IN MARCH 2016, I HAD - FOR THE FIRST TIME - THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, BRAKE, AND ABS LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL COME ON... ALL 4 ON AT ONCE. THEN AGAIN, TODAY, I HAD THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON. A KNOWN ISSUE FOR BOTH SEQUOIA AND TUNDRA MODELS, OWNERS HAVE TRIED TO GET A RECALL. MANY THOUGHTS ONLINE ABOUT WHAT CAUSES THIS; IT APPEARS IT'S A FAULTY SKID CONTROL UNIT (ECU UNIT). SAYS THE ECU WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE INTO A "SAFE" MODE AND LIMIT OUTPUT POWER AND ACCELERATION, UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED. I EXPERIENCED THIS TODAY AFTER THE LIGHTS CAME ON. OTHERS ONLINE SAY MIGHT BE A BAD BRAKE FLUID SENSOR, BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH OR OXYGEN SENSOR. HOWEVER, OVERWHELMINGLY IT SEEMS TO BE A FAULTY ECU' AND THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE ELECTRONIC PART ($2,300)!

RECEIVED NOTICE OF RECALL FOR FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG IN MAY 2015; TOYOTA HAS STILL NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED NO USE OF FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BECAUSE OF SAFETY. IT IS NOW ~8 MONTHS LATER AND NO RESOLVE. ALSO, TAILGATE WIPERS, WINDOW AND WIPER FLUID SYSTEM NOT OPERATIONAL (SINCE 2008) DESPITE ALL GOOD FUSES IN 4 COMPARTMENTS.

JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER 2006 SEQUOIA AT 80K MILES THE YELLOW ABS, YELLOW VSC OFF, YELLOW VSC TRAC , AND RED BRAKE DASHBOARD LIGHTS CAME ON CAUSING IT TO FAIL THE MA STATE INSPECTION. DISASSEMBLED P/N 44050-0C100 AND THE BRUSHES IN THE ABS PUMP MOTOR (ATE 25.0206-0206.3) ARE COMPLETELY GONE.

VEHICLE ACCELERATION STALLS FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN TURNING RIGHT INTO TRAFFIC. THIS ISSUE IS THE SAME AS NHTSA 10V176000, BUT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS SAFETY RECALL. THIS ISSUE IS VERY HAZARDOUS TO DRIVERS.

AIR PUMP THAT CUTS ON FOR ONE MINUTE WHEN CAR IS FIRST STARTED, PUSHES AIR INTO STARTING SYSTEM TO INSURE ALL GAS IS BURNED COMPLETELY. TOOK IN FOR SERVICE AND TOLD BY DEALER A LITTLE PLASTIC FAN BLADE BREAKS INTO PCS. AND WERE STUCK IN VALVES MAKING CAR GO INTO "LIMP MODE". WHEN THIS HAPPENED CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE UP A HILL OR GO OVER 45 MPH. DEALER QUOTED $3500.00 AND SAID IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME TO THESE LITTLE PLASTIC FAN BLADES. I HAVE READ THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD SAME PROBLEMS ESPECIALLY IN THE TACOMA TRUCK LINE. I THINK DEALER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX THESE NO MATTER HOW MANY MILES ON CAR OR UP TO 10 YEARS. THEY SHOULD NOT BE MADE OF PLASTIC BEING SO CLOSE TO ALL THE HEAT IN AREA OF AIR PUMP. ME AND MY FAMILY COULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BEING ON INTERSTATE WHERE THE NEED TO GO OVER 45 MPH IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY OR GET REAR ENDED. THIS PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY LOOKING AT THE TACOMA WEB SITE, TOYOTA IS DRAGGING THEIR FEET, COVERING SOME PEOPLE AND I READ COVERING CARS IN CANADA BUT NOT IN USA. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO COVER COST. MOST OF THE COST IS LABOR FOR THIS 5 BUCK PLASTIC FAN BLADE.HIS IS UNACCEPTABLE TO HAVE TO PAY 3500.00 BUCKS FOR A BAD DESIGN. *TR

I BOUGHT MY 2006 SEQUOIA USED FROM A DEALER. SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERS ATTENTION & THEY SAY THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE IT & EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE FINE WITH THE BRAKES. IT IS STILL HAPPENING. MY REAR WIPER, WINDOW & DEFROST SYSTEM HAVE FAILED SEVERAL TIMES. AT FIRST I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THE WINDOW MUST NOT HAVE BEEN UP THE WHOLE WAY & IT WAS NOW WORKING. IT CONTINUED TO GO IN AND OUT, BUT NOW THEY HAVE FAILED COMPLETELY. . I HAVE CHECKED THE FUSES & THEY ARE FINE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THEY DO NOT SEE ANYTHING IMMEDIATELY WRONG WITH IT AND WILL NEED TO INVESTIGATE IT FURTHER, BUT THAT WILL COST A LOT MORE. I SAW SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS SO I THOUGHT I SHOULD ADD MY EXPERIENCE TO THE LIST. *TR

