Your air bag warning light has turned on and stays on even though nothing happened to trigger it. Based on other reports, this could be related to a faulty front passenger detection system that may deactivate the front passenger air bag without warning. A disabled air bag won't deploy in a crash, creating a serious safety risk for anyone sitting in the front passenger seat. Volkswagen is working on a fix, but until it's available, you shouldn't allow anyone to sit in the front passenger seat.

Your passenger airbag warning light turned on after you drove over a bump in the road. The airbag system may have a loose connection or sensor issue that needs to be diagnosed. A technician will need to scan your airbag system with a diagnostic tool to identify and fix the problem.

While backing out of a parking spot, your dashboard displayed an airbag error message and the airbag warning light came on. At the same time, your cruise control, steering wheel controls (music, menu), and horn stopped working, and you now hear a noise coming from the steering column when turning.

Your front passenger airbag warning light turned on and won't turn off, even though nothing triggered it. The light stays on whether an adult, child, or no one is sitting in the passenger seat. This may indicate a problem with the airbag system's weight sensor or the airbag control module that needs diagnostic testing and possible replacement.

SOMETIMES I LEAVE MY CELL PHONE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THE WARNING BELL CHIMES. IF I REMOVE MY CELL PHONE FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE WARNING STOPS OR IF I DO LOCK THE SEATBELT, IT WILL ALSO STOP THE WARNING. IT SEEMS LIKE THE PART THAT CHECKS IF A PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT IS MALFUNCTIONING. THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME BUT I HAVE NOTICED IT THREE TIMES SO FAR, MOSTLY IN COLDER WEATHER.
