ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
The Gates Corporation (Gates) is recalling certain aftermarket Tru-Flow Water Pumps, part number TFW 41127, sold at certain NAPA Auto Parts and/or installed by automotive service technicians after November 1, 2013 (and manufactured August 2013 through October 2013) that have a black-colored pulley/sprocket or do not have 'US9377' stamped on the water pump housing. These service replacement parts were sold for use in model year 1999-2005 Audi A4, 2000-2006 Audi TT, 1998-2005 Volkswagen Beetle, 1999-2006 Golf, 1999-2008 and 2011-2013 Volkswagen Jetta, and 2000-2005 Volkswagen Passat. In the affected water pumps, the pulley or sprocket that turns the timing belt may develop microfractures causing the timing belt to fail.
Fix: Gates will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water pump, free of charge. The recall began during May 2014. Owners may contact The Gates Corporation at 1-303-744-1911.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY CAUGHT FIRE, WHILE IDLED IN A DRIVE THRU LINE AT A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT. THE FIRE STARTED UNDER THE HOOD. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A JUNK YARD. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF A POLICE REPORT OR FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. THE DEALER MIKE HAGGERTY VOLKSWAGEN (8920 S CICERO AVE, OAK LAWN, IL 60453 (708) 425-8989) TOLD THE CONTACT TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO CALL THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
ENGINE MISFIRES WHILE DRIVING OR ACCELERATING OR SLOWING. THEN VEHICLE VIBRATES AND STALLS. INTERMITTENT AND WITHOUT WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH. VW GARAGE COULD NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM APRIL 11, 2019 AND MAY 7 TO 11,2019. VEHICLE HAD RECALL ON COILS APPROXIMATELY 2011 AND COILS WERE REPLACED BUT ONE FAILED FEW MONTHS LATER AND MANUFACTURER REPLACED IT. MILEAGE NOW IS SLIGHTLY BELOW 40,000. VEHICLE HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING TWICE AND NOT TRUSTWORTHY. POLICEMAN HELPED MOVE VEHICLE OFF ROAD ONCE VOLKSWAGEN GARAGE ADVISED KEEP DRIVING TO SEE IF PROBLEM CONTINUES AFTER THEY SWITCHED TWO COIL WIRES. IT HAS NOT STOPPED MISFIRING OF ENGINE.

THE CONTACT VEERED OFF TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES, BUT NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED MINOR BURNS TO THE RIGHT ARM THAT DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. A POLICE AND A FIRE REPORT WERE FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE ENGINE STALLED IN THE SHOP'S PARKING LOT AND THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG FUEL ODOR COMING THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER (LAFONTAINE VOLKSWAGEN LOCATED AT 2200 S TELEGRAPH RD, DEARBORN, MI 48124; (313) 996-6000) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING BELT AND ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE FUEL ODOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-822-8987 AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. CASE NUMBER: 170791374 WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. WHEN PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR, ENGINE WILL SPORADICALLY SHUT OFF AND THE CAR WILL NEED TO BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED. NO ERROR CODES COME FROM THE COMPUTER AND THE PROBLEM IS NOT REPLICABLE AT THE DEALERSHIP OR AT AUTO SHOPS. THE VEHICLE IS EITHER STATIONARY OR IN MOTION, THE DECIDING FACTOR IS THE ACCELERATOR BEING PUSHED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY PROVIDED A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO RECEIVE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WITH THE DEALER AND THE FAILURE PROGRESSED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO PASS AN INSPECTION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CAR BEGAN TO STUTTER AND LOSE POWER WHILE ON I95 DOING HIGHWAY SPEED. PROCEEDED TO DO IT MULTIPLE TIMES. ONCE I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY IT LOST POWER AND SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR AN HOUR AND IT STARTED BACK UP WORKING FINE. HAPPENED AGAIN 3 HOURS LATER. HAPPENED THE ENTIRE WEEK IN FLORIDA ON VACATION. ONCE THE CAR GOT BACK INTO COOLER WEATHER PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL TWO DAYS AGO WHEN IT WAS ABOUT 70 DEGREES OUT. HAPPENED ON I97 DOING 60 MPH. I MANAGED TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY ONCE AGAIN TO HAVE MY CAR DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF ROUTE 2. IT DID NOT DO IT FOR MY MECHANIC WHO HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS. OTHER VW OWNERS SAY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NO KNOWN FIX. THIS MUST BE LOOKED INTO, SOMEONE COULD BE KILLED! *TR
