ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 ID4 vehicles. Incorrect soldering of the flexible printed circuit assembled (FPCA), inside the high voltage (HV) battery, may cause an unreliable connection.
Fix: Dealers will replace the battery cell modules, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 6, 2022. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 9302.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2021 ID.4 vehicles. Software programing may cause the high voltage (HV) battery management control module to restart or the pulse inverter to deactivate.
Fix: Dealers will update the HV battery management control unit and the pulse inverter control unit software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 31, 2023. Owners may contact Volkswagen's customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 97ZZ.

The onboard system for connecting the car to the 4g data has failed. Many many people online are reporting this issue. It is a safety issue because there is a loss of the SOS system that alerts authorities that the car has crashed.

I have brought this to the dealership’s attention on multiple occasions ([insert dates if known]), but they were unable to diagnose or fix the problem. I was driving my 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 Pro S on March 12, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland, when I was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Although I maintained an adequate stopping distance from the truck in front of me, my forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance systems suddenly activated, causing my vehicle to make contact with the truck.

Due to unresolved safety recalls I do not drive the VW ID4. I am afraid that I might get into an accident if the vehicle doors open, visual screen goes blank or all electrical power shuts off. NHTSA should demand VW of America to get rid of all their electric cars that have no remedy in place for safety.

Electronic brake system failure - the vehicle exhibited this issue and so far it appears Volkswagen does not have a resolution. Vehicle has been at the dealership for almost 2 months and they have not been able to fix. Several other reports show that this is a consistent issue with the ID4 (probably the first edition).

The two noted open recalls on my 2021 ID.4 have no fix. There has already been one battery cell replaced and another has gone bad. The vehicles lease ends in two weeks and the dealer, understandably, cannot take it as a trade for another vehicle, sell it to us, or resell it as it will sit on the lot until it is picked up by Volkswagen and totaled out due to it being unsellable.

This problem is very intermittent but also very dangerous. It's happened to me three times in the last month. All three times, while I was making a left hand turn, the accelerator stopped working.

My car's display screen which shows the speed has now malfunctioned twice while driving and today while reversing the car, the center screen displaying the rear camera also reset mid-driving. In both cases, I turned off the car waited a few minutes, restarted the car twice and then the display came back on but who knows when the display will crash again.

The Driver Assistance feature of the car shuts down due to a Software error. It will eventually reset if the car is parked and turned off for a duration of 30 to 60 minutes. Some users have reported that the error does not clear without disconnecting the 12v battery.

Yes the system is available for inspection, I also have pictures that I took while stopped at a traffic light. In October, 11 weeks ago, while parallel parking, which I do everyday for work, I reversed back into an empty spot, toggled into Drive to straighten out my car and my car accelerated and hit the car parked in front of me. While attempting to reverse in vehicle, if you look over your shoulder to reverse, the car will intermittently turn off. These recalls are old: February 7, May 5, and August 25 of last year. My local dealership, Hansel Volkswagen, 2951 Corby Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95407 (1-707-578-1320), is unable to get the parts for these repairs from VW of America, even though WV of America is steadily building new cars. My 2021 ID4 is still not repaired.

Intermittent problem since purchasing the car in September 2021: if child safety lock is engaged when parking the car and the doors are otherwise unlocked, upon exiting the car, the rear doors will not open from the outside. Clicking unlock on the key FOB won't unlock the doors. I need to power the car on again and deactivate the lock from within the car.

UNKNOWN All LCD screens would not display an image including the one that displays the speed at which the vehicle is traveling. The only difference from normal was the car sitting in the sun for a few hours and the back of the LCDs being hot to the touch. Was able to remedy by running the AC on Lo with the car empty for about 20 minutes.
