REPLACEMENT OF SECONDARY AIR INJECTOR PUMP AND ASSOCIATED VALVES. EXTREMELY HIGH FAILURE RATE WHICH PUTS ENGINE IN LIMP MODE. THIS COULD CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT TIME OF FAILURE.
WHILE TOWING A TRAVEL TRAILER ON A MOUNTAIN PASS FREEWAY IN WA STATE WITH NO SHOULDER. GOING UP THE HILL AND STARTED TO PUT THE FOOT DOWN ON GAS TO GET SPEED UP FOR THE UPCOMING STEEP HILL, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL POWER WAS LOST, ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH NO PLACE TO PULL OVER. I HAD TO TRAVEL AT 8MPH, UP THE HILL UNTIL I FOUND A SUITABLE PULL OUT SPOT FOR THE TRUCK AND 30FT TRAILER. I WAS ALMOST WAS REAR ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES EVEN WITH EMERGENCY FLASHERS GOING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2X, BOTH IN THE EXACT SAME SPOT DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. THE FIRST TIME WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT IN AND THE DEALER WAS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP OUT. BUT THEY WERE MORE THAN HAPPY TO CHARGE $100 TO TELL ME IT WOULD COST $4200 TO REPAIR IT, INCLUDING THE SECONDARY $1800 EGC VACUUM PUMP, WHICH ONLY RUNS, AS THE DEALER TOLD ME, 30-45 SECONDS AT START UP, THEN THE PUMP DOES NOTHING. WHY DOES THIS OCCUR AFTER RUNNING 2+ HOURS?? THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED, I WAS TOWING THE SAME TRAILER AT THE EXACT SAME PLACE ENDING UP GOING ONLY 8 MPH UPHILL AGAIN ON THE HIWAY W/60MPH LIMIT!! THIS TIME AT THE ADVICE OF A FRIEND, ONCE OUT OF TRAFFIC. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR 10 MINUTES, RECONNECTED IT AND THE COMPUTER HAD RESET ITSELF AND THE TRUCK RAN FINE THE LAST 45 MINUTES HOME. I NO LONGER TRAVEL THAT ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER AS I AM AFRAID IT'S GOING TO CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM IN THE 05-06 MODELS. YET ARE FIXING IT UNDER RECALL ON 07+ MODELS BUT WON'T HELP ANYONE ELSE WITH AN '06 OR OLDER. THIS IS MY 3RD TOYOTA AND LAST. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I HAD 60000 MILES, THE 2ND TIME IT WAS AT 68500 MILES. I ONLY HAVE 87500 ON IT NOW, AT 10 1/2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. I AM ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR A TRUCK THAT HAS A COMPANY THAT WILL STAND BEHIND ITS BRAND. I'M DONE WITH TOYOTA. THEY STILL HAVEN'T FIXED MY AIRBAGS EITHER!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE AND PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
I PULLED INTO MY FURNITURE STORE AND HAD THE TRUCK IN DRIVE BUT STATIONARY AND WAS GETTING READY TO PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE TO PARK INTO MY SPOT. ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK ACCELERATED LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL AND I ENDED UP CRASHING INTO THE STORE'S ENTRANCE CAUSING A LOT OF DAMAGE TO BOTH THE VEHICLE AND THE STORE'S BUILDING. IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE BECAUSE I ALMOST RAN OVER MY DAUGHTER. I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. I DID NOT PRESS THE GAS PEDAL BY MISTAKE. THIS IS A TERRIBLE SITUATION. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MERGING INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP SAFE MODE CAUSING IT TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY AND THE AIR SWITCH VALVES ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON RESTARTING, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVEN OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
DEALERSHIP SAYS VEHICLE CAN GO INTO "LIMP HOME MODE" REDUCING POWER AND LIMITING SPEED TO 40MPH. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IN TRAFFIC, OR IN REMOTE PLACES, THIS CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. ISSUE APPEARS TO BE "AIR INJECTION PUMP" AND/OR RELATED VALVES. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA TUNDRA ENCOUNTERED BY OWNERS OF THE 2005 AND 2006 TUNDRA, AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN AN EARLIER EXPANDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. REPAIRS ARE HOWEVER OUT OF WARRANTY, ARE POTENTIALLY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, AND SHOULD BE COVERED IN PREVIOUS TOYOTA PROGRAM. *TR
