THESE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS FAIL TO HOLD THE SPEED SET BY THE DRIVER AND CAN ACCELERATE ABOVE THE INTENDED SET SPEED.
Fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THESE CRUISE CONTROL ASSEMBLIES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1996 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. HE THEN CRASHED INTO A TREE AND THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT WAS UNINJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR WAS IT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 245,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
VEHICLE HAS TWO SAFETY CONCERNS OF A STICKY ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND ENGINE RPMS JUMPING FROM 600 TO NEARLY 1100 WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM IS RUNNING, CAUSING VEHICLE TO JERK WHILE AT A STOP. *MJS
THROTTLE VALVE STICKS SHUT WHILE DECELERATING. I ADJUSTED THE SETSCREW ABOUT A YEAR AGO(ANOTHER 35,000 MILES LATER) THE PROBLEM HAS RETURED. SINCE I DON'T HAVE ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS I'LL CONTINUE TO ADJUST IT MYSELF. TAKING MY TRUCK TO THE DEALER ONLY EVER CAUSES MORE PROBLEMS! *AK

WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK, THE TRUCK ACCELERATED TO A HIGH SPEED, CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL AND CRASH INTO 3 OTHER VEHICLES. EVEN THOUGH DRIVER'S FOOT WAS HEAVY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAS ALWAYS BEEN HARD. THE BODY WORK IN BEING TAKEN CARE. OWNER IS WAITING FOR A INSPECTOR FROM TOYOTA TO CHECK THE ACCELERATOR. *AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 52 MPH ON A WET/TWO-LANE ROAD, WITH CRUISE CONTROL ON, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, ALMOST REACHING 70 MPH. CONSUMER CLAIMS THERE WAS A SERVICE RECALL ON DEFECTIVE CRUISE CONTROL MODULE, BUT HE DID NOT RECEIVE NOTIFICATION. *AK

ENGINE NORMALLY IDLES AT 550 RPMS AND SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASED TO 1050 RPMS. WHEN PULLING INTO A GARAGE OR SERVICE STATION THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITH NO WARNING. DEALER SAIS ALL TACOMAS DO THIS. *AK