OVER THE PAST 3 WEEKS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS CYCLED ON/OFF. TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND THEY CONCLUDED THAT MY TIMING CHAIN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3700(PARTS&LABOR). I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 9 YEARS AND HAVE APPROX 65000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD OIL CHANGES EVERY 5000 MILES AS WELL AS ALL RECOMMEND FACTORY MAINTENANCE. SINCE MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA STATES THAT THE TIMING CHAIN SHOULD BE REPLACED EVERY 10 YEARS/100,000 MILES THEY REFUSED TO HELP WITH COVERING ANY COST OF THE REPAIRS. UPON SEARCHING THE INTERNET IT HAS BECOME CLEAR THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE 05/06 VOLKSWAGEN ENGINES YET THEY REFUSE TO ADMIT IT. TIMING CHAINS SHOULD NOT BE FAILING AT 65000 MILES AND VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND DO RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK CAR TO HAVE CHECKED AT ADVANCE AUTO. TECHNICIAN FOUND FAULT FAILURE CAM SHAFT POSITIONING SENSOR. CAR TAKEN TO VW DEALERSHIP, TOLD IT WAS THE TIMING BELT, ESTIMATE REPAIR $2700 NOT GUARANTEE THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. TOTAL ENGINE REPLACEMENT $6400. TIMING BELT SHOULD NOT FAIL ON A CAR WITH 109K MILES, CAR HAS BEEN KEEP ON ROUTINE MAINTENANCE SINCE PURCHASED 5 YEARS AGO. *TR

INTERNET SEARCHES CONFIRM THIS MODEL VEHICLE (TDI WITH A BRM ENGINE) HAS A KNOWN HISTORY OF CAMSHAFT FAILURE. ASIDE FROM THE COST OF REPLACEMENT ($2900 AT THE DEALER), THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING CRASH. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER JUST LIKE IGNITION TURNED OFF. ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED DUE TO SUDDEN SLOWING DOWN. HAD TO PULL OVER TO LEFT LANE ON VERY BUSY INTERSTATE BECAUSE I WAS IN CARPOOL LANE. HAD LIMITED SHOULDER AREA TO STOP. NO POWER STEERING OR BRAKES. ONCE STOPPED TRIED TO START ENGINE. TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP THAT EVENING. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED $900 OF REPAIRS ON THE CAR AND THEN DECLARED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD STRETCHED, CAUSING THE MISFIRES). THIS ISSUE OCCURRED SUDDENLY AND WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS HAD IT OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY, INSTEAD OF SURFACE STREETS. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2005/2006 JETTAS (DOCUMENTED AT: HTTP://FORUMS.VWVORTEX.COM/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?5457990-CLASS-ACTION-AGAINST-VW-FOR-TIMING-CHAIN-PROBLEM AS WELL AS MANY OTHER FORUMS). I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED. VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER CARE OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE IS 16,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX UNIT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED A RECALL FOR THE 2009-2010 MODELS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V333000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE 2005 MODEL VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR FAILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS MISFIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN SPROCKETS HAD BEEN SHAVED DOWN, WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE TIMING CHAIN SPROCKETS AS WELL AS OTHER COMPONENTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,005. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
AT ROUGHLY 6500 MILES MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. BROUGHT IT TO DEALERSHIP TO CHECK OUT. FOUND OUT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD JUMPED, OR STRETCHED, RESULTING IN POOR IDLE AND A $2700 ESTIMATE TO REPAIR. LOOKED IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS ISSUE. TIMING CHAIN SHOULD LAST 2-3 TIMES LONGER. SINCE I'M OUT OF WARRANTY PERIOD I AM OUT OF LUCK. VW OFFERED $1500 CREDIT TOWARDS A NEW VW. THIS IS NOT ACPETABLE. MY LAST JETTA LASTED 180000 MILES BEFORE ANY ISSUES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS LIT STEADY, NOT FLASHING. STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND WAS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN SPEED. PULLED OFF ROAD AND IDLE WAS VERY ROUGH. TURNED CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND