Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain 2011-2016 Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner vehicles equipped with accessory hood scoops installed by SET or SET dealers. The adhesive attaching the hood scoop may weaken, allowing the hood scoop to detach from the vehicle.
Fix: SET will notify owners, and dealers will mechanically fasten the scoop to the hood, free of charge. The recall began on September 1, 2017. Owners may contact SET customer service at 1-954-429-2000. SET's number for this recall is SET17B.

Your Tacoma's clear coat on the hood and roof has started peeling and flaking off, exposing the paint underneath and causing oxidation. This problem started in 2022 and has gotten progressively worse, with large sections now showing bare basecoat. Toyota has confirmed this is a known defect affecting 2015–2017 Tacomas, but your vehicle's VIN isn't covered under their repair program, so they won't authorize a warranty fix. Addressing this will likely require stripping the affected panels and repainting them with a new clear coat.

Your truck has a musty smell inside the cabin, and you've noticed the rear passenger carpeting and floor mats are wet. A dealer diagnosed the problem as cracked rear quarter duct vents that are allowing water to seep into the interior of the vehicle. The repair involves replacing or sealing the damaged duct vents to prevent further water intrusion.

Your truck's paint is peeling and deteriorating even though you've maintained and washed it regularly. You've noticed online that this appears to be a widespread issue affecting white and magnetic grey Toyota vehicles, though there's no official recall for the magnetic grey paint problem. The issue will likely continue to worsen without professional repainting or a factory paint replacement.

At approx 75K miles hood latch popped open. Noticed hood was open while driving on highway. Only the 2nd safety latch was holding it closed. Pulled over to close it but it would not fully latch. Noticed latch had a lot of rust. Did not bother taking it to a dealer or repair shop. Bought an aftermarket latch and easily installed myself which solved the issue. Very glad hood did not fully fly open which could have been catastrophic.
Recent in December wife said there’s a musty odor in truck. While vacuuming carpet on Friday 1/6/23 water came to surface. Searched everywhere for leak and found the 2 vents behind back seats had bad gaskets and leaking bad. After getting access under carpet, passenger side was dry but growing mold and drivers side is holding slimy water. The back seats are a little higher and we’re dry but signs of mold as well. These vents pop out through the cab outward but the bed has to be removed to replace them. I used silicone to seal from inside to stop water intrusion. Dealership no help, report and claim filed with Toyota corporate, insurance company and waiting for response. During the holidays, wife road in my truck several times and ended up spending a week in the hospital due to a fungal infection in her lungs and may be linked to the mold. While on a chat group, Tacoma Owners Group and Tacoma World, there are numerous other owners with the same issue and no help from Toyota.
Hood latch, the hood would not fully close and lock! The dashboard warning light would come on indicating the latch was not working. The hood would be open approx 1/2 inch. Tried opening and closing numerous times. Finally, tied the hood closed with a bungee. Went to the local Toyota dealership. They (Service Technician) said he sees often! Sprayed with a solvent. Indicated corrosion around the small spring. A few weeks later, driving and the hood popped, secondary latch kept the hood from fully opening! Dashboard warning light illuminated. I pulled over and tied hood to secure until I could get to the Garage again! Indicated the spring was weak......no repair! Waiting for a disaster to happen at highway speed! Checked Google, and numerous reports by other 2016 owners for same problem!
2016 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO PAINT ON THE ROOF OF VEHICLE BEING DISENTEGRATED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DECLINED ANY ASSISTANCE.
I own a second hand Toyota Tacoma TRD 4x4 v6 2016. Is leaking water by the plastic welding on each side of the roof. The water runs along both sides of the inner roof and then drops by the front lateral bars, between metal and the plastic cover, until reach the carpet.

THE REAR CARGO/3RD BRAKE LIGHT ON THE TOP OF THE CAB SEAL IS BROKEN AND WATER LEAKS IN TO THE REAR CAB AND SATIN IN THE HEADLINER. I HAVE LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM AND THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY COMPLAINTS. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AFTER GETTING MY TRUCK SERVICED FOR A RECALL ITEM AND THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP EVEN KNOWING THAT THERE IS A TSB 0055-18. *TR
TRAVELING ON I95 IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH WHEN MY SUNROOF SUDDENLY EXPLODED WITH A LOUD BANG. BROKEN PIECES OF GLASS RAINED DOWN IN THE CAB OF MY TRUCK AND ON ME. NO OBJECTS STRUCK MY VEHICLE NOR WAS I TRAVELING UNDER AN OVERPASS AT THE TIME. I HAD OPENED THE SUNSHADE SEVERAL MINUTES PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT BUT THE GLASS ITSELF WAS FULLY CLOSED. THERE WERE NOT ANY CRACKS, CHIPS OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND TO THE GLASS BEFORE THE SUNROOF FAILURE OCCURRED. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY I INSPECTED THE GLASS AND FOUND THAT THE EDGES AROUND THE JAGGED HOLE PROTRUDED OUTWARDLY. I AGAIN FOUND NO EVIDENCE OF THE VEHICLE BEING STRUCK BY ANY FOREIGN OBJECTS.THIS EVENT OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 6TH, 2019 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:00 PM. WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND TEMPERATURES WERE AROUND 60 DEGREES.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 TOYOTA TACOMA THROUGH A DRIVE-THRU CAR WASH AND WATER STARTED TO DRIP THOUGH THE CEILING. MY TOYOTA TACOMA WAS IN MOTION AS IT WAS ROLLING THROUGH THE CAR WASH CYCLE. AFTER READING MULTIPLE FORUM POSTS, OTHER TOYOTA TACOMA OWNERS DESCRIBED THAT THEIR VEHICLES LEAKED WATER FROM THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ON TOP OF THE CAB BECAUSE OF A A DAMAGED SEAL OR BEING IMPROPERLY SEALED.
WAS HIT BY A DIFFERENT DRIVER IN A PARKING LOT.
THE ADHESIVE USED TO BOND THE SHEET METAL TO THE FRAME OF THE HOOD IS FAULTY. THIS CAUSES THE HOOD TO FLEX AND SHAKE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.
DRIVER AND PASSENGER WINDOWS RATTLE WHEN ROLLED DOWN .5" TO 3". IT'S VERY LOUD AND ANNOYING.
PASSENGER SIDE DOOR COMES UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING. COLD WEATHER FREEZES INSIDE THE LATCH-HANDLE AND DOES NOT COMPLETE LATCH. WHEN PASSENGER PUT WEIGHT ON DOOR THEY NEARLY FELL OUT OF THE MOVING VEHICLE. A SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS OBSERVED WHEN GOING THROUGH A CORNER; NO PASSENGER.
Your truck's clear coat and paint are fading significantly on the hood, roof, and side panels. This appears to be a protective coating and paint quality issue rather than a mechanical problem. A repair would likely involve sanding, repainting, and reapplying clear coat to the affected areas.

Your car's paint on the hood and roof is fading noticeably over time. This is a cosmetic issue that doesn't affect how your vehicle runs, but it may impact the appearance and resale value. Fixing this typically involves repainting or applying a protective clear coat to the affected areas.
