Your rear hatch has developed rust that has eaten through the metal near the latch, causing chunks of metal to break away. This rust damage may eventually cause the latch mechanism to separate from the tailgate, which could result in the hatch opening unexpectedly while driving on the highway and spilling your cargo. The rust appears to have started from water getting inside the tailgate frame, possibly due to improper welds.