IDLE WAS WORSE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STILL LIT AND NOT FLASHING. VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE GRINDING NOISE FROM DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE VEHICLE UNDER ITS OWN POWER AND HAD CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. REPAIR SHOP FOUND TROUBLE CODE P1340 AND AFTER MORE DIAGNOSTIC THAT TIMING WAS INCORRECT. CAM TIMING WAS VERY FAR OFF AND STRETCHED TIMING CHAIN SUSPECTED. COMPRESSION TEST REVEALED BENT VALVES AS WELL. LOCAL INDY MECHANIC AND LOCAL VW DEALER HAVE BOTH SEEN THIS ISSUE SEVERAL TIMES WITH 2005.5 AND 2006 MODEL JETTA AND RABBIT VEHICLES WITH THE 2.5L ENGINE, AND SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR FAILURES ARE OUTLINED IN SEVERAL PLACES ONLINE. THE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN WAS VERY SUDDEN AND COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR

ALL MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE WAS DONE AT THE DEALER. FROM INTERNET SEARCHES IT APPEARS THIS IS A GROWING PROBLEM ON EARLY MODEL YEARS. THE DEALER HAS ALSO ADDED TO THEIR OWNERS MANUAL THAT THE TIMING CHAIN IS NOW A SERVICEABLE ITEM. HOWEVER IT WAS NEVER IN MY MANUALS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE VARIOUS COMPONENTS IN THE ENGINE AT AN EXPENSE OF $6500.00. THE VOLKSWAGEN MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT BECAUSE HIS WARRANTY EXPIRED HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000. I OWN A 2005.5 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. JUST PRIOR TO THE 40K SERVICE THE CAR DEVELOPED A DANGEROUS POWER LOSS PROBLEM WHICH RENDERED THE CAR POWERLESS AND THE ONLY WAY TO CLEAR THE PROBLEM WAS TO PULL OVER, SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO THE SHOP FOR OUR 40K SERVICE AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. IN JULY WE TOOK THE CAR ON A ROAD TRIP TO SANTA FE NM AND THE PROBLEM BECAME CHRONIC. WE TOOK THE CAR TO PREMIER MOTORCARS IN SANTA FE 505-428-5521 ON JULY 5TH, AND AS OF TODAY, AUGUST 24TH THE CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. I HAVE ALSO JOINED A FORUM WHERE I HAVE MET OTHERS WITH THE CAME CAR, HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEIR CARS ARE NOT BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE THEIR NAMES, RO NUMBERS AND VW CLAIM NUMBERS UPON REQUEST. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT SO FAR APPEARS TO AFFECT THE 05.5 JETTA TDI MODELS. THE PROBLEM CAUSES THE CAR TO ENTER A "LIMP MODE" WHERE BASICALLY THE HORSEPOWER IS REDUCED DRAMATICALLY AND CAN HAPPEN UNSUSPECTINGLY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO NOT BE AWARE OF AN UNSAFE CONDITION ENTERING TRAFFIC. TO MAKE AN EXAMPLE THE FIRST TIME IT DID THIS TO ME I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AT A BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAD SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE TO CROSS BUT UNKNOWN TO ME MY CAR HAD LOST POWER BUT I DIDN'T REALIZE THIS UNTIL ENTERING THE INTERSECTION CAUSING ME TO BARELY MISS AN ONCOMING CAR. VW HAS BEEN VERY UNCOOPERATIVE WITH ALL OF US AS FAR AS LETTING US SHARE OUR INFORMATION WITH THEM. I HAVE COMPILED THE SERVICE INFO FOR ALL OF THESE PEOPLE AND SHARED IT WITH EACH AND WHEN WE SPEAK TO VW THEY REFUSE THE INFORMATION. MY CAR A 05.5 VW JETTA TDI HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE DEALER SINCE MAY 24,07 WITH THE SAME TROUBLE. LOSS OF POWER. INTERMITTENTLY, MOST OF THE TIME WITH OUT ANY INDICATION OR NOTICE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO CROSS THE STREET. IF CARS ARE COMING AND YOU PULL OUT INTO THE STREET AND YOUR CAR HAS LOST ITS POWER AND YOU DO NOT EXPECT IT. YOU END UP CROSS WAYS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC HAVING TO BRAKE AND WAIT FOR YOU TO GET OUT OF THEIR WAY. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY SO YOU CAN'T PREPARE FOR IT. IT ALSO WILL LOSE POWER WHILE YOU ARE CRUISING DOWN THE ROAD AND NEED TO PUSH YOUR ACCELERATOR DOWN, AND FIND OUT THAT NOTHING IS HAPPENING, AND YOU MAY HAVE TRY SOME OTHER EVADECIVE MOVE. OIL PAN WAS CRACKED DO TO CONTACT WITH SPEED BUMP. ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON UNTIL ENGINE FAILED DUE TO LACK OF LUBRICATION. WHEN OBTAINING A REPLACEMENT OIL PAN FROM MANUFACTURER A REDESIGNED OIL PAN WAS USED AS A REPLACEMENT. INSTEAD OF CAST ALUMINUM IT WAS STEEL. IF THIS PAN WAS USED AS THE ORIGINAL PAN THE INCIDENT WOULD HAVE NEVER OCCURRED. AFTER INVESTIGATING FOUND OUT THAT STEEL PAN IS USED IN GERMAN BUILT JETTA'S BUT US MADE USE CAST PRODUCT. VW REFUSED TO WARRANTY ENGINE WITH ONLY 21,000 MILES. *JB
WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 65 MPH MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ITS POWER AND WAS I COULD NOT GO OVER 25 MPH. WE WERE VERY LUCKY TO NOT GET HIT FROM BEHIND. WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, ENGINE/EXHAUST LIGHT, ESR LIGHT, ESP LIGHT ALL CAME ON. IT ALSO STALLS OUT WHEN SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION. VW UNABLE TO FIX AS OF YET, BEEN IN FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES ALREADY FOR THE SAME THING. VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM, CAR VERY UNRELIABLE!! *JB
I BOUGHT A 2005 JETTA TDI, BRAND NEW. WHEN IT HAD LESS THAN 2000 MILES ON IT, IT DIED WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO COAST OUT OF TRAFFIC, AND AFTER 20 MINUTES IT FINALLY RESTARTED. THEN 6 WEEKS LATER, WITH LESS THAN 4500 MILES ON IT, IT DIED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE I WAS GOING 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE FREEWAY. I HAD MY 3 KIDS IN THE CAR. AGAIN, I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO COAST OUT OF TRAFFIC AND ONTO A NARROW SHOULDER. I CALLED FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, BUT AGAIN, AFTER 20 MINUTES I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO RESTART IT. I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED WITH MY CHILDREN SINCE WE TRAPPED BETWEEN A GUARDRAIL AND THE FIRST LANE. IT WAS TERRIFYING. THE ONLY INDICATION THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WAS THAT AFTER IT DIED QUIETLY, A LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAID "EMISSIONS WORKSHOP." THE DEALER SAYS IT'S RUNNING TO SPECIFICATIONS. THAT DOESN'T EXPLAIN WHY A BRAND NEW CAR HAS QUIT TWICE WITHOUT WARNING AND FAILED TO RESTART FOR 20 MINUTES EACH TIME. *JB

ANY TIME THE VEHICLE IS NOT OPERATED FOR A FEW HOURS OR LONGER, THE ENGINE MAKES A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE UPON STARTING. THE NOISE LASTS LESS THAN 30 SECONDS, THEN A HIGH-PITCHED NOISE FOLLOWS BEFORE BOTH NOISES CEASE. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THESE NOISES SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS DUE TO THIS NOISE, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AND THAT ALL NEW VEHICLES ON THE LOT WERE MAKING THE SAME NOISE. THE SALESMAN SUGGESTED THAT THE GRINDING NOISE WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS STARTING UP AND THE HIGH-PITCHED NOISE THAT FOLLOWED WAS THE FUEL PUMP. STILL, IT DOES NOT SOUND NORMAL, AND THE NOISE DOES NOT OCCUR IF THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY BEEN RESTING FOR A MATTER OF MINUTES. I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT A NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE SUCH A NOISE, AND THEN ONLY MAKE IT ON CERTAIN OCCASIONS. *JB
A FEW DAYS AFTER WE PURCHASED OUR NEW 2005 JETTA WE NOTICED THAT AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 6 HOURS OR MORE WE WERE HEARING A VERY LOUD NOISE AT START UP. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME WE START THE CAR FROM COLD, BECOMING MORE LOUD THE COLDER IT IS - THE NOISE IS VERY LOUD AND MOST CERTAINLY NOT NORMAL FOR A BRAND NEW CAR. WE HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND AFTER LOOKING AT IT, THEY SAID THAT THIS WAS NORMAL AND REALLY DID NOT EXPLAIN AS TO WHAT IS MAKING THE NOISE. CALLED VW AND HAD THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY AGREED THAT THE CAR HAD AN ISSUE AND SENT OUT A VW TECH TO PUT A RESONATOR ON THE CAR -- DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEN AFTER 2 MONTHS OF FIGHTING THE DEALERSHIP AND VW, WE WEE TOLD THAT THE CAR IS PERFORMING TO SPEC AND THAT VW WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *NM

CONSUMER STATED THAT IT WAS SIX TIMES, BUT THE DEALER DID NOT LOG THE FIRST COMPLAINT IN THE COMPUTER. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THE FIRST COMPLAINT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT THE EMISSION PROBLEM BECAUSE THIS WAS A NEW TYPE OF DIESEL ENGINE. THE TYPE OF ENGINE HAD A PUMP MADE TO USE EURO DIESEL WHICH WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN THE UNITED STATES UNTIL 2007. THIS INFORMATION WAS NOT MADE AVAILABLE TO THE CONSUMER BEFORE THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER DIDN'T WISH TO POLLUTE THE ENVIRONMENT. HE ALSO STATED IT WAS NOT SAFE FOR BREATHING. SOOT COULD CAUSE BLACK LUNG DISEASE. MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, AND IT WILL NOT POLLUTE THE ENVIRONMENT UNTIL 2007 WHEN THE DIESEL WAS CONVERTED.
