While driving at 35 mph, your engine suddenly revved up and the truck slowed down unexpectedly. When you pressed the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated instead of stopping. The dealer found that the driveshaft assembly had failed and replaced it. The fix involved replacing the driveshaft assembly.

Your truck has been making a dragging noise from the front drivetrain since around 12,000 miles, and the dealer couldn't locate the source during two inspection visits. The noise has gradually worsened over 46,000 miles and now includes vibrations on the highway. This repair will likely require front drivetrain component inspection and possible replacement of worn or damaged parts.

I WAS THE OPERATOR OF THE VEHICLE ON MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE ACCELERATOR WAS WIDE OPEN WHILE I WAS HARD ON THE BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE GEAR SHIFT INTO PARK, AND ONCE I DID THE ENGINE STOPPED ITS ACCELERATION. I WAS ON HARD CONCRETE, THUS THE REAR WHEELS SPUN FREELY WITHOUT CATCHING TRACTION. TRUCK GETS A BUMP AFTER COMING TO A STOP. SOMETIMES IT'S GETS A REALLY HARD BUMP AND SOMETIMES IT'S JUST A LITTLE BUMP. I KEPT THINKING I GOT HIT AS IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHY, BUT I DO KNOW THIS, IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE A/C IS RUNNING. I BELIEVE IT'S A COMPUTER SOFTWARE PROBLEM. IT TOOK A COUPLE OF YEARS BECAUSE I FOUND OUT IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE WEATHER GETS WARM AND I USE THE A/C. SEEMS LIKE QUITE A FEW PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE DEALER IS SAYING "I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING" BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER I SEEM TO BE ABLE TO DUPLICATE IT ALL THE TIME. *JS

I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH THE 5.7L ENGINE AND 6 SPEED AUTO TRANSMISSION. INTERMITTENT SHIFTING OCCURS AS SLOW SPEEDS, WITH THE VEHICLE ACTING LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NEUTRAL. THIS HAS CAUSED SERIOUS CONCERN WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AND COULD LEAD TO A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT. I HAVE ALSO HAD THIS OCCUR ON SLICK SURFACES, WITH THE ENGINE REVVING UP BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES. THIS HAS CAUSED EXTREME TIRE SLIPPAGE AND RISK OF LOSING CONTROL. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES AND HAVE HAD THEIR QUALITY TEAM LOOK AT IT, WITH NO SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION. OTHER OWNERS OF TUNDRAS ARE ALSO REPORTING THIS SAME PHENOMENA, AND CONCERNS, WITH NO RESOLUTION FROM TOYOTA. WE ALL NEED YOUR HELP TO GET CORRECTIVE ACTION PUT IN PLACE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB SR5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY DOWNSHIFT TO 1ST GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER WHERE THEY ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A SECOND DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS TOO MUCH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 31,324 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. UPDATED 8/30/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH. THE ENGINE REVVED UP BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE FOR 6-7 SECONDS AS THE TRANSMISSION SEARCHED FOR THE CORRECT GEAR. UPDATED 10/03/11

LETTER REGARDING PROBLEMS HE HAVING WITH 2009 TOYOTA TUNDRA (SINCE MARCH 2009 TO NOW), HE HAS TAKEN IT TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS 3 TIMES AND IS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS *TGW THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO SEARCH FOR THE PROPER GEAR AND WAS SLIPPING AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WAS NORMAL. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED UP IN 1ST GEAR WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. UPDATED 08/30/11

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN OR DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 25 MPH, THERE WOULD BE A SUDDEN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN THE RPMS. THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO LUNGE FORWARD WHILE SHIFTING GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE TRANSMISSION ON HIS PARTICULAR MODEL WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE, HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 7,816. UPDATED 04/05/10 *BF THE COSUMER STATED THERE WAS A HARSH SHIFT/ HESITATION FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. UPDATED 09/13/10
