED. MY CAR WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, AND CAR IS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS AND LUCKY NO ONE WAS HURT. THE CAR SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DRIVEN UNTIL IT WAS FIXED BUT THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE, I THINK VW SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST OFFERED A RENTAL TILL IT WAS FIXED. NOW I HAVE A TOTALED CAR BECAUSE OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. THE ROADS WERE WET AND PERSON IN FRONT OF HIM GOT CUTOFF AND SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES AND MY CAR REAR ENDED THAT CAR. I HAD AN INDEPENDENT CAR MECHANIC INVESTIGATE THE ISSUE AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE AIR BAG FAULT IS INDICATIVE OF A BAD SENSOR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH KEFFER VOLKSWAGEN IN HUNTERSVILLE NORTH CAROLINA TO ACCURATELY DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE ON 8/1/2014. I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN (703-364-7000) ON 7/25/2014 AND SPOKE WITH A CUSTOMER ADVOCATE TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT AND ASK THEM IF THEY WOULD COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIRS. SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE ISSUE HAS CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE HARNESS RECALL FROM 3 YEARS AGO I EXPECTED THEM TO COVER IT. (I HAD THE HARNESS REWIRED WITH THE NEW HARNESS AS A PART OF THAT RECALL.) VOLKSWAGEN TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIRS DUE TO THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE. CASE # [XXX]. I HAVE CONCERNS BECAUSE I KNOW THIS IS A BIGGER ISSUE AND NOT JUST A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. I HAVE PROVIDED SOME SCREEN PRINTS OF OTHER VOLKSWAGEN OWNERS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEMS. SEVERAL DRIVERS HAVE BEEN IN ACCIDENTS WHERE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVERS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING DURING AN ACCIDENT AND OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYING WHILE DRIVING. I ALSO HAVE THE SAME CONCERNS AND I BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS A DESIGN FLAW / DEFECT THAT COULD LEAD TO A LARGER SAFETY RECALL. IF VOLKSWAGEN IS TO FIX THE ISSUE WITH THE SAME PARTS WILL THE ISSUES CONTINUE TO PERSIST? THIS IS DEEPLY CONCERNING, ESPECIALLY WHEN AN EMPLOYEE AT HUNTERSVILLE NORTH CAROLINA INFORMED ME THAT PARTS AND LABOR ARE ONLY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR ONE YEAR AFTER THE REPAIRS. WE PURCHASED OUR 2007 PASSAT 3.6L 4-MOTION WAGON AND HAD ISSUES WITH THE AIRBAGS FROM DAY 1 (LITERALLY), AND HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE SENSORS UNDER BOTH SEATS WITHIN THE FIRST THREE DAYS. WITHIN A MONTH, WE BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM. NEW TIRES FIXED THE TPMS ISSUE FOR ABOUT A WEEK, THEN WE BEGAN HAVING ISSUES AGAIN. A YEAR AFTER WE BOUGHT THE CAR, MY WIFE HAD AN ACCIDENT (REAR-ENDED SOMEONE), AND THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. WE HAD TO HAVE THE ENTIRE FRONT-END REPAIRED - $10,237 WORTH OF REPAIRS. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED, THERE WAS SO MUCH EXTERNAL NOISE THAN THERE WAS BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. OVER THE NEXT 8 MONTHS, WE BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON (AND STAYING ON). WHEN THE CAR SHUT OFF ONE DAY, RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF (BUSY) TRAFFIC, I TOOK IT BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY TOOK OUR 2007 PASSAT TO THE VW DEALERSHIP, WHICH MADE A BLANKET STATEMENT THAT NONE OF THE EXISTING ISSUES WERE RELATED TO THE WRECK. THEREFORE, THE REPAIR SHOP WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING MORE TO FIX THE CAR, AND SINCE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIRS EITHER. ON OCTOBER 29, 2012, 14 MONTHS AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AS IT HAD MANY TIMES BEFORE. HOWEVER, ON OCTOBER 30, 2012, THE ENGINE DIED COMPLETELY. WE'VE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THE BEARINGS ARE COMPLETELY GONE AND WERE TOLD IT WILL COST US $7,000 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. BUT THAT STILL DOESN'T INCLUDE REPAIRS TO THE PREVIOUSLY EXISTING ISSUES WITH THE TPSM OR THE AIRBAG. *TR

THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 75,000.

THIS PASSAT CONTINUES TO HAVE AIR BAG ISSUES. THE AIR BAG FAULT LIGHT HAS GONE ON MULTIPLE TIMES IN LAST 12 MONTHS. PER THE VW TECH'S, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON. THE AIR BAGS, WIRES, HARNESSES AND COMPONENTS HAVE ALL BEEN REPLACED. AT LAST VISIT TO VW, THEY STATED NOTHING ELSE CAN GO WRONG BECAUSE IT HAS ALL BEEN REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN FOR SAME REPAIR. THE ABOVE DATE IS AN ESTIMATE. BUT, IT HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR THIS ISSUE BY CURRENT DEALER SINCE 8/11/11. *TR
