Your power liftgate has started making groaning and grinding noises when closing, and it's struggling to shut properly. The motor and support struts appear to be wearing out prematurely—the problem began around 38,000 miles and has gotten worse. The dealership says this is no longer covered under warranty since you're over 36,000 miles, and repair costs are around $1,700. You may need replacement of the liftgate motor, struts, and associated hardware to restore normal operation.