PUSHED SWITCH FOR POWER REAR TAILGATE WINDOW, WINDOW ASSEMBLY BROKE AND WINDOW FELL DOWN INTO DOOR. UPON EXAMINATION, ALL COMPONENTS - REGULATOR ASSEMBLY AND ALL CONNECTING PARTS WERE SEVERELY CORRODED WHICH LED TO FAILURE. LESS THAN 12 MONTHS LATER, REAR TAILGATE OUTSIDE HANDLE BROKE; AGAIN UNDER EXAMINATION THE ENTIRE INTERIOR LATCH ASSEMBLY WAS SEVERELY CORRODED WHICH CAUSED FAILURE. THIS IN MY OPINION IS A DESIGN OR ASSEMBLY DEFECT. WATER IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LEAKING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE TAILGATE. FROM THE EXTENT OF CORROSION, THIS CONDITION HAD BEEN OCCURRING FOR MANY YEARS - MOST LIKELY IN MY OPINION IMMEDIATELY FROM THE TIME THAT WE ACQUIRED THE VEHICLE NEW. THE FAILURE, WHILE CAUSED FROM A DEFECT FROM THE BEGINNING OF VEHICLE LIFE, MANIFESTED ITSELF AFTER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY PERIOD AND TOYOTA IS REFUSING TO ADDRESS. FROM SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. *TR

HAVE A 2006 TOYOTA SEQUIOA AND EVERYONCE AND AWHILE THE LIGHTS WILL COME ON THE DASH BOARD AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM WILL BE VERY HARD TO PRESS, ALMOST NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF FOR LITTLE BIT AND IT RETURNS TO NORMAL (SOMETIMES). I SEE THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS TO THIS MATTER BUT STILL NO RECALL??? IT IS A REALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN DRIVING AND THE LIGHTS COME ON AND THERE ARE VIRTUALLY NO BRAKES TO SPEAK OF. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS. VEHICLE BATTERY DIES IF THE IGNITION IS IN THE ACCESORY POSITION FOR 20 TO 30 MINUTES, WITH JUST THE RADIO ON. I HAVE BROUGHT TO TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES SINCE OCTOBER 2009. BATTERY WAS REPLACED ONE TIME. I HAVE SINCE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM. I WAS EVEN TOLD ONE TIME THAT I WOULD NEED A SEPERATE MARINE BATTERY HOOKED UP IN ORDER TO LISTEN TO THE VEHICLE RADIO. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT YOU COULD NOT LISTEN TO THE RADIO WITH THE IGNITION IN THE ACCESSORY POSITION FOR ATLEAST 3 PLUS HOURS. SOMETHING IS DRAWING ON THIS BATTERY. IT MAKES NO SENSE. *TR

2006 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAS EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS SINCE PURCHASE. ON 30 JULY 09 VEHICLE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE COMPUTER FAILURE OF ECU, VSC, AND OTHER COMPUTERS. TOYOTA TECH REPS SAY VEHICLE COULD NOT HAVE CAUSED PROBLEM, THEREFORE IT MUST BE AN "EXTERNAL' FAULT. HOWEVER, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE OF ANY EXTERNAL ARCING OR OTHER POWER SURGE INDICATIVE OF AN "EXTERNAL" EVENT. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADMIT POTENTIAL OF A LATENT DEFECT AND SAYS INCIDENT MUST BE REFERRED FOR INSURANCE. TOYOTA WILL NOT ADDRESS LOGICAL QUESTIONS AS TO WHY OTHER (NON-PROTECTED SYSTEMS SUCH AS THE RADIO) IN THE VEHICLE STILL FUNCTION IN LIGHT OF THE ALLEGED "EXTERNAL EVENT." ADDITIONALLY, THERE WERE NO CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSES BLOWN, SO AGAIN HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THE "EXTERNAL EVENT" THEORY TO BE VALID? GIVEN THE ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE ON THE WEB CONCERNING SEQUOIA ECUS AND VSC COMPUTERS, WHAT ACTION CAN NHTSA TAKE TO HAVE THE MANUFACTURER ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS? *TR