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP IS MAKING A LOUD HUMMING NOISE AT A COLD START UP. I PULLED THE ERROR CODES. P2441, P1445 AND P1442. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THE COST FOR THE NEW PUMP IS $2300. THAT IS SUCH A BIG EXPENSE FOR A 7 OLD TRUCK AND TO HAVE IT REPAIRED WILL BE MORE THAN $3200. I BELIEVE THAT THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE PART ARE FLAWED AND REPLACEMENT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA. *TR ## VIN FAILED ##
I STARTED MY VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO DRIVE DOWN THE STREET. MY TRUCK LIGHT CAME ON AND I ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I LOST POWER. I TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP AND GOT THE CODE OF 2445. WHEN I TALKED TO TOYOTA I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A FAULTY AIR PUMP AND 3 VALVES FOR THE AIR OPERATED INJECTOR SYSTEM A $3500 DOLLAR REPAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT MOISTURE GETS INTO THE PUMP WHICH CAUSES THE PUMP TO SEND INSULATION INTO THE VALVES. THIS SENDS THE VEHICLE INTO LIMP MODE CAUSING A LOSS OF POWER. I'M LUCKY I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE OR IT MAY HAVE KILLED ME. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS DEFECT AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. THEY CHANGED THE WAY IT IS CONFIGURED IN THE NEWER MODELS AND ISSUED A RECALL FOR THOSE BUT REFUSE TO FIX THE OLDER MODELS. THIS IS A CLEAR LACK OF SAFETY ON THEIR PART. IF THIS WAS TO OCCUR ON THE INTERSTATE THEN PEOPLE WILL GET HURT. I ASK YOU TO SEEK OUT TOYOTA FOR THE SAFETY OF DRIVERS AND MAKE THEM RECALL THESE PARTS. *TR

VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE LOUD NOISE AT STARTUP. SOUNDS LIKE ELECTRIC VACUUM. SECONDARY AIR PUMP AND ASSOCIATED VALVES DEFECTIVE. $2777.00 COST TO REPAIR NOT COVERED BY GOLD EXTENDED WARRANTY. NO HELP FROM DEALERSHIP OR TOYOTA. 2007-2011 TUNDRAS HAVE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 150,00 MILES. WON'T AGREE TO EXTEND TO 2006 OR LATER MODELS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER IN LIMP MODE WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS THE RESULT OF WATER INTRUDING INTO THE ENGINE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WOULD NEED TO BE REMOVED, THE UPPER HALF OF THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE DISMANTLED, AND THE VALVES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I BOUGHT A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 BACK IN 2007. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED EVERY SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT IT. MY TRUCK HAS ALWAYS SMELLED LIKE ROTTEN EGGS AND I HAVE HAD THE INJECTORS CLEANED 4 TIMES SINCE I'VE OWNED IT. THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAY THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL...PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM AND ALSO THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM LIGHT KEEPS MALFUNCTIONING.PEOPLE SPEND TOO MUCH MONEY ON THESE VEHICLES AND LAST THING WE ALL NEED IS TO FORK OUT MORE MONEY ON A VEHICLE THAT IS MORE LESS IN A NUT SHELL A LEMON. 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA, V8 WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED THE IDLE GOES TO A HIGH RATE OF RPM. IF YOU PLACE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE, IT WILL LURCH FORWARD IF THE BRAKES ARE NOT FIRMLY PRESSED. THE RPM IS HIGHER IN THE WINTER. THE DEALER STATES, THAT THIS IS NORMAL AND A PART OF THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM. I CONSIDER THIS A POTENTIAL HAZARD. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN EVIDENT SINCE I PURCHASED THE NEW VEHICLE IN 2006. *TR
2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA 24,00 MILES A MONTH A GO THE TRUCK WOULD NOT COME TO A STOP AT A STOP SING. THE ENGINE REVVED, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE TRUCK STARTED HOPPING I HAD THE BRAKE PUSHED SO HARD. IT WAS VERY BRIEF. 3/18/08 I WAS GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE. WHEN I LET OFF OF THE THROTTLE THE TRUCK KEPT ACCELERATING ROAD THE BRAKE TO SLOW IT DOWN FOR 20 MILES BEFORE IT STOPPED 3/19/08 IT DID THE SAME THING WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR ABOUT 6 MILES. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
