TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. AFTER REACHING THE DESTINATION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR FUEL TANK STRAP FRACTURED DUE TO RUST CORROSSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 230,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

ON OCTOBER 2013 I APPROACHED A RED LIGHT (NO CAR IN FRONT OF ME) THE ROAD SURFACE WAS WET AND THE ABS KICKED IN. WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE HARD, THE ENGINE STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND I COULDN'T HOLD THE TRUCK BACK. I WENT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT I PROBABLY DID NOT PRESS DOWN ON THE BRAKE HARD ENOUGH. ON JANUARY 2014 THE SAME THING OCCURRED. HERE AGAIN I WAS FORTUNATE THAT ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS NOT IN FRONT OF ME AND THIS TIME I WENT THROUGH A STOP SIGN. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. MARCH 15TH IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN I WAS LUCKY THAT NO VEHICLE WAS IN FRONT OF ME, BUT I NOW BRAKE WAY IN ADVANCE OF A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN BECAUSE OF FEAR. THIS TIME WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO ACCELERATE I GOT OFF THE BRAKE AND WENT RIGHT BACK ON AND THE ENGINE STOPPED ACCELERATING. I ONCE AGAIN PUT IT IN THE GARAGE AND THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I THINK THAT THE UNINTENTIONAL ACCELERATION IS TRIGGERED WHEN HARD PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKES WHEN THE ABS KICKS IN. I'M NOT A ROOKIE DRIVER. I'VE BEEN DRIVING TACOMAS FOR OVER 30 YEARS. THIS IS MY 4TH ONE. AFTER HAPPENING THREE TIMES, IT IS DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE TRUCK. THIS IS A POSSIBLE SERIOUS ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET TOYOTA TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED HE SMELLED FUEL INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AFTER STARTING IT. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT COMPONENT WAS REPAIRED. HE ALSO STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT SENSOR FAILED AND THE SEAT BELT OFF WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE WARNING PANEL. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE SENSOR HAD FAILED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE SEAT BELT. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 65,000.

THE TRUCK ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT STOP I HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES THEY WAS AS HARD AS A ROCK AND THE TRUCK KEPT ACCELERATING ,I WAS ON A TWO LANE ROAD. I WAS COMING QUICKLY UPON CARS IN FRONT OF ME AND I PUT THE GEAR SHIFT IN 3RD OUT OF DRIVE AND BACK IN ,AND TRUCK ENGINE CAME BACK UNDER MY CONTROL . ENGINE CAME DOWN BUT ,A LITTLE LATER THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. I MANAGED TO GET IT HOME AND I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID I HAD TO DRIVE IT TO ONE OF THEIR DEALERS OR THEY CAN NOT HELP ME.I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT WHAT SHOULD I DO I DO NOT WANT TO HURT MYSELF OR SOME ONE ELSE IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FLOOR MAT. I ASK THE LADY IF SHE WOULD PROMISE ME IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN ON THE WAY TO THE DEALERS SHE WOULD NOT I ASK HER IF THEY WOULD TOW IT SHE SAID AT MY EXPENSE. I REFUSED AND SHE HUNG UP THE PHONE. PROBLEM: THROTTLE HUNG IN A WIDE-OPEN POSITION WHILE DRIVING. NO CARPET PROBLEM WAS INVOLVED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO ME IN A TWO WEEK SPAN!!! I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY 2006 TACOMA. ON 10/29/09 WHILE TOWING A TRAILER I EXPERIENCED THE FIRST OCCURRENCE. I HAD TWO PASSENGERS WITH ME THAT CAN ATTEST TO THE TRUTH OF MY SITUATION. I DEPRESSED THE THROTTLE AND THE MOTOR SUDDENLY WENT TO A WIDE-OPEN POSITION. FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE TRUCK WITH BRAKES ALONE BUT THEY COULD NOT STOP THE ACCELERATION OF THE TRUCK. MY ONLY THOUGHT WAS TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION. I DID SO AND BROUGHT THE TRUCK AND TRAILER TO A SAFE STOP ALTHOUGH IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT WITHOUT THE POWER BRAKES BEING ACTIVE ALONG WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS ALSO TOWING A TRAILER. I CHECKED THE THROTTLE AND GAS PEDAL CONNECTIONS AND FOUND NO OBVIOUS PROBLEMS. I THEN ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE TRUCK TO SEE IF POSSIBLY THE COMPUTER CLEARED ITSELF. WHEN I TURNED ON THE IGNITION, THE MOTOR STARTED AND INSTANTLY WENT INTO A FULL-OPEN THROTTLE MODE. I SHUT IT OFF BEFORE IT REACHED A VERY HIGH LEVEL. WE THEN CHECKED ALL THE SAME THINGS WE ALREADY CHECKED AND I DECIDED TO TRY STARTING THE TRUCK AGAIN. THIS TIME, IT STARTED AND RAN LIKE NOTHING EVER WAS WRONG. WE DROVE THE TRUCK HOME WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT. THEY INSPECTED BOTH THE THROTTLE BODY, ENGINE CODES, AND TEST DROVE IT AND TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I WAS SENT ON MY WAY WITH NO CHARGE TO ME. THEY GAVE ME NO PAPERWORK AS I NORMALLY GET BUT I DID CONFIRM THAT THIS COMPLAINT WAS PUT INTO THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEM. THIS SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ME ONCE MORE ON 11/02/09 WHICH ALSO HAPPENED TO BE MY BIRTHDAY. I FEEL EXTREMELY FORTUNATE TO NOT HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT TO DATE BUT I MUST TELL YOU THAT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AT THE PRESENT TIME. REF.
